I bought this product because my new Macbook no longer has an internal disc drive. So the purpose was to be able to play/download CDs, play DVDs, and the added bonus of playing Blu-rays on my computer, which I was never able to do before. On the front of the box, there is this ambiguous message that reads: "Blu-ray title plays on Mac OS; Software not included." So I asked one of the sales associates in the Best Buy store, who seemed to know a thing or two about this product, if that meant I needed to buy extra software, and he assured me that it was highly unlikely. But sure enough, this device will only play CDs and DVDs. Extra software is needed to play Blu-rays. When I read reviews on the available Blu-ray software programs, none of them sound reliable: Macgo, Aiseesoft, etc. Lots of bad reviews with very few good ones. Strange that Apple would not offer a decent Blu-ray software program with all of their many perks. And this is the only Blu-ray writer offered in my local store.

This DVD burner is fast, burns all types of DVDs, also plays BluRays and integrated beautifully with my computer. I highly recommend it. Also, it is powered by a dual USB cable, so no need to plug in to an outlet separately.

This external DVD writer is compact and easy to take with you when you need it, works well with plug 'n play efficiency, and reads and writes at admirable speeds. I'm glad to have it as a tool in my toolbox.

It worked pretty much out of the box. This is the second Blu-Ray burner I bought, the first one I could not get to work at all. This one did so an excellent review.

The LG 8x External Blu-ray disc rewriter has been a nice addition to my tower after the built-in DVD writer failed. It's a little louder but does a great job.

Very slim device which is nice. Connects with one cable that needs 2 usb but no external power needed. I have watched a Blueray movie and it was flawless. Ripped multiple CD's and it seems quick enough. No complaints here.

Slim compact easy to use and store. Great for laptop with no drive.

I need this DVD player because my older one didn't play Blu-ray disks. This item is great except for the price tag and the trial software. I will give the player a 5 star rating but 1 for price and software.

I reviewed several USB Blu-ray readers before settling on this one. I do not really use it much for burning, but, its been rock solid on reading discs. It's fast, super quiet, well designed and super slim. Anyone looking for a fast dependable reader/writer, this one is for you. I would highly recommend to friends and family.

I've burned many DVDs and Blurays with this thing, and it works perfectly, MAC or Windows. Really compact, and easy to use! pretty much plug and play!

A solid external device with good read and write performance that handles BluRay and DVDs without any major issues and comes with decent software to support video playback. I purchased it to allow me to play BluRay discs through a laptop vs. use it as a disc burner. This device requires two USB ports to run (one for power, one for data) and luckily my laptop has two available ports side-by-side to support it, something that wasn't immediately clear from the external packaging description. It was the only available external drive at the physical store nearby, making it a bit of an 'all or nothing' type choice that worked out fortunately in the end.

Simple plug and play. Works without issue. Does exactly what I need.

I have really no problem with this external drive except for it feels a little on the light side. Like I could easily break it just by putting a disc in it. But is was super easy to set up. Warning, it does take two USB 2.0 spots if you want to use Blu-Ray. I have them to spare so it was no big deal to me but your set up might be different and it might be a problem for you. It sits on top of my computer and can be hooked up and unhooked when not needed. I do think it is a great bargain since we don't use DVD/Blu-ray disc much anymore.

The external blu ray player and write works extremely well with my surfact pro 3. Other than updating the antediluvian software bundle, I can find nothing about which to complain. And I looked!

This is the perfect all around disc player and burner. Small size and USB power makes it portable to use with laptop or plug it into your desktop, which is how I use it. Plugged it in and it just works.

I was looking for a blu-ray drive to use with my new computer, and this one was the easiest to get and cheap as well. The only concerns I have are the quality of the construction and the fact that it needs to use two USB ports on the computer. It seems to be made mostly of plastic, so it's cheaper and lighter, but that also means it feels pretty flimsy when inserting or removing a disc. The fact that it needs to use two USB ports on a computer means that I'm pretty limited on where I can have it plugged in. If I didn't have my PC sitting on my desk, I would have had to plug it into the USB port on the top of my PC and have the drive itself sitting partially on the top vent. I've also noticed that if you leave a video or movie paused long enough, the drive will stop reading data from the disc. This can cause playback issues until the drive starts back up again.

I have not had a chance to try this with a Blu-Ray disc, but worked very well with music CD and regular movie DVD. I installed a free Leawo Blu-ray player app (from the App store) with my Mojave 10.14.2 Apple laptop. My only complaint is the bottom tray where the disc goes is so thin and flimsy I worry about breaking it. So I am extremely careful. Please make this more sturdy!!!! I only needed one of the connections to my computer- not both of them. Overall very nice!!

This is my first disc drive and it was very easy to hook up and use. I am glad I got one that I can play blu ray disc on to watch movies (most of my moves are blu ray).

I looked at the ratings for a good external Blue Ray/DVD drive as my computer did not have an internal drive. This one was very highly rated. It is easy to install and use. It comes with many features as well.
