Customers are saying

Customers value the ease of use, Blu-ray functionality, compact size, and compatibility of the 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter. Many appreciate its performance and the affordable price point. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the included software and the noise level during operation. The positive feedback on ease of use and Blu-ray playback outweighs the negative comments on software and noise.

I have had some problems with this product reading some of my DVDs. It's okay if they are store bought. Gives problems with ones I made such as picture DVDs.

I went through all the set-up steps (which took a very long time and required all sorts of legal agreements and nonsense), then tried two DVDS and one Blu-ray disc and it seized up each time, made horrible whining noises, and refused to play anything. I have a pretty new, beefed-up gaming laptop; this is not for want of guts. Junk machine. Returned it the next day.

This was more of a hassle than anything. The salesman did not know what he was doing or talking about. He told me I could use the USB to connect my Droid phone to the device. This is false. I even had my phone and connection wire with me and he still sold me the wrong product. I am saying this is only an "okay" product because the videos and literature I read about it was incorrect.

It's a quiet, slim device. I don't know why it is so difficult to find a USB 3.0 model, though. It does the job.

What I wanted was an external Blue Ray DVD player that I could plug into my computer to watch Blue Ray videos. But on one Blue Ray video it said "not a supported type". On the other, it accepted it initially, but then said that it requires a digital audio card in the computer, not a analog one. It will also only work on a Windows computer & not a Mac Book Pro. So it is useless for me, but probably great for the right person.

Just bought this thing today, installed all the software and inserted a BluRay disc. Started playing fine...the FIRST time. an hour later i inserted another BR into the drive, and it started chocking on itself...took forever to load the BR files, then stopped and lost the drive entirely. opened the drive and removed the disc...restarted the computer and it did the same thing over and over again, always recognizing the drive at first, then NOT recognizing it. Plays regular DVD'S just fine, but BL....NO. I wouldn't waste my money on this piece of JUNK, i will take it back tomorrow and complain.

Tried to install twice but both times it caused problems with my computer. Just returned it to the store. It may have had something to do with the 2.0 and 3.0 usb ports?

I returned this after a very frustrating session with Geek Squad. I took the salesman's word that it would play BluRay movies, but it only plays some of them. For $88 I don't want to have to buy and download 2 different programs to watch a movie.

I can use it to copy files to my hard drive, but that is about it. Its been about 6 weeks and I still cant get the software to work that allows me to play the blueray dvds from this player. I am really turned off since I payed extra for a blueray dvd player and it doesn't play blurray dvds. really %$#& software. Stay away from this product.

I normally do a pros and cons section for my reviews, but I have nothing positive to say about this product as I was unable to even use it. So this review will mostly be a warning to research before you buy. The box for this product did not have any graphic card requirement listed on it, so it is just a guessing game of weather or not you have a card powerful enough to utilize this player. There was another player beside this one made by the same company, but different model and more expensive, that did have the graphic card requirements printed on it. I'm sure you can see where I am going with this, I got home with the player without the requirements printed on it, loaded up the software, which oddly enough detects weather or not your computer can run it (why was the information not on the box....) and I am greeted with a pass on every single thing except the graphic card. At the time I bought my laptop (want to say about 5 years ago) I had a top of the line graphic card (670mx) and the laptop cost me close to $2k. So I guess this is kind of a double warning to not put too much money into a laptop (buy a desktop for future expansion) and don't buy a blu-ray player unless it has a graphic card requirement printed on it.

I spent an hour setting up, it worked, then I disconnected it due to limited desk space. When I reconnected it, I had to download and reinstall everything, a pain-in-the-posterior. What a waste of time and money. As that guy on TV says, "Don't Buy!"
