Customers are saying
Customers value the ease of use, Blu-ray functionality, compact size, and compatibility of the 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter. Many appreciate its performance and the affordable price point. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the included software and the noise level during operation. The positive feedback on ease of use and Blu-ray playback outweighs the negative comments on software and noise.

Don't buy!!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third try at purchasing this product. All have broken down and the most recent one was within a couple of months. Don't be fooled by the year warranty. LG will just give you the run around and tell you to return to Best Buy. And Best Buy will not honor the warranty as well.

Avoid!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst electronic product I’ve ever bought. DVD/BluRay will sometimes play and other times will freeze the unit. Settings for streaming services frequently are erased inexplicably. When streaming services are added the unit’s low processing power causes unacceptable delay/freeze. After two months of frustration (during COVID-19) I finally had a little fun with it and said goodbye “Office Space” style. Yeah, it’s that bad.

Posted .Hi, John. Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We understand your concern about your LG Player (BP50NB40) model not performing as expected, especially after repeated use. We strive to provide high-quality products and ensure a smooth experience. It sounds like there may be an issue with the loading mechanism or the laser lens, which could be causing it to stop loading Blu-rays.
We recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps: Clean the lens using a soft cloth or a lens cleaning disc.
Ensure the firmware is up to date, as sometimes software updates can resolve loading issues. For guidance, visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/updating-firmware-bluray--1428606495664.
Test the player with different discs to ensure the problem is consistent across all media. If these steps don't resolve the issue, please reach out to us via private message on social media @LGUSSupport, and we’d be happy to assist you further. ^Juvy

Posted .Hi, Joe. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern, especially after only two months of use. The LG Blu-ray (BP50NB40) model typically supports Blu-ray and non-Blu-ray discs out of the box, so it’s unexpected that you’re being prompted for an upgrade. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. We recommend checking the firmware version of your unit and ensuring it is up to date, as an outdated firmware could sometimes cause issues with playback. Wont let you create a disc system image of your pc
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The whole reason I purchased this item and blue rays was to create a system image backup for emergencies of my newly purchased pc, problem is the bluray keeps displaying error messages. After intense research and time I discovered apparently the manufacturer patched it so it wont perform pc backups but failed to give full diclosure on the box which is against the law. Back to the store I go, doubtfull I will by LG or Hitachi products in the future. :(

expensive considering it only plays cds/dvds
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.plays cds/dvds but hasn't been able to play any blu-ray bc of DCHP nonsense which defeats the whole point of it being sold as a blu-ray player (all attempted blu-rays were legally purchased within the us, are us-region, and otherwise play fine and without issue on a regular blu-ray player hooked up to a tv). genuine waste of time/money, all you'll do is troubleshoot with no result

Works, but not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fine reading CDs. Unable to play BluRays--doesn't come with right software and "free" software on web isn't free. disappointed that paid extra for BluRay part. Will likely return and get a normal cd drive for half the price.

Ok
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is expensive and it did work but you have to understand that to get it to burn CDs you have to spend an extra like 30 or $40 for the software and they want you to order that
