Reading and writing speeds are not the best, but works great for downloading pc games. When it comes to watching movies, you will need the software included in the box to give your computer the ability to play both DVD and Blu Rays. You would think your computer should just play a regular DVD in windows media player, but apparently you need the software disc that's bundled in to allow that capability. Don't know if other plain dvd drives will have similar situations. Blu Rays need special software installed no matter what computer you have. Overall works really good, just has a lot of unanswered questions regarding its functionality with Windows.

Great Slim Light Portable PC Blu-ray Player/Writer

This LG Blu-ray Player/Writer for PC is Slimline, Light, Portable, sturdy. Take good care of it, handle it with care, buy a Geek Squad Protection, and you'll enjoy watching Blu-ray movies, DVD's, listen to CD's, and save your precious Data, Music, Videos, and Photos. Personally, I saved my complete Music Collection on only one 50 Gb Blu-ray Disc. I used 50 Gb Blu-ray bought at Best Buy, but you can also use other brands, recommended by manufacturer depending on the purpose. I personally used ones bought at Best Buy and my non-PC Blu-ray Player recognized it without errors and reproduced well on my HDTV. You can burn the equivalent of quite a bit more than 10 DVD's on a single 50 Gb Blu-ray Disc. Keep your Data Safe, and minimize space, using less Disc to back-up your data. You can also save your personal non-protected HD Videos using this LG wirter. Comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 software for Windows. If you are a musician, or voiceover artist, with the appropriate equipment and software, you'll be able to record Hi-resolution Audio and then back it up on Blu-ray Discs. Most players will recognize discs being burned by this writer. It connects to your PC using 2 USB at the same time. Consult Geek Squad to see if it will work if your PC only comes with just one. They'll also tell you if it may be compatible with Apple MAC

Im using this drive with MakeMKV to backup my movies. The LG it replaced died after just 447 movies! I just have 4K UHD’s left and this drive has done a little over 40 movies so far. Have had zero read issues and the drive performs fantastic. Now you should be realistic when considering the noise this thin and portable drive makes. I have it in another room, obviously it is going to be more noisy than a fullsize drive in a desktop chassis. If speed is not an issue, you could always lower the speed and tame down the whine i guess, but it completely normal for a drive this size. Avg 1.5+ hours to rip a 4K UHD less for standard Blu-Ray obviously.

This little gem has probably been my best purchase of an external device. Straight from the box it was easy to set up and use. No buffering issues, no loud whirling sounds and does not overheat. If you have a high quality monitor and want to watch blu-ray on your PC this is the device to have. It is decently priced, easy to use and does a great job.

I bought this handy dandy little drive back in 2021 when my internal Sony Blu Ray drive - purchased in 2008 - wasn't enough for needs, and with multiple computers I wanted something portable to move from computer to computer. This thing has worked great and FAST on my 2018 desktop so that when I needed another one, I got the exact same model over three years later. I recently got a 4K drive, which is nice, but can't read everything that this one can. There are a lot of cheaper ones on the market, but this LG has never failed me.

Solid 4K blu-ray burner. Good compatibility, When using the drive, make sure it does not move. The tolerances on the device are pretty tight and the eye could scratch a disk if the drive gets bumped while reading discs.

    Surprisingly Fast External Blu-ray Burner

For an external Blu-ray burner, this little LG one was a surprise. So far it has handled all the disc formats I put in it. It is very fast for a USB drive as well. The only negative thing about it is that it is pretty loud and vibrates a lot. This is to be expected though for a thin external drive spinning at high speeds. That can be helped a bit though with carefully placing something with a little weight on top of it, or by placing it on one of those thin rubber anti-slip pads. Other than that, this drive is awesome.

All Formats In A Portable Size

Replaced an expensive desktop old version BluRay that would not handle all the formats. This new LG is small, portable, and worked on the first try with only the power from the USB3 port. So far, it has read and writes every format I've had to do. A little noisier than the Pioneer portable BD I have, but the LG is a front loader and the Pioneer is a top loader, so the LG is more friendly to work with.

This is a great blu-ray drive. it is smaller then I thought it would be making it very portable. The unit is a little loud when spinning up the disc but most blu-ray drives are. Great deal at less the 100 dollars.

    Blu-ray Player for a Traveler

I bought this to use as a DVD/Blu-ray player with my laptop when I travel. It is compact and lightweight. It comes with Cyberlink software for playing discs, which works well. It is an older version, and they would like you to upgrade to the latest version for $59. Not really necessary. The player works well with both DVDs and Blu-rays. It is powered through the laptop and has a unique cable with dual USB A connectors for power and data transmission. My Dell laptop has two USB A ports close together, so this was not an issue. I used it with just one connector plugged in and it worked fine. Since I've only used it for a few weeks, I can't comment on durability, but it seems well made, and LG is a good brand. It does what I needed it to do.

I bought this for my ultrabook for times when traveling I may purchase and want to view blue-ray movies and makes it possible to back lots of info on my computer to one blue-ray blank. I have also used it with other computer which came with regular dvd-rw drives. The drive had a good price and is small and portable.

    Great External Blu-ray BDRE Drive

This external drive is very good. It plays Blu-rays very well with no issues. Even though it has USB 2.0 input the drive runs fast. For burning Blu-rays its fast for 8X speed. If you plan to burn a 50GB Blu-ray disc be prepared to wait a little while. I recommend you using TDK discs for burning. This drive is also a great DVD drive. If you plan to use this drive for those discs for viewing and burning it works. I suggest you use the latest Nero burning software for burning. The drive comes with software but it's only good for playing Blu-rays. Overall great drive for the price and very slim and takes up very little space on top of your desk or computer tower.

Able to play regular Blu-ray movies... beware included CyberLink software and USB connections. Able to connect the 2 USB ports that are next to each other on my (2 year old Dell laptop [notebook]) computer. Cannot connect to my ThinkPad computer (again, laptop [notebook]) unless an adapter is used which I have not tried yet. My ThinkPad has only USB-C ports. CyberLink will try to install MS dll from 2008 but aborts. I have 2010 and beyond. Instructions exist on the Internet to uninstall pre 2010 and reinstall afterwards or get around the obstacle to for CyberLink to install. I hate messing with stuff like that just to satisfy the installation. This CyberLink software is not required to use this device. I guess it was included as a bonus. I have not tried it with a TV and am wondering until I find out. Using Windows 11 with Media player on the Dell, the device and Blu-ray disc worked fine. Initially tried to use VideoLan (VLC), but encountered errors after following instructions to get it to play. I still have to test out burning discs. Have not tried it through Linux yet. If you intend to buy because of the software, beware the install process. I bought this because of the higher speed than another LG model Best Buy sells for less cost. This model indicated various types of discs I am interested in. It was on sale.

I was able to update it's firmware to support 4K UHD discs very easily, took about 10 minutes of effort. Ripped a4k disc with makemkv. Ripped slightly faster than my other Blu Ray drive. I bought this one as a backup if my other drive dies (it's pretty old) since these external drives are getting rare. Buy a reputable drive while you still can
