This little gem has probably been my best purchase of an external device. Straight from the box it was easy to set up and use. No buffering issues, no loud whirling sounds and does not overheat. If you have a high quality monitor and want to watch blu-ray on your PC this is the device to have. It is decently priced, easy to use and does a great job.

This is a great blu-ray drive. it is smaller then I thought it would be making it very portable. The unit is a little loud when spinning up the disc but most blu-ray drives are. Great deal at less the 100 dollars.

All Formats In A Portable Size

Replaced an expensive desktop old version BluRay that would not handle all the formats. This new LG is small, portable, and worked on the first try with only the power from the USB3 port. So far, it has read and writes every format I've had to do. A little noisier than the Pioneer portable BD I have, but the LG is a front loader and the Pioneer is a top loader, so the LG is more friendly to work with.

Able to play regular Blu-ray movies... beware included CyberLink software and USB connections. Able to connect the 2 USB ports that are next to each other on my (2 year old Dell laptop [notebook]) computer. Cannot connect to my ThinkPad computer (again, laptop [notebook]) unless an adapter is used which I have not tried yet. My ThinkPad has only USB-C ports. CyberLink will try to install MS dll from 2008 but aborts. I have 2010 and beyond. Instructions exist on the Internet to uninstall pre 2010 and reinstall afterwards or get around the obstacle to for CyberLink to install. I hate messing with stuff like that just to satisfy the installation. This CyberLink software is not required to use this device. I guess it was included as a bonus. I have not tried it with a TV and am wondering until I find out. Using Windows 11 with Media player on the Dell, the device and Blu-ray disc worked fine. Initially tried to use VideoLan (VLC), but encountered errors after following instructions to get it to play. I still have to test out burning discs. Have not tried it through Linux yet. If you intend to buy because of the software, beware the install process. I bought this because of the higher speed than another LG model Best Buy sells for less cost. This model indicated various types of discs I am interested in. It was on sale.

This drive worked perfectly allowing me to copy all the movies I have accumulated over time. Around 200 with a mixture of blu-ray and standard DVDS. Flawless for all.

I bought this for my ultrabook for times when traveling I may purchase and want to view blue-ray movies and makes it possible to back lots of info on my computer to one blue-ray blank. I have also used it with other computer which came with regular dvd-rw drives. The drive had a good price and is small and portable.

I bought this to go with a laptop I have that doesn’t have a built in drive to play DVDs or Bluray. It does take two USB ports so it’s highly recommended to have a USB adapter that allows for more devices to be connected. It plays whatever DVDs or bluray media I insert. Great option for watching movies/tv shows on the go.

Great External Blu-ray BDRE Drive

This external drive is very good. It plays Blu-rays very well with no issues. Even though it has USB 2.0 input the drive runs fast. For burning Blu-rays its fast for 8X speed. If you plan to burn a 50GB Blu-ray disc be prepared to wait a little while. I recommend you using TDK discs for burning. This drive is also a great DVD drive. If you plan to use this drive for those discs for viewing and burning it works. I suggest you use the latest Nero burning software for burning. The drive comes with software but it's only good for playing Blu-rays. Overall great drive for the price and very slim and takes up very little space on top of your desk or computer tower.

This works very good.
My main purpose was to read Blu-ray discs, I read only reviews about DVDs, so I was hesitant about it.
Nevertheless, this worked just fine, speed is ok but if you're transmitting high bitrate video make sure your USB port in your computer can handle that speed.
Very portable totally recommend it.

Works Well as Blu-ray Player

I only use it as a Blu-ray player. It works just fine with my MacBook Pro and old Mac Pro. Plug & play. Of course you'll have to buy third party playback and burning software separately. It has a dual USB 2.0 'Y' cable in case it needs more power from your laptop. Most modern one's should work with the single connection. It's relatively quiet when playing discs compared to other brands. I use headphones most of the time anyhow. The green LED is small, it's on the front, and unobtrusive. You have to get used to the front loading tray. It pops out slightly on it's own which is good. But I pull it out slowly (just I'm paying attention and don't potentially break it). You have to hold your hand underneath the tray in order to snap the disc onto the spindle. It fits very snuggly on the spindle yet is easy enough to take the disc off. I slowly slide the tray in. It locks well. Blu-rays show up fast on the desktop. USB 2.0 won't be as fast as 3.0 for burning or installing software. But I don't use it for that. Overall just be deliberate with the tray and the disc on the spindle and you'll be fine.

Great Slim Blu-Ray Drive

I've had this LG Slim Blu Ray Drive for about 4 months now. In that time, I've used it to read dozens of discs (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray). If you flash it with new firmware, you can even get it to play 4K UHD blu-ray discs! Overall, I'm very satisfied--my only complaint is that the cable is fairly short and requires two USB-A ports (one for power and one for data from what I understand). Other than that, it's great, especially if you can get it on sale!

Very easy to hook up to a new PC without a disc drive. The price was good and quality seems very good so far. Blu-ray adds additional capability for watching movies on the PC.

So far this has been an extremely easy to use player. Plugged in, connected automatically and was up and running in just a few moments. I’ve used this to install older software that I still use and have disks for as well as watched DVDs and Blu-Rays with it. The quality is very good. It’s pretty quiet except for when initializing the disk on startup. I usually keep in my back pack with my laptop and it makes it very easy to to be able to watch movies while. traveling. Would definitely recommend. My only complaint after months of use is that it takes up two USB ports to operate.

This has proven a reliable BD/DVD/CD reader and burner. I got it as a portable device that I could move to different systems as needed and to give BD burner support for large audio project backup. A single project can easily break 20GB, uncompressed, so DVD just isn't going to cut it.
It works well in both PC and Mac. That latter was discovered when my wife had to use a Mac that was provided to her to burn several playlists for performance CDs.
I would suggest that you stick with the 25GB single layer discs for now. The 50GB are not reliable. This is a technological limitation, not an issue with this or *any* other BD drive.

This is such a great blu-ray! I love being able to use it with my laptop or tv wherever I'm at! The software that came with it didn't work originally and i had to go through a long process to get good software but all in all it worked out and I thoroughly enjoy it!

The good: It’s fast, quiet, and slim. Best of all, you can flash it with LibreDrive to do UHD Blu-ray’s (it’ll only do standard Blu-ray’s otherwise).
The bad: It requires the highly customized micro-USB cable that has 2 USB-A ports on the other end. Since you can’t use a standard cable, you can’t make it longer or shorter to fit your needs. This would have been so easily solved with USB-C or micro-USB B 3.0.
