Customers value the ease of use, Blu-ray functionality, compact size, and compatibility of the 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter. Many appreciate its performance and the affordable price point. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the included software and the noise level during operation. The positive feedback on ease of use and Blu-ray playback outweighs the negative comments on software and noise.

If you need to burn blu-rays or dvds, or to just play discs, this unit will meet your needs! All software is included and is quite comprehensive. Can be a bit noisy with some discs, but not terrible. Be warned that this uses a dual USB-A plug, so you'll need 2 open ports on your computer to use it. Since I have ports on each side of the laptop, I just use a usb extension cable to connect the second usb plug. Kinda wish this model used USB-C, rather than micro-USB, though

I bought this product at the last minute, around the end of the year. I had a few movies around the house and wanted to see if I could get them to play on my computer. Unfortunately, the software the player comes with is quite temperamental and slow, so this wasn't an efficient way to watch them. It's a shame computers don't come with optical drives anymore. I didn't think I'd have a need or use for one in 2023/2024, but here we are.
Overall, I'd recommend the product, as it starts quickly when connected to a computer.

I got this as my new laptop didn't have a built in Blu-ray player. It is really easy to install the software and works great. Really small and light weight so it would be easy to take with you on a trip etc.. Speed is quick.

A bit noisy seems to work okay on a Mac M3 MacBook Air have yet to test it with burning a Blu-ray disc plays movies just fine some discs are not legible though I do not know if it's because I am on a Mac or or what but it was able to burn a entire DVD in about 40 minutes which is not too bad

Bought this for use with my iMAC and it works great. Note the software inside the box is only for Windows so you will need to provide your own software. Leawo had a suite for about $100 that meets all the DVD/Blue Ray playing/burning/converting on Apple OS. It can extract a Blue ray in about 15 minutes so just what I was looking for. Highly recommend it. 5 stars would have been to also provide an apple OS version.

So far this is a good player. Took some set up... but its pretty solid. One thing to note is this is not usb c.... so... that sucks. It also did take a lot of work to get it to play blue rays which is a bummer.

This is a great blu ray writer drive for under $100. Works with many formats and is seamless with my laptop that doesn’t have its own internal drive.

Works fine. Not any louder than any other drive I have used. Fast and easy to use. Plug and play right out the box. Extremely light and portable. My only complaint is having to use both my USB ports for power. I only have two on my laptop so I had to get a Bluetooth mouse in order to have full functionality.

It works great as a DVD, CD, and Bluray player. The only complaint is that it the cord is really short and when I checked the manual from LG is said that the cable was mini-usb to usb-a Y splitter when it was actually micro-usb not mini. I would strongly recommend getting a micro-usb to usb-a cord if you want to put it anywhere other than right on top of your computer (It can play CDs/DVDs with just a micro-usb to usb-a cord, but I don't think it can burn them with only 1 usb-a connection, but I haven't tested that as I only use it to play)

External Blu-ray drives get spotty performance reviews so I wasn’t sure which to buy. I’m partial to LG products so I went with this one. I purchased this drive to rip my Blu-ray library, and I’ve had no problems with its performance whatsoever. It comes with optional 3rd party video software that runs on Windows, not Mac. It runs on both PC and Mac platforms. It requires 2 side by side USB ports to run, one for power and one for data transfer, so if you want to use it on a newer a Mac you’ll likely need a hub. It’s all plastic so be sure to treat it as breakable.

My only complaint about this, is that you have to have at least two USB ports right next to each other on your computer in order for this to be usable. Or you can always buy a USB power strip, just with this price I would expect it to be a little more user friendly. Also, the fact that you seem to have to download and use only the cyberlink software is kind of an annoyance. Once you get it plugged in and everything installed it works really well, even on uneven surfaces.

I bought this drive because I just bought a Asus G751 and its DVD drive was DOA. I actually opened the drive and extracted and installed it in my Asus and it fit just perfectly,(it is a 9.5mm drive btw). So far the drive has worked great for me and have had no problems with the hardware. The software that is included though is hopelessly outdated, as of this review the newest version of PowerDVD is 15, what is included is PowerDVD 10... It works on Windows 8.1 but with Windows 10 around the corner I am worried that it will have issues.
Over all though, for 85 Dollars this is a steal.

Quite compact. Feels a bit delicate, and isn't particularly quiet. It would be a little loud for watching blu rays. It hasn't had any trouble reading the disks I've fed it.
You don't need to plug it into two USB ports if you have a more modern, powerful port available.

Purchased online and shipped to home. Arrived on the given date. The DVD RW/Player worked perfectly to play movies. Which was in intended use. No software to download first. The device comes with one USB cable with two USB plug ends.I plugged the device in with using only one of the two USB ends. Opened the door, put in a BlueRay movie and closed the door. The movie played within 10 seconds. Worked perfectly. No issues at all. Apple products seem to interface with everything I need and with no drivers or software to download. Not like silly Windows stuff I used to struggle with for years. Great product.

LG Blu-ray Disc Writer: Great Value

At $74.99 this Blu-Ray reader/writer was a great value and something I truly wanted. My goal was to create personal data backups on 25G BD-R discs with a branded surface (rather than my usual 4.7 G DVD backups). This drive has handled all media capably thus far. It also comes with Cyberlink Media Suite which is a nice bonus.
My complaints (which are minor given the price):
1. This unit requires 2 USB-C ports within about 4 inches of each other, one to your laptop and one to a power source. My solution is to plug the 'PC' USB into the computer, and plug the 'power' USB into a standard wall charger via extension cord. So far so good, and it's really not an issue other than uglying up my laptop desk space.
2. The actual drive mechanism is not a mechanized tray load or slot load, but the standard flimsy-feeling laptop mechanism - you snap the disc onto the tray and then push the tray into the drive manually. This was no surprise given the slim size of the drive; hopefully it will last.

Perfect for what I needed. A lot of newer laptops are coming out and have no disc drive, well I needed something for long airplane rides or long road trips when WiFi is unavailable to keep the kids entertained. It is small and compact to easily throw in a bag. The only thing holding it back is all the extra software they try to get you to install with it. Some of it is unnecessary so I suggest looking closely at what boxes you check when downloading the software.
