I bought this product at the last minute, around the end of the year. I had a few movies around the house and wanted to see if I could get them to play on my computer. Unfortunately, the software the player comes with is quite temperamental and slow, so this wasn't an efficient way to watch them. It's a shame computers don't come with optical drives anymore. I didn't think I'd have a need or use for one in 2023/2024, but here we are. Overall, I'd recommend the product, as it starts quickly when connected to a computer.

This drive worked perfectly allowing me to copy all the movies I have accumulated over time. Around 200 with a mixture of blu-ray and standard DVDS. Flawless for all.

Purchased online and shipped to home. Arrived on the given date. The DVD RW/Player worked perfectly to play movies. Which was in intended use. No software to download first. The device comes with one USB cable with two USB plug ends.I plugged the device in with using only one of the two USB ends. Opened the door, put in a BlueRay movie and closed the door. The movie played within 10 seconds. Worked perfectly. No issues at all. Apple products seem to interface with everything I need and with no drivers or software to download. Not like silly Windows stuff I used to struggle with for years. Great product.

Overall, I am very pleased with this drive. I haven't checked the rewriting capabilities, so I can't comment on them, but everything else is great. All I needed was a simple Blu-ray player for an old computer, and the really cheap ones on other sites make me nervous. LG is a brand I more-or-less trust, the reviews for this drive were consistently positive, and the price was very good. It worked great out of the box, it comes with the software necessary to watch Blu-ray movies, and I really have nothing negative to say about it.

Perfect for what I needed. A lot of newer laptops are coming out and have no disc drive, well I needed something for long airplane rides or long road trips when WiFi is unavailable to keep the kids entertained. It is small and compact to easily throw in a bag. The only thing holding it back is all the extra software they try to get you to install with it. Some of it is unnecessary so I suggest looking closely at what boxes you check when downloading the software.

Quite compact. Feels a bit delicate, and isn't particularly quiet. It would be a little loud for watching blu rays. It hasn't had any trouble reading the disks I've fed it. You don't need to plug it into two USB ports if you have a more modern, powerful port available.

    Plug and Play

I needed to replace a internal DVD drive on my older desktop. I could have gotten another internal DVD drive but was excited when I saw the external blu ray drive for such a great price. It plays as well as records. You can use CD, DVD or Blu ray. No software to download, my computer automatically recognized it and downloaded the drivers. I have not tried to use it for a TV, there are directions to do so. It is made to be used by a computer by default. It also uses a cable that is forked. It has two USB A plugs and one micro USB plug. It is short, and that makes it great for a laptop, not so much for a desktop.

I wanted to watch my Netflix Blu-Ray discs with my laptop on a plane so I picked up this drive. Slim & light, didn't add any significant bulk to my laptop bag. Pretty much plug & play (although some software needs to be installed for Blu-Ray, all other disc types are supported at first plug-in).

Writes and plays perfectly. Light, compact, and works great with free and open source software. Note that the included software will not work if you have an existing optical drive installed. Unfortunately nothing in the documentation with mine indicated that. The free alternatives are far better anyway, so I'm giving it a top rating. I would recommend that LG provide better documentation on the included software or just not supply it.

This unit unusually uses two USB-A ports (power and data), but otherwise does what it says on the tin. It also can run modified firmware to unlock 4K/UHD Blu-Ray discs. Can't argue with that functionality! Definitely prefer the tray loading drive to a slot loader.

Many new computers do not come with a CD, DVD or Blu-ray drive. This drive provides the perfect solution for the disc based media we all have from recent years. The additional benefit is the ability to watch Blu-ray movies on a computer. The drive is small and can sit on top of your computer or desk. The only downside is the cd tray seems a little flimsy when inserting a disk.

LG Blu-ray Disc Writer: Great Value

At $74.99 this Blu-Ray reader/writer was a great value and something I truly wanted. My goal was to create personal data backups on 25G BD-R discs with a branded surface (rather than my usual 4.7 G DVD backups). This drive has handled all media capably thus far. It also comes with Cyberlink Media Suite which is a nice bonus. My complaints (which are minor given the price): 1. This unit requires 2 USB-C ports within about 4 inches of each other, one to your laptop and one to a power source. My solution is to plug the 'PC' USB into the computer, and plug the 'power' USB into a standard wall charger via extension cord. So far so good, and it's really not an issue other than uglying up my laptop desk space. 2. The actual drive mechanism is not a mechanized tray load or slot load, but the standard flimsy-feeling laptop mechanism - you snap the disc onto the tray and then push the tray into the drive manually. This was no surprise given the slim size of the drive; hopefully it will last.
