Needs software that works with BluRay.

Alternative software (VLC) suggested by Best Buy is tedious but eventually works with some but not all store-bought Blu-Ray movies made in the last couple years.

Great external drive

I purchased the first one when I bought my new Toshiba laptop that did not have an optical drive. Bought this again as a gift for my daughter & son-in-law so I am assured that I will continue to get annual birthday videos of my granddaughter. They recently purchased a new MAC which does not have an optical drive. They realized it when they tried to burn a DVD for me. The unit does what it is supposed to do, play and write.
