Easy installation, works well, but software needs to be upgraded to make it fully functional as a R/W drive. I bought this for that feature, as my home computer had a dvd player, but not capable of making a mirror image of my hard drive. Well this units software said I couldn't do this without buying the upgraded version of the software. I was disappointed to learn this, as this was the purpose of making this purchase in the first place, now having to purchase the next level of software to make it fully functional. It's small and compact and easy to use, just limited in what it can do. This should be included with product description.

This little drive is awesome. My new laptop didn’t have a drive and I needed something in a pinch. Picked this up at my local Best Buy. Set up was super simple. It burns discs fast too. Lots of additional programs/features with the downloadable software. I highly recommend.

I bought this because I needed an optical drive for my MBPr. It works great! Installation was a breeze and it was not as noisy/loud as I thought it would be. Very compact and lightweight. Just remember that if you use this with a Mac, you have to press the "eject" option from the file menu on- screen, not on the drive itself. Also, great value for the price! Does not read Blue- ray, but I could care less about that.

So happy with my LG disc writer. My laptop does not have a disc option in it. I have pictures from years past and am now able to view them! It is very simple to operate and links right up with the USB cable. Definitely recommend this item for price and quality.

At only 6.6 oz (less than 200 grams), this drive is a lightweight addition to my laptop bag and gives me the ability to have my slim laptop available but maintains the option to play DVDs and access media saved to optical discs. I purchased it for about $25 on-sale. I've tested this by playing a disc (most Windows laptops don't have a player capable of decoding DVDs, so I used the trial that came with the drive), a standard DVD played fine. I don't keep many write-able discs on-hand, so I've yet to test it's writing capability. I'm a little disappointed in the build quality--it's quite light (a plus) but the top is a brushed-steel look textured plastic, and knowing this I would have saved myself $10 and gotten the black plastic finish instead--both drives have the same specifications. A concern with this build quality--the plastic top is somewhat flexible; attempting to open or close the disk tray while holding the unit steady from the top/front edge will cause the disk tray to not close or error when trying to open. This model is packaged with the words "Mac Compatible" on it--which just appears to be a branding choice. Included in the package is a USB 2.0 to microUSB cable, warranty leaflet with some instructions, and CD-ROM to install a trial of DVD player/authoring programs--the disk has an exe file that searches CyberLink's website for the most current trial version. (The trial disk has a 2015 copywrite. Just throw it in the garbage and locate a free player online or purchase a full copy of a professional suite for authoring.) The upgraded model that Best Buy caries is the slot-loading version (www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-8x-external-double-layer-dvdrw-cd-rw-supermulti-blade-drive-silver/1802033.p?skuId=1802033) which appears to ship with an LG-branded DVD authoring utility--I'm not sure if it's a trial or a licensed version.

The drive was just what I needed for my laptop. It worked as soon as I put a CD/DVD in. The price was great and the brushed metal look matches my laptop.

Plug & play. Works just like an internal DVD drive and the speed is fast. Size is small (slim) and easy to carry. I recommend this product.

I upgraded from a SONY PLASMA and it's a whole new viewing experience. The picture is great and it comes with options for picture viewing, picture mode, movie mode dynamic mode etc. There is also a great connector hub for HDMI and USB cables which is more convenient than having to get behind the set. Also only one slim wire is exiting the TV rather than many cables. The apps are all on the home screen for Cable, Netflix, Amazon Hulu, Vudu and more. Web browser works great and I now can stream workout videos so easily (no need for CD player) The picture is the best part and it's wonderful!

Many laptop computers these days don't come with a DVD drive. This little toy gives you the ability to install those old hardware drivers, or watch a movie, or backup valuable data. They are an invaluable tool to carry around with me everywhere

This item was reasonably priced and does what it should....that is, it allows you to play CDs/DVDs (what I was able to do on my older laptops). We were told that the new laptops are made without the CD/DVD drive because they are unnecessary. Unfortunately, I do not find this to be true, or why would the only laptops left that include this option cost more money? (not just $50 more, either) We took the laptop to Geek Squad to load newly purchased Photo software....and, guess what?...they needed to pull out an external CD/DVD drive in order to install it for us. My daughter uses this product to watch DVD movies in her dorm room. I use it to create picture DVD movies with the Movie Maker program. So, guess it's a necessary purchase if you want to purchase a reasonably priced laptop.

This is a very slim drive but well built. The removable USB cable is a big plus. I can use a longer cable and place the drive where I want. The drive also travels well in my backpack with no fear of stressing an attached cable. Pluged the drive into my Mac mini and worked right away. Could have spent less on a larger drive or more on the Apple SuperDrive. Very pleased with this drive.
