It was also different than others in a good way. Different, more user friendly controls and nicer sounds. It was also very easy to clean. However, after just 4 months of "normal" use (we prefer the stove to microwave cooking) the heating element sparked and caught fire. The fire went out once I stopped the cooking. I tried again and got the same result. 4 months is just plain bad for any appliance. The only thing that saved LG was how great their support/service was. Without even a photo of what happened, they refunded me for the full purchase price in less than 48 hours. I never was on hold more than 5 minutes. There was only one catch...I had to buy another LG microwave. This was the cheapest one, so we'll see how long the new one lasts. In general in my research, the inverter technology looks great and makes sense, but it's not ready for use in the home yet. Most microwaves with inverters have stories in reviews about fires like what happened to us. If I LG had not forced me to buy another LG, I would have bought a microwave without an inverter until the technology improves and is truly ready.

This is a identical replacement microwave for a unit that failed. Bought this model because it has a smart inverter. Haven’t seen any benefit from the smart inverter. However this is a nice microwave, so I would give it four stars for looks and function. I then deducted one star for the first failure and lack of benefits for the “smart function”.

Time will tell if that’s the case, but so far I am loving this one! They make a big deal in their marketing about the “Smart Inverter Magnetron” in this microwave. I’m not really sure what that even is, but it definitely heats food better than the ones I’ve had in the past. I rarely ever get cold spots any more.

It works well, only one thing that I find inconvenient: setting cook times. The (+)/(-) control is inconvenient and doesn't allow fine-tuning times above 3 minutes. If I want 3 min 15 sec have to set 3min, 30sec and manually stop it at 3min 15 sec. That means I am not free to do other work in the kitchen while I wait to stop it at the desired time.
