I bought this player for it's ability to play both Dolby vision and hdr10 format 4k discs and in that respect, it does! My first player only displayed in hdr10, which is great, but for me, I find that Dolby vision looks a little richer.
The main menu is very straight forward and easy to navigate...no instructions are even necessary. As far as apps tho, that's where this player gets it's 4 star from me and not 5. The only ones available are the YouTube and Netflix apps. For the cost of this player I feel they could've put some more in it. At the very least, include Hulu, Amazon, Netflix and maybe Vudu. Thankfully those other apps are available thru other devices.
Now onto build quality: I'd say this feels a little on the cheap side. When compared to my last player, the Sony ubp-x800, this new player doesn't compare. The Sony is built like a tank. If I dropped that one from 4ft up, I'd be shocked to even see a scratch (not that I'd ever try that). The LG gives me no such confidence. This is much lighter and also a bit smaller too. The size though... I do prefer this one for being a bit smaller and it's nice that it takes up less space on the shelf.
Bottom line is, this player plays the formats I need it to, and does it perfectly. The simple menu and settings makes this a "just plug and play" type 4k player and that works for me. If you are looking for something with more settings options and app availability, I'd look at something else. But if simple and barebones is more to your liking, this one's for you.

This is a solid straightforward UHD Blu Ray player. The picture quality is great and it plays all older formats. I chose this device over the UBK80 because it supports Dolby Vision and connects to WiFi. My TV does not currently support Dolby Vison but my next set will so it's future-proofed. WiFi does support a couple of Apps but these are unnecessary if using with nearly any modern smart TV or if you have a Fire, Apple box, etc. connected to your TV. The WiFi though does make software updates much easier. For these reasons, it's better to spend a bit extra and get this version to protect your investment.

Need this to complete my home theater 4K Dolby Atmos System. This is one of the few media players that has Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision supported. I bought this specifically for the Hanz Zimmer concert on Blu-Ray and I have been very pleased with the performance of the unit. Would buy again.

This player does a great job playing 4K discs.
Pros:
-Dolby vision support
-Separate HDMI out for audio for those of us with older receivers that fo no support Dolby Vision pass through
-Price
Cons:
-The graphical user interface is very old looking. Like stepping back in time 10 years
-This player didn’t like my older HDMI cables, despite them being 4K compliant. The video kept flickering on my tv. I replaced my cable with a brand new monoprice and this fixed the problem.
Overall this does a great job at playing 4K movies.

I don't want to buy made in Japan player. I don't want to buy Samsung. LG is my only choice.
It supports Dolby vision and atmos. That's good. It also supports Wifi.
The bad thing is that I can't find how to install app on it.
It seems that there is no way.
Bottom line, these days, most of the manufacture don't make a bluray player and more will quit. I respect LG for keep making it. But I hope that there is a way to install apps on this like their TV line.

I have had many DVD with WiFi connectivity, but until now they have all been problematic and unreliable, leading to hours of frustration. I am so glad I read the reviews because the LG UBK 90 4K UHD is as reviewed the most easy to use Blue Ray DVD player you can find. The 4K Ultra HD with upscaling provides an unbelievably clear picture which will give your 4K Ultra HD television a picture that will make you feel like you are right there. And the best part is the price. Thank you LG and Thank You Best Buy. And thank you to the knowledgeable Best Buy Staff, you are the Best!

I finally took the plunge on a 4k player. This one was $50 more than the Sony X700. With that one you have to manually tun on Dolby Vision whereas with the UBK90 it's automaticay detected. This player isn't too noisy & it has a solid feel to the actual machine. The video quality is perfect without any fine tuning. It does a great job with 1080p blu-rays but Ip am impressed at how very well it upscales lower resolution dvds as well. I don't need the player for streaming but it only has Netflix and Youtube apps.

Went through 3 other 4K players before this player. 2 of the LG UP970's and a Sony X700. All 3 of them kept skipping and locking up. Crutchfield let me return the LG's and replaced them with the Sony. After contacting Sony customer service they offered to refund my purchase. Picked up the UBK90 and have not had an issue since. It plays all my disc's without issue. Dolby Vision out of the box was nice too. It is a plain looking player that just works and works well.

I purchased this player to pair up with my LG 4k set. The home menu is pretty bland and does not have many apps to work with. However the picture quality is amazing, the player is very responsive and gets to the disk menu very fast. I also like the fact this player features Dolby vision. The chassis is plastic no front display which does not bother me.

Great player. I initially had purchased the Sony X700 4K blu-ray player, but I kept having problems with it locking up while viewing several different movies. I exchange the player and still had the same problems. I returned the player to Walmartand came to Best Buy where I looked at several of their Blu-ray players. I settled on the LG because it had everything I needed in a 4K Blu-ray player, and Best Buy had it at a great price. They normally have it at $299.99, but had it on sale for $199.99 and with Dolby Vision and HDR10 and HLG this was the player for me. I’ve had several LG Blu-ray, and have never had a problem with them. They also interact with all the LG tv’s that I own, so that makes it even more appropriate for purchase. Even though the LG lacks all of the online Smart features, I would still recommend this player to anyone who is looking for a good 4K player.

I picked this up when it was on sale and came with 3 4K Blu Rays of my choice. I had a standard LG Blu Ray player before and this works just like that one did. It loads quickly and it's quiet. My only compliant is that sometimes when I turn it on the screen shows white static. I'll turn off the Blu Ray player and turn it back on and it's fine. It's happened a few times now. Not sure why it would do that, but it's great otherwise. It's also pretty bulky, but that's a minor nit-pick.

It works great: super silent when in use, rapid boot time, simple to use.
I didn't care about the online features, so I am giving it five stars, but, LG, come on: there is really NOTHING in terms of apps on this player. No online store to add apps from like on Samsung players. So if you are looking to use this for your online streaming, with its present software version I cannot recommend it at all.
It's great for what I got it: to stream 4K Blue-rays in all their undiluted glory.

I saw a lot of mixed reviews and didn't know what to buy to pair with 55 inch LG B9 as I was comparing this to the Panasonic UB820 that I have on main tv. The picture quality was excellent and I didn't experience any freezing as a lot of people had mentioned. There were a few discs that skipped but I have my movies in books and after I cleaned them they worked flawlessly. It was an easy to set up and it easily recognizes dolby vision content which is a huge plus.

Did quite a bit of research. Player came highly recommended with Consumer Reports. Movies are crisp, sharp, detailed and colors are accurate. Even when playing regular dvd's they looked almost 4k quality. Very impressed with overall performance of this player. If you dont need wi fi the LG UBK80 series is a great option as well.

I've had this 4k player for about five months. Generally, it performs as you expect it to. Given that it's Dolby Vision/Atmos and DTS:X capable, you'll be getting a player that processes the most premium visual and audio elements currently available. However, there is a trade-off. It appears LG didn't give this unit enough processing power to process all of this additional data. When watching a Dolby Vision/Atmos enabled movie, about 75% of the time the unit will freeze up about 75% through the movie. There's nothing you can do. The picture is still there but pressing play, pause, or anything else does nothing. The only solution is to power off the unit and power it back on. You'll be able to resume your movie with no issue. I finally got tired of this and sent it back for a warranty replacement. It took about a month (entirely too long LG) but LG sent back my unit with a new motherboard. This has largely solved the problem, however, I have experienced a couple freeze ups since then. And more often, a movie will skip a little. It's not horrible, but for the cost of this player it's unacceptable.

I haven't had any problems out of it the only thing I do not like is the fact that I've got a consistently change the picture settings within the Blu-ray player on every single movie. Because I use user also it does not allow for Dolby Vision to be turned on or off. One thing I can say is I have never seen nor have I had any updates for this Blu-ray player. Now I just use it for 4K Blu-ray movies and it does absolutely phenomenal. Of course I have it hooked to my LG C1(65") and let me tell you. If you want the absolute best picture quality you can possibly get today skip streaming an go Blu-ray. 4K Blu-ray blows everything out of the water and when you combine that with an OLED or any Good quality TV there is nothing that comes close. Disney+ is the closest you get to Streaming 4K Blu-ray Quality an HBOMAX is next. 4K Netflix an Amazon is an absolute joke. Don't pay that Extra. There 4K quality is about equal to a regular HD Blu-ray as is with most Streaming apps.. if you buy a TV and your main mission is picture quality then a 4K Blu-ray player with 4K Blu-ray movies is going to be the absolute best of the best. And that goes with games as well. Disc blows digital out the water
