I love the product and the price. I did not know the external drive had to be plugged up in addition to all the other items I have plugged up in my office so plan ahead. Maybe I am just a little slow since this is my first external drive. Other than that it was very easy to install and works great.

Recent notebook computer purchased did not have a CD/DVD reader. We still have some older CD/DVD based software for sewing and cutting machines that needed to be loaded. I wanted to get a budget unit for the few times I needed the CD/DVD reader. It's a little bulky but I only use it at home and don't have to worry about traveling with it.

Prior to this purchase, I had owned an earlier version of this LG - DVD /CD-RW Drive. It had worked great and lasted me years (it actually still plays DVD's but disc burning is slow). So, I was in the market for a new DVD/CD player and burner. I am still using Windows XP and as such I needed a drive that was compatible. I burn my own DVD's and needed something that was easy to use and set up. This LG - DVD/CD-RW Drive is the newer model of the drive I had owned. I still shopped around and honestly this Drive was the best price (especially at Best Buy) and seemed to have all the functionality I needed AND was compatible with Windows XP. It was easy to set up and the disc burning is fast even with my old Dell Desktop and Windows XP. Plus, the price was perfectly within my limited budget.

I needed an external optical drive for my custom built computer. It acts just like an internal drive would. It appears in Windows as a normal optical drive. It works exactly as it should. It plays and burns disks well.

    Best External DVD Drive

My father was in need of a new dvd drive for his laptop. Instead of waiting for a replacement drive to arrive, I purchased this DVD drive, which attached via USB. Its basically an internal drive in a permanent external housing. Unlike the cheaper LG model, this one is more reliable & much, much faster at both reading & writing discs.

Overall, I'm pleased with the DVD. Windows 10 reconized the drive. The included software is good, buy there is a need to upgrade to a newer version. Superfast and quiet.

I purchased this as my burner on my PC tower went out. Put it on my desk and it relatively quiet compared to most models and I almost never receive any errors when reading or burning copies of CDRs. Overall it is quiet, fast , and efficient. Would buy again

It feels solid and has been very easy to use. I've used it with my Mac and my Windows Laptop. It's been super easy to use on both. I haven't used it to burn anything large yet but I've made DVDs and they've worked great. My only complaint is that it's not very fast. I'd definitely buy it again.

I needed a cd/dvd mostly for the faster read capability to read old backups. Generally the drive works very well, even on old media. And the speed is quite a bit faster than the typical portable drive. Also seems to work very well with my Mac. I have yet to try the burn capability.

I love the quiet speed of these LG burners, which is why I bought this one, to replace my other LG just like it. I cannot give "LG" itself a full 5 stars; however, because these burners don't last long. This is my 3rd one, in 4 years. So; you'll only get a little over a year out of it, before it burns out on ya. Btw; I burn, on average, only a few DVD's per week; so it's not like I'm using it a ton; to warrant it burning-out, after a year and a half or so. So...WHY do I keep coming back, to LG?? Well; virtually ALL burners, at this low price, will not last long, so....LG seems to be the better...of what I've experienced. So; since I cannot afford to go PRO/EXPENSIVE...I accept that I'm just going to have to buy and replace...buy and replace...buy and replace....

My recent purchase of the LG Super-Multi was to replace an 11 year old model of the Super-Multi, which is identical to this new unit. I have a Mac, and the old model could not be updated to the latest Mac OS. The old model still works, though will only burn DVD+R with the Mac. The old model was given to me by a person who takes lousy care of their stuff; it was scratched, dented and showed signs of general abuse. Since the old one is still running after having such a rough life, I got a new one just like it. The new model burns both DVD+R and DVD-R, and also CD-R. The new model works just like the old one; perfectly and quickly. My Mac is a 2017 imac running OS High Sierra 10.13.4.

This is a solid external DVD player that plays well and doesn't make a lot of noise. But keep in mind that it doesn't come with any software to play DVDs which is kind of frustrating.

I needed a dual layer DVD writer and considered replacing my existing internal DVD burner. I went with this external model so I could use it with my laptop. It's not small, fast or cheap, but it does the job and is very easy to use.

So happy I decided to get this one instead of one of the more expensive ones I was looking at! Me and my mother share it between computers and it couldn't be easier to do so. It also burns CDs and DVDs so much faster than my old one!

I bought this burner specifically for use with my old MacBook Pro. My internal burner simply stopped working and I needed to finish a project. It was in stock and I ordered online and picked up the same day. This drive burns much faster and is very quiet.

The LG works just fine. It was fairly easy to set up. And has worked without a glitch for a month+. Wasn't the cheapest option, but difference seems worth it., LG feels very solid and is convenient to use.

The disc drive is very quick and does a great job. The portability of the unit is a real plus. Because it is a stand alone unit, it is a little noisy, but that is to be expected. Like it a lot and very glad I purchased it.

Works on Mac X as an external Drive

My Superdrive on my Mac 10.5.6 would not read the Snow Leopard upgrade disk, but it would read music CD's. I tried the external one that Apple has and it would not work, because my Mac it is not compatible with it. I believe it needs a powered USB port which was not an option on my Mac. So, I purchased this external drive, hooked it up, and installed the Snow Leopard disk. It read it and I was able to upgrade my Mac! The other great thing about this product is that it is compatible with Mac and Windows. I will be using it for my Windows RT too when needed.

I am very happy with the quality and performance of the LG - Super-Multi 24x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD/CD-RW Drive and recommend it. The only downside is that it is a bit large, but nothing that is problematic.
