received the unit and it installed with no problem

I bought this drive to supplement my iMac. Internal drives can fail and mine was showing signs. When I read that this drive had correction skills I was skeptical, but turns out it does a great job reading through damaged dvds. Haven't yet tried the writing functions.

This is supposed to do a multitude of things including burning, CDs and DVDs. Something as simple as playing the DVD is not available. It appears that I have to purchase more software, upgrade, in order to do so.

Relatively cheap, however extraordinary performance!!

I purchased this because my new computer does not have an optical drive, and it had a reasonable price. Just like some of the other reviews it is a bit clunky and large.

Device quality is high. Software is not compatible with Win 10 devices such as Surface 4 Pro. Must upgrade software to burn DVD video. That is unsatisfactory!

ONLY BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE I NEED IT FOR MAKING LIGHTSCRIBE DISCS AS GIFTS. THE PICTURE USED BY BEST BUY INDICATES THAT IS HAS LIGHTSCRIBE (LOGO RIGHT ON THE DEVICE PICTURE) BUT AFTER GETTING IT AND CALLING LG. THEY CONFIRM THIS UNIT AND NO OTHER UNITS AVAILABLE NOW HAVE LIGHTSCRIBE ANYMORE. BESTBUY! PLEASE UPDATE THE PHOTO OF YOUR PRODUCTS TO REPRESENT THE CURRENT MODEL!!!!!!

Very easy to use and is a great addition to my PC.

I had to purchase this for a new computer that did not have an optical drive preinstalled. It serves its function and is fairly compact. I would recommend this product

The price is not that bad. It's easy to install and burns good in the beginning. That bad part is after awhile it starts skipping and scratching your DVD.

There are no drivers to download for this. I suppose it is supposed to be plug and play, but it wasn't recognized on our MS Surface Pro 4. I even called LG about troubleshooting this. Ultimately they said it was a Microsoft issue, and I needed to contact Microsoft. It is so unfortunate that companies provide no drivers and no support for their own product. I had to take it back to Best Buy. I do not recommend this for the Surface Pro. I understand it works on other devices, but it did not on the Surface Pro. Right now, I can find NO external DVD/CD player that works with the Surface Pro 4.

I was debating between this and a non-plug-in kind of dvd drive. Part of me still thinks I should have went with the cordless kind, but this one gives me no problems.

Good DVD reader and writer. Borderline commercial quality. you get what you pay for. it is a good product

I had to buy this DVD - R because apparently computers no longer come with them. I use it for both my Mac and my PC laptop. Burning and reading DVDs and CDs is the function and this one gets the job done!

Pretty average really. Kind of loud, but oh well. The only real complaint is it keeps my computer "awake" all the time. Since I plugged it in, the normal sleep and power settings on my computer have ceased to work.

All I wanted in a DVD recorder/player is to be able to quickly and efficiently record a DVD as a backup for a DVD that is a one of a kind. I am frustrated at being able to do this.

It saved me a lot of money at the time. My disc drive on my laptop was shot and this was better than buying a new computer.

Good product wish it worked the same for MAC. Needs better instructions. Found out totally by accident that it worked fine just plugging it in.

I bought this looking for a replacement to the Apple "Superdrive" I had. And for a while this was great, with no issues. But recently I would be ripping my CDs into iTunes and it would stop and slow down for no reason. Then it decided to stop and slow at the beginning of each track when ripping, and somehow "screwing" up the music files after it was done ripping. The only thing it's good for now is to be lit on fire because it's trash.

Only getting one good DVD out of three. I have another external DVD writer (not same brand) that has maybe one failure in 100. Would not recommend this.
