A novel neckband design with two ways to wear. You can use the retractable cables to use the in-ear headphones, or you can use speaker mode with the external (neckband encased) speakers (which can be disruptive to others). This audio device looks somewhat like a horse collar but also is stylish. The band is part flexible easy to put on or take off and is comfortable to wear although not great for my work outs. The wired earbuds are retractable. When not in use, they retract inside the neckband. It has reasonable controls for audio / phone functions. The audio is not as robust as I would like due to its having subdued base. The system is designed to give you a 360-degree immersive aural experience. The earbuds are able to provide a better experience (but they come with a warning to be careful with the thin cables). You can share music with a person that that has a pair of these (not tested). The unit emulates deep bass through haptics, vibrating the speakers on the neckband. The battery life is excellent 6 hrs. speaker mode / 35 or so hrs. earbud mode. I would like to see them rated for water / dust intrusion. Great concept, Great features, mediocre execution.

First off, these are heavy. I am not some small little dude. I am 6'4" 220 lbs. Most around the neck headsets, when worn, you do not notice after a few seconds. I owned a previous version of these headsets a few years back and loved them. They were comfortable and hardly knew I was wearing them. These, well... You know they are there and not in a comfortable way.
The weight isn't the only problem. A neat feature is the external speakers, allowing you to share your media playback with the people around you who wish you has the earpieces in. The sound from these are muffled because of how they sit on my neck and shoulders. Even taking it off and placing it on a table, the sound is lacking in all aspects coming from the external speakers.
Things don't get much better with the ear pieces. As I said, I have owned Tones before and I know how good they can sound. This version does not deserve the same name. The flat sound coming from the external speakers are mimicked by the internal speakers. Quite honestly, my phones speaker has a richer sound than these do.
I could have received a faulty pair, but I am not impressed at all.
Other neat features are the retractable cords on the earpieces. Unfortunately they don't retract completely every time. Also, the cord to the ear pieces just feels like it will give way pretty quickly. For how heavy the rest of the neck piece is, I would have expected industrial strength wiring to the ear pieces.
I have not been able to get them to pair nor be discoverable from my LG TV.
On the accessory side. No different sized ear cups, one spare pair. No case. Nothing that makes it feel like they were thinking of different sized people when these were packed.
I honestly can't find a scenario where these would enhance any viewing or listening experience. I applaud LG for trying something different. But different isn't always innovative nor good.
These need a major redesign in every way imaginable.

I have a bad left ear, so its hard to find ear buds that will fit. This headphone works great. The ear buds are small and fit in my bad ear and I love that you can also just use the neck bar.
one gripe that I have is that when you use an audio cord to plug in, you cant use the earbuds. It only allows you to use the neck bar piece. I work at a place that I cant use Bluetooth or wifi. And I would have liked to be able to use these there without annoying anyone else. but most ear buds that are Bluetooth don't do this either.
the sound is great, even when gaming with them.
another gripe that I have is that it does not come with a case.
but overall I am satisfied with these.

ive had a few versions of the lg tone headsets, and, always thought they were pretty nice, but never used them long term, because I didnt like the ring hanging on my neck, while having something jammed in my ear lobes.
Well, along comes the Tone studio, which has external speakers and now I dont need to jam the ear buds into my ears.
the sound isnt the greatest coming out of the speakers, but it is decent, and, using it to make and receive phone calls was a breeze.
These things are pricey, and, for this price, you should get some sort of carrying case, but, even so, they are a unique, and solid alternative to headsets that have to be jammed into your ear lobes to work

I also have the LG Tone Infinims from last year, and they sound good, but I these are much better! They sound great and the new external speakers are AWESOME as well. I would say these rival Bose sound - very clear and just all around amazing. I will say the battery life has been a bit shorter than the Infinims (probably because I'm using these a lot more). Highly recommended!!

I have had a lot of different earphones, but this is by far the best. When using it with my cellphone, everything is so much clearer and louder without distortion of any kind. Love that I can just hang it on my neck and forget about it for awhile until I want to listen to music or answer my phone. The sound is excellent with or without the earbuds. The controls are self explanatory and easy to reach. These are definitely my go-to earphones.

Tiny, Tinny Speakers

I'm rating these based on what their selling point is...the surround sound speaker system, which is the only reason I purchased them. The ear buds have the usual excellent quality sound that the LG Bluetooth headsets have become known for. No other brand comes close to the sound quality of LG's Bluetooth ear buds. That being said, I already own LG's Tone Infinim (HBS910) which the Tone Studios don't improve upon, so the big selling point for me was the speaker system.
I live in an apartment and I miss the full surround sound and bass I was able to listen to when I lived in a house. According to all of LG's hype about the Tone Studio, this was groundbreaking new technology that gave the listener "rich volume and theater-quality sound", "real 3D Surround" and the promise that, "the Wearable Bass speakers allow your body to feel the sound as if you are right there". These are words directly from LG.
From the moment I heard about the Tone Studio, I knew I had to have it. I couldn't wait for it to be released. My common sense told me not to believe the hype, but my experience with LG's line of around the neck Bluetooth headsets has been outstanding. I've owned 3 iterations of them, upgrading with each one, and with each upgrade, better sound. So I had plenty of reason to be optimistic based on LG's track record of delivering the goods. And those promises for theater-quality sound, and bass you could feel, made me a believer.
So I ordered one and waited with bated breath. When it arrived, I first made sure it had a full charge. When it was finally all charged up, I began putting it through the paces with a scene from a film that was heavy on bass and surround sound. To get right to the point, it sounded like I had two tiny speakers on my shoulders. The design of the Tone Studio is a bit misleading. It looks like the entire top of each side of the headset is a speaker grill. Actually the only real speaker grills (with holes) are about the diameter of a quarter. As for the downward facing "bass" speakers that were promised to allow my body to "feel the sound as if I was right there"? All I felt were little vibrations on my skin whenever there was a low pitched sound. These speakers also have grills the same size as those on top. So, make no mistake, these are tiny drivers. LG's claim that the, "Wearable Bass maximizes the sense of immersion with special vibration speakers that engage your entire body in low bandwidth", is a complete fantasy.
The speakers are better than most smart phone and tablet speakers. But that certainly wasn't the bar that LG's hype had promised to reach. You can get a set of LG's best sounding Bluetooth earbuds, the Tone Infinim HBS-910, for $50-$60, if you shop around. But these things cost $229.99 (reduced to $199)! My $20 Bluetooth speaker sounds multitudes better than the Tone Studio speakers, and with better bass to boot.
To say I was disappointed would be like saying the surface of the sun is warm...a massive understatement. The LG Tone Studio failed miserably to deliver on the tremendous hype put forward by LG's promotional machine. I expected much more than a great set of Bluetooth earbuds. I expected what was promised.
Save yourself a lot of money by buying the Tone Infinim HBS-910s, and get just as good sounding earbuds. Not only do they sound just as good, but they're a lot more attractive, not looking like you've got an ox yoke around you're neck, and they're more comfortable. After wearing them for a while, I could definitely feel their weight, whereas, I completely forget that the HBS-910s are there.
I predict the TONE Studio HBS-W120 will be a massive failure for LG, and it won't be long before it starts popping up on all the flash sale websites at bargain basement prices.

I've been using LG Tone since the first generation. It is truly a comfortable and very well designed device. With the updated edition giving the external speakers (without earbuds) DTS, the surround sound is amazing. In addition, you still have the retractable ear buds for when you want privacy or at the gym. Couldn't be better!!!

Disclaimer: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review of the product.
I was excited to find another pair of bluetooth headphones on the list of products to choose from for the Best Buy Tech Insider Network. I had tried a different style, and liked the style, but not the product, especially for use in the gym, and was hoping these would be better. They were not (at least for the gym). I didn't realize just how substantial the headphones/speakers were, and did not like how heavy and awkward they felt on my shoulders/around my neck even while just sitting on my bed trying them out. The earbud sound was great - the speaker sound was tinny. The bluetooth connection was phenomenal - I was able to walk all the way across my apartment from my phone and never once even had a blip in the connection (something that could not be said about the previous bluetooth headphones I'd received).

Overall these are a decent pair of headsets, but the speaker mode is iffy most of the time at best. They are a comfortable fit around the neck. The speakers are supposed to simulate surround sound with speakers on top and subs on the bottom. This speaker doesn’t offer just a hugely unique way of enjoying music, films, or games – but provides an experience that is far superior to that of a standard set of headphones. While it may work for some, for others not so much

My wife doesn't like to wear headphones or stick earphones into her ears, so I thought this might be a good option for her to use when she wants headphone functionality without having to put anything on her ears. She may use them occasionally, but unfortunately they don't work as well as I'd hoped.
The external speaker sound quality is just "ok" but not great. They can also still be heard by and annoy people around the listener (like me). The sound does sort of feel like it surrounds your head, but I guess you'd expect that from speakers hanging around your neck.
The two other negatives for me with these headphones are the delicate, retractable earphone wires and the fact that it's a bit pricey for what you get. The sound quality through the earphones is fine and the fact they are retractable is nice, but I worry about how long the wires will survive with use.
On the plus side, I could see using these headphones during football season while I'm active doing yard work or something. It's nice you can hear the audio, but also still hear what's going on around you. This might also be a good feature for someone riding a bicycle, too, where you still need to hear traffic around you for safety. If you're around others at home or in the office, though, you'll likely want to use the earphones. And if that's your primary use, then I think you'd do well to invest in a better set of dedicated earphones.
