Great speaker
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far almost everything you would want from a large wireless speaker. Surprisingly good bass, almost too good. Good bluetooth range, nice carry handle, buttons easy to use and understand. App for it is just fine if you are into the lighting options. No alexa or google built in, which is fine with me. Haven't had a chance to fully test the battery life. A bit pricey, but also a great speaker

Overall Great Speaker with 1 Con
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the Sony xg500 and it was a great speaker as well but was able to find this on a great deal. This speaker to me has better overall clarity and sound, especially as you push the volume up to louder levels. Great speaker overall! My only con is that it does take about 5 hours to charge, which for 10 hour battery life is quite slow.

Surprised by the size and sound! In a great way!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality and size of this speaker. I was expecting something smaller, but the size was great. Even though its bigger it looks classy/expensive. Not cheap and overly dramatic like most large speakers. As most others said the DJ mode on the app was a huge hit with the group. Well worth the money.

An Exceptional Bluetooth Speaker with a Silly Name
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Introducing the “LG XBOOM 360 Omnidirectional Sound Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker with Mood Lighting”! That’s a mouthful! Although I will admit it aptly describes the product. To be fair the model is also referred to as the “LG-RP4”. I’m old enough to remember LG was short for “Lucky-Goldstar”. They’ve since changed their name to just ‘LG’, with the moniker of “Life’s Good”. The company and its product have come a LONG way since the 1980’s. They are now a consumer product giant in the electronics industry. A force to be reckoned with. Nowadays if you buy an LG product, you probably made the decision partially on the fact that they make quality products. The Bluetooth portable speaker market is jam packed. There are so many different brands and designs out there – it is frustrating to know which to buy. People gravitate to known brands like LG, Samsung, Bose, JBL, and Sony. Chances are a speaker from any of these premier brands is going to be pretty good. When I first saw the XBOOM 360 I thought it would be an outdoor speaker, to keep by the pool or on the deck during parties. It features a nice sturdy carrying handle on the top, and a rubberized surface where the control buttons are. Indicating to me that this speaker is meant to go outdoors. While that is doable, be careful because this is not a waterproof design. The design does lend itself to parties, with the omnidirectional sound and the fancy LED light show. It also pumps out an amazing volume of sound. This speaker can get very loud without distorting. The volume isn’t just loud (120 watts rms), it’s very clear too. The bass isn’t overwhelming, and the mids and highs are detailed and sound good. The speaker really shines and comes alive when you turn up the volume, I found at very low levels the dynamic range isn’t as good. The audio can be input from three different sources: Bluetooth, USB or Auxiliary. You can also pair more than one Bluetooth device to the speaker at a time. You can also add a second XBOOM 360 speaker and pair them together. You won’t get stereo sound, but you will get synchronized output. I highly recommend downloading the User’s Manual from LG’s website to learn how to use all the features. The 360-degree omnidirectional sound is a great feature to have. No matter where you are in relation to the speaker, you get the same sound. Normal speakers are directional, they push the sound in one direction. If you walk around a normal speaker while it’s playing the sound level and clarity changes. So if you are playing music at a party, for instance, you set normal speakers back and point them towards the audience. With this this omnidirectional design you can set the speaker anywhere, in the center of a room, in the middle of an audience and everyone gets the same sound. Very cool! The cabinet design of the XBOOM 360 is a tower cylindrical shape. It’s unusual looking, but quite attractive. The materials are mostly plastic, but good quality. The entire surface is wrapped in a fabric-like material. I think it’s cloth, but it’s difficult to say because it is tight to the surface and doesn’t slide around. I have the burgundy-colored unit, and it looks great among other furniture in my living room. One thing to be aware of is that if the material is fabric, then it could get damaged, pulled or torn. But you’d need to be aggressive to damage it. Also be aware that the primary speaker is wide open pointing upwards with no protection. So, if you have little ones, or pets, there’s a possibility that they could reach in and damage the driver. The speaker weighs in at over 12 lbs., and not easy to tip over. It stands about 2 feet tall. Specs are on the website. I mentioned in the subject title that the name XBOOM was silly. The reason I say that is because it doesn’t to justice to the natural sound reproduced by this speaker. There are lots of Bluetooth speakers that overwhelm with bass. They thump and exaggerate the low end of the sound spectrum. This speaker doesn’t do that, it doesn’t ruin the music. Instead, the lows are tight, and sound natural and not boomy at all. The glass-fiber speaker is a high-quality driver that is paired with a titanium tweeter (hidden in the top section of the speaker). LG didn’t cheap out on the drivers, they are very nice. If sound quality alone was the only thing this speaker had to offer, I’d still give it a top rating, a ‘gold star’ (no pun intended). But there is much more than just excellent audio reproduction, there is a built-in light show! I thought at first this would be gimmicky, but I’ve grown to really like it. The colors emitted can be controlled with the app that pairs to this speaker. You can control the colors, and whether they pulsate, strobe, flash, fade or stay steady. I like just a steady light, making the speaker look like a lit lantern in the corner of the room. Speaking of the App, it does even more than control the lights. The App allows you to control the audio frequency profiles. There are presets you can choose from and pick your favorite or have complete control using a 5-band equalizer. A very nice touch. With this feature you can model the sound as you like and reduce the chance of distortion. Which, by the way, I never experienced with the speaker. The App is impressive and doesn’t appear to be an afterthought for the speaker (like I’ve seen from other manufacturers). Instead, the app is rich with features, stable and looks and works great. The App provides a wealth of information quickly, such as the amount of battery life remaining. What type of connection is being used (Bluetooth, USB, Aux). A volume control, a preset equalizer for using the speaker outdoors, along with a separate EQ function. The Mood Lighting feature in the app is where you control the colors and intensity of the built-in LEDS. There are presets provided, or you can customize your own. But wait, there’s more! The app features a “DJ” function! This is something I’ll never use, but some young people might get a kick out of it. You can choose from or create your own sound effects and imagine yourself a DJ. I won’t be using it… Finally, there is a power management feature you can toggle on/off. This is useful to conserve battery life when the speaker is not in use. Speaking of battery life, I found that battery life ranges from 8-10 hours. The app alerts you as the speaker runs low on battery. I think given the amount of volume this speaker pumps out, plus the Mood Lighting, 8 to 10 hours isn’t too bad. Recharging takes about 5 hours (from zero). I really like this speaker; I’d say in fact it is the best sounding Bluetooth speaker I’ve yet to own. It’s a quality product overall, well designed and if cared for will last many years of use. If I have to find some things wrong that I don’t like, it’s tough but I can offer a couple… The AC plug is an “L” shape and plugs in from the bottom of the speaker. That is somewhat annoying because you have to pick up and turn over the speaker every time you want to connect or disconnect the power. The fabric-like surface, while attractive, could get snagged, and damaged. Also, for whatever reason during the first few uses of the speaker the battery level never went above 90%, even though I left it plugged in for 24 hours. After a few recharges the percentage went to 100%. Also, there isn’t integration into an “intelligent home” network, nor does it have Siri, Alexa nor Google Assistant built-in (which is not a negative to me). With the couple of nitpicks aside, this is one heck of a good speaker. I recommend it highly.
