Bought this thing without hearing anything about it. Went into the store knowing which portable speaker I wanted until I saw these on an end cap. Looked at them, then tried finding them online but couldn't find anything about them. Took a chance and bought it. Couldn't be any happier with it.

Excellent Durability, Good (But Not Great) Sound

The AQ10 speaker is clearly all about durability. It feels well built and, like most LifeProof products, has lots of features designed to protect it from the elements. The sound quality is fine for a day at the beach, but many audiophiles will likely be disappointed in the details. PROS: This speaker can handle just about anything the casual user will throw at it. Water, sand, dust, drops, etc. It really does feel tough and well built. The dry-box for storing cards and keys is a nice touch. On this model, though, including an audio-in jack and a USB charging port inside the dry-box seems silly. The box is so small that only the tiniest devices (and very short cords) would fit. The ability to charge other devices is very convenient, eliminating the need to carry a battery pack for my phone. CONS: Rather than being able to charge the AQ10 via USB like many other devices, this has its own power adapter. That means at home it can't share a charger with my other stuff, and I've already got it takes up a dedicated spot in my power strip, and I have to take the provided adapter with me for travel if I want to be able to recharge the speaker. Not a deal-breaker, but annoying. The sound quality is good enough, but not great. At higher volume, there's definitely some noticeable distortion, and in general, this just didn't sound as clear as other speakers I've used. That said, the others were designed for indoor use, and didn't have the AQ10's durability. Overall, this seems like a good option to have around if you value convenience and durability and can live with just "good" sound quality.

Pros: Love the body of this speaker and the storage for credit cards and a very small cellphone. Cons: I was expecting this massive quality for the sound as advertise, what a disappointment, also is not loud enough, I bought the Flip 4 and is way better, this is going back to the store. Not worth it for the price.

      Hey Albi,

Thank you for your candid feedback regarding the AQUAPHONICS AQ10! We apologize that the sound quality seems slightly disappointing - this specific speaker was engineered with an audio loudness of 85dB, but if your unit doesn't seem to be matching up to this expectation, our friendly representatives would love to take a closer look. Please feel free to give them a call at 1-888-533-0735, and they'll launch an investigation right away!

This was a gift for my mother which in the past many of the speakers she has bought were not of the highest quality. She really enjoys this one and it's really durable. Quality is great but wish the controls we're specified in the manual

This is a great outside speaker when you are out doors. The speaker’s output goes to 94 decibels and I could hear it clearly when outside with the kids playing. I used it in the bathroom while the shower was running and there was not an issue with clarity either. I like that it is water proof and that I can leave it out on the porch and not have to worry about the dew or snow ruining the speaker if I leave it out over night. The speaker will turn off if it falls into the water, but it will float/bounce which is nice, but I would have liked it if the speaker would still play if it was in the water. The speaker is rated for 1 m in the water and is drop proof to 4 feet which is great since I will mainly use this speaker outside. I like the feel of the speaker, which makes it easy to grab when it is wet. The power, volume, stop, play and track buttons are large and easy to use. I can see myself not having to look at the buttons once I learn where they are placed because of the size and spacing between the different buttons. This will be nice since they are located at the top of the speaker. It has a hand dry box that flips open and closed. You can put smaller things in there like credit cards or keys, the larger model fits a smartphone. Bluetooth worked well. My phone easily connected to the speaker and you can have up to 8 different devices connect to the speaker. It was seamless when switching from one device to the next and connecting to the speaker. Another cool feature is that you can connect your phone to the speaker to charge your phone while music is playing. Very handy to have if you are not near an outlet and your phone is low. Battery life is rated at 13 hours. I did leave the speaker on for 12 hours straight and there was still some battery left. The Bluetooth speaker department one is a crowded one. This is a great speaker if you plan to use this outside and want a speaker that is waterproof and drop proof.

This is the best little speaker. I can bluetooth it to my phone in my kitchen and hear it all over my 2000 sq ft home. I was even able to hear it over my vacuum without turning it up. This the best purchase I've made for a speaker.

    Speaker sound OK-some quirks/defects

The speaker sounds good, and has a good volume range getting loud enough for outside noise. It has a good range on Bluetooth 70 feet or more in an office around walls for controls and volume adjustment. It is a good size, a little heavy but feels sturdy for outside/beach/park type use. It's approximately 3"x3"x9". There is a compartment on the bottom for storage/plugs, and the charger/additional plug are located on one end. The opposite end has the power/lock buttons. Controls are as follows: End-Power and lock out toggle (to lock controls from accidental touch) Other end-USB plug/charger for device/phone, DC Power charger for speaker, .8mm headphone jack audio in for device/phone play Top-Bluetooth sync, skip back, play/pause, volume up, volume down, skip forward, change input (from Bluetooth to either jack) Bottom-inside 4.7"x2"x0.5" closable storage compartment 2nd USB charger, 2nd .8mm headphone jack audio in for play. The speaker comes with the user manual and the DC plug for charging. Bluetooth sync worked easily. The lock/unlock function is a nice feature to avoid unwanted song/volume/etc. changes Issues I had with the speaker below. The first thing I noticed is the compartment is very small, not large enough for most phones to keep inside (4.7x2x0.5) and won't fit an iPhone 5s w/o case. Also if you use the plugs in the compartment you have to leave it open and either on it's side/upside down making access to the top controls difficult. It looks like this is to store a very small wallet/money clip or license/credit cards/cash and not a phone or ipod. The USB plugs are out only and used to charge, not play the device. So if you want to plug in your phone to charge you will have to also use the .8mm jack or Bluetooth in order to play (jack would be a problem, Bluetooth is fine) The 2nd USB plug inside the compartment did not work to charge my phone, I assume this is just a defect in the model I received. I was unable to test the .8mm jacks since I don't have one and one was not provided. I'll assume they work and the function toggle turned off the Bluetooth so that seems to confirm it. The outside USB charger works to charge but is not fast either with the speaker on battery or plugged in. It is probably just a little better than holding a charge while playing music or using your phone. My Pixel XL went from 66% to 72% in about 10-15 minutes while plugged in. The speaker has a front/back speaker but only one of mine worked. I thought initially it was a stereo issue based on the music I was playing but I tried multiple sources for audio and it still only played through the one speaker. Again I'll assume this is isolated to the unit I received and not the way it is supposed to work. (I will contact the manufacturer about this issue and see how it is supposed to function. I will add/comment to this review with any update.) Last issue is with the DC plug and only a minor compatibility issue and a suggestion for future models. The DC plug to charge the speaker is the small round type with a pin in the middle and not compatible with many other devices. It would be helpful if this was a micro-USB or USB-C, or Apple Lightning or other frequently used adapter type. The plug was provided so there's no issue using it, but it would be helpful if it was a type of plug/cord I already own in case of loss of damage. All in all an okay speaker for sound quality, the compartment should be larger to handle a smart phone. The multiple plugs for charge/play are a nice feature but the plugs inside the compartment seem awkward to use.

I purchased this Bluetooth Speaker to replace the old one in my work vehicle. I spend a lot of time on the road at work but my work vehicle does not have any type of Bluetooth or other adapter options and I didn't want to spend the money to replace the head unit. This speaker work great for listening to music, audio books and talk based programs. The microphone works pretty good for phone calls but I can't complain, most speakers of this type offer the option but it's not truly what they are designed for. However I can still carry on a phone conversation 95% of the time with no problem and it picks up great when I use the speech-to-text for replying to the text messages.

This speaker is everything it says expect for loudness. When I took the life proof speaker kayaking (sit it). It went through multiple splashes and still works perfect. Only problem I have with this speaker is the loudness.!! It could be a louder playing speaker and not just as loud as the boombot.

This Bluetooth Speaker is definitely high quality and built well. Starting with the sound quality it is not the best I have ever heard but for speakers in this price range it will fill a room with sound easily. I think that the best use for this speaker and where it will really shine is outdoors by a pool. The speaker is able to go in water and it floats. Using it on a boat or a day at the beach is perfect. Battery life is decent last all day and is able to charge a cellphone along with work as a speaker phone. The only negative things I found about the speaker were build quality. It has more plastic on it then I was expecting. It feels durable and it will hold up but the plastic feel to me could be better. It includes a dry box with a USB inside but I think it was poorly thought of. It is to small to fit much more than cash or cards. It might fit a small cellphone but any larger iPhone would not fit in this speaker. It is a nice inclusion but I was expecting more because of the way it is advertised.

The LifeProof - AQUAPHONICS AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker packs a surprising amount of sound into a small package! When I was given the opportunity to review this speaker, I wanted to get the larger AQ11 model. Those weren’t available, so I was sent the AQ11. I was thinking that only the larger model would give me the full (and loud!) sound I wanted. Boy, was I wrong! I first tried the speaker connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone 6, and used the Fox Sports Go app to listen to a Cleveland Indians game while outside, Initially, the volume of the AQ10 was not overwhelming. The sound was clear, but didn’t seem loud enough for outdoor use. Then…the game took a commercial break, and the sound came screaming out! Typical of TV sound for almost all of my 55 years – commercials are way louder then programs. I am now using the AQ10 connected via cable to my PC. The sound is rich and full, and capable of getting way louder than I expected (or can get away with at work). I am glad now that I got the AQ10, as the AQ11 weighs twice as much, and thus would be more hassle to carry around. The controls on top are easy to read and use, but they of course only work with a Bluetooth connected device. The battery seems to last around 12 hours on a charge, but I have been using it plugged in at work. One downside is that the charger is a proprietary, and requires an AC outlet. A USB charging solution would have been better for mobile use. I have not used the waterproof storage compartment yet, and really don’t see me using it in the future either. That certainly doesn’t bother me to have it though. The USB charging port is pretty much useless, as it shows it is only rated at .5A, which is not enough to charge an iPhone. Regardless of a few minor complaints, I am really happy with this speaker – I can see it easily going from my desk to our campsite this summer. That is when the storage space and waterproof design will probably be very welcome!
