Before getting the Aquaphonics AQ11, I tried out the AQ10. The AQ10 was a bit of letdown for me. I was disappointed with the sound quality on that one. However, the AQ11 delivers where the 10 fell short. The sound is a richer experience and the volume is much more impressive. Plus, besides the increased sound quality the overall durability of this one just seems better. They both promise to be water proof, dirt proof, snow proof, and drop proof but the AQ11 is bigger and heavier. If you're looking for a nice little portable bluetooth speaker, the AQ11 may not be for you. But if you're looking for a speaker that you can take outdoors (think camping trips, etc). then the AQ11 is perfect. You can't really beat LifeProof's durability and since the AQ11 also delivers on sound, this is a pretty great speaker. Please note one thing, when I say the sound quality is much better, this is in comparison to the AQ10. I have still heard better quality, but this gets the job done and I would absolutely recommend it.

Good Sound, Loud for Smaller patios/outdoors

Overall, this is a great speaker for the outdoors that is definitely rugged. The sound quality is good but definitely not the best out there. This speaker is loud, but it can get drowned out if there are many talking voices or a large outdoor area. Flexible functionality. Battery-life is pretty good, I haven't had to recharge or plug in during a night outside. This is a larger speaker, so it might be harder to carry from those with smaller hands. This could benefit from a more functional carrying handle. Excellent bump/drop resistance and the waterproofing seems good. Large dry compartment Design: Sleek, stylish design. The black version looks nice and classic. This will look great poolside, on the deck, or in the shower. It blends well in to any environment without looking like an eye-sore. There are multiple buttons on top for a variety of functions. The waterproofing has be great with splashes of water, and I even tossed it in the hot tub for a minute. No problem with floating. This is a quality durable product that can handle a beating. Great for outdoorsy people young to old. The dry compartment is large enough to hold enough important items like keys, credit cards, and even a large smartphone. You will likely need to remove key rings and card from wallets/purses to fir them in to the compartment. I would be careful putting smartphones in to this compartment (JUST in case the dry seal breaks for any reason). It also makes theft/loss of more things at once, much easier. Things to beware of, not at all flaws in the product itself. Function: Very simple and straight forward to use. Pairing is very simple and quick. Press the Pair button and boom it's good to go within 30seconds. Can play any sounds from your device. Also has call function to answer calls. I was able to clearly hear phone calls. On the other end, I was told the quality was good and mostly clear. Easy to control volume. So useful when you’re on the go. It’s awesome that it has a charge level indicator and a button lock feature. There is a USB charge port, so you can charge any device powered through USB! The dry compartment has its own USB and Aux port! Otherwise, the ports on the side have their own USB and Aux ports. Sound: Good. It gets loud, with good clarity at the highest levels and minimal distortion. I always say to note the quality of your sound files will effect the quality of sound output. This speaker performed well across all levels of sound with varying sound sources and file quality. There are other rugged speakers in this price range that offer better sound, but they are not as durable. This speaker is a good choice for those looking for a durable, rugged speaker that provides good loud sound. I would still compare other speakers to be sure this is the right fit. I did notice that the bass was lacking at higher levels and sometimes crowded vocals at lower levels. The highs and mids were mostly balanced well. Overall a good speaker, but I would not consider it the best in this category.

When I checked out the display model and sampled how loud the device can go, and I was quite pleased. I really did not buy this speaker for it's loud speaker. It is decent, but not the loudest I've heard for its price. I only got for its durability and waterproof, which I have had this for a few months now and definitely holds up. It is perfect for all of that, if that's what you're looking for. If not I am sure you can find one louder for the same price, but not as durable. Would recommend for anyone looking for a good speaker that is very durable.

Having been a bit disappointed with the AQ10 I was given a chance to try the AQ11 and must say I'm really pleased with it. It's a large speaker that is heavier than it looks, but isn't too heavy to lug around with other beach or pool supplies. It's also waterproof and includes a water-tight compartment for cord storage. The documentation that comes with it is not very descriptive, but it's fairly easy to use in spite of that. If you've ever paired a bluetooth device before you'll be able to pair this. As soon as you turn on the speaker (it comes with a decent charge already, and a plug for recharging) you simply move the little "lock" switch to "unlock" and it will be visible to any bluetooth device. You'll probably want to mess with the volume controls between your phone and the speaker to find the best sound mix. I found it easiest to just control the volume with my phone controls. It must be charged with it's own power supply, but the battery can last up to 15 hours (according to the manufacturer) and it can also charge other USB devices while playing. So in theory you can charge your phone while playing your phone through the speaker, which should help your phone battery last longer if it tends to drain faster while playing music like mine does. The sound is surprisingly good. It's crisp, clear and loud, though it can become distorted at higher volumes depending on how you have your volume controls set. I found the distortion at higher volumes to be less if I turned my phone volume down and the speaker volume up. Like any speaker this size the bass isn't the best, but it's better than I expected and adequate for an outdoor speaker of this type. The bluetooth range is fantastic. I placed this speaker at one end of my front yard and walked all the way to the back without ever losing the signal (200 yards at least). If you have a need for a speaker like this--a permanent home on a boat or in a beach house for instance, then this speaker will do the job well.

It's very easy to use and transport. My only complaint is that the compartment won't fit an iPhone 7 plus with a case on it. But it would fit w/o a case. Overall very pleased with this purchase!

I’ve tried a few different waterproof speaker offerings in the past, and for the most part while they’ve been pretty good when it comes to being water proof I’ve been somewhat less impressed by their sound quality and ease of use. This speaker, which is quite probably the most rugged example I’ve seen so far, has impressed me most by being a surprisingly good Bluetooth speaker first that just happens to also be built like the offspring of a tank and a submarine. As far as features go, this thing isn't going to impress anyone with an abundance of bells and whistles, going instead for minor quality of life details. You’ve got the standard features you’d expect: 15 hour estimated battery life, volume and playback controls, integrated speakerphone capabilities (which at this point seem to be standard for any Bluetooth device) and Bluetooth 4.2 compatibility are all there. But on top of that you have a pair of USB and 3.5mm inputs to allow you to forgo the Bluetooth connection entirely and charge your phone up from the massive battery within at the same time. One of the sets is even located inside the dry box, so that you can protect your phone from shocks or unexpected swims at the same time. The build quality is also very nice on this unit. Seams are tight and the seals around the dry box are just about as sturdy as anything I’ve seen, with a lock added for extra security. The buttons are all protected by thick rubber caps which help maintain the waterproofing and the sole moving part, the button lock switch on the side, is firm and very sturdy. The sound produced is just a little heavy on the bass tones using it inside, but taking it outside where low tones are more easily lost in ambient noise you get very nice audio response. Really, there are only a few issues I found with the speaker. The speakerphone functionality seemed fine with my phone but was annoyingly inconsistent with my other devices, for instance. I’m also a bit annoyed that the dry box is just a hair too small to let you fit the wall charger inside for travel and storage. But I’m more than willing to put up with them in exchange for having a single speaker that I can listen to music on at home and then throw in my backpack to take camping!

At first, I was leaning to a 4 star review, based on the sound quality. But then, I stepped back and thought about the total package offered. Once I did that, I was easily at a 5 star review. The sound quality is a 4, without any doubt. It is loud and can be improved based on being placed up against a flat surface like a wall, or a cooler if on a beach. The features of this is what pushes it into a 5+ star category. It isn't just a bluetooth speaker, or an MP3 music player with using a 3.5mm corded connection, it is also a speakerphone. You can take or make phone calls using this speaker, as well as listen to music, or even stream audio from a movie you might be streaming on your phone. I did this, watching a movie on a streaming site, playing the audio through the speaker, and this was the coolest thing I found with this device. Movies on phones are always a disappointment because of the sound, but not with this speaker. Phone calls are crisp and clear, and people were able to hear me speak clearly. There are multiple USB charging/interface ports, and 2 of the 3.5mm input jacks. A USB port, and a 3.5mm jack, are inside of the super secret and very cool waterproof box that is under the speaker. This secret spot is big enough for your phone (unless you have a plus sized phone with a rugged case), and maybe a thin wallet. It has a way to push the latch closed to give it a waterproof seal. The unit is big, but not overly heavy either. I've had big speakers that weigh a bunch, but don't sound any better than this. The buttons for bluetooth, play/pause, forward, back, etc. are very large and easy to press. The box and presentation is 100% cool - they wanted me to know I was buying something important and decent, and the packaging represented this fact very well The only real negative with this is that it uses a proprietary AC power charger. You won't be able to charge it with just any old cable or power supply, you'll need to bring this along if you will need to charge it while you are out and about. If I'm going to the beach for the day, no problem I won't need it because of the 15 hour battery life. If I'm going to be on vacation for a week, then I'd need to bring that AC power charger. All of this is missing the main point. The speaker is made by lifeproof, who is famous for making waterproof phone cases. That is the point. This is sand/water/snow resistant, and also drop resistant. i didn't try any of these conditions to see if it was true, but the mil-spec and IP rating were enough for me to realize I didn't need to go that route. If you want a decent speaker that is rated to survive the elements and conditions of being on travel, pool, beach, outside, etc, then this may be the right choice for you. If you want a speaker for a more audiophile sound, you might be a tad disappointed, albeit just a bit disappointed because the sound quality is good, just not audiophile great. I haven't had time to test the full 15 hour battery claim, but I've gotten hours without even an incremental change. I think it would be safe to thing 12-15 hours is possible, or even likely based on this initial limited testing.

I previously tested the AQ9 and was a little harsh in my review. The AQ9 was not up to par, I believe size had a lot to do with that. Welcome to something more tangible, bigger...with beefier sound. The sound is still a tad muddy but I realized that these speakers are meant to be rugged. You may give up clarity for the ability to go anywhere and do anything. The LifeProof - AQUAPHONICS AQ11 is much larger than the AQ9, a whole lot bigger. You get a waterproof., drop proof, do everything speaker. I did not test the ruggedness but Lifeproof has a history behind tough. The speaker sounds decent enough with better bass. Against my JBL Charge 3, the AQ11 did not sound quite as crisp. However, again the audio is decent. I prefer this design over the AQ9,which was not much of anything. Battery life is over the top - 13 whopping hours. I don't take my speakers out often, usually in the garage while working. Controls are easily accessible, certainly better than the JBL Charge 3. Features a USB Charging port and a hideaway waterproof box built into the belly. Other manufacturers are able to give you better sound with waterproofing. Granted...the others are not drop poof or submersible. If you live an active lifestyle the LifeProof - AQUAPHONICS AQ11 is for you!

The LifeProof - AQUAPHONICS AQ11 Portable Bluetooth Speaker packs a lot of sound into a relatively small package! I have previously tested the AQ10 model from LifeProof, so I had a good idea what to expect from its larger AQ11 sibling, and I wasn’t disappointed. The Bluetooth connection is easy, and paired quickly with my iPhone 7. The sound is richer and fuller than the AQ10, as would be expected from the larger speaker drivers. I am now using the AQ11 connected via cable to my PC. The sound is just as nice as via Bluetooth, and capable of getting way louder than I expected (or can get away with at work). The controls on top are easy to read and use, but they of course only work with a Bluetooth connected device. The battery seems to last at least 12 hours on a charge, but I have been using it plugged in at work. One downside is that the charger is a proprietary, and requires an AC outlet. A USB charging solution would have been better for mobile use. I have not used the waterproof storage compartment yet, but I do like the larger size compartment on this model. It looks like it would hold a lot more, including my iPhone if I removed it from its Otterbox. The USB charging port is twice as powerful as on the AQ10, showing a rating of 1 Amp, but it still is not enough to charge an iPhone 7. I have not tested the waterproof design, and don’t plan too, but it is sure nice to know that I don’t have to worry about a little rain hitting it. Also, I really prefer the black color on this AQ11 over the silver/green combo that I have on the AQ10. Regardless of a few minor complaints, I am really happy with this speaker, even more so than the AQ10 – I can see it easily going from my desk to our campsite this summer. That is when the storage space and waterproof design will probably be very welcome!
