My linksys ac1200 router is located on the floor directly below my PC. My phone picks up the 5ghz band no prob, so I know it's the adapter.

It maxed out at 12 mbps and could barely connect to my router even at about 10 feet away. It's better than nothing if your device isn't wi-fi capable with onboard equipment, but if you're connecting to 5G your range is about 5 feet before it becomes ineffective.

When I set up my gaming PC in my new apartment I got one of these to hook it up to the internet. After running multiple internet speed tests this thing was consistently giving me 1 mb per second download speed. ONE. just terrible! I bought a super long ethernet cable the next day and hooked it up to my PC. Now I am getting 500+mb per second. Don't buy this product!

The WUSB6300 adapter supports up to 300Mbps for the 2.4GHz network and up to 867Mbps for the 5GHz network. One possible reason is that the adapter was not properly installed or the driver needs to be updated.
