||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.To begin with, I will admit that before I experimented with range extenders as a means to expand my wireless network I did not do adequate research on how well these devices work for the purpose they serve. The Linksys range extender did boost the range of my network, but, like all range extenders, it cut the speed of my network significantly. If you just do light web browsing this would work well, but if you do things like heavy gaming or Steam In-Home Streaming, I would look into other options, such as having a wired network installed in your home.

The only problem I had was I tried to use my iPhone to find and establish a network with the extender. In the end I couldn’t find the extender after connecting it to my iPhone so I went the way of the online website to find and connect to my home network. At least there’s more then one way to connect!

But I really wanted a device that I could plug into a wired drop downstairs. This is truly a wireless extender; it doesn't connect to your wired network at all. So while it did improve the range, the speed just wasn't that great. For a few bucks more, I'd recommend the excellent Linksys AC1900 (EA6300) which offers 4 gigabit wired Ethernet ports and a whole lot of additional configuration options.

The range extender should be placed midway between your router and the area without Wi-Fi. Be sure you have at least 50% of your router’s Wi-Fi signal at that point on the device you will use for setup. However, we would understand if you will opt to choose the Linksys EA6300. This is a dual-band 802.11ac wireless router and you have the option to cascade this with your existing router as long as they are running on the same standard. Good Range Extender

Setup was a breeze - Just plugged it in, opened the URL on my phone browser, and in less than a minute setup was complete. I haven't fully tested its signal strength or range, but it fully serves the purpose for which I bought it.
