    Defective Product But Good Range

purchased this October 2015. September 2016 the 2.4 ghz dropped in speed from 150 mbps download to 28 mbps. The 5.0 ghz speed remained at 150 mbps download. Was within 1 year warranty period. Called customer service at Linksys, troubleshooted for 1 hour and 20 minutes with changing channels in the 2.4 connection, Rep was nice, stated that there is indeed a firmware problem. In the end they are replacing my product for free under warranty. 3-7 business days to to arrive and i have to pay to ship the defective product back to linksys. All in all, when i first used the product, the range really was awesome. But im not going to sacrifice range for speed. No way.

Its pretty frustrating that this rather pricey router does not work with my son's X Box. Despite trying all the suggested fixes, this router, which works beautifully with our televisions, lap tops and various smart phones, will not work with the X Box.

      Hi,

We regret to hear about your experience with the Linksys router. We understand your frustration and if you would allow us to assist you in connecting your Xbox to the router, we would be happy to help. It is possible that the Xbox ports are blocked. To confirm this, plug the Xbox straight to the modem and check if the Xbox is working if. If Xbox connection to the modem is okay, forward Xbox ports in the router. Here is an article that can assist you:

      Hi Allan,

We'd like to offer our assistance in getting the router to perform better. Some network traffic would slow down the speed. We suggest disabling the Media Prioritization especially if you have not prioritized any of the connected devices. Does this occur on wired or wireless connection? Or both?

This link will guide you on how to disable the Media Prioritization: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=c9851c482ead4d1692f19c5f5a7e5c41_KB.xml&pid=80&converted=0

I had bought this router as an upgrade to my old WRT54G, thinking that maybe the quality I got out of my WRT54G would be passed on to the 1900AC. Setup was easy, I had internet up and running in about 10 minutes, and had the basics of my personal network settings done in about 20-30 minutes, I do like the UI. However 2 days later the 1900AC stopped routing. link/activity LED's were active on the wired network but no internet available, WIFI was down and and I could not access the router config. Factory reset did not get me access to the router so I assumed it was something like the processor dying. Returned for a replacement. Found that our XBOX360 had problems on 802.11n with this router (many forums discussing this), there are work arounds for this, but it generally involves downgrading to an earlier 802.11 standard, I didn't pay $250 to not get full capability with my XBOX360. Also the WIFI started randomly started going down after 2 or 3 days, sometimes recovering on its own, other times requiring a reboot. I then tried to setup some port forwarding for my XBOX (just on the off chance it would help), and sometime along the way the WIFI stopped working and would not come back. Didn't bother with factory reset (other than to clear my info), I was done with this product. For $250 I should get a product that is ready to go. Even if they did intend for this to participate in the open source community the router should perform better than this out of the box. Both hardware and firmware seems to still need work. Only reason I give 2 stars is that I did like the range and the User interface.

    Awesome packaging, but...

I purchased this to replace the llinksys ac1900 that would randomly reboot once or twice a day. Very well packaged in sturdy cardboard with molded foam inserts. Setup was a breeze and the external antennas were easy to setup and adjust. However, once I loaded all my settings, rebooted router and was all set to go, I realized this router was Much worse than the $150 linksys. Random reboots would occur about every 15 mins depending on what was using the internet. After trying various settings and even a 3rd party firmware, I then tired of linksys and returned it to the store. Purchased a netgear 3200 night hawk with 6 external antennas and so far it is Awesome! Would recommend buying that one instead.

    Hasn't work out for me

I suspect there's a setup issue here, but I also have to say that I never had one when using the DLink DIR-825 router this replaces. Please note that, rather than update the settings for other devices around the house, I reset the default IP address of this unit from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. There is an easy way to do this in the GUI and no warning about so doing, so I went ahead and did this. My router is in my basement and there is connected via ethernet to a number of devices. Upstairs, I have an Engenius Range Extender, a DLink bridge, an Apple Airport Express, and a Logitech Squeezebox Touch, all of which have static IP addresses except the Apple device. Connected to the bridge are a SOtM server and an Olive Musica, the former of which requires ethernet and the latter of which prefers ethernet and both of which have static IP addresses. While the unit works flawlessly downstairs as a wired device, it has not worked reliably as a wireless device. My wife' s desktop has been able to join the 5ghz band that I reserve for her usage, but only my Android and IPhone 4 phones have been able to join the 2.4ghz band. None of the other wifi devices has connected in fact. (The Airport Express shows up on the network map and on iTunes, but it won't play a music file at the other end. The Squeezebox Touch once showed up on the network map, but it wouldn't see the server files on my desktop so it won't play music, either, and it won't download a firmware update from the web.) I assumed that these problems were due to differing settings between the Linksys and the DLink, so I reinstalled the DLink. There were no issues getting my devices to reconnect to the DLiink when it was again in the system. I did find some settings that differed, so I printed out screens of all the DLink GUI pages. I then reinstalled the Linksys and configured it as closely to the DLink as possible: (1) I limited the 2.4ghz band to B&G, chose a specific channel for it, and throttled back the security to mixed WPA/WP2. (2) I had set fixed DNS settings on the DLink, so added those to the Linksys. (3) I changed the DHCP range to a smaller number so that I would have no conflicts with my static IP devices. Those were about the only changes I made. Otherwise, everything appears to me to be the same. Unfortunately, despite these changes, I still can't get wireless devices with the fixed IP addresses to join in the fun. (I also had to reset the DNS addresses back to the default zeroes because I no longer could reach speedtest.org with the new DNS addresses.) I don't really have any bright ideas at this point. The troubleshooting portion of the GUI is pretty useless for this kind of issue, since the only thing it does is tell me that I can't ping these addresses. I may try to go about this a different way, such as reserving DNS addresses rather than using a fixed address at the device, but, if that doesn't work, I will return this and go back to the DLink. While I would love the promise of greater speed and range that this device offers, it has to its basic job first. I have not found useful support information yet, but will keep trying. If i resolve these issues, I will see if I can update this to give it a fair rating after fixing the issues. Otherwise, if I cannot fix things soon, this goes back to Best Buy.

    WRT1900AC Still has serious Issues

    Posted .

I purchased this router directly from the Linksys store. The router is very attractive, if a bit large. From the day I took it out of the box I began having problems with it locking up when an external drive was attached to the USB 3.0 Port. Over night it would loose the drive. When logging into the interface to try and get it to recognize the drive, the unit would lock up, and then spontaneously reboot. After about 3 days of this, the router rebooted, reset itself to factory defaults, and from that point onward would spontaneously reboot every 15 to 20 minutes. Linksys support is divided into three tiers, and they did try and help me quickly. The issue finally made its way to the engineering support team (Tier 3), who told me they have had many of these routers having this rebooting issue, and they are trying to capture the hardware involved, since the ones they have had returned have not been able to duplicate the problem. So a new 250.00 router that hasn't worked since it came out of the box, 4 days on the phone and in email with Linksys support as this wound its way up the tiers, Multiple reconfigurations, wipes, firmware reloads. A customer service department that has NO idea how to process the exchange for the WRT line, another 250 for advance ship of replacement, Linksys generated UPS return labels with the wrong address printed on them, a ton of frustration and wasted time, and another weekend waiting for the replacement. This has been a very expensive, and time consuming purchase. I would highly advise anyone looking at this router to wait a few weeks while their engineering team figures out what the issues are with this product. While I often sign on to beta test products, I have never had to pay 500.00 to do it without ever even being asked. I will update once the replacement arrives.

    Linksys (Belkin) WRT1900AC

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this router as it was a throw back to the popular WRT54 of old yonder years. Also Gigabit WAN, Gigabit LAN (x4 ports) USB 3, eSata. However it is still advertised on the Linksys website as being compatible with OpenWRT however this is false. They cooperated poorly at first and then end of June the final nail was put in the coffin and Linksys doesn't seem to be playing nice with the normal open source firmware devs anymore. I hear they are issuing refunds. I have an existing ASUS RT-N66RIf that has been perfect until it decided to quit working. I never had a need to look for an opensource firmware option as their UI provided all the advanced options I was looking for. I will be taking the Linksys back to the store tomorrow and exchanging for another model or place an order online if I can't find what I want. Good product, fast, easy to use... Doesn't offer features/services I need, do not like the GUI and placement of things. Also I was unaware Belkin bought Asus, had I known that I wouldn't have tried the thing out. I already would be taking it back but knowing Belkin owns them would make me take it back all over a second time if I could. Overall impressed but very let down.

Too much of a price tag for no actual gain

This would have been my seventh Linksys device. I own 6 of them now, 4 of which are in use, so I am no stranger to Linksys. This time, the first unit I acquired from the store had something wrong with it (according to Linksys help), so I took it back for an exchange. The second unit was easy to setup and seemed to work fine at first. It boosted my downstairs signal (over the 5Ghz channel) by 20%, and I got about a 10% increase in speed between my upstairs server and my downstairs laptop. However, I quickly discovered it was cutting my internet speed to downstairs devices to 50% of what I now have with my old Linksys dual band N router. Linksys could not help except to say I needed to buy range extenders or new adapters for every computer. Since I have 40 Mbps to my modem, and can get that speed over my current internal wired and wireless system without change, I did not see the need. Unless you have a really big house and want to go in for a bunch of range extenders, this is probably a waste of money. You can do as well or better for less cost, and if my case is typical, even though this router is backward compatible, it does not do much to improve your experience if you already have a dual band N system and don't want to buy a bunch of new adapters..

Unreliable wireless signal and difficult setup

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this to replace a NETGEAR WNDR3400 and was so excited to get this home and hook it up but it's not been a good experience so far. I'm going to do a factory reset tonight and redo the setup and if my problems aren't resolve I will be returning to Best Buy the following day. This router cost about $180 more than my old netgear router yet my wireless perfomance (range is great but bandwidth/speed) is unreliable and slightly worse. My PC is connected wirelessly and I had a great deal of problems getting it to connect and once I did the connection was very slow and sporadic. Same with my cell phone. The signal seemed to reach further and showed more bars than previously with the old router but if I got more than 30 feet away the bars stayed the same but the speed was slow or would not work at all. I have a smart TV that connected to my PC via DLNA and it worked fine with the old router but now the DLNA network button on my TV is grayed out which indicates there is no DLNA network. Everything worked fine with old router and the only thing that works fine with the new are the devices that are plugged in via LAN. Very frustrating and dissapointing. I really hope I can figure out why its behaving this way and can fix it. I will reavalute my review if that happens. But for now I'm very dissapointed.

For just over 90 days this router seemed to do very well. It appears I received a firmware update or two and everything Went down hill quickly! The router now just reboots at The worse possible time daily! I went from being impressed to really upset with useless and annoying so called customer service who seemed to take joy in the Fact I was only days past 90 days covered customer service!!! Now all she wanted to know what plan do I want? Talk to her once for $29.00 or much more for unlimited calls for five days! How the heck IM I suppose to know how long it will take to fix their bad updates?! Very feed up after spending way more time on this problem than it is worth. If you do get the "new and improved model" you better hope you don't have to talk to the woman I did! Gee I wonder why the firmware in the new model can't be used to fix the not so old 1900 AC???? What's with the ACS??

    Good performance but randomly reboots

Did lots of research and based on generally good reviews bought this highly overpriced unit. Have had the unit for a little over one year. Performance is good when it works. All started off OK but began random reboots a few months after purchase and has been getting worse. Just over the 1 yr warranty it now reboots 2-3 times a day. Linksys tech support could not fix and wanted to sell me a new one. I see quite a few current posts on the LinkSys blogs about this problem with no resolution identified. This is my 3rd (and last) linksys product. They all seem to last about a year before dying. I never buy the extended warranties but based on my experience with Linksys I bought 2yr GeekSquad coverage and intend to return the unit hopefully for a completely different brand.
