Product Model Description: Linksys EA7500 Next-Gen Max-Stream AC1900 MU (Multi-User)-MIMO (Multiple Input & Multiple Output) Dual-Band Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) Gigabit Router (1.9 Gbps) Intro: Based on the initial installation instructions from the quick-start sheet, I thought this would be a snap, as the guide appeared to be pretty cut & dried. As a precaution I downloaded & read the PDF manual to better prepare for setup & installation. Unfortunately, the installation did not proceed according to the instructions, AT ALL. Setup Nightmare: Warning!: If you have a modem/router or gateway, you'll likely need extra IT assistance. This router did not work with our DSL carrier-provided modem/router in accordance w/the Linksys instructions. And, yes, we knew to place our modem in a 'bridged' mode & to use our ISP/DSL connection settings on the router. But we were still forced to make multiple IT support calls to our DSL carrier, as we continued to suffer incessant router disconnects over several days. Other than the unit's generic flashing Linksys light, there was no diagnostic indicator as to WHY the connection was being repeatedly lost. Ruling Out Other Variables: Eventually, our DSL carrier even made an on-site service call & performed comprehensive diagnostic tests, but found no faults or errors w/our DSL line. (On background, U-verse is still not available on our particular street; we don't want a tacky satellite mounted on our roof; & we'll never again suffer w/our local cable provider, the abysmal Cox Communications.) Resolution: In the end, we performed yet another manual firmware update to the router & reset it to factory defaults. Though this didn't work in multiple previous attempts using the recommended auto-update feature & power cycle--the router, inexplicably, has worked flawlessly ever since the last reset several weeks ago. 2 More Cons: -Unfortunately, the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) would not work w/our newer networked HP printer, which required manually entering the long tedious password. -Belkin failed to include a packing slip in/on the box of their Linksys router. This is minor but basic. Some Pros: -Generally, the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Interface software & website are very good & easy to navigate. The ease w/which one can add other devices & view settings, etc., is a huge improvement over our older carrier-issued modem/router user interface. There are options, however, that only an IT expert can help with; so the avg. user likely would be lost w/those. -Range is very good on both bands (2.4GHz & 5GHz). -Stability: We have only 7 wireless devices connected at this moment, including PCs, printers, tablets, & cell phones, & all are receiving strong, reliable signals at good speed from the router. Future: We're looking forward to trying out the new Linksys EA9500-AC5400 Max-Stream Tri-Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (MU-MIMO) which we hope will incorporate some needed improvements over the EA7500.

I’ve been in the market for an AC router for a few months now & this fell onto my lap. I’m a techie - love the new stuff & like to put it up against what I’ll be replacing. One thing, I don’t do any gaming, so I can’t speak to it’s performance there. To sum it up, I just *can’t* replace my Asus RT-N66-U with this router. With this router, it has what you’d expect for a home-focused router. Parental Controls, QoS (set little Johnny’s XBOX to use less of your speeds that he can really pull), Port Forwarding, DMZ (gaming) and VLANs (security / isolation) Here’s a quick speed test note — with my ISP, using this router, the performance for a Wireless N MacBook Pro on the 5G band averages 76.15 Mbps down / 12.32 Mbps up. Flipping over to my Asus RT-66N-U also on 5G (keeping the laptop in the same spot, just switching networks), averages: 111.40Mbps down / 12.32Mbps up. Hmmm. I don’t like that. The same tests with AC devices (Nexus6 & Nexus9), the Linksys is roughly 10% slower. The Mobile App as well, not great. It’s confusing … use your Admin password to the router, or use some Linksys username/password you created at some point? My advise ... skip it and use the Web to manage it. This router lacks OpenVPN support so I can’t have it as my primary device - I’ve stopped opening up obscure ports to the world for when I want to access internal resources - when I can VPN-on-in and access them that way. If you want to add AC capabilities and extend your network with this device, maybe consider using it as an Access Point (set a static IP, turn off DHCP and link non-WAN ports) - go for it. If they roll out OpenVPN support further down the line - I’ll totally give it another shot as my primary router.

Worked ok but had trouble with one of my laptops

I generally upgrade my router every few years. I have the Linksys E4200 now which has been pretty good, but was hoping for a speed boost with MIMO, 802ac (I have 802n now), and longer range. I like Linksys in general so I was drawn to this model which has decent specs/reviews. Here's what I discovered after using this for a week. Pros: Easy to setup - the user interface is nice to look at but a little cumbersome to navigate. The network map is great - shows all the devices, what band they are on, and signal strength (it did frequently misclassify devices though). The direct LAN was very fast, and when close enough to the router I was getting 802ac on 5GHz at a decent speed. Cons: At first, many of our devices experienced periodic disconnects. I made some tweaks and they disappeared except for one Lenovo laptop - it would keep disconnecting every 5-10 min for no reason. Swapping in the old router instantly fixed this issue. Overall, I didn't see any real-world speed improvement (and I typically get 100+Mbps download), nor did I see any range improvement, even with the 3 antennae, beam-forming, etc. I reluctantly returned this model and went back to my old router. Things have been working fine. I did purchase a powerline network adapter to fix my range issue, and that has worked incredibly well.

      Hi, Jman807,

Thank you for sharing your feedback for the Linksys EA7500. The frequent disconnection that you have experienced with the router could be caused by some interference present in your location which we can address by assigning a fixed channel for your wireless network. But, we understand and respect your decision about returning the router. We just hope you'll give our devices another chance and we look forward to being of help to you in the future.

You can email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com if you have questions or if you need any Linksys assistance.

I was very happy with the product the first week, but turn out to be short lived. I use and this up as an access point. I am not using NAT, DNS, or other function of this router. I use the manual configuration and not the wizard. Set G/N on the 2.4 GHz and AC on the 5 GHz. Channel were on auto. Have about 8 device on wireless with about 4 active at any given time. Pros: - It has an intuitive interface, so I didn't even need to use the manual other than for the login and password. Of coarse, you have to have some basic understanding of how to configure the router. - Wireless security was setup with the highest encryption for home use thus ensure the average user is protected. I just change the SID, pass phrase, and enable access to configuration through wire. - AC speed was 866 Mb/sec about 35 ft away with direct line of sight using Lenovo T450s with Intel wireless Cons: - Really, the only con I have is that the router slows down and need to be restarted about once a week. This happen on the AC side of my old router and never on the G/N side. However, the first time this router slow down was on the G/N at 2.4 GHz. All the following was on the AC side. After the first 3 times, I just do a quick on/off as I walk by the router. Same issue after I updated to the latest firmware which is a minor version update.

I purchased this product after several reviews online for "best router 2017". This came up as the top router for a large home. Since we just moved into our 2550 sqft house, this seemed like the perfect fit and was less than $100. To it's credit, it streams very fast and has a pretty good range with 5 and 2.5 GHz. My major complaint is that the wifi will kick me or my wife or kid off at random times from our iPhones and iPads. I see that the wifi icon has been replaced with 3g or LTE, and when I open my iPhone in the wifi section it usually recognizes and reconnects (sometimes I have to manually connect and input the security password). Even my PC is sometimes interrupted, and it is connected via LAN. Interestingly enough my Firestick is solid and has yet to be disconnected. Very frustrating and it's getting old... quick. I spoke with Linksys customer service and all they had me do was a factory reset which did not help. It's a good overall product but the constant involuntary booting of the wifi connection may drive me to purchase a Netgear Nighthawk in a month or so.

My modem is Wi-Fi capable , but would cost me money to activate and $5.00 / month. Extra. decided to purchase Linksys system. un able to hook up thru their internet web site . contacted Linksys support. they needed computer link to access my computer. upon their access to my computer, they determined that my computer was not Wi-Fi compatible. This resulted in an over the internet remote setup which required a different device , such as an I pod or tablet, or cell phone , to activate the Linksys system download. . Upon completion, all was activated and connected to my devices so that I have Wi-Fi compatibility on my devices. Took 3 1/2 hrs.. Since this was done over the internet remotely, access to their site for this unit is not capable. Recommendation: MAYBE.

I purchased this router for a small office. I set up the guest network as well and when finished, everything was working, including the guest network. After about 1 month, the guest network stopped working. This model uses an internet login page for guest networks. You connect to the network in your wifi config then open a web page and should get redirected to the login page. Enter a password and voila, you have internet access. This stopped working about a week ago and now I cannot get it to work again. After reviewing other brands, I wish I purchased a NetGear Nighthawk. Their guest network is set up like the main wifi, set a password and authentication scheme (WPA2) and users connect the same way as the main wifi. No web page login screen.

I've had Linksys products - old ones that were bullet-proof and had to be retired due to technology passing them by. I've since moved to Netgear products and was interested in seeing what Linksys has done to improve what damage Cisco did to them. The setup of this router was fairly straight forward following the directions provided. The overall performance of this is about what I had with the Netgear products that didn't cost this much. As this has AC which my Netgear's don't support, I tried with my new laptop and saw no difference in speed connection; maybe my laptop doesn't support AC so I ordered a USB AC device and will test and report once it comes in. Unless you need the AC function, there are less expensive alternatives to this that work great. This product is acceptable, but unremarkable for the extra money over Netgear wireless routers with gigabit connections for four items. I recommend this with the caveats above. If you can get it on sale, that improves the rating.

I’m only giving 3 stars because I downloaded the app to set it up myself and it didn’t make it easier. I still had to contact linskys tech support cos my WiFi was freezing. I spoke with someone who spoke very bad English and he couldn’t help me. Nothing against the way he spoke cos I’m a foreigner too but he was bad.. later on my WiFi is working but the process was a nightmare. I don’t think downloading the app makes any sense to setup for the first time. You stills have to call them with the product information. Linksys also informed me that Best Buy advises me to buy the wrong product.. who knows.. I’m not tech shabby

I was sent this router free in exchange for my review of the product. After this review, it may be the last thing I get from them. I found the router to be very bulky, and even with the 3 antennas, it gives me no more range in my home than my old Linksys E2500. The speed was the same, too.I am no novice at setting up my routers manually, and usually have it done in minutes. This router took me almost an hour to get working like I wanted it to. It has two channels, one 2.4GHz, the other, 5 GHz. I have 3 computers sharing the network, and could only get them to run on the 2.4 channel. As far as comparing this $199.00 router to my old E2500 which cost me around $75, to me, it's not worth the money. I'll leave it hooked up, though. Don't wanna go thru any more plugging and unplugging. Sorry Linksys, not impressed. For the money, wouldn't recommend this product to a friend.

When our internet provider increased our speeds, the router that came with the upgrade was dropping our internet while we would be on our devices. Our previous splitter router was 8 years old so we got this to replace it and hoped it would help make sure we had good service. It is better but about once every other day, it seems to "forget" our password and we have to either enter our password again or go into settings on our devices, select the router name again, and have it connect again. Then we are good for another day or 2. Annoying for sure. That's the main reason for the 3 stars rather than 4 or 5. When that isn't an issue, it works well.

The router is great when I can stay connected to it. This router drops connections a lot. I stream TV/Netflix and get a lot of stopping to reconnect. I have the most trouble with my Lenovo laptop, even when I am in the same room as the router. I have tried reverting to the previous firmware but its no better. It would have been 2 stars but when its connected its a great router. There are a lot of complaints about dropped connections. Do your research and make an informed decision. I will probably be changing if the tech support teams can't fix the issue. LOL...it actually dropped my connection while I was writing this review :(

Stable... tbe first router I’ve ever had that plays nice with the printer. Set it and every time I Turn the printer on, I can print immediately without having to reset the printer/router relationship. It’s a little slower than I expected, so video uploads as in Skype or other video platforms lag a short distance from the router. So it’s okay, To do better I have double my router expense unfortunate but true...so this is fine for the money, for now

This is a much bigger router than I had from Linksys, not loving the larger size. While is states that it is much more powerful with max-stream, we aren't finding it any better than what we already had. Actually, my husband's computer keeps getting kicked out/off. My computer and my son's Xbox seem to be fine. I don't have a 4K TV but it states that it is ideal for that. Setup was not the easiest I've ever done and there is no documentation in the package. You will need to access it online or print from CD. I will probably hook up the old router to see if there are actually any noted differences.

However it lacks one important feature (to me) which I'm looking for. The router don't have the feature to lower the wireless signal transmission power. I get headache and feel unwell with strong wireless signal, so I would need to lower the transmission power.

I look at this on my phone and compare to the priority on my tablet and the assignments are different. So i dont think that is working properly. Should be the same assigned unit, regardless if i use my phone or tablet to change the assignment. Not real satisfied, lesson learned. Will probably try a different brand next time.

This is a WiFi router, It has a high speed CPU and MU-MIMO support so it can pass higher bandwidth traffic from your high speed ISP modem to your network. Out of the box this unit performs the WiFi link well. However in an attempt to make the router user interface more friendly to the average person they have lost the ability to easily make complex routing decisions. I would not recommend this for anything but a home WiFi extension box, I would totally avoid using it as the router section whenever possible..

Need to increase our wifi signal for better Netflix streaming. Was easy to hook up. It did put out a great signal, but we found that it did no better than our cable provided router so we returned it. We think it is a problem with the blu ray component not the signal. I wanted to upgrade routers as I started working from home, and this seemed like a good bet as it was the only thing in its price range to offer Mu-MIMO. Unfortunately, I never got the router to perform up to its specifications, and dealt with slow speeds until I decided to return it. I eventually upgraded to the WRT3200acm, and Best Buy price matched the Amazon price which was the same as the MAX-STREAM. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm happy with the WRT.

The slow speed that you experienced with your previous EA7500 Router was probably due to a misconfiguration problem or a corrupted firmware. The router was just ok. I did not get the expected range from it that I was anticipating. Had better success with Netgears Nighthawk series. Set up was simple enough. Everything connected without issue. The biggest disappointment was just its range. It did not do better than the AT&T supplied WiFi modem which is already mediocre. I would not recommend this router at this price point.
