Good router but setup is too "easy"

I bought this and three Velop AC2200 nodes to replace a EA8300 router I was using with a RE7000 extender. I wanted to keep the 4 hardwired ports and it has a stronger signal. Most things in the house still connect to the router even if they're closer to one of the nodes. See my review of the nodes for more on them. I've setup many Linksys routers through the years using the browser interface, but this is a different animal. You can access the browser interface after everything is setup (they hide it, see the FAQ section on Linksys website for instructions), but you must use a smartphone and the app to set it up first. I think one reason they do it is to force you to use a password other than admin. You can access half the routers in the country using the default password because few ever change it. That and to make setup "easy". The problem I faced is that I have a very weak cell phone signal if I'm not on my Microcell, which uses the internet. But you won't have internet until you get the router setup. Even though I had a Linksys account I was using with my old router, it wouldn't let me log into it, and I kept getting error messages when I tried setting up a new account because my cell signal was too weak and it would time out. If you have a similar situation, before you try to set it up, download the app before you disconnect your old router or go somewhere you have a good cell signal. Turn your phone on airplane mode, then turn back on Bluetooth and WIFI and use the option to connect your phone to the router using Bluetooth during setup in the app. You won't have that option if your phone has any kind of cell signal. You can then setup your Linksys account over the internet via Bluetooth and it will go smoothly. You may notice I've had this for a month; I waited to review it to make sure it would be reliable. So far, so good.

I have had good look with Linksys routers in the past so started investigating their mesh offerings when I decided I wanted to upgrade. I started with the AC2200 as the first step of creating a mesh system, knowing I can add other components as the funds become available. Using the Android app, the Linksys router was much easier to get up and running than any router I've had in the past. The best part for me is that it actually has such better range than the one it replaces that I'm not sure I need to add any more components.

I was surprised how easy the Linksys was to set up and complete my network. Also the signal strength is much stronger than my old Netgear. I will not need any remote units to cover dead spots. The speed tests came out great and I was completely pleased. I also love the remote app on my phone. Easy to adjust anything from any location. Very responsive. I would recommend this to anyone from beginner to expert.

I upgraded from a Linksys 1200 to the AC2200 Tri-Band. Reason for the upgrade was I have 100mps service coming into my house but some rooms only showed speeds of 15mps. The new router improved the issues in some of the rooms. It did not completely solve the issue so that every room has the 100mps speed but it helped increase speeds in all rooms. I have not added a booster to the system but that is an option if I wanted to get higher speeds in some areas. Installation was fairly easy and I had no issues setting the system up.

I'm very happy with the ease of installation and range of the router. It was unclear on the box, but I'll need to purchase the mesh features separately. So far I don't need them and the router is servicing all of the rooms in my 2000+ sf house. When the tech who was installing the new service, he said this is much better than the routers that they rent!

I have a pretty good internet speed, but with this router I’m actually getting faster internet than I’m paying for. I have about a dozen things hooked up to it and they are all running perfectly. Easy to set up and use. Downloaded the app on my phone. It tells me what’s hooked up to it and allows parental controls. I can block my kids from certain websites. A win for parents!! I’m so happy I bought this. Note: no matter how fast the internet, Hulu is still going to buffer (sad face).

I purchased 2 of these routers in hopes of using one as a parent and one as a child node. Come to find the router can only act as a parent and you can only add Velop nodes as a child. I returned the second purchase but I am still using the first unit and it has been a nice upgrade from my previous router. I was not getting the speed that my internet service provider was supplying until I upgraded to this router. The single router covers my 1200 square foot home well so I have not rushed to add any additional nodes at this time.

I purchased this router after returning a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 that just did not live up to performance or price! This Linksys connected easily and I now have WiFi through my entire house. I have three levels basement, main floor and upper and I am getting the range with no issues including 8 devices connected. The nighthawk would not even reach to the garage where as the Linksys was still giving me over 75 gbps in my back yard. I highly recommend getting this router you won’t regret it

Good router with a good range. I currently have about 20 devices connected to this router, including all my cameras and Wi-Fi switches, and this has not slowed the speeds a bit. The complaints I have about this router are: 1) You can only block 10 domains in this router 2) It does not show you the website traffic if you wanted to monitor the web traffic in your house.

I am online and believe the router is working as it should. My download and upload speeds are quite good though I hadn't had problems before and don't notice the difference as of yet in the increased speeds that are realized with this router. The real problem was setting it all up in the first place. You must download and use the linksys app to set it up after it is all plugged in. IF you have a great cell signal where you live, then you can download the Linksys app easily at home while setting up the router. But if you usually count on your wifi for your cell phone use due to living where there is not a strong signal, only a couple of bars or 3G only on your phone, then trying to download linksys app could be a problem because the reason you bought the router is because you can't get connected so there won't be wifi . . . until after you download the app and it downloads the updates/sets itself up etc. Also if you don't have a cell phone with data (rare but there are a few of them out there) then you'll need an ipad or some other option to download the app and get the router up and running. SO the bottom line is download the app somewhere else if you have a poor signal at home so you are ready once the router is plugged in and ready for you to let the app do its thing and set your router up with recent updates etc. Once running it hasn't been a problem at all BUT you'd think linksys could have designed a router that initially when first plugged in to the modem allows you then at that point to connect to the internet, even if it is ONLY to the linksys site, to let the new owner have the router then access the updates which could then allow the router to run normally after updates. I picked this up on sale for an extra $30 off the ~$170 price and had wondered about various other wifi 6 systems or other alternative mesh systems (this does support velox mesh it says but you would need to buy the additional extender or nodes I think they call them) but since I live in a small house with only two people online at a time, this seemed great for my needs for now. (Also I couldn't wait for other sales as I needed the router NOW to be able to get online as my older linksys N router somehow died while I was away on vacation) So far no other problems beyond the initial challenge of getting the app on my phone and activating the router through the phone app. (The light finally changed from purple to blue though it was a 3 hour process as the app download kept dropping the download partway through the process.)

I purchased the router for its speed plus extra ethernet and wifi functions, but wanted to be able to turn wifi off easily when not used. This router does that. Also impotant, were the built in dlna and lan printer capabilities. Last point, while mesh networks are powerful, they caused interference with other networks in my office building. This wifi router is not a mesh type, so interference with others in my area is substantially less. It's exactly the right router for my circumstances.
