A mesh system seemed like too much any new more powerful router seemed too expensive.. same as the mesh system. Although the only drawback is that it must be plugged into the wall and it does not have an extra outlet which some extenders do that I have found after my purchase, but I am happy.

Your device will not roll to it automatically. It's essentially another router tethered to your primary router with unique ssid. Set up is pretty easy and is done via a device on your existing network.

If your concern is regarding the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands, please make sure that the Cross Band feature of the Range Extender is set to Automatic. It will let the extender automatically choose the suitable path to transmit data between the device and wireless router or access point simultaneously. I used the SpotFinder in the Linksys setup, and it helped find the optimal placement for the extender. I have a TV in the basement on the opposite side of the house from my wifi router. This extender flawlessly streams 4k video and exceeds 100Mbps on SpeedTest to that TV.

Great wireless extender
