Router is a sturdy, seemingly well constructed device. It has 2 short flat antennas and must sit flat to operate. There are 4 gigabit LAN ports and 1 gigabit WAN port, and power switch. The body is a mesh design, and operates cool. There is an ac adapter for power and comes with one LAN cable. It is about the size of a large book. Set up was fairly simple as routers go. After power connection you can use an app for the basic quick set up. This was fairly easy and no issues there. The unit is wifi6 with 2.4 and 5GHz bands which is fairly standard. Additional mesh devices can be added for larger, more difficult areas, but for my home it was sufficient. I live in a 2 story home about 2000sq.ft. but with brick and metal garage door. I have had issues in the past with wifi door bells and exterior cameras. Sometimes accessing cameras near my house has been impossible. This is my 1st wifi6 unit. My data speed is 400/10 which is fairly fast and suitable for video and most things as long as I can get wifi. After setting the unit up, I was delighted to notice a vast improvement in coverage area and speed throughout the house and outside. My previous router was about 2 years old and fairly good. My video door bell seemed to work much better but its difficult as its mounted right beside the metal garage door. So far the increased coverage and speed has held up, and I find that outside, the unit transmits fairly far, and this is without a mesh accessory unit. The router is mounted in the middle of the house but downstairs as that is my only option. My upstairs computer normally gets about 160mps speed with the old router. Now I am getting 220 !

The Linksys Hydra AX3000 Mesh WiFi Router provides a very fast and reliable WiFi 6 connection! I’m so glad I got this. Setup was super easy. I had to download the Linksys app to my smartphone (iPhone) and from there it led me through the simple steps to get up and going. It took literally minutes. I was then able to monitor my network: what is the upload/download speed, which devices were on, setup a guest network, etc. They claim this router can cover 2000 sq and you can connect up to 50 modules to extend your WiFi mesh system. It is important to note: this is a router only. It is not a router/modem, so you will need to have a modem to use this and get your WiFi network going. This is dual band - 2.4 & 5.0 GHz. The “mesh” system is relatively new to me and it may be to you as well. I have Mesh extenders I was given - they are not Linksys and apparently that means I cannot use the modules with this router. At this point, the router brand should match the module brand. I did try to add the modules to this router but it wouldn’t work. The Linksys router alone works very well creating a far-reaching WiFi network. This router gives our house better coverage than my previous router with an extender! No drops, excellent streaming - I’m impressed!

I'm not really digging the fact that so many "performance" routers are taking shapes and color schemes to be gaudy and appeal folks that use them more as poor deco than a piece of equipment they need. The AX3000 comes as conservative and unobtrusive as the old school routers used to look. I'm not looking for an art piece, just a nice router than I can use and keep out of sight. Even though the Linksys AX3000 doesn't come with racing stripes or all kinds of RGBs, it's still performs. I combined it with my existing Velop mesh system to add a little more distance outside and now I'm getting full signal all around the 1 acre yard plus some. I don't have the AX3000 doing router duties because the majority of commercial firmware is extremely lacking, and Linksys is no exception. Sad thing is that one of Linksys's first routers sparked the homebrew firmware development. So, my older router running custom firmware still takes care of the duties of running my network. The price and performance is perfect and if I didn't need to micromanage my network like I do, I wouldn't regret getting another two of the AX3000 or the next model up to fulfill my mesh needs. I have a wired backhaul for my mesh, so I don't know how well the units would work wirelessly meshed.

      Hi,

This comes as a surprise since the Linksys Hydra 6 is specifically designed to deliver ultra-fast Wi-Fi 6 technology, ensuring a strong and consistent connection. Various factors, such as subscription speed, wireless obstructions, the number of connected devices, wireless interference, environmental conditions, and building materials, can also impact Wi-Fi speed.
Furthermore, we are eager to assist you by exploring alternative solutions or recommending a product better suited to your requirements. Just email us at [email protected] with your contact details and link to this review as our reference.

      Hi ClaytonB,

A Double Network Address Translation (NAT) scenario happens when a modem-router encounters an IP address conflict with Linksys routers or experiences a strict NAT setting, which is not ideal for online gaming. If you're using a modem/router combo, you can enable bridge mode on your ISP device to fix the issue. Feel free to let us know if you need help with any Linksys device by sending us an email at [email protected]. Our Escalation Engineers are more than glad to assist you from there.

Right out of the box was ready to go just had to connect to cable. Prior to adding this my wifi was intermittent and signal was not as strong. Out of 5 bars it would fluctuate between 3-4 for strength. As soon as I plugged the Linksys - AX3000 the strength has consistently maintained the full 5 bars. This was very much needed because my house alarm is hard wired as well as wifi and I wasnt confident that if the signal strength decreased my alarm would not detect an open window, door, glass breakage or carbon monoxide because all the sensors are WIFI dependant. Our house is just under 3000sf and we only had one router for the entire house. We knew we had to do something because our cable company came in and tested the system and said everything is working fine and provided an extender as part of our package. That didn't help until we added the AX3000 even though it has a coverage of up to 2000sf this goes beyond that. The speed with internet as well as streaming TV made a huge difference. Sometimes it took a few seconds for the show to unblur and now its almost instant when we pull up the show. Overall, I am extremely impressed with the ease of installation and set up. Linksys provides an instructions for immediate set up as well as additional instructions if you want to set up additional features for security and networking. The unit comes with all the cords needed to get you set up in no time. Another great feature of the AX3000 is the low power consumption. This is extremely important to me now when purchasing electronics because every house at least ours has seen an increase in electricity consumption. My utility bill always compares monthly usage and whenever we add another piece of electronics I see the increase in my electric bill month to month. So I definitely have started to factor in energy consumption when comparing products. Linksys has always been reliable and listens to consumer feedback and they definitely hit it out the park with the AX3000.

    Decent Router

The Linksys AX3000 Router is a decent router, but nothing mind blowing. Setup was pretty simple, and common for a modern router. You download an app on your phone and just follow all the prompts. I was online in just a few minutes. Performance is pretty good. I was able to get my full speed that I pay for and virtually no lag compared to connecting directly to my modem. Where I was a little underwhelmed was with the router's range. Linksys claims coverage up to 2000 square feet, and my house is about 2500 square feet, so admittedly, I am over the advertised coverage area. However, even when I was only a room away from the router, I noticed considerably slower speeds. This can potentially be solved by adding another router into the mix as a mesh extender, and I definitely appreciate that capability. However, as a single router I just couldn't recommend this for anything larger than a one bedroom apartment or small house. Anything larger and you would definitely need one or two more to set up a mesh network. In conclusion, this is a decent enough router with good performance, but lacking in range. I would recommend only if you have a small enough area. But I do appreciate the ability to add additional routers for larger areas.

The Linksys AX3000 Mesh Wi-Fi 6 router was exactly what I needed. Its functionality and speeds have made a noticeable upgrade to my home network. The WiFi 6 speeds have been great. My home is around 1800 sqft, and this router covers it all. I put the router in my living room towards the middle of my home. Everything connects quickly, and I've experienced no drops so far. The built in features are great too. There are parental controls that can be setup if you have children. The separate guest network helps with congestion, and keeps my personal files safe. The software updates are easily installed via the interface of the router. With the the downloadable app, you can pretty much control everything from anywhere. The ease and use of it adds to the appeal of this router. I have around 25 or so devices connected at my home, and they all are connected well. I use home lights and doorbells with it without any issues. I will most likely add another one so I can get a better signal in my garage and the back yard when I have guests. If you are looking for a decently priced WiFi 6 router, look no further than the AX3000.

I honestly believe as far back as when I started using a router, that it's always been a Linksys. That famous purplish blue and black theme. Always stylish and sleek, futuristic looking and stealthy. It's always been as simple as getting out of the box, plugging it in and you're set and ready to go! Unfortunately over time, tech items become outdated and slow in comparison to the capabilities of their newer models. Cable companies increase speeds and handling limits and before you know it you're top of the line router is no longer giving you the best bang for your buck. It's been a while since I had updated my router so for my needs and reasonable price point I chose this Ax3000. Out of the box it is very compact and takes up very little space. Unlike my last router, it only has 2 antennae instead of 4 and there shorter and wider, making it easier to put on a shelf under or below the tv and out of the way. This one also has a really simple app to walk you through setup and can help even the simplest non tech geek could have working in a jiffy. Everything is self explanatory. Hooked it up and haven't had any issue since. Testing the speeds compared to my older router weren't a huge difference, but I'll be looking at it during different times of the day to compare. Overall a nice router for a decent price. I'd recommend to others!

After buying the Linksys I found that it was super easy to split the frequencies through the Linksys smart WiFi website and now everything works perfectly in my home!

Linksys continues to put out quality products with an eye to the future. The Hydra 6 router gives you the flexibility to run as a parent in a mesh network or as a child node without another router calling the shots. Mesh networking helps ensure that all devices in your location are well covered with high speed WiFi. The Hydra 6 allows for either wired or wireless mesh networking. A wired environment will generally give higher speeds, but requires running an ethernet cable between the access points. Depending on your environment, this may add significant expense or time to your project. I tested the wired set up with a long cable running across the floor, but in the end decided that wireless was more appropriate in my house. Set up can be done from the app or a web browser on your PC. Using a browser requires that you log into the ‘setup’ network pre-configured on the router. Clicking on the image of a cell phone (not intuitive) takes you to the configuration pages. Once there, you can configure the router as needed. Once it’s set up as a child node, it will self configure with the master node. A full reset is required to bring it back to the standard mode and allow it to be configured as a master node itself. I tried to use the app, but was not as successful as I’d hoped. Using the web interface was more successful for me. Linksys also has phone which is open 24/7. I ended up calling at some odd times and always got through within 5 minutes. The reps were knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to configure it as a child node on an older, VELOP mesh network with the master being an older router that I had. I was hoping the child network would improve my throughput at the far edges of my house. My results improved about 20% over the base router alone. Both my master node and the Hydra 6 are WiFi 6. They are not 6E, which is OK as I don’t have any 6E devices. While this may be a longer term issue, I was still able to achieve > 200Mb/s download speeds using a speed test from ~30 feet away from the parent node (connected wirelessly). Prior to adding the Hydra 6, my speeds hovered around 100 Mb/s. Just for fun, I replaced my master node with the Hyra. I was able to regularly get > 600 Mb/s when standing ~15 feet away. I was able to get close to the same speed from the child node when it was wired to the main node. My internet service claims 1000 Mb/s with a wired connection, so 600 Mb/s is pretty impressive.

AX3000 Wifi 6 linksys router at the lower end of the hydra series. Not inexpensive for the specifications - TP link and ASUS are typically less or more likely to be on sale. Performance was fine on my 400 cable WAN but could not do full speed test on my 1000 Mbps fiber. I am not sure if this is a limitation of the firmware or CPU but my eero pro easily tests above 900 on the same circuit. Unit is a good size and has only 2 physical antennae - these are not removable. Range is limited in my tests but I was able to get great speeds 10 and 20 feet away on 5 GHz with iphone 12 speedtest (this was better than Eero Pro at same distance. App is fine and set up was easy. Options are limited and somewhat simple - the web app is similar and there is a bridge mode and simple quality of service. Quite limited compare with WRT routers. Extremely annoying password limitations - no "ss" or "ll" allowed?? also requires special character. I am really not sure why two consecutive letters are not allowed.
