    Solid High-End Router

Linksys has been on a roll the last couple of years with their router products. This year's EA9300 is no exception and appears to be a follow-up to last year's very successful EA9500 model. The differences between the two seem to point more towards the ethernet switch than most anything else. The EA9300 has a 4-port switch which seems a bit of a downgrade from the 8-port we saw in the EA9500. The reality, of course, is the EA9300 represents the more value minded, high end option. In order to come in at the lower price point some things needed to be given up and I can certainly excuse the drop of four ethernet ports to get there. The average or even high end consumer rarely needs more. The wireless performance is top notch. Range is fantastic and even bests my Netgear Orbi mesh wireless system which was an honest surprise. Overall throughput is also in line with what I saw with the EA9500. I am on gigabit internet and my wireless up/down via SpeedTest was ~400/500 on my MacBook Pro so I can't complain. Ethernet performance was spot on at ~910/940. My gaming PC which is downstairs and on the opposite side of the house saw speeds of ~210/190 which was an improvement over the Orbi which on average delivers ~160/160. Like I said, overall throughput and range was significantly improved over the Orbi mesh system. The GUI of the router itself is still one of the best in the business. Everything is easy to find and operates smoothly. Easily exceeds the 'classic' style that Netgear is still using. My only real complaint with the EA9300 is the price. With sales often placing it's bigger brother, EA9500, within spitting distance it is hard to recommend the EA9300 over the EA9500. If the price gap is >$50 I would say go for the EA9300 unless, of course, you need the 8-port switch. Then all bets are off anyways. Overall, great wireless router. It offers the range and throughput expected for a high-end router. It has a clean user interface and with the current firmware offers good stability. Recommended.

One of the best!! This router is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Router: Router is sized pretty big with fancy antennas. Contains a screen that displays connection-related symbols. Initial Setup: By far, the most easiest setup I have ever seen. I had it installed and fully functional in less than 10 minutes. Just login to the network address and a wizard helps you setup the router with ease. Setting up Guest network is optional. There is an option to limit the number of guest device connections. (upto 5) Performance: This Linksys router replaced my cable modem/ router combo that was having issues with heavy device usage. My home is close to 1200 square feet. Currently this new router is connected to the modem (i have disabled the router function in the modem) and is connected to close to 8 devices (ipad, mobiles, smart TV, XBOX One, Amazon Echo). I have a 75MBPS speed on my comcast internet. I ran a speed test on my mobile and I see 118MBPS download and 7MBPS upload. Internet on every wifi device functions seamlessly. Smart TV is able to run Netflix, youtube without buffering. Downloads and upload are super fast. Mindblowing speeds on all devices. For a 1200 sq.ft house, this router seems to be working really good. Downside: Range!! When I step outside the house to my backyard, the signal seems to drop off. Given the price point, this router could have had a better range. I have seen reviews about this router that says the range is pretty good, but this is my personal experience that I have shared. To summarize, this is a great router for someone who struggles with speed having multiple devices and is willing to afford this price range. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

First off this router looks nice being all black it goes with my home setup. Build quality looks good. This router is easy to setup, just plug and play. It is Tri-Band MU-MIMO. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports and 4 Ethernet ports on the back. Love the fact that it works with the Linksys app so I can easily access my network. This thing is a beast, I have almost 20 devices connected and don't notice any lag or slowing down. Overall I would recommend this router.

I currently have ATT internet access which is 25mbps and runs on a cat 5 line or DSL. I have never had any bandwidth problems or speed issues. I have a Marantz receiver, an Arlo camera hub with 4 cameras, a Philips Hue hub and my Directv receiver that are all hardwired. Wifi I have a Nest thermostat, 3 Nest smoke detectors 1 Nest Cam, 1 Canary cam, 1 ROKU, 2 computers, 1 tablet, an LG smart TV, and 2 phones. With all of these devices I never had any lag or connectivity issues or so I thought. When I received my Linksys EA9300 I had to hook up from my ATT modem (Linksys has no cat 5 wire) so ran the Linksys from my ATT and plugged all my hardwire devices into the Linksys, and re-entered the new wifi password into all my devices. What I thought was good service wasn't really that good before. With this router, I get a full signal at the neighbors house and almost all the way down the street. I also noticed that when I play Spotify through my Marantz, the album art never showed up on my TV and now it does. I always thought it was just the Marantz but now I know it was my crumby ATT issued router. I also like that you can see exactly which devices are on your network. A big win is that with ATT routers, the password is this enormously long password that takes forever to enter when guests come over but since using this one, you can modify the router name and password. Take it from me, even if you are using a cable company provided modem this thing really opens up your bandwidth and you will realize immediately faster and greater signals. Your wifi cameras are clearer, album art comes through, and you can be on your network from hundreds of feet away even through walls. If you don't think you need this, you are wrong.

I bought this to replace the basic equipment that my internet service provider provided. I would not stay connected to the internet. Spent an hour online with Linksys customer service and they determined it was defective. Exchanged it for the same thing. Same issue. So I exchanged it for a different brand. Obviously this router works for many people and there must have been some reason why it didn't work for me. It's probably a fine product. My biggest complaint, however, is this - when we installed it, we changed the network name and created our own password. If you have to reset your router as we did, everything resets to default. Not a big deal if you never have to reset the router, but we had to reset it a few times in the first couple of days. So, I just returned it.

      Hi N8Dog74,

It's clearly unacceptable that even the replacement item had the same issue. We truly understand your decision of exchanging the EA9300 with a different brand, however, we'd appreciate if you will email us your phone number at [email protected] so we can have one of our Escalation Engineers conduct further investigation to avoid this from happening again. The Max-Stream™ AC4000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router is a potent package on paper but is it really that much better than say something a step down from it like the AC3200? I'm not quite sure it is for most people... Having used both of these routers there really wasn't a noticeable difference between them. Looking at the AC4000 though is offers a ton of great features many of which the normal Joe wouldn't even touch but for the skilled these are great for not only securing home WIFI but also improving it as well. Out of the box the router is fairly easy to setup with all the basic functions they all come with these days. One that seemed to trick up was the priority mode. You can set certain devices to be have priority over your bandwidth but what you dont realize is that the speeds can be controlled too. When trying to trouble shoot why over speeds were capped at 47.8 MB/s we found this was the reason and changed it to 100 MB/s which is what we typically receive. This solved all of our issues with the router other than the seemingly poor range! Speeds dont drop considerably with the loss of bars but it is noticeable and when a certain point is reached it will drop (Outside the house or so), I never had this issue with the AC3200 router we used before. The range inside the house especially seemed but more consistent with this other router which was located in the same position. I dont know what could cause this but its something to note. Now the AC4000 and AC3200 share MANY features which make them very close competitors. If you arent a hard core gamer or dont need the super speeds the 4000 can provide the 3200 is more than adequate for 75%+ of households!

Blazing consistent speed throughtout my lath and plaster house and my yards.   From unboxing to setup, done in about 15 minutes. I simply reused my old router's wifi SSID and password and my devices connected without any issues. The Linksys router allowed me to streamline my SSID and password to just one for all three bands. I was a bit skeptical of doing that being unsure if my devices would pick the best band to connect to. I was wrong the quad processor of the router handles that for you giving each device the appropriate band given their distance and surrounding environment to ensure they have the best possible connection all without you ever knowing or being troubled. The app is great but could use a bit more polish in graphical appearance as I prefer the Netgear Genie software as it has a nicer graphical appearance as well as better feature set, at least to me. I do like that I can use the Linksys app whether home or not and on all my android, apple and windows devices. The great thing is that the router seems to learn and after a day or two, my devices seemed to not only have the best band assigned to them but that the speeds were super consistent no matter how far I was from the router. I have yet to experience any dropped connections in my 3000 square foot house. Mind you my house is filled with rooms with doors (not an open floor plan) and is built with lath and plaster so lots of wire meshed walls. Indeed all my 20-26 devices connect at their fastest band and speeds with no effort on my part. I have IP cameras direct to my NVR, And a POE camera in my garage connected indirectly to my NVR via a powerline adapter in my unattached 60 year old brick garage. Then I have some low priced cameras connected to my network via my electrical outlets...like a powerline setup but I guess powerline is built into the camera. I have 3 gaming systems, multiple wireless smart TVs, a 10 port gigabit Ethernet switch connected to the Linksys via a 50 foot Ethernet cable with more devices connected to that switch. 3 Roku devices all with great connections and speed. Best yet is an old netgear R7500 router hooked up to a port on the Linksys to allow me to continue to use my old non WiFi and non AirPrint printers as AirPrint printers through the Netgear genie app and the Netgear print USB utility. I thought it would not work but Linksys online website had a complete walk through in how to hook up a secondary router (lan to lan) to theirs with an included video. It worked and now I have additional ports with full access to the software from Netgear that allowed me to use my old non wifi and non air printers with my apple devices...that was shocking. I knew the lan to lan would work but I did not think the printers would be accessible but they are. Mind you this is a 20 plus year old HP 5P printer with old fashion parallel and centronics connections. We have multiple streaming services, Pandora, Netflix, Vudu, Flixster, Hulu, Amazon and so on with 8 residents of the house aged 7 to 82 with tons of mobile devices accessing these streaming services throughout the day and so far no dropped connections or significant speed degradation. We LOVE the router, love the quad processor and mostly love having to do nothing but enjoy our devices, our services and the connections. I have cable with 300/20 speeds.

    It does the job

I have used a few Linksys routers, it's a good brand to use. The EA9300 is a good router. It has the capability to have two USB connections. The best way to get the best performance out of it is to have a wired connection which is the best way for strongest Wi-Fi especially if your a gamer. It is a decent size length wise so you will need a good place to put it. The performance was right on point with any other Linksys routers I have used, I didn't notice a lag or loss in connection and I have about 8-10 Wi-Fi devices connected at once plus using one of the USB ports for a wired connection. I am pleased with the performance, I didn't give it 4 or 5 stars only because I didn't see a noticeable difference from other Linksys routers. I was looking for it for extreme performance and connectivity and in the few days using it I just didn't see it. It does work and easily set up, it does the job. I would recommend if you have an old router or none at all than this one is good, but if you have a recent router and you have no issues with it no need to upgrade.

I swapped out my other Linksys router with this Max-Stream and I am very happy no doubt! With the Quad core & high speeds of up to 4Gbps, (especially when I hooked up in conjunction) with my new Max-Stream Extender, I was able to have a house full of guests with multiple devices (of course....lol) being used at the same time. ie: ipads, multiple phones, TV, desktop and I think a couple of laptops and even someone was using the games as well and I had basically zero lag time/buffer and heard zero complaints from my guests as well. It's easy to create (and share) a separate password protected network for all of your guests (I believe up to 50) pretty impressive for me as a "Home Network". You can also easily prioritize any of your devices to have the quickest speeds within your network which I find super handy. Parental control is also available so if you have kids (or ?) on your network that you need to limit. Also, with the Linksys App, you can control your entire network from anywhere with your mobile. Undoubtedly new tech advances so darn quick these days and we all really need to keep up with the pace the best we can. I can say personally that as I have described above, I am really satisfied with this modem and the expansion features it provides for sure!

Don't know what I was doing wrong with the setup, but after trying 2 units with the same results I gave in and returned it going to a different brand that worked flawlessly out of the box. My issues were that I have Blast Pro 400 from Comcast. With this router no matter what settings I used I only could get 3MB downloads even with a hard wire connection. Tried various settings, updating firmware, factory resetting... After reading the Linksys forums, it seems that not only is this product affected but the EA9500 as well.

I have a 1Gbps Internet connection so I'm always on the lookout for routers that can help me take full advantage of every "bit" of it (see what I did there?) even with my wireless devices. I have many routers already ranging from those running OpenWRT to the EA9300's bigger brother, the EA9500 on stock They each serve their niche and the EA9300 is no exception. The interface on the EA9300 is similar to Linksys's other current offerings and includes the ability, once setup, to be managed remotely online through the Linksys SmarWiFi cloud system using a web page or the corresponding app for IOS or Android. This can be very convenient if you have a network and attached devices that frequently change or need to be actively managed, including controlling guest access, etc. In raw speed the EA9300 didn't disappoint and I was consistently pushing and pulling 900+ Mbps consistently through any wired or WiFi device capable of doing so. I was also pretty happy with the transfer speed of an attached USB 128GB SSD. Using the EA9300 to host a Windows-esque SMB/CIFS share, I could transfer large multi-GB.ISO files @ 300Mbits/s sustained. Not enterprise-class but adequate for periodic transfers of files I want to keep localized and centralized. Overall a nice router with a slightly smaller footprint than my EA9500. In my case, just because I have multiple routers and the luxury of doing so, I have decided to dedicate the EA9300 to its own network segment used for guest devices and computers I work on (I'm a computer tech) that may be infected. For me it serves as a nice logical division. But if I didn't have the geeky luxury of multiple routers and truly distinct networks the EA9300 is more affordable and could easily handle being my main router of a busy network with lots of wired and wireless devices. The band-steering function helps to make sure the devices are balanced across frequency bands for optimal use without you needing to personally micromanage each connection.

Splurged on this router after having a basic router for many years. It worked for a short time, then completely quit broadcasting to over 30 devices. Linksys support not a help. 2+ hours on tech support calls with no results. Save your money and spent it instead on some other router—from another manufacture. Linksys makes some of the best routers I have used many of them. I replaced my current Linksys AC router with this one. I believe that where this router shines most compared to others is an extremely fast 2.4ghz band. A lot of the devices my house uses are not able to connect to the 5ghz yet and my old router lacked for these devices. The 5ghz is also lightning fast but I didn't see as big of improvements here. It is very powerful and able to give me fast speeds throughout my entire house. It is also an awesome router for anyone who has a lot of devices that need to be connected to the Wi-Fi. Currently I have multiple smart TVs, game systems, cell phones and laptops connected to it. The setup out of the box was a little time consuming but it was self explanatory and not hard to set up. The overall build quality is great. It has a large foot print but it is also built very well with 6 antennas for the best coverage and strength.

This router replaced a TP-LINK AC1750 that was fine till my internet load increased with grandchildren and relatives all needing to join the network. The TP link would just drop your Line and it could not handle the load. I got fed up with having to reset the cable modem and router multiple times and I had more to do with 25 guest than to keep resetting the modem. I purchased the from Best Buy and picked it up that evening for the same price that I would waited for online retailer . This thing is a beast an handles everything I throw at it. No one has been kicked, they all run top speed and frees me up from having to mess with the network. I would buy this again in a second.

I've been using Apple routers since 2009 and have had no issues with them. For the past 3 years, I was using the Airport Extreme AC router and it has been wonderful. Technology changes very quickly, so I know that in 2017, my router was already outdated. When I saw that I could try out the Linksys router, I was very excited. I read about all the features it had and what the app had to offer. All of it was much better then my AirPort. I've noticed my devices have been keeping their WiFi signal much more reliably and speeds have increased. Signal strength around my home seems to have increased also as I'm getting service farther away from my router then before. The only thing I would like to see implemented is the bandwidth of each device connected to my WiFi. I know some Linksys routers offer the feature, and this one being a higher-end model, should have it. Hopefully in an update.

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web interface and the smart phone app make it really easy to configure and manage the router settings. The web interface offers more control over the router but the smart phone app is a convenient way to manage most of the settings. I have a small condo so range isn’t an issue. I don’t want devices hopping back and forth so I use one network name for older 2.4 GHz devices and a different network name for newer devices that can take advantage of faster speeds on 5 GHz. This is easy to configure during the initial setup but you also have the option of using one network name for both bands if you choose. The router defaults to 5 GHz Smart Connect band steering that uses one network name for both the 5 GHz1 and 5 GHz2 radios to balance the load but the feature can be turned off. I prefer leaving it off so this lets me set three network names, one for each radio. I’ve set one 5 GHz radio as 802.11ac only for my newer faster devices. The other 5 GHz radio is used by my older 802.11n devices but I left the network mode set to Mixed instead of “n” only. You have quite a bit of control if you choose but you can use all the defaults to be up and running in a couple minutes or less. You can then make changes to the settings as you learn about each of the features. I installed the router on 5/3 and immediately noticed my phone experienced slow network (wifi) speeds. The phone (Android 6.0.1) is the only device experiencing this problem. This device did not experience this issue with the Linksys WRT3200ACM router I’ve used since October of 2016. Convinced this is due to a firmware bug I contacted Linksys on 5/9. We reviewed the router settings and spent a long time troubleshooting the issue connecting my tablet and my phone to each of the three radios (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz1 and 5GHz2) doing speed tests on each using speedtest(dot)net to compare the results. I also sent them the sysinfo log from the router and the issue has been escalated to their engineering team. Near the end of our troubleshooting on the 9th the router stopped accepting connections on the 5 GHz 1 radio. There is no error, just nothing can connect to 5 GHz1 but connects fine to 5 GHz2. They have followed up with me today (10th) and have decided to replace the hardware. Despite the two issues I have encountered (slow connection speeds with one device followed by no devices connecting to the 5 GHz1 radio) I really like the router. One of my Chromecast audio units (living room) is installed in a spot that received weak signal strength with the WRT3200ACM router and I was going to move the unit to get better signal. Once I swapped that router with this EA9300 the Chomecast unit is working just fine in the original location. The old router provided good coverage for my condo but I can tell the new router provides a stronger signal. Most people probably won’t experience the slow connection issue I encountered on one device but I know it isn’t that device, it is the router. There is also the issue with the one 5 GHz radio no longer letting devices connect. As much as I like the router I just can’t rate it more than three stars given the current situation. I’ll update the review with a comment once I receive the replacement unit in a day or two. I’ll also post an update if a future firmware update corrects the slow connection problem with the one device.

I have had VPN connection issues with the latest nighthawk routers. This model was no different. Returned and got a Linksys.

      Hi, Scott,

Setting up VPN to the EA9300 model should never be a challenge since this router is just a passthrough device. We regret to hear that the product is no longer with you as we could have you further assisted by one of our Escalation Engineers.

Should you encounter any challenge with your current Linksys router, don't hesitate to drop us an email at [email protected].

      Best regards,

      Jay

It worked good until the warranty ran out. The WiFi signal got really week and I tried manually changing to every Chanel with non of them working the only way I could stay connected was to stand over the top of the router. The wired connection still works but that’s not what I bout it for.
