The first thing that hits you about this router is that it is an absolute beast in size. For a router it is huge. The power brick is pretty significant considering it is for a router. When you feel it all you really feel like this is a premium product. Getting into the design of the router, the AX6000 still retains one of Linksys’ glaring faults, fixed antennas. If any of these antennae brake, you are “SOL”. Unlike routers from other companies which are detachable and replaceable, Linksys really puts you in a tough position, especially considering that they are not made of the strongest plastic material. One of the other glaring downsides of the design is the lack of lights on the front. Other than your standard 10/100 or Gigabit LAN light next to the actual RJ45 plug, there is no indicator on the FRONT of the router to indicate connectivity of any sort. No Wi-Fi light, no LAN lights, and no WAN light, just the power light. I know that routers are a set-it-and-forget-it kind of thing, but lights like these really assist in the occasional diagnostic. If these lights are important to you, please keep this in mind. Setting up the router is a breeze. Like all recent Linksys routers, there is an emphasis on the smart setup. I did everything through the Linksys App which made it super easy and quick. Heck, I didn’t even need the admin password to get into the router settings, I was able to create a new Linksys account and get it working – after that I could reset the router password for non-app/smart (i.e. 192.168.1.1) access. I suppose this is a slight vulnerability, but I think this is just limited to the initial setup of the router. Once you setup the router to your liking, you can’t utilize the account setup feature again, unless you hard-reset the router to factory default. Like most recent Linksys routers, the AX6000 will integrate with the VELOP line of mesh products. I don’t have any, but the option is there. Regarding performance, this router really improves in many places. Compared to my old AC1200+ Linksys router, the USB3 port on the AX6000 is able to pull 45 MBps over the network vs the 30 MBps I was only able to get with AC1200+ model. LAN is still 1 GBps and my wired network in the house is 1 GBps, so I don’t see any difference there. However where this router really shines if in the Wifi-6 capabilities. 5 GHz frequency is quite limited in its range, but if you do have Wifi-6 (i.e. Wifi-AX) devices you will be able to get much faster and reliable speeds at distance. Even if you don’t have Wifi-AX you will find that your transfers will be faster. My old Surface Pro 3 is Wifi-AC. When doing network transfers at distance, I would routinely get 10-12 MBps. With the AX6000 I can get 15-16 MBps. But with Wifi-AX device? I’m able to get a crazy 30 MBps., in the same exact location! WOW. It is too bad all my devices aren’t Wifi-AX or else I’d ditch the other access point in my house for improved speeds – the AX6000 makes that device obsolete! Wow. Do I recommend the AX6000? Really depends. Do you feel that Wifi-AC is limiting your network’s Wifi potential and want to upgrade everything to Wifi-AX (INCLUDING your devices)? Of course, this AX6000 will really beef up your wifi network, including the integration with VELOP devices. Definitely a recommendation from me. However, are you looking to keep your same old Wifi-AC devices and looking for better coverage and speed with those devices? I wouldn’t recommend the AX6000. You would be better off investing in a second access point (i.e. a cheap Wifi-AC router fashioned into an access point by turning off DHCP and bridging the LAN and Wifi networks) that is connected to the main router by a wired connection (be it ethernet, coax or powerline).

Really disappointed with Linksys. Don't waste your time/money with this one unless you're willing to experiment with 3 of these in a mesh mode. A single MR9600 has poor range distance, speed, and no usb storage support. Poor speeds even when next to the device (less than a 1/3 of the modem to router speed) and speeds drop for no reason after a few hours even after a hard reset when it supposedly learns your device location. No Storage USB support. Thank you BestBuy!!!! They adviced me on the return, and I bought an --- Eero Wifi 6 mesh----> with exceeding performance and experience.

Hoping this router, along with using 4 Volpe mesh nodes would finally fix our internet problem in a 2000sq ft house, instead, it become a new problem, endless resetting and restarting of nodes needed. The app is slow and you often have to refresh the app multiple times to find what the problem is. The nodes have LED lights that indicate their status, but really don't tell you anything in real-time. And while resetting or restarting the app must be left open and running and not left in the background.

I don't know what happened to Linksys but there product quality has gone downhill. My family and I are constantly getting random drops in WIFI, not normal everyone drops but random one person here and one person there. Recently I was dropped and stood 2 feet from the modem and it still wouldn't connect until I was going to give up the boom it suddenly connected. I purchased this router because of problems with my previous one and had great success in the past with them.

Within two weeks I'm now having to reboot the unit at least once per week so that devices can connect. Would not recommend for that reason alone. Have had good luck with previous Linksys products & this is a disappointment. Would probably be resolved with a firmware update if Linksys gets around to it. Throughput for multiple devices is good and the internet speed test feature from the web interface is a nice feature. User interface needs to be reworked so that it doesn't show the SSIDs without pressing a button. Does not display the guest wifi network range the same way it shows the home WLAN.

Coming from a long time owner of the Linksys EA7500, this router has been a disappointment comparatively. I’ve had this router for a couple weeks now and I’ve had issues with devices either randomly disconnecting, unable to connect, or slow speeds; even with the “latest and greatest tech”. For the price, you’d think they’d have it together with this equipment. I don’t recommend this router at all.

Not impressed. I have used routers that cost a third of this & have had better coverage, reliability, & performance. Every evening this thing goes on the fritz. It glitches quite regularly during the day when only my wife is home. Then after the kids and myself get home, around prime time, the status light think it’s a cop car. Red,blue, red, blue. If you’ve put together a smart home like mine, this does not work very well. Definitely not recommend.

I purchased this router about 3 weeks ago. It has not worked correctly since it was installed. Sloooooooooooooooower than molasses in January in Wisconsin. I would like to find a solution other than buying a new one to replace this and it seems to be always searching for a channel. As a result my iphone battery life is substantially impacted. Very disappointed in yet another router.

      Hi, LisaC,

If the slow internet connection only appears on the wireless network of the Linksys MR9600, then please try to power cycle the router and try running the channel finder for isolation. Make sure as well to run the latest firmware version of the Linksys MR9600 and update us on how it goes so we can have it checked with our Escalation Engineers. Hi, USAVETERAN,

We might need to check and consider the distance and number of devices connected to the network. Checking the firmware might also help as well as the placement of the router. Make sure that it’s away from physical obstructions and potential wireless interference as it will greatly affect the speed and range. Moreover, let’s have our Escalation Engineers assist you so they can investigate this further. Hi, sd2guys,

The MR9600 router has one SSID for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band in order for the mesh technology to work, however, you also have an option to split the bands if needed. It is sad that you already returned the unit as we could’ve had our Escalation Engineers lend you a hand. This router sucks. It forces you to use their own special app to configure it and then the app doesn't work at all. It is insane that they charge you 400 dollars for a top of the line router and then they treat you like a kid and don't let you use your router however you want to use or configure it

      Hi, Cosartlv,

The Linksys app allows you to monitor and manage your Linksys router using your mobile device. But, you can still configure the Linksys MR9600 Mesh WiFi 6 Router using the web UI. For isolation. Please try to update the Linksys app or uninstall and reinstall the app to see if that will make any difference.

Router was problematic a few days after setup when it started dropping the wi-fi and ethernet connections intermittently and the connection speeds were well below capabilities of connected devices and internet service provider.
