Once setup it works very well. High throughput. Latency seems low. Setup was a little difficult as the app was not selecting the correct WiFi Network. Once I figured out the problem the setup was seamless. Updates are very easy.

I thought installation was going to be a snap, but didn't turn out to be that way. I needed to call tech support, and they walked me through resetting the nodes. however, other than that everything seems to be working well.

Enlisted the geek squad for initial set up and this turned out to be a two step process. Second agent needed to come to house to get printers compliant with the new mesh Wi-Fi system. Working well now.

This linksys velop worked very well for the first couple of months and than I started to have issues with it. I would have to reset it every week for my WiFi to work. Took it back and got an eero system And never looked back!

I would rate it higher, however I turned off a circuit breaker that one of the nodes was plugged in to and it never reset itself properly when the power was turned back on.

My wife and I are empty-nesters who travel frequently to visit friends and family. Having a security system in place gives us peace of mind when away. The package bought thru Best buy is a good value vs other systems we looked at.

Tri-band Wi-Fi system is awesome. We were having so many issues with buffering and at times our wi-fi would cut out all together. Now using the wi-fi system we have very few issues. Kids are very happy!

Got it because I was told that this would give me 6k sq ft of good service. I bought due to wanting reception in my metal garage building. I have fiber optic and it’s ok as long as garage door stays open. I guess I loose reception when it’s closed. So going through metal and stone isn’t that great. Also, lately have been loosing at least 1 node per day, reception lost. It’s a pain gaveling to unplug, reset and wait to see if it’s going to work or you need to reboot AGAIN. I thought I did my homework on this one but I guess I should have looked some more.

      Hi, Metal,

Metal objects and stone walls are one of the physical obstructions that will hinder a good connection and may lead to a low or no signal at all. Since relocating the nodes is not an option, you can make sure instead that the nodes are running on the latest firmware. As for the dropping connection, you may try running the channel finder and if that won’t help along with an updated firmware, please get in touch with us at [email protected] so our Escalation Engineers can lend you a hand. Don’t forget to include your contact information and a link to this review as our reference.

The Linksys Velop is a great mesh router when everything is working perfectly. I just wish everything would work as advertised. The packaging for the system box is premium. There's a very modern aesthetic to both the box itself as well as the colors, fonts, and dividers for the 3 nodes. They even used thick card stock for the simple 3 set instruction guide, which emphasized large images paired with sort text. You could just feel this was a premium router and they wanted the presentation to match the price. The nodes themselves are rather attractive. They're ice white, short, angular without being sharp or jagged. They kind of evoke the spirit of of a portable speaker especially with the vent design but overall these are very pleasing to the eye. Which is good since the setup mentions they want you to place these high up on a shelf, going as far as to show it sitting on the stand under your TV in the help image. Setup of the router is absolutely simple, there aren't even any instructions - at least not traditional ones. You start by downloading the Linksys smart wifi app on your phone. If all you have is a laptop I assume you may be able to set this router up the traditional way but my assumption is that this router will make it to someone who has an android or ios device handy so it shouldn't be too big of a deal. Once you've fired up the app and selected the Velop by name or model number you're walked through setting up your first node. There really isn't a difference between any of the 3 nodes so there really isn't a main router per se, but you do need to start with one. You're asked if you currently use a modem router combo or just a router, then you're asked to proceed. I had a modem so I just plugged into one of the ports - there are only 2 ethernet ports, a power switch, a reset button, and an AC power in the base of a node - and you keep the install going. It blinked purple to say we were all good and then proceeded to take me through adding the other 2 nodes to the network. All told it took about 20 mins to set up all 3 nodes around the house. So far so good. I even took the extra step here to poke around the advanced settings in the app, just to see how much I could fiddle with it. I ended up stumbling upon a setting to adjust frequencies automatically to avoid interference and increase speed so I ran that which took another 5 minutes. At this point it was time for speed tests. Initially I ran into hiccups, the first of which was that the speed test function in the app would error out whenever I tried to run it. So then I switched to the speed test app on my phone. I got around 90 mbps down, not bad but around half my previous router. I ran 5 more tests, and too my dismay they were all below 100 mbps. These aren't horrible speeds but they did put a big dent in my expectations. There was also a lot of fluctuations in my wifi signal as it seemed that my device kept switching between nodes every few seconds. I was on the latest firmware since the last step of setup ensures that and I checked again just in case. I decided to try some more devices and got similar results, and then about an hour into things my speeds drastically picked up. I began to get 250-277 mbps and that was pretty awesome. But for every 20 speed tests I'd run, 5 would produce an abysmal 11, which was frustrating. I decided it was time to contact support the next day since it was late. The next morning I conducted more tests, got similar results as the night before. Went through a few back and forth calls with support, and eventually settle on a time which fit my schedule. The Linksys support team is actually available pretty late if you need to call in, which is a plus, and the staff are very helpful. I always hate to go through issues only to be told to cut it off and on again but eventually by the time I had a level 2 support agent help me out my phone had ceased to keep jumping between nodes, my speeds had leveled out on the download end, and the only thing I had left was slow upload speed. That was resolved by restarting my router. Everything was good as I hung up, and I thought all was right with the world. I was wrong. After hanging up I realized that all my awesome speed tests were done on the main node. I tried another node in the bedroom and got 50mbps. Whether to the 2nd node and got 80. I fiddled with different servers for the speed tests, I unplugged and re plugged the routers, resynced them, moved them higher, re-ran the frequency test; nothing- same results. At this point I'm exhausted. So now I'm at the point where I have to clear my schedule to spend another hour of my free time troubleshooting or just live with it. I've decided on the latter for now until I get another off day. In general I like the router, I think the setup is simple and straightforward foward, the app is easy to use, and the node are powerful. But it sure is frustrating to read the box and see full speed everywhere and get lousy speed everywhere except where your modem node is, even standing right in front of the others. Granted my speed is good enough where a lot of people wouldn't even bother to try and get more or would need it. But I know as more devices start using the network I'm going to bottleneck, and you don't invest this type of money to get a product that's just good, you want great. So for now I'd have to rank this setup as good not great and you may want to take a hard look at some other mesh systems before you invest your money and time here with this system. Hopefully Linksys corrects this problem so that it is able to operate at it's maximum capacity as designed and all the nodes produce similar speeds.

This was not cheap, but worth it. Because of COVID-19, everyone is working from home, e.g., a drain on the wifi and many dropping or weak connections. So this purchase was well worth it.

I was using other WiFi extenders prior to purchasing this product, but was not satisfied at all. Since I got this system, I haven't had any Internet issues, except for stormy days, and I live in the wooded area, and it still works good.
