After trialing this new WiFi home solution, I was impressed with it's capabilities and functionality. While pricey, if it's in your budget and you have a larger home, then you will be impressed.
My system came with three nodes which claim to be able to cover 6000 square feet. My home is only 2300 square feet but I tested this by spending some time in the yard and found that I still had a strong signal and max speeds during speed tests. If you don't need this kind of range you can purchase less nodes and save on the cost. One of the best things about this system is that it can grow with you and your home. As you find the need to expand the network range, you can add new nodes very easily. The app is very handy for this.
Set-up was very easy. The instruction manual that the package comes with basically just tells you to install the app and run it. I was skeptical, but it really was that simple. The app is well designed and walks you through every step until you are up and running. Even individuals with low tech skill will do fine.
The app has other nice features that make it easy to enable guest mode, tweak your network settings, and prioritize traffic to individual devices.
I would easily give this product 5 stars if it were more affordable as $500 is a lot to pay to enhance your Wi-Fi network. But if you need coverage for 6000 square feet, affordability might not be a factor.

Linksys VELOP Whole-Home Mesh Wi-Fi Network System
Modular 3-Node Dynamic Tri-Band MU-MIMO Dual-Stream (2x2) Routers w/2 5GHz Bands & 1 2.4GHz Band
Model: WHW0303/AC6600
GOOD FOR
-4K Streaming
-Gaming
-Video Chats
-Smart Home Products
FEATURES
-6 built-in antennas & high-powered amps
-Auto-sensing network ports
-Velop App w/Spot-Finder Technology: recommends best placement for additional nodes: reducing latency, maximizing throughput, & improving range/signal strength to deliver the best performance.
-Linksys XConnect: ensures sensitive info like passwords are encrypted/secure when passed between nodes.
-Each node dedicates one 5GHz band for ‘backhaul’ ops (node linking), preventing signal loss & the 50% efficiency drop caused by a band that’s otherwise required to both receive & rebroadcast signal simultaneously.
-Integrates w/Amazon’s Alexa Virtual Personal Asst. to control your home network w/verbal commands, incl. toggling a Guest network on/off & requesting Wi-Fi networks' passwords, etc.
-Seamless Wi-Fi: Velop’s signal hand-off allows you to roam w/a connected smartphone/tablet/laptop from 1 node to another & from 1 end of the house or office to the other w/o interruption.
-Airtime/Device Prioritization/Load Balancing: allows multiple devices w/different Wi-Fi speeds to be treated uniquely, connecting each device at optimum speed so that faster devices transmit at faster speeds while slower devices don’t impede the speed of your Wi-Fi network.
-Dynamic Channel Selection: At setup, the Velop App dynamically scans available channels to select the best combo of bands/channels for optimum performance. The Channel Finder feature automatically finds the best channels on demand to resolve congestion/interference issues created by competing Wi-Fi signals.
-If any node loses connection to another node, the remaining nodes self-heal & re-establish Internet connection thru other nodes in the network.
-Wi-Fi-linked nodes can also be linked together by Ethernet cables to eliminate signal loss/distance restrictions.
-Auto Updates: Velop’s cloud service connection auto-monitors firmware status, conducting security/performance updates to prevent vulnerabilities from delayed manual firmware updates. Users can toggle off auto-update feature.
PROS
-Once into the App, setup is quick & easy. Uses Bluetooth to auto ID nodes to be setup & creates secure connection between mobile device & each node. Can set parental controls, guest network, & add & auto-fix nodes.
-Strong, reliable, secure, seamless connectivity w/excellent signal strength, range, speed, & overall performance right to edge of network. No disconnects so far.
-Expandability: I can continue to add more nodes to grow my mesh network, w/each node adding ~2k sq. ft.
-Aesthetics: Attractive hi-tech design/form factor offers sleek/compact/minimalist modular system w/small footprint
-Cable mgmt. system keeps excess wires out of sight for neat/clean look.
-Customer Support: 24/7
-Warranty: 3-yrs. vs. several competitors’ 1-yr. warranty
NEUTRAL
The 3rd VELOP node is in some cases overkill & likely needed only if you have a very large or multi-story home. Our humble abode did fine w/just 1 node (up to ~2k sq. ft.), & most homes can be easily blanketed w/impressive speeds w/just 2 nodes (up to ~4k sq. ft.). 3 nodes can cover up to ~6k sq. ft.
CONS
-It would be helpful & would save A LOT of time if the instructions made clear the necessity of logging out of your established Linksys acct. when replacing an existing Linksys Router. You have to create an entirely new acct. w/Linksys’ Velop router. Instructions should also advise that you’ll need your ISP settings, Username & Password BEFORE disconnecting your current setup as part of an “Items Needed” checklist prior to set up.
-Access/Navigation: Unfortunately, the Velop router can’t be accessed by PC. It can only be accessed via the new Velop Android or iOS App. I’d prefer to be able to login to a Linksys web-based interface via my PC, as I did w/my Linksys EA-9500/AC5400 MU-MIMO Router. With Velop, I’m forced to use Linksys’ mobile app which I find harder to navigate & less user friendly overall. Case in pt.: For security reasons, I don’t like storing/accessing important passwords/logins via my smartphone. I have a long, secure, unmemorizable Linksys acct. login password which I always cut & pasted via my PC whenever I accessed my Linksys EA-9500 router. But I no longer enjoy the same ease of login or security via the Velop smartphone app. A full-size browser window & a real keyboard is far more convenient than tapping away on a tiny smartphone. And the Linksys web-based interface for the EA9500 offered a much better display of all my options for easy adjustability/fine-tuning of my Wi-Fi network settings vs. having to drill down & search thru menus on the Velop mobile app.
-Connectivity: I’ve had major problems w/the Velop router re: printer sharing. The 2nd Velop node easily connects a 2nd desktop computer in a 2nd home office on the network, but the HP LaserJet printer that’s hardwired to that computer isn’t found/displayed. I still can’t even see that printer on the network even though the node easily finds & connects to a nearby HP Inkjet printer. This was never a problem w/the Linksys EA-9500/AC5400 Router.
-Parental Controls: These allow you to restrict access to inappropriate content, control usage, & block specific devices from accessing the Internet. But poor design of the app limits some features to very basic usage.
-Ports: Only 2 Ethernet ports per node can be very inconvenient. You can use a switch w/the Velop to expand the # of ports, but this defeats the node’s small footprint concept. There’s also no USB port for printer or storage.
-AC Power Adapter: The oversized white square adapter measures nearly 2½” x 2 ½”. Even when using 1 of the offset/gapped sockets on my APC power strip/surge protector, this brick obscures access to the next closest socket.
-Aesthetics: Each node’s mini-tower is white. I’d prefer an option in basic black &/or other colors to allow for color matching/blending w/individual room décor. For example: all the tech/telecom hardware in my home office, den, & study is in business black; so, the white mini-tower sticks out like a sore thumb.

They came in a big box! Each wifi point are really good looking and there is no need to hide them. I have them out in the open. Setting them up was easy, however, there were a few hiccups during the process where the app (android linksys app is required to set them up) would just stay either searching or stuck on a step, however it was easy to solve with just going back the previous step and resuming. It definitely needs some work as some not too tech savvy people may have issues here.
Other than that, the coverage is incredible and the speeds are amazing. I set them up on my living room, main hallway that connects my living room with bedrooms (this area has been always a dead spot) and my master bedroom. I get full speeds on my furthest point (master bedroom), as if I was connected directly to my previous router via Ethernet directly, this is amazing!
Pros:
+Full coverage on large homes.
+Amazing speeds
+Easy to monitor via the android/ios app.
+Very good looking design, can be used as decoration.
+Each point has 2 Ethernet ports, so you'll have 5 in total (on the point connected to your modem, one port is used to connect to it).
Cons:
-Setup could be better, some bugs on the app, however updates can solve this.
-Some bugs either on the firmware of the router or the app, i.e. sometimes it shows some of my devices as offline, however they are connected and working fine. Since the router just came out, expect some bugs, that should be squashed via future firmware updates.
-No IPv6 support. I have emailed their support, and they responded right away, saying feedback is always welcome, and may be added in the future.

No matter where I placed my previous router, there was always a “dead spot” somewhere in my house. It was usually my master bedroom, on the far end of the house. I tried using a repeater, but my phone seem to hold onto the main router’s WiFi even if it was down to 1 bar, despite the repeater’s WiFi being readily available. So what is this “mesh networking”? It turned out to be the perfect solution for me.
PROs
+ Mesh networks cover a wide area seamlessly: With traditional routers, your phone only connects at one point in the house. The signal degrades the further you get away from your router. With this mesh network, there are now 3 points my devices can connect to. So if I wonder to another portion of the house, my phone or laptop automatically connects to the strongest point, because to that device, it looks like one large network. Or if something causes interference at one point (microwave switched on, Bluetooth speaker in use, etc), there are 2 other points my device can connect to.
+ No multiple networks with repeaters: Many WiFi devices do not “handoff” smoothly from a router to a repeater. For example, if your phone connects to your main router when you get home, but you then wonder away from it, your phone will try to maintain that connection to the router, even though the stronger signal from your repeater is available, as to not interrupt your WiFi connection. Also, going through each “repeater” cuts your bandwidth in half, since the repeater needs to first talk to the main router, then turn around and pass that data to your device. With mesh networking, your house is blanketed with one large continuous WiFi “blanket”. Even though there are 3 points, your phone only “sees” one network, so handoff is not an issue.
+ Easy setup: With the Linksys app, you can easily configure the nodes thanks to Bluetooth. You don’t even need to mess with your phone’s WiFi settings when setting up the system.
CONs
- There is no web interface for the Velop: All settings must be made in the app. This is likely fine for most people and the app lets you configure some advanced features like Port Forwarding (for gaming and IP cameras) and MAC filtering (to restrict devices connecting to your network). However, one feature that is missing from the app that I typically use with my routers is DHCP Reservations. Hopefully Linksys will add this in a future update.
- Few Ethernet Ports: Each node has two Ethernet ports available, except the first node where one port is used to connect to your modem. If you like to connect your devices via Ethernet, you’ll likely need to purchase a network switch to expand the number of available Ethernet ports.
The Linksys Velop has worked great in my home. I now get a solid connection anywhere in my home, as if I was sitting right beside the router. I can stream in HD in my bedroom where previously I would have buffering and interruptions. Setup was easily accomplished using the app on my smartphone, with easy to follow instructions. There are a few limitations that “power users” may miss, but for most consumers, the Linksys Velop provides a solid connection throughout the entire house.

First of all it took me about 30 minutes to wait for somebody to answer my call on the Linksys customer line then took me about an hour and 25 minutes to set up the Velop towers... it works fine for 2 days; then the signal started cuting on and off... i call my internet provider and there was no problem at all with my modem... so i called the Linksys customer line again and wait for almost 20 minutes... they guide me on resetting the whole system and hooked it back again in less than 30 minutes and vooola!!! Up and running for 2 more days!!!!!!! I made my decision Velop is a nightmare....

This router was introduced by Linksys in CES 2017 with Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi feature.
It came in a excellent box with 3 nodes. The packing is excellent. Velop is designed for high-performance Wi-Fi. Each Velop features a beautiful, sleek design that can be placed in open spaces, and away from obstructions to provide the best in-home Wi-Fi experience. Compact in size, Velop node is easy to place throughout the home and features an 88% smaller footprint than that of a traditional router. Its tower design supports vertical antenna placement, which enhances Wi-Fi dispersion throughout your home. Additionally, Velop features a cable management system designed to hide connected cables and keep your home clutter-free.
The setup was very easy. Please note that setup can be done only by Android or iOS app. I have connected the first node and able to connect to the internet in less than 2 mins. I have placed other two nodes in two different locations (first and second floor) in my house and followed the steps to configure the nodes. All nodes connected successfully to internet less than 10 mins. The cool feature is during setup it will check and tell you whether nodes are in ideal spots to get max Wi-Fi speeds.
I switched over from the Netgear Orbi. I was facing slow speeds, Wi-Fi disconnects at my home and this router resolved all the issues. Linksys Velop is a high-performing modular Wi-Fi mesh system of nodes built to provide exceptional Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. It sets up in minutes and delivers a flawless, ultra-fast, full-strength signal.
Featuring with Dynamic Tri-band technology, this router outperforms the competition by providing faster speeds through its combination of three Wi-Fi radios, each tuned for optimal Wi-Fi load balancing to ensure peak Wi-Fi performance throughout the home. Whether you're streaming 4K content, gaming, or video chatting, Velop delivers exceptionally fast Wi-Fi to ensure optimal performance even when multiple Wi-Fi devices are connected.
Each Velop node is a powerful Tri-Band connection point offering up to 2,000 square feet of coverage and with velop's modular design it will perform well in any home type. This router mesh system operates as a singular network that works to ensure a 100% seamless connection as you move throughout your home
I was able to configure with Amazon Echo and it is working flawlessly to tell your guest network password, wifi password etc. It is a nice feature. However, I have disabled this feature due to security reason.
With the Linksys App, you can closely monitor and manage your home Wi-Fi remotely using a smartphone or tablet.
Parental Controls: Ensure a safe Internet experience for your kids--even when you're away from home. Reduce online distractions during homework, family or dinnertime. Restrict access to inappropriate or distracting content, control usage, and block specific devices from accessing the Internet.
Guest Access: Generate a separate, password-protected Wi-Fi network for up to 50 guests and easily share the password via text.
Device Prioritization: Prioritize devices that need the most speed.
Auto-Fix: Automatically select the best channel for your device and eliminate congestion with the push of a button.
Speed Test: Easily test and monitor your Internet connection's speed to make sure you're getting full speed from your provider.
Notification : Enable notification to alert if any of the node is not working.
I was able to setup the port forwarding in Linksys iOS app for my Plex Server and Plex Server connected for remote access without any issues.
I am extremely pleased with this purchase and router performance. It is one of the most innovative and fastest router in the market with many great features. If you are looking for faster internet and longer Wi-Fi range, Please buy this router without any hesitation. You will not be disappointed with your purchase.

Just got my pack of three nodes to replace my previous tri-bound router that was having a bit of a lag.
I love the Velop system, the setup was a piece of cake. There was one card in the box unlike other products that had three steps listed. It asked me to download the Linksys app and then the application LITERALLY did everything for me. It configured the network for me and I was able to add a guest user network unlike my previous one.
Can't wait to play video games online without having a lag of any sort, just downloaded Austin Mahone's new album and it was downloaded in 12-15 seconds. It happened so fast I couldn't clock it! :)
Aesthetically it is neat, it has this purple glow if it is successfully connected unlike those routers that glow a lime green light that you can't stand in the middle of the night because it keeps me up.
I live in a open space home with a lot of square footage and I tucked my main node in the living room and placed the other two on opposite sides of the home and they connected easily without any trouble.
I am streaming a Nicki Minaj concert and it's playing in 720p. I'm always in awe with Linksys. I've had routers of theirs in the past and my previous one was my only router not from this family.
Can't wait to host a gathering because a lot of times people want to jump on our network but I get scared because in the past it has slowed down our internet with all that traffic but I've connected all our devices in our home which exceed 20 wifi devices, and I can prioritize devices!
Well done Velop team!

When moving into my new condo we had a few dead spots because of the wall layout and unlike in my old place we weren't going to remodel anything or rip any walls open so that I could hardwire everything. We have a 1400 square foot place which is about three times as long as it is wide. I have one velop in the center of the house where the internet comes in, and one behind the entertainment center hooked up to a ethernet switch which everything in the entertainment center hooks into. I am using this to replace a tp-link powerline setup which worked well in other locations but for some reason not at all well in this house. With the two velop system everything is running at peak speed for what I am getting out of my wall from the internet provider. The system was very easy to set up and should be easy to use for even the most casual of tech users. Be aware that this is not the system for you if you require granular control over your firewall or want the router to run a VPN server. (I run a vpn on my main computer only so this was a non issue for me.) It will do dedicated port forwarding, let you assign permanent ip addresses to a device and will let you prioritize three devices in the network for amount of bandwidth over other devices. (my work computer and our ps3 which we use for netflix and amazon video get priority in our house). It also has parental controls that let you set both a schedule and restrict websites by individual device, which is nice and very easy to use.
The system has been very reliable with no dropouts and very consistent speed. I get great signal, and speed everywhere in the condo. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anybody who needs reliable WiFi signal in their house with very easy setup.
P. S. (I tried both the orbi and this and kept the Velop... the orbi is not a true mesh system and did not do wireless handoff as well, although it had even better range (which I didn't need) and more advanced controls) the orbi is also much larger and not as good looking in the house.

Let me preface my review with the disclaimer that I am an IT guy and therefore have worked with WiFi routers from entry-level to enterprise level. The Linksys Velop uses some higher level WiFi technology and concepts behind the scenes to create an easy to set up and manage home WiFi network.
Out of the box (we have the 3-pack) there are no instructions other than "download the Linksys App" for Android or iPhone. [I'd give 5-stars had it not been for the forced app download and subsequent need to register a Linksys account. I personally don't like having to put another app on my mobile device to manage a product.] Once you have created your Linksys account and launched the app, the setup is pretty much a no-brainer as they walk you through step-by-step illustrated animations of the setup and configuration. (Setup also requires that you have bluetooth turned on on your Android or iOS device to detect your Velop antennas during setup.)
The setup knows to ask some critical questions such as "Is your home 'modem only' or 'modem with a router'?" For those who don't know the difference, there is a clear illustration to help you decide. From there you simply start plugging in the antennas (one to the modem via provided ethernet cable, the others anywhere in the house within approx 6' of a power outlet). Screens ask you to verify you are plugged in, then your phone (via bluetooth and an internet connection) magically connects, tests, and "meshes" your antennas together to complete the setup process. If an antenna is too far away from another the app will let you know you need relocate it. We did have an issue with connecting our basement antenna upon first attempt. When it failed, the app told us how to fix the problem then offered a "try connecting again" option and we were all set.
Aside from some early confusion in the setup of my Linksys account that had me thinking I was naming my home network (SSID) as opposed to my Linksys account network name, management is simple and straightforward with the Velop offering the features most families need. Again, it appears that all the features and controls of the network must be managed via the mobile app. There is no plugging a laptop directly into an antenna or opening a local webpage to control settings, or if there is, Linksys does not make that option clear. As for features, the parental controls and device management tools are fairly basic and simple. I like that you can rename devices in device management to more friendly names (Dad's Phone vs. Android123456789abcdef). You can also prioritize devices which is a big deal when you have lots of devices and family members who may work from home and need priority. Guest Access lets you create a separate network (and password) that you can share with guests while keeping them away from your data. There are advanced features that let you control DHCP settings, etc. for the nerds like myself. You can block websites by name or an entire device manually, but you cannot block sites by category. I was unable to determine how to set time restrictions in the Parental Controls which stated "scheduled time blocking can be created/edited only in the web-based interface" but does not tell you the web address of that interface. For more on the app, you can Google "Linksys App-enabled Routers" and see screenshots and watch video. One of the best features of the app is the ability to text or email your network (private or guest) credentials to a user.
We live in a 2-story 2400 sq ft home with a full basement. We have 15 internet connected devices running 24/7/365 more or less. The basement (xBox, SmartTV, Chromecast, mobile devices) would sometimes struggle with our ISP provided WiFi. We put an access point (Velop antenna) in the basement to solve that problem. We also stream music to an outdoor sound system and use devices on the deck or garage. Our ISP WiFi would barely reach. An access point on the second floor nearest our backyard solved the outdoor issues. Additionally, we use a hybrid cell/WiFi phone system because cellular reception is poor in our neighborhood. Velop strengthened our signal throughout the home and yard, greatly increasing reliability of our mobile phone connections.
Speed seems great, devices are not intrusive nor is the "on" light annoying at night. Antennas can be easily moved if you need temporary strength elsewhere. As long as you have power nearby you can, for the most part, expand your WiFi coverage with ease.
All said, the Velop is a solid performer that solved several of my dead-spot issues in a fairly large house with garage/outdoor/basement WiFi needs for over a dozen internet connected devices.

After spending a few days with the Linksys Velop I mostly adore it with a tiny bit of annoyance on the side. It seems like it is absolutely worth the purchase, but keep in mind the product is very new as of Jan 2016, and might have a few kinks in it still as I experienced.
I have the three pack to cover my two-story home. Coming from a single router before, I always had a few dead spots or slow connections spots in my upstairs and my Wi-Fi was set up downstairs. Range extenders did not help too much either. I jumped with joy when my Linksys Velop arrived. The packaging feels premium with high quality cardboard, units packed in nice sleeves, simple instructions and nice graphics. It felt like opening an Apple product to me. I took my first unit downstairs and plugged it in. It requires the use of the iOS app or Android app to set up (you cannot use a typical web browser on a PC oddly enough). If you have Windows Phone you might be out of luck as I do not thing Linksys has an app for that OS. My first snag was that the default password did not seem to be working. I was setting it up on an iOS device and it just would not work for the life of me. I tried in on my Android phone and I had not problems. It was strange and I cannot explain or replicate the issue but it created a headache. After getting it up and running, setting up the other two units was a breeze and only took a few minutes while they figured out the best way for them to talk to each other.
I placed two units downstairs at opposite ends of the house and one at the top of the stairs to cover the upstairs area. After a few speed tests, I had almost perfect signals and speeds in all parts of my house! It was a bit slower in my bedroom but not as dramatically as it used to be. The menus in the app are simple compared to what I was used to with my old router so that can be a pro or a con depending on the person. My only connection issue I had was with my desktop PC which I hooked up via Ethernet to the main Velop unit for gaming. It seems to hang a lot when loading videos or pages. I am thinking this is an issue with firmware and might be fixed in a future update since I have no issues when I switch it over to Wi-Fi.
Design wise, the units look awesome. The little white monoliths have an artsy feel to them as there are subtle curves along the surface. It can easily be a conversation starter in the house as I would not be afraid to put them in a common room as opposed to an older router with antennas sticking out. The indicator light which glows multiple colors is not too bright looks appealing as well on the unit. Kudos to Linksys for having a great design team on this one.
There is a lack of connectors on the Velop so if you have a dire need for USB or Ethernet, this might not be for you. Each unit has two Ethernet ports. For the closest unit to your modem, one is used for connecting to the internet (WAN). The other port is for a LAN. On the other units around the house, both ports can be used as LAN connections. So, there is several ports total but they are distributed throughout the house which can be good or bad. If you use USB on a router for hooking up a hard drive, you will need to look for another solution.
I only experienced a few issues but some were annoying such as the Ethernet hiccups and setup issue. I think for most people they will not see any problems or have the same issues. Again, as they are new I feel Linksys will have better firmware out in the coming months but that is never guaranteed. The Velop system is probably the best Wi-Fi routers I have ever owned with overall consistent performance and speed with style to boot.

Hi, Psyclopps,
Thank you for describing the Velop System as the best Wi-Fi router you have ever owned. We're glad that you were able to successfully set up the unit despite the issues you've encountered during the process. It's true that Linksys App only works with iOS and Android devices and not for Windows OS. To avoid any possible challenges during the installation, it is best to use the updated Linksys App readily available to download on PlayStore and Apple Store.
Our Escalation Engineers would love to look into the connection issues you've raised pertaining to your desktop PC when hooked up via Ethernet port. Please get in touch with us at [email protected] or give us a ring at 800-986-0518, in your most convenient time.
Regards,

One of the Best Routers I have ever Used!

This is the most easiest set up i have ever done. I have installed a lot of routers and modems and this router is the easiest one i have done. I used an app to set it up instead of the web interface option. I live in a guest house in the back yard (where i have my modem as well) and i was concern of the front house having low signal, the router nodes eliminate that concern. My family members and myself pay for the internet so i have to make sure the internet stay connected all the time and can handle all the gadgets, game consoles, iPhones, etc it can. In total there are 26 gadgets using my wifi and with this Velop tri band I can't feel any lag. The routers are stylish and simple. I installed one in the guest house, living room, and master bedroom. You don't have to be a tech savvy person to install this, it's almost dumb proof. I would recommend to anyone.
I did have some problems after installing it. I couldn't get the speed test to work or the prioritization option to work on the app, so i don't know if it has to do with the app itself or router, but overall i am very happy with this router. I have a big backyard between where i stay (the guest house) and the front house, there are a lot of walls between us, and this router makes sure i don't lose signal. The installation even tells me where is a good place (distance) to get the best signal.

The Velop Whole House Mesh WiFi system is a good system. I've been using it for 2-3 weeks, and although it's doing the job it's meant to do, there are a few things that bug me about it.
I set the system up in a 3-level, 3000+ sq ft house. The whole installation process is Bluetooth driven from the Linksys app and took about 10 minutes to complete. I placed one node on each level and I had absolutely no problem with the setup. One thing that I initially noticed is that the power adapters are rather large, which means they'll probably take up more than one slot if you're plugging them into a power strip. Other than this one complaint about the physical aspects of the system, the 'towers' themselves are nice looking and very unassuming, so you don't have to try to hide them; they reminded me of stylish Bluetooth speakers.
After the physical installation, I used the app to actually set up the network. The app works well, and is well laid out, but there are several things that I didn't particularly like. For instance, there is only one SSID. I am using another Linksys dual-band router in another house that has separate SSIDs and I find the ability to see what devices are connected to each channel useful. I also couldn't find any way to edit advanced network features like DHCP and DNS, and as far as I can tell, you cannot define your own network IP address. Another odd thing I noticed when looking at attached devices is that sometimes devices showed up as connected thru 'Ethernet'. I'm not sure why this is, since none of my devices are connected thru Ethernet. Lastly, after I set up the Velop system, I was no longer able to use the app to control the Linksys router at my other house. I can still access that router through the linksyssmartwifi.com website, but it would be nice to be able to access multiple routers (locations) via the same app. I'm sure most of the issues can be addressed by Linksys with a firmware update, but it could be that this system is meant to be 'simpler'.
As far as speed and stability go, I have internet speed of about 120Mbs and the speeds are almost maxed and stable at every point in my house when using a device capable of 5Ghz connection. The older devices of course have slower speeds, but they too are stable throughout the house. I did have some small problems connecting an older laptop to the system, but after a driver update, it connected painlessly. I haven't noticed any dead zones in my house, and the system's ability to recover from a power outage was on display last week when the power went out while I was out of town. I got an email telling me the system was offline (corresponding with an alert from the power company of an outage), and then an hour later I got an email telling me the system was back up. When I got home later that night, my phone connected to the network as I drove up my driveway.
Overall, I think this system is worth a look if you have a multi-level home that a traditional router isn't handling well. Although it appears to be geared more toward the user that just wants to plug something in and connect devices and does not want to bother with advanced router settings, it's still a good solution where coverage is an issue.

I’ll get right to the point. The Linksys Velop 3 node system is hands down the easiest to install system I’ve ever tested and has ended up being the fastest within the walls of my house by a factor of 2x over the competition! Those two points truly surprised me – as I was not expecting such a quality product from Belkin so soon.
To qualify my assessment, to say that I’m a geek is an understatement. I absolutely LIVE for technology, and when it comes to home WiFi, I review 4-5 routers a year! I’m an IT Professional for over 15 years and I evaluate all sorts of technical products on my spare time – from the routers, modems, thermostats, cameras, storage systems, etc – you name it.
OK – so back to the WiFi system. I’m an owner of the NetGear Orbi system as well – so I setup both systems live – side by side – to do a more accurate comparison.
The Velop system came well packaged and neatly organized into the box. Three small Nodes, 3 power supplies and an Ethernet cable. The only instructions say “Download the app”. That’s it. So – I downloaded the app and walked one of the Nodes (all three nodes are identical so it doesn’t matter which one you choose) downstairs to plug it into my modem. I started the app, created a new account and within a minute, it detected the first node, asked me what I wanted to call this WiFi network and what password to give it, and we were done. I didn’t have to type in an SSID or default password or anything!
Node 2. The Linksys app left off on a screen where I could either click Finish, or add another node, so I click Add another node. Now up on my main floor, I plugged in Node 2, gave it a few seconds to startup, and clicked through the app prompts on my iPhone and BOOM – done with Node 2! Wow, I thought. That’s pretty slick!
Node 3. Again, selecting the option to add another Node, I walked the last node upstairs to the Master Bedroom. This node was a little farther away from the rest, but I thought I’d test it out in a remote location. I’ll admit I had a bit of trouble with this Node, and the app walked by through restarting the Node and connecting it up to the network successfully, but that took about 8-10 minutes to complete. Sweet!
The next step was to automatically check for updates – and all three Nodes required an update. That took another 10 minutes – but after that – things were smooth sailing.
The first test was to use “WiFi SweetSpots” when attached to the appropriate network (Velop or Orbi) to compare the device to WiFi speeds. See attached images. The “WadesWorld” is the Velop network, while “Jungleland” is the Orbi network. I was shocked to see the 2x performance of the Velop vs Orbi. I'll be doing more tests over the next few days, but wanted to get this out there right away in case someone is looking for advice.
The Velop has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals, so attaching legacy wireless devices to your network should not be a problem. The Linksys app is also well thought out – and has built in speedtest functions, Channel optimization (see screenshot), remote access and more. Nice job Linksys!
Overall – I was pleasantly surprised by the features, ease of setup and use of this router, and will be recommending this to my family and friends super option for a whole-house mesh network. You won’t be disappointed!

Challenging Setup, Visual and Wifi Perfection

I had high hopes for this new whole home wifi system from Linksys. And, once it was finally up and running correctly, it has been amazing. The biggest struggle I had was in the setup itself. What should have been a plug and play experience ended with an hour call to Linksys tech support to help correct the errors I was getting.
The difficulty was in the iPhone app, as there is no option to use a computer to setup the mess network. I continuously received errors related to the distance between the nodes, however they were only 20 feet apart in my initial setup, they registered as too far away and the app would freeze. After the tech support phone call, a complete hard reset of the entire system, and a little patience, it now works with amazing speed and zero gaps in coverage inside and about 200 ft from my home outside - great for the summer bbq and outdoors season ahead.
I am sure that my experience was unique and this would not be the norm for set up for others, but it is fair to let others know just in case. Would have rated at 5 stars if not for the personal hassles I experienced.
Pros
- Blazing fast speeds (fastest yet for any router I have used) I have Xfinity Internet for reference.
- Seamless coverage for home up to 6000 sq ft
- Small footprint
- Visually appealing
- Easy setup process when it works (if you do not get the errors I listed above)
- Rivals similar products from other makers
- Touts that the Velop system is learning and will continue to grow for you individual home needs
- Offers Linksys dashboard in app with important features such as Parental Controls and Guest Access setups
Cons
- Setup errors, as described above, can be frustrating and time consuming to correct
- Nodes are taller than competitors' whole home wifi systems - some people might find this unhelpful depending upon their individual setup needs and node locations
- Linksys app is a little clunky which may had added to my setup issues
- Linksys Velop requires Android or iPhone to set up. No computer setup option could be found
- While visually appealing, green-conscious consumers may find the size of the packaging to be too much, although it all appears to be biodegradable
If you have a large area which you need to setup wifi, the Linksys Velop may be a perfect solution for you!

Excellent Wi-Fi Solution

The Linksys Whole Home Wi-Fi system enables you to use a Wi-Fi mesh to provide strong Wi-Fi signals throughout your whole home. The system supports homes up to 6,000 square feet using a modular system where you place nodes throughout your home. If you need to add additional nodes at a later time you can buy additional Velop nodes to expand the coverage further.
Linksys has developed an elegant solution, both in terms of the technology as well as the presentation. Unlike the Wi-Fi routers that Velop is intended to replace, you're unlikely to want to hide the Velop nodes as they look sophisticated. Linksys has also focused upon the unboxing experience, the Velop packaging is exceptional although no one purchases such a device for the unboxing experience so let's get back to reviewing the system itself.
The Velop system is simple to install and unlike traditional routers which are configured by logging into a secure Webpage, you setup the Velop system using a companion mobile app for iOS or Android.
The app walks you through the entire process and was exceptionally easy to setup.
If there was one reason why the review only received four stars, rather than five, it would be that each node only provides two Ethernet connections. On one node you have one Ethernet connection for the WAN (e.g. your incoming Internet service) and the other connection configured as a LAN. The LAN connection enables you to provide a wired connection to a PC, Blu-ray player or TV, for example. Additional Velop nodes within the system will then provide two LAN connections that can provide wired Internet connections.
While the focus of the system is obviously to provide Wi-Fi throughout the home, many users such as myself will find themselves wishing there were additional LAN connections. I'd like to see four Ethernet connections on each node in the future, although that may require each node to be a little larger.
Overall I'm extremely impressed with the Velop system and it is providing excellent Wi-Fi connectivity throughout our 2550 square foot home.

I got the Linksys Velop 3 node system. The design of the nodes look great and seems like it would go with any style interior. Enough about my interior opinions. I'll get to the reason you're looking at reviews.
The nodes are really simple each. All that is included in the box is 3 nodes, 3 power supplies and a single network cable to attach to a modem. To setup the each node you have to install the Linksys app. Setup is very very easy. Just follow instructions on the screen, although I had some issues take a while but that was not fault of the app, my phone would suspend the app whenever the screen went off.
The only difficult part of set up is choosing your own wifi name and password, or you could use the default values. You just follow the easy to read instructions and let the app know where the node is in your home and you're pretty much done. Setup was so easy, I wish all device setups were that easy.
Performance. I notice it was way better then my Asus high end wifi router and way better coverage. I tested all parts of my home and didn't have any issues connecting or slowing down. Truly the best WIFI system I've used.
The app is very easy to use and read. The app also has a dashboard and gives the user total control and is very informative. You can see what devices are on the network and also do speed test of exactly how fast you're downloading and uploading. The app has so much more features but I won't get into all of that.
The only con I would say is each node only has 2 Ethernet ports. I have a home security alarm system and the Arlo security camera system, both of these use wired Ethernet ports for internet connectivity. Since the main node already used one Ethernet port for the modem, I could only attach the Arlo security hub to that node. I had to move my home alarm hub to my bedroom with the other node. Small price to pay for a better performing WIFI system.

This is pretty expensive so like me you would want to know what exactly are you getting for the price?
PROS:
Packaging was excellent, everything is fit perfectly in a slot and it comes with an easy set up guide (not that it was needed tbh).
Setup COULD NOT BE easier. You download the linksys app from your phone (android or apple). Then it walks you through all the steps. I had zero issues with setup and it was done in 10 minutes.
Quality is what it should be for something so expensive. The only connection I had to do is the first hub to my cable router/modem, the other two I just plugged into an outlet and they were ready within minutes.
The app has all the info you need including an actual speedtest. My speed test was exactly what I should be getting from my ISP. But more importantly I no longer have issues using my steam link that used to lag like crazy, now that there is a hub about 10 feet from it. Also my nestcam that was positioned outside has a hub close to it as well and now I use it at 1080p which I had stuttering problems before.
It is the Rolls Royce of routers and what they will all look like in the future I am sure.
CONS
Price obviously is high, not everyone can shell out that much
No other that I can think of. The cables are white, i guess for some that might be a con?

The Linksys - Velop Tri-Band Whole Home Wi-Fi System (3-pack) is packaged in a beautiful & functional box with magnetic closure - it exudes quality! Each Node is protected individually. Just looking at the box, you expect a premium, esoteric product... & Linksys delivers that & more in spades! The shapely Nodes are beautiful & blend with any decorating style.
Simple set-up via the Linksys iOS or Android App. Within minutes, you are ready to go online.
As shown in attached photo, I have 90 wireless devices utilized over 5,000 sq feet / 3 floors: this is a challenging application for high speed Wi-Fi that includes: connected major appliances; BAS ceiling fans & Haiku Wi-Fi connected lights; Wi-Fi Thermostats; Netatmo Wi-Fi Weather Station; 65 Hue Lights; Connected exterior door locks; Wink Wi-Fi connected devices; connected iDevices, Nest & Arlo cameras; iPads; iPhones & computers. Finally, Streaming from 4) Apple TV's; Nixplay Wi-Fi Photo Frames.
And now the Results:
Velop delivers the fastest Wi-Fi speed I have ever experienced and does so consistently! The attached screen capture shows 349 Mbps Download / 23 Mbps Upload. These are WIRELESS speeds!! I pay for 300 Mbps Download / 30 Mbps Upload & our internet service provider generally delivers 300 - 360 Download & 22 - 32 Upload.
Velop is the only Wi-Fi System I have found to date that actually delivers this sustainable speed and does not randomly disconnect the many devices.
High power Wi-Fi requires a high current source. Each of the 3) square white power supplies produce 12 Volt, 2 Amp output! 24VA (Volt Amps) is the highest output of any router I have tested. Better yet, the cable that plugs into each Velop is perfectly angled at the plug so the wire routs neatly through the cable management feature at the base. Brilliant design!
PRO's:
1- Fastest Wi-Fi Speed
2- Easy approximate 10 minute Set-up per hub
3- Velop Nodes are very attractive & blend with any architecture
4- Robust infrastructure yields dependable performance
5- 24/7 Support
6- 3-Year Warranty
7- Easy to use App with great diagnostics
8- Wire Management at the base is excellent & offers a wire free appearance.
9- Three Velop Nodes establish fast Wi-Fi speed across the house on any floor.
10- Expandable: Add an additional Node any time you prefer.
CON's:
1- IP Address range cannot be changed from: 192.***. My 2) existing Apple Time Capsule / Routers had IP addresses of 10.***, but they can be set to different ranges. A different IP Address range requires individually resetting a few devices that previously connected to the other range. For example, each Nixplay connected frame had to manually "Forget" the old Wi-Fi name of the previous SSID, then set up the same name with Velop, even though the Wi-Fi name and password are the same. On 13) Apple Airport Express devices, I had to power down each device to reset it from 10.*** to 192.***
2- IPv6 is not supported as of product release. This is surprising, as my three year old Apple Time Capsule / Router supported IPv6.
3- The first unit set up in under 10 minutes; however the remaining two hubs froze at the same exact place midway every time during set-up. After 6 failed attempts, I held each Node horizontally and kept my hand around it. Surprisingly, this procedure resulted in a virtually immediate set-up! Then I set each Node vertically & it continued to work great.
4- Only one Node can connect to the internet via ethernet. The other Nodes connect to the first Node via wireless mesh connection. I would prefer the option of connecting each Node to a wired ethernet connection. Linksys Technical Support indicated this may be added later as a software update. This would prove beneficial because the Nodes must be located fairly close together (my tests showed less than 40 feet apart at most).
CONCLUSION: My search for the "Ideal" Whole Home Wi-Fi System that consistently delivers 300 Mbps over 5,000 square feet with 90 devices ends here!! I am THRILLED with Velop & give it my highest recommendation!! It has proven to be the BEST ROUTER available for 2017!

Hi, Gadgetguy11,
We are glad to know that you are enjoying the performance of our Velop product. The IP address of the node can be changed and we would love to have one of our Escalation Engineers walk you through the process. As for the IPv6 connection, it should be able to pass-through and work as long as proper configuration is set on the modem.
We'd also like to take this chance to know the error messages you've noticed during the setup process so that we can figure out which part needs improvement. Please do email us at [email protected] with your phone number and the link to this post for our reference or call us anytime at 800-986-0518.
