Customers are saying

Customers love the Velop Pro 6E AXE5400 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System's extensive coverage, ease of setup, and improved performance. Many appreciate the system's strong signal and wide range, making it ideal for larger homes. However, some users have noted that the accompanying app could benefit from improvements and that connectivity issues have been experienced by a few. Overall, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs the negative comments regarding the app and occasional connectivity problems.

After experiencing some issues with wifi bandwith and frequently needing to reboot the router, I replaced an earlier VELOP system with the VELOP Pro 6E. The results have been outstanding. Download speeds increased double to triple immediately.

Don't even think about buying this for your parents or your aunt that needs a new router. The setup was really dumbed down but also didn't work. I had to jump through a bunch of trial and error to get it to finally go through the setup process. Layer on the fact that the devices take a lifetime to boot up or the app to recognize the nodes, etc. The interface is clunky. It seems to be working fine right now, but the distant devices do still seem to have an issue with drops. I'll keep monitoring the situation, but this might need to be returned for something else.

Good kit with some frustration mixed in

I recently upgraded to this Velop Pro system recently replacing my old MX5300 Velop system also from Linksys. One disappointing aspect of this upgrade is the fact that this new mesh system is not compatible with their older mesh products. They call the previous generation stuff "intelligent mesh" and this system is a "cognitive mesh" making them incompatible. I wont spend any more time elaborating on this fact but like I said it is quite disappointing and I honestly don't see a reason why they couldn't work together for better coverage. Because I already had a Linksys system the setup was a bit frustrating, and the way linksys is forcing you to set-up the system in general is frustrating to me. They make you use a phone app to set-up, even if you go to the router gateway IP in your browser it instructs you to download the app for set-up. I had to use a different email address to get this system set-up, it didnt seem to understand that a) the old system wasn't compatible and b) i was trying to setup this new kit in place of what was already there. Once I conquered that and got the nodes connected initially I was able to log in via browser and complete some of the configuration I wanted. With linksys products these days your configuration options are fairly limited but does contain pretty much everything an average user would want. Beyond the set-up frustrations and other concerns listed above the performance of the system has been good since its been installed. Their claim of 9,000sq/ft of coverage I believe is optimistic, it may be possible in houses with a very open concept but my home built in the 80's has too many walls in place for that type of coverage to be realized. With that being said the coverage is definitely superior to the previous MX5300 system and performance in general has increased in terms of speed and reliability. This system supports wired backhaul between nodes, which is what I would recommend if you have the ability to set them up this way. That will keep all 3 channels (2.4ghz, 5ghz, and the new 6ghz channel) open for devices instead of acting as the main connection between routers. One thing of note, especially if you do configure these with wired backhaul, is that each node only has two ethernet ports, so if you have a lot of wired devices you'll need to add switches to your network or look elsewhere. If the majority of your devices are connected wirelessly then this is a great performing kit for medium to large homes. Wifi 6E allows for many more simultaneous connections over previous generation Wifi 5 devices and offers improved speed. So overall while it was a little frustrating at first the performance of this kit has met expectations, so I would recommend you consider it the next time you go to upgrade the wireless coverage in your home.

Difficult to install - needed to call Tech Support & be guided thru the process. Does not have a fire wall which is very important for internet security. Otherwise works fine. https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/linksys-velop-pro-6e-3-pack

      Hi, Rich,

The router is equipped with SPI Firewall Protection, which monitors the state of network connections passing through it. You may find this article helpful: https://www.linksys.com/support-article?articleNum=140559

Known issue with bad firmware and slow support

Initially set up these worked great! I upgraded from a wifi 5 Linksys setup that from memory worked great. After setup all devices intermittently would get pushed off network and given “Password is incorrect”, only temporary fix is to restart main router. This is from a bad firmware update, after getting dropped from multiple support calls I got a good enough representative that guided me (Someone is very comfy with computers and such) to manually update the firmware of the main router. After this only that router updated and the problem persisted. Sadly Im likely switching to eero

      Hi Jona,

Our Escalation Engineers wants to investigate this further if you grant us the opportunity. Just email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details, link to this review, and case number so we can track your records.
Meanwhile, here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve the issue:
•Forget and then reconnect to the network
•Attempt re-inputting the password without forgetting the network
•Separate the SSID and decouple the SSIDs.

Slow WiFi for a 6E mesh set up

I had a need for whole house WiFi coverage since there were dead spots all over the house using the Fios gateway router. The Linksys Velop 6E system provided coverage throughout the whole house, but could not achieve speeds above 100 mbps no matter how I placed the nodes. Exchanged for the Eero 6E and now have consist download speeds above 400 mbps. Overall disappointing that the Linksys system could not provide faster WiFi speed with my gigabit Fios service.

      Hi Drew,

Let’s make sure that the nodes are running on the latest firmware version and try to place the nodes in an open area, free from any physical obstruction such as thick walls and floor that may block its range. We can also attempt to change the wifi channel for further isolation and disable prioritization.

If the same issue persists, feel free to email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details and the link to this review as our reference. We will have one of our Escalation Engineers help modify the device setting for optimal internet functionality.

Let me preface this by saying I’m a long time Linksys customer. I’ve owned at least four Linksys routers but this is a mediocre router in every sense. Difficult to set up, horrible performance, and impossible app. The performance is so bad, i can’t even get to the app to fix things. It’s going back.

These routers are amazing. I had a regular wifi 5 router with four antennas but just could not get good coverage through out my house at all. These changed that significantly. You will not regret this purchase.

i chatted with linksys support and spoke directly to a person from the 'velop specialist team', and was told by both that this could be configured over the lan, without having to use a stupid phone app - one of the dumbest ideas in the history of networking. why should i have to use my PHONE to configure my LAN equipment. Well, you can, sort of, but boy do they make it hard. First you have to go to the default web page at 192.168.1.1. then you have to click on on the picture of the phone (!!) which does not activate the cursor as most links do, it just looks like a picture. then, in the bottom line of text, about the size of a footnote, on the far right there is a link labeled CA. You have to click that, then you can configure the thing. None of this is documented, of course. So i jumped through all of their stupid hoops, got the thing configured the way i wanted it [oh yeah - you have to do this over an ethernet cable plugged in to the device, also not documented.]. Internet access, config gui access - all looked ok. as the final configuration, i changed the dhcp pool ip address. After that, there was no longer any way to communicate with the stupid thing. Web access is lost. I used a port scanner against it an all of the http and https ports are now closed. With a real router, getting up and running takes 2 minutes. I've wasted hours on two brands of mesh crap, and both do their best to force you to use their stupid phone app. Gathering marketing data from you, obviously.

Well for me, it didn't penetrate the walls like it said it would and I have moved it just outside on the patio so we can have some Wi-Fi while we was outside enjoying the beautiful weather and it went down from 900 inside my house close to the router to only like 250 MB down really slow

(can't give zero, unfortunately). Nothing but trouble trying to upgrade my old Velop mesh network to this newer 6E system. Have spent a total of 4hrs on phone with tech support, only for the end result to be an escalation to level 2 support. They are supposed to call me back in 1-2 days. Ridiculous. What a piece of junk this system is - stay away at all costs. Anyone want to buy these off me for cheap? I throw in all the old Velop nodes I have as well. No more Linksys for me. Sorry to be so harsh, but this is my experience - hopefully you're is better.
