The WRT AC3200 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Router has amazing specifications!! Enough to tempt me from my 2) existing Apple Time Capsule 3.0TB Router / Hard Drives. I have over 95) devices connected, so the possibility of boosting speed to an even higher level than at present is appealing. I connected this router, updated firmware & set it up by the book. First observation: A lot of great whistles and bells! Every connected device is identified by name, complete with an icon for each device! Second observation: You can prioritize up to 3) devices, and even hold bandwidth for them! Third observation: Front panel display is much more intriguing than the 2+ year old Apple TC's. It is very informative. Fourth observation: USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 jack on the back is super convenient for connecting an external hard drive and a printer. Fifth observation: Many, many options available on the free Linksys Smart WiFi app! I loaded the app on 2) iPad Pro's & 1) iPhone 6S+. It is a great app, super intuitive & very flexible. BUT HOW DOES IT PERFORM??? ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!! Apple TC speed via ethernet: 301 Mbps Apple TC speed via WiFi: 245.99 Mbps at 5' from router WRT AC3200 speed via ethernet: 121.75 Mbps WRT AC3200 speed via WiFi: 49 Mbps at 5' from router Worse yet, WRT AC3200 speed dropped to 11 Mbps before disconnecting most of the 95+ devices! HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE, SPECIFICALLY? 9) Big A** Haiku Fans (substitute "ss" for the real name of the high tech fan manufacturer), their related wall switches & Haiku Lights would not connect 4) DropCam (Nest) cameras would not connect 50 feet away, a Speed Test could not get enough signal to run a test! iDevices all went offline, not enough signal to work. 59) HUE Lighting Bulbs connected to 2) Hue hubs would not operate. 4) WINK Relays went offline, and could not connect. 1) Netatmo Welcome Camera with Facial Recognition could not come online. 2) iRobot 980 Vacuums could not come online. 14) Apple Airport Express units used for sound would not connect. I called the Technical Support Line at Linksys & was helped by Jack for over an hour. We switched off 2.4, then 5, then restored to factory settings. Jack concluded this is a defective piece. Linksys Customer Service is closed on Saturdays, so I must call Monday morning to arrange for an exchange. The reason why I use 2) Apple TC3.0 Time Capsules at present is: They are at opposite ends of my 3,500 sq. ft. house. They are ethernet connected; one serves as the router; the other to extend the network. This provides the maximum bars of signal strength throughout the house. The specs of the WRT AC3200 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Router suggest it can easily outperform the older Apple routers in the area of speed. I am concerned that one device positioned at either end of my house - as limited my my ethernet connection & periphery devices - will not provide sufficient signal strength throughout the house. I am not giving up on this Wireless Router, because it has so much potential! I will attempt to swap it out with a replacement unit, and retest. I will submit an update to my test report at that time.

I replaced my failing Asus router that I purchased four years ago with this Linksys router I purchased about a month ago. unfortunately it kept randomly rebooting and crashing so it was time to move on. My old Asus supported my smart home quickly and easily but Luckily I spend enough money at BestBuy to be placed in the "BestBuy Elite" members because after almost 30 days I finally disconnected this junk and exchanged it for the NetGear Nighthawk x6. I have a "smart" home and I thought the Linksys was powerful enough to handle all my devices but boy I was WRONG. Every device had a 3-4 second delay or just not respond. For example, my Ring Doorbell. I would get notifications almost 5-10 seconds AFTER someone rang the bell or it detected movement. Even after hard rebooting this router devices would just randomly disconnect or just not respond. My Google Home couldn't access Hue Lights randomly unless I rebooted the router (Once you've been a year with smart lights and not using switches, you can never go back). My Nest Thermostat would go offline for minutes at a time. My security camera system would take forever to pull up a live feed. Finally today I boxed up this crap router. Drove to BestBuy. Exchanged it for the Netgear Router I was going to get the first time around. Plugged up the Netgear and EVERYTHING is FAST and Connections are rock solid. The sad part is that I am in the IT field (System Administrator) and even my techie/nerdy co-workers and friends were always complaining about Linksys home products and I can see why! Do yourself a flavor and don't waste your money or time on this crap product. Yes you can troubleshoot or modify the firmware to "make it work" but do you honestly want to purchase an expensive router that can't handle anything above basic tasks? If you have to "do so much" to make this router work correctly then why even sell it?!?! Only cool thing about this router was the App, that was nice at least.

Avoid this router - Very unstable

Full disclosure, I received this product from Linksys for testing. I love Linksys products. Until now, I have never had a problem. The first router that was shipped to me failed to successfully load the updated firmware during the automated setup. I completed the setup, manually updated the firmware, and everything seemed fine. Until I tried to log into the router again, and I couldn't. Then the wi-fi died. Then, even though it had a solid white Internet light, the Internet connection died. After 3 calls to customer service, they finally agreed to replace the router. When I got the new router it successfully completed the automatic setup, and everything seemed just fine. Until I couldn't log into the router. Then the wi-fi died. Then, even though it had a solid white Internet lilght, the Internet connection died. I called customer service, and they tried the same things they tried with the last router, re-install the updated firmware and reboot the router. After that everything worked fine, but you know the ending. Same thing after a while, couldn't log in, no wi-fi, then no Internet. That is when I went back to my trusty WRT1900 ACS. I've had that for 2 years, and never had a single problem. I'm going to hold on to the 3200. Maybe one day they will design firmware that works for everyone. I've very disappointed with Linksys. This product has been available for over a year now and they haven't come close to fixing the problem. From previous reviews I've read about this product (mostly from Amazon), it seems that some of them work perfectly, while others have the exact same problems that I had. If you like to gamble, order this product. If you need a nice stable router, consider the 1900 ACS.

    Too Slow (at 2.4Ghz)

Sorry, this is the same review I already posted but somehow the website didn't show as a verified purchase... hopefully Best Buy will delete the one that doesn't show I bought it. First, I bought this router because I wanted one with OpenVPN. This router might be good if you only use 5G. The devices I had that could connect to 5G would connect at or close to 100Mbps which is my internet rated speed. When using iOS, 2.4G would only do about 24Mbps; should be 50 to 65 (and is on the three other routers I hooked up). When using two desktops that only had 2G wireless connections the best I could get at anytime was 15 Mbps, most of the time it was between 1 and 5Mbps. Don't want to bore you with all the details; Bottom line is I spent 3 to 4 hours on the line with Linksys tech support making adjustments/changes with no improvement. They even had me update a firmware that the router/website didn't even acknowledge as being the latest update, and It actually made things worse. Online research showed this is not an isolated instance. One professional review even noted a slow down on the 2G band... although nothing like I had. Can't say if mine was a dud or it is a larger problem... I would like to try another given the good reviews but can't take the chance; time to cut my losses, return it and buy a different brand. IMO, if you need/want OpenVPN and all your devices use 5G, it might be worth a try.... If you need/want OpenVPN and have devices that only use 2G; think twice...... If you don't need OpenVPN there are much better products out there at a much better price; buy something else. You would think a big name like Linksys wouldn't have these issues.... but they do!

      Hi, Firedan,

Your experience caught our attention. If the WRT3200ACM is properly configured, both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands should be able to provide fast internet speeds regardless if there are multiple devices connected. We'd be glad if you will share with us your ticket number at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can investigate the workarounds provided so this won't happen again. I have three of these very expensive routers in various locations, and all of them have been nothing but trouble. In a nutshell, the wifi is COMPLETELY unreliable. It's impossible to get through a YouTube video, Amazon Prime video, or do any other kind of streaming without buffering interruptions. Each time, the device I'm using shows no wifi signal. My wifi weather station goes offline multiple times per day before coming back on for no apparent reason (the weather station manufacturer said to change channels, but that didn't make any difference). For what it's worth, I am the "go to" person among friends and neighbors for IT help, and believe me when I say I've tried EVERYTHING to get these routers to work properly. Linksys software, open source dd-wrt software, switching channels, different antennas, changing power levels, mesh network, etc., etc. As a final experiment, I swapped out all three routers with some Actiontec units I had sitting around, and guess what -- I had NONE of the problems described above. Please save yourself the agony I've been through and buy something else.

When I bought the ACM3200wrt I had done a lot of research to figure out if this router was a good purchase or not. I had seen a lot of reviews stating that the 5GHZ band was shotty at best for some people, I figured this to just be a settings issue and not the device. When I received the item it was great, well built, boots up and reboots very quickly. The App for the router was ok, I mean you could do a lot of things but the firmware in general was missing a lot of useful settings for tweaking the router. The SMB server worked awesome, I was able to wirelessly stream 4 movies from an attached HDD at once without any lag on any device. About day 4 issues started, 5ghz network kept dropping and taking longer and longer to log into. I tried tweaking the settings to see if it was a device issue on my end. Nope shortly after the 2.4ghz network started going out too. I had tried DDWRT, nope, even the DDWRT forums state it is a chipset issue, the Marvel wireless chipset has serious issues and will fail. I had returned this item and bought a TP-Link C5400, going on a week now and this item is great, I will write a review on it in about another week or so, like to give it time to allow any issues to arise.

    AC3200 2.4 GHz FAIL

I purchased an AC3200 a few weeks ago after looking at the Specs and reviews. It was easy to set up. Everything worked fine at first hooking up 14 Wi-Fi units. The 5 GHz frequency band never had many Mbps only several rooms away in our large home, no matter how I adjusted the antennas, so I just relied on the 2.4 GHz for distance. 13 days later, the 2.4 GHz band went out, so I took it back to the store, and exchanged it for another. Upon setting up the new replacement, the 5 GHz band worked, but the 2.4 GHz band would not light or transmit from the unit. I updated the firmware without any improvement. I unplugged, reset, and reflashed it back to its old firmware, and then the 2.4 GHz band worked! Well for about 30 minutes, then it went dead again. My plugged in my old router with 2.4/5 bands and it transmitted fine. I took the AC3200 unit back and exchanged it for an ASUS RT-AC3100, plugged it in, and it worked perfectly on both bands and streamed great. In fact, my signal strength and Mbps was double the Linksys unit at every distance and covered the house on both floors; at 80 feet away on the 5 GHz I got 59 Mbps (on a 64 Mbps connection!), while the Linksys could only achieve 15 Mbps at that site. No regrets looking back, internet speed, fastest ever. IMO the AC3200 is not ready for prime time.

SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND BUY A DIFFERENT ROUTER. The reason I bought the linksys wrt3200 was to replace my netgear wndr4500. When I first got the wrt3200 it worked great for about a month then nothing would connect to the wifi but my computer connected via ethernet worked fine. The wifi on my phone (note 8 & s8+) and several other devices would say "checking internet connection" then it would connect then say "internet my not be available" after 8 calls to linksys tech support 5 resets and all of the settings being changed nothing worked. Linksys finally issued a warranty exchange. I then get the new router and it is having the same problems within 30 minutes of setting the router up. I called linksys tech support and they told me to reset and change some settings and give it 4 days then call back. My wifi isn't usable nothing will connect so I called again to get told someone will be calling me within 8-24 HOURS. Long story short the wrt3200 sucks, linksys tech support sucks & I will NEVER buy another linksys product again.

I don't think I've ever written a review before; I'm hoping to save people a lot of headaches and frustration. We bought this router a few months ago and have logged more than 20 hours on the phone with Linksys and our internet provider. They keep blaming each other and coming up with excuses why it isn't working properly. You'd think you could plug it in and it would send a reliable signal through the house. There's a 99% chance someone new coming to our house won't be able to use this wifi when they try and connect. They might have a slight chance if they switch from 2 to 5 a few times and power down also. We consistently can't get our computers, televisions, xbox, phones or security system to connect. I hooked our old router up this weekend and its working perfectly. It's beyond the return period for this new Linksys router so I might take if out back and recreate the scene from Office Space where they destroy the copy machine!

Worst router I have ever had the displeasure of using. When I first purchased it over a year ago, worked fine. Then after firmware update, it would crash almost every two or three weeks. I would loose my 2.4 GHz band completely-would disappear from network list of available networks completely. I was able to revert back to old firmware once and it worked fine for a bit then it and crashed again loosing both 2.4 and 5 GHz with only Ethernet connections working. After doing factory reset, forgot to turn off firmware update and was now unable to revert back to old firmware. Now I loose my 2.4 GHz band every couple of weeks and have do factory reset every time and reconfigure router each and every time. A real pain, this was a very expensive router. Look at other reviews before you buy-I should have. Common problem with this router. Think I will off load this on Ebay and recoup some off my money. I will mention the problem I have with it. Will never buy another Linksys product again.

After 2 weeks started having intermittent connectivity. Linksys advised that there will be a new “firmware” update to fix the problem but didn’t have a time frame for the update. I returned this product. Called Linksys back & complained about this wireless router so they sent me a more expensive Wirless router at no charge. Well guess what, it was a “Lemon.” Returned it & they sent another model at no charge. After a few months I had intermittent connectivity again. I gave up and purchased a different brand - ASUS GT-AC5300. It’s awesome even though customer support is not great and they’re closed after 2PM on Saturday and all day Sunday. But hey, I guess you can’t have everything right? The AC-5300 are for gamers, it’s fast and powerful. Finally, I will never purchase a Linksys product again.

True test 4 phones on the 5g setting 2 laptops & a desktop & 1 smart Tv on the 2g wifi , this router cannot handle any strain at all. after the first 1 I purchased failed in 30 days, Linksys warranty sent a replacement providing I gave them $280 to hold until the old unit shipped back, paid $30 for expedited shipping & still had to wait 90 days for reimbursement. new router Linksys sent still cannot hold steady wifi speeds. had to purchase & run hardwires to even surf web let alone any demanding activity. Linksys customer service has been 0 help outside of many hours of my time on hold / troubleshooting / updating / rebooting etc... problems still persist. will be replacing soon w/ a generic router that my friend bought for $40 & it works great on his similar demands. distance from router is less than 10 feet straight line & still the wifi fails repeatedly. do not buy this defective model.

I was too quick to give it a good review, but Best Buy will not let me edit it. However, I see they let me write a new one. Thus the apparently duplicate review. In the old routers' (both EA and WRT) browser interface, I used to be able to check the "allow remote login" box. That allowed me to do exactly the same tasks in a browser regardless if I was at my home or overseas, on my computer or on a cell phone. (Had to do port forwarding in advance, of course). Now, that box is gone. No more remote login! I know about the "smart router" app, but I am *not* interested. I want the old functionality back. Since I do not have the time to wait for a firmware update, I will take it back, so that I get a full refund.

I've had this router 7 months. Up until the last month it has been great, in the last month however the connectivity to the internet keeps failing for all WiFi connections (not for wired connections). So begins my support saga. While Linksys support is supposed to be free for the first year, they will always try to get you to pay them. The fee is so they can connect and do the work faster by controlling your computer. The first person I was on the phone with seemed to get frustrated with me when I said no. So far they have reset my router to factory settings in the hopes that this will take care of what is clearly a hardware issue. So if you value your time and money don't buy this!

I bought this router for its robust dual-band WiFi signal, Mu-Mimo speed, and OpenWRT capabilities. What I got was a router that can't maintain a WiFi internet connection for more than eight hours. What I mean by that is my wireless device shows a good connection to my network, but cannot access the internet. Wired devices on the same router/network are fine, but each wireless device, 2.4 and 5g, cease to have WAN service until the router is reset. Then access is restored for 10 minutes to 10 hours. I have updated, downdated, reflashed firmware until the cows came home, nothing seems to fix this problem. It looks as though this is a common problem with this router, and I did not catch it in the reviews, so BEWARE!!! Avoid this device unless you are a masochist.

Wireless stops working every now and then, only way to recover is to either disable and re-enable wireless or a restart. This is painful, I have been running with WRT54GL for years and it was so stable that it went without a restart for months (a year). This one requires a restart every other day. I have tried stock firmware and DD-WRT, it made no difference. Community discussions suggest that wireless driver is the culprit. So if you are a heavy user, stay away until Linksys does something about the stability issues. I was hoping firmware update would resolve it, so held on to it. However, there is no sign of any firmware update since version 1.0, so can't even return it. Poor linksys support behind this product, another reason to stay away.

      Hi, techwizard,

The dropping connection that you're experiencing with your WRT3200ACM router might be due to misconfiguration problem or probably a corrupted firmware. If you're currently using its stock firmware, please email us the details at LinksysCares@linksys.com and we'll have one of our Escalation Engineers take care of your issue. Include your contact information and the link to this post.

    Terrible Belkin In Disguise

Router setup is Microsoft style, encouraging insecure "account creation" on some Linksys server. Difficult to find the real, traditional setup process makes a shady image right from the get go. The admin GUI is awful and lacking features of even a $40 router. The DD-WRT is Beta, that's all there is available. How can they advertise DD-WRT compatibility when all that is available is Beta? How do I explain that to a client? Clicking the "Wireless" tab under "Status" causes the device and browser to crash requiring the ridiculously long reboot time to recover, making remote management completely impossible. It is a shame what Belkin has done to our beloved WRT series router. I am taking this piece of brick back and getting an Asus.

      Hi, TechHead,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The WRT3200ACM router is open source ready for OpenWrt and DD-WRT and is made available for coders to tweak their own firmware. The "Account Creation" remains a secure service that makes it convenient for you to manage your network locally or remotely via web or mobile app. Before you consider returning the WRT3200ACM router, we would like to have one of our Escalation Engineers assist you with the traditional setup and help you optimize the router's settings to ensure that the router is working at its best. Get in touch with us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact information and the link to this review.

    Setup was a nightmare

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Linksys technical support and 2 separate support techs trying to set up bridge capabilities with my existing Comcast modem. I finally gave up and went to Best Buy to find another solution. Craig was VERY knowledgable on whole-home wifi systems, including Google Wifi, and he provided instructions on how to integrate Google Wifi with my Comcast modem. Setup with the app was a breeze, and I had 3 access points connected and up and running in 15 minutes. So far the wifi signal is strong and reliable throughout the house. I would highly recommend Google Wifi to anyone experiencing trouble with their current wifi network and looking for a simple and elegant solution.

Been using Linksys Routers for years, have the WRT1200AC and after one year it I had to reset the router every other day because of speed dropping, so I decided to go for the WRT3200ACM AC3200 MU-MIMO Gigabit Wi-Fi Router, after using it 1 day the download speed drop to .89 mbps then .2 mbps, took it back and exchange it for another one, bad right right out of the box, called Linksys and after 2 hours they decided it was bad, took it back and got my $200 back and got the Netgear R6400, works great. Oh yes, I told the tech that they need to check into this but the only thing she said "SORRY",,,no more LINKSYS

I will never buy another Linksys router again. I always used Linksys router for my home network. And although I was disappointed with the previous. I decided to buy another one. Well this one stop working after a year exactly. I have reset it, updated the firmware, rebooted it several times. I am still having issues. Linksys products have gone down. I am taking my money elsewhere. I know if I called them they will probably try to sell me another instead of replacing it, because this one is no longer under warranty. I am done!
