    Disappointed in Lockly

I purchased this for my back door. I cannot recommend this at all. First, it’s limited to Alexa and Google. It’s not Apple Home compatible. It requires a separate WiFi connector to be plugged in and then close to the lock to connect. It’s just not worth spending this type of money for a lock that has so many limitations. I ended up returning and spending the extra money to get the Visage. This proved to be a great move.

Hi, thank you for sharing your honest feedback. We’re sorry to hear this model didn’t meet your needs—especially around Apple Home compatibility and the separate WiFi connector. We’re glad to hear the Visage has been a better fit for you! If you ever need help choosing the right Lockly product in the future, we’re here for you.

This lock & their app work as if it were 2015

For a smart door lock costing nearly $300, you'd expect it to be user friendly. This is not the case. The Geek Squad reps who install these were not even sure if it was connected or setup and synced with the app when they were done. The Lockly app is also terrible. It times out constantly, and for the year being 2021, this lock and their app work as if it were the year 2015. Not worth it. I am currently looking to return this item and purchase something that is actually a "smart" product.

Love not ever having to use keys again!! A little frustrating for me to setup. You have to do it exactly right. But once you get it setup it is seamless and works great. The fingerprint reconization is not too slow. Looks sleek. Would def recommend.

I wouldn’t recommend Lockly. And to be clear, it has nothing to do with Best Buy. That part of the purchase was the best part. The Touchscreen is impossible to see in the sun. It gets really hot and even the fingerprint area doesn’t work well when the sun hits it. Lockly will send you a sun visor — or so they say (I’m still waiting) for an additional $20 and not in the color that matches my lock. So to be clear, it’s $300 for a lock that works sometimes and to make it work all the time - in theory — it’s an additional $20 and a whole lot of hoops to go through. There’s probably a better choice out there. I would hate for you to do research only to be disapponted. So hopefully this review is helpful.

We're very sorry for this issue with your lock's display screen. Our locks are weather-resistant and can be used on exterior doors as long as there is an overhang or awning. If the lock is in constant direct sunlight and heat, we recommend installing our sun visor to protect the lock's LCD display screen. If the issue persists after installing the sun visor, please reach out to us at help@lockly.com or give us a call at 669-500-8835 so we can further assist you.

With Wi-Fi and door shut option should not allow deadbolt to lock if the sensor indicates door is not closed.

I was pretty excited to get my Lockly Deadbolt; after reading about its feature set and seeing the cool fingerprint detector, I couldn't wait to install it. Unfortunately, the door that I had planned to install it on just wouldn't work for it and the only other door I had that would accept its bulk had the wrong finish on all its other hardware and would have required modifications that would prevent me from reusing my current smart lock, so I ended up installing the deadbolt on a friends door instead so I could give it a proper evaluation. Needless to say, this wasn't a good way to start. If you are seriously considering this, I would suggest researching thoroughly to make sure it will fit your door. Most modern doors should work, but again check to be sure. While it is pretty much like most smart deadbolts in that it consists of two halves that sandwich between the door with electronics and wires running between them, it doesn't really go together in an intuitive fashion and the included instructions didn't seem to help much. It was a pretty awkward bit of effort; for instance, in most deadbolts, the metal rod that actually turns the deadbolt itself mechanically is usually affixed to one side or the other. Not so in the case of the Lockly - the rod is a separate affair and has to be manually inserted in just the right way or the lock won't work at all, something that took us a few tries to get right. Simple would not be the word I would use and I'd also say that the instructions could use a bit of a rewrite here and there to eliminate some of the confusion. The unit is solidly built, but unnecessarily bulky and and unbalanced; while Lockly states that you can use the included double stick tape to hold it in place, we probably would have ended up using the extra mounting holes which would have meant my friend would be married to this lock now. (We didn't do either for obvious reasons and in the long run it was a good idea.) Once in place, it looks nice but it definitely takes up a fair bit of real estate on BOTH sides of your door and add noticeable mass when you open or close it. Once installed it is without a doubt a very secure smart lock with features not available on other smart locks. Enrolling your fingerprint was fairly easy with the downloaded app as was setting options for auto locking the door. You can also open the door if you're in bluetooth range with the big button on the home screen, though we had some issues with certain phones. Since my buddy doesn't go for smart speakers, we weren't able to test functionality however both Alexa and Google Assistant are supported. One of Lockly's most admirable features is their method of displaying the PIN code for opening the door. On most smart locks, the numbers for the PIN are static and in the same place all the time. This makes it easier for someone to look at smudges or fingerprints on the screen and narrow down the choices. Instead, Lockly randomizes the location of the numbers on the screen which makes it eventually cover the entire screen with fingerprints making it harder to guess. However PIN codes are something an owner probably wouldn't use, but a guest or other user might. And this is where Lockly's functionality takes a nosedive in my opinion. Giving out temporary codes is an unnecessarily complex affair. Lockly gives you a couple of ways to create PINs, but the preferable method is to require users to download the app, link the phone to the lock with Bluetooth, and then enter a code to gain access. This is a lot of work for a short term code user and in some of the tests we did, we couldn't even find the lock in bluetooth on two of the phones we tested. You CAN use another method where the PIN is sent via SMS to a user, but even this was overly complex - it defaults to a 10 digit code and the first time it is entered, the last four digits have to be entered two times. Don't ask me why. Even the SMS itself is a little convoluted with most of the important info like the PIN shown way at the bottom of the message instead of right up top and everything is embedded into a really long (tall?) image attachment. I guess that in a way, all of these hoops you need to jump through are supposed to equate to increased security but I feel like they come at the price of ease of use. The smart lock on my own home seems a breeze in comparison and while it may lack some of the cool features that this lock has, it also doesn't require an engineering degree to operate. And since my lock is surrounded by cameras and my home has an alarm system, I feel just as secure. It's important to note here that I am no newcomer to smart home tech and I even volunteer as a moderator on Reddit forum dedicated to home automation as well as contribute to a very popular open source smart home hub project. So if I have user issues, I can imagine the average person struggling with it. I wanted to love Lockly and I really wanted to give this a great review. But these reviews are supposed to be about honest, thoughtful appraisals of a product and I have to be straight with you; as secure and well built as this lock is, I just couldn't recommend it for the average user. As it stands, my buddy asked me to remove the lock and we put his old 'dumb' deadbolt back in place. Between the difficulties installing it, the problems for other users and the premium price, I just don't feel comfortable recommending it.
