Customers are saying
Customers are pleased with the Crayon Digital Pencil's overall performance, ease of use, connectivity, and long battery life. Many appreciate its compatibility with various iPad models and find the updated design and unique shape comfortable for extended use. However, some users have noted the lack of pressure sensitivity and the absence of a magnetic attachment feature. Despite these minor drawbacks, the pencil's fast charging speed and comfortable grip contribute to a positive user experience.

Great Apple Alternative
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Logitech Crayon Digital pencil is a good alternative to the apple pencil version. This device does not offer pressure sensitivity and isn't really made for drawing. Yes, you can do some coloring and doodling but this device is more for making marks and writing. The crayon is very light, made of silver aluminum housing and is a nice match for any apple device. It's shape is more of an oval and not round. The Crayon charges with a USB-C cord (not included) and charges relatively quickly and there are 3 led lights on the Crayon that indicate the amount of battery remaining, you cannot syn it with your ipad to see how much battery is left on the screen, which kind of stinks. It does go to sleep when not in use, but when you pick it up it wakes up again. So the choice here would be do you need the pressure sensitivity and the flawless pairing aspects of an apple pencil with an ipad? I'm not an artist and my kids mainly doodle so as of right now the crayon is perfect for me. If I was into other design and artistry on the ipad then I would go with the apple pencil, in the meantime this Logitech Crayon works perfectly for my needs.

99% Apple Pencil functionality but at 53% price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Logitech Crayon is a great alternative to the Apple Pencil. It functions and performs just as well as the Apple Pencil 2 but comes in at half the price. Since it is made with Apple Pencil technology compatibility it’s strong with most iPads and apps. The only 2 missing features you’re missing out are wireless charging and pressure sensitivity when drawing. Instead of wireless charging you get USB Type C charging and for pressure sensitivity you get tilt sensitivity for dynamic line weight. I will say that this does take some getting used to, if you’re coming from a stylus that supports pressure sensitivity. Battery life is rated at 7 hrs. Build quality is excellent and feels solid. It even survived a 4 foot drop without any blemishes. For most users the Logitech Crayon is an excellent substitute for the Apple Pencil. For digital art creators having pressure sensitivity might be well worth paying extra for the Apple Pencil. But for users like me that majority of the time is spent taking notes and occasionally drawing, the savings are well worth it in my opinion . I highly recommend the Logitech Crayon over the Apple Pencil.

Not what I thought it would be
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Logitech crayon to use with my Ipad. I didn't realize you couldn't write with it and that it made a terrible tapping noise every time it touched my IPad screen. I am planning to get an apple pencil with the silicone tips to replace it.

A worthy alternative to the Apple Pencil
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having a stylus adds an entirely new dimension to how you interact with your tablet, something that Apple finally recognized with the release of the Apple Pencil for their iPad lineup. While I’m far from being an accomplished artist (creating artwork is easily the most obvious use case for a stylus), having a stylus allows you to use the iPad as a digital notebook, taking notes in ways that a keyboard just can’t replicate. It also allows for signing documents and sending short notes that are far more personal than anything typed letters can generate. So having a stylus is quite valuable - but how does this Logitech Crayon offering compare to the official Apple Pencil? After owning both and using both, I find it a worthy competitor - and in some cases superior (and I mean “cases” quite literally there, but more on that in a bit). In use, both function the same way, and both are immediately recognized by the iPad, though you do have to unpair any existing Pencil connections to use the Crayon (takes about 5 seconds). Both write / draw on the screen well though the Crayon does seem to have a bit of a smoother action in sliding across the screen (I have a glass screen protector installed). In drawing programs, both can vary the line they create by changing the angle of the stylus. I find that the Crayon feels superior in my hand due to it’s oval shape vs the round Pencil, though that’s a matter of preference. I think the oval gives me better control on the angle of the stylus and makes it easier to write, but I could see folks preferring the more symmetrical Pencil instead. Outside of actual “use” there are more differences. The Apple Pencil (at least the 2nd gen version, which is what my 2021 iPad Pro uses) charges by magnetically attaching to the side of the iPad meaning you don’t need a cable. The Logitech Crayon charges with a USB-C port on the end, which means it DOES need a cable and charger. This actually matters less than you would think since the iPad itself uses USB-C so you’re likely to have one around AND the Logitech Crayon has an on/off switch that lets you save power when you’re not using it (the Apple Pencil has no such switch and uses its battery much faster because of that - so the Crayon doesn’t have to be charged as often). What DOES matter about it though is how you attach the stylus to the iPad. Because the Crayon is not magnetic, it doesn’t attach to the iPad itself - so unless you have a case with a “loop” for holding the stylus, you’ll have to keep it separately from the iPad (which is my note above on the right “case”). That’s the single biggest drawback - that said, I do have a case with a loop for the stylus since I don’t trust the magnetic connection to not detach when putting the iPad in my bag or whatnot, so it’s not a drawback for me. Your mileage may vary of course. So at the end of the day, the Logitech Crayon is - for me - a more comfortable version of the Apple Pencil with some tradeoffs that I think come out mostly on the plus side in my use cases. You’ll have to decide for yourself how you feel about the charging and attachment tradeoffs, but I can decidedly recommend the Crayon!

Nice Functionality, Poor Shape Design Hard to Hold
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.“Crayon” is Logitech’s alternative to the Apple Pencil, designed to work with iPads 2018 and later. The Crayon works right out of the box with your iPad, and requires no pairing at all, which eliminates the need with other generic styluses that require Bluetooth pairing. The device features an on-off switch, which allows you to conserve battery when not in use, with a 3-LED indicator that doubles as an “on” light and a battery level indicator. It recharges using a standard USB-C, which is not included, but this is being marketed directly to those who have a new iPad that already uses a USB-C cable. The touch interaction with the iPad screen is smooth and extremely responsive. There is ZERO lag between the touch interaction and the interaction occurring on screen. Lines drawn follow the pencil in human-perception real-time as if you were actually drawing on paper. Line thickness is determined by the angle the Crayon is at, but I found this highly susceptible to the application you’re drawing/writing in. Some of the cheaper “fun drawing” apps available ignored the angle of the Crayon altogether, drawing a single thickness line no matter the angle, but did respond with thickening the link with harder pressure. Illustrator DID pick up on the angle, so your results may vary using this feature. The design is both its greatest strength and greatest annoyance. The pros of the design are the metal body and single-piece design. Being metal, this enhances its ruggedness, and makes it less vulnerable to damage or cracking from dropping or being tossed in your bag. The styluses are not removable and replaceable like you’d see on something like a Wacom, meaning no stylus to fall out on you. The Crayon tip looks thick enough to survive a drop, but wasn’t interested in testing that out myself. It has a “brushed aluminum” look to it, making it attractive overall. The cons to the design are the shape of the Crayon itself. It’s oblong, resembling the shape and size of a carpenter’s pencil, presumably done to keep it from rolling off your desk when you put it down. While I appreciate that, it makes it unwieldy to hold. If you hold it too loosely, if wants to rotate around between your fingers, requiring you to hold it much tighter. It’s just not an ergonomic design for using for long periods of time writing or drawing. Likewise, since it’s a unique shape, it doesn’t fit in the Pencil slot on most cases. The only case that will accommodate this are the cases Logitech sells. So instead of being able to put the Crayon in the case and carry everything as one unit, I ended up leaving it in the box and carrying that in my bag to protect it. Overall, it’s a decent iPad stylus for about half the price of Apple’s Pencil, so at the price point, it’s a good deal. I like the USB charging and ability to turn it off when not in use, but the size and shape of it made it awkward and uncomfortable to use over long periods of time. And the inability to stow it away in my case was also a frustration.

A great iPad writing utensil with some downsides
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever using Apple 3rd party accessories you have to accept there are some features that just won’t be supported. Let start with that. No, this won’t stick magnetically to the side of your iPad. No, this won’t charge while magnetically sticking to the side of your iPad. Still, as a writing utensil. The Logitech Crayon is a pretty solid writing utensil. First of all, the Logitech Crayon automatically works with your iPad…if you don’t already have another writing utensil synced with the device. I spent a decent amount of time wondering why the crayon didn’t automatically work with my iPad as advertised before realizing…remove my other one. Once they was removed, BAM it worked! The Crayon can be turned off , which is good considering it can’t be charged when connected to your iPad. This saves battery life, which, shouldn’t be too much of a concern as the battery life on the Crayon is solid. Writing with it, I couldn’t tell the difference between this wiring utensil and my Apple one. That’s a positive and a negative. A positive because it works just like the other utensils. A negative because you don’t notice big changes that makes it seem worth forgoing the Apple exclusive features. All in all, if you can get past the Apple specific feature that come with Apple brand accessories, this is a great writing utensil.

Nice alternative to official pencil
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a more affordable alternative to an apple pencil for your artistic needs, this is definitely a solid purchase. It feels and writes nearly identical to the real thing, and I do like how you are able to change the thickness of your lines by changing the angle the tip is on the screen. It's been a while since I've had the apple pencil but I recall you were able to swipe down for notifications or swipe for control center, unfortunately you aren't able to do this with the logitech crayon. Or at least you aren't able to on my 6th gen iPad mini. I could be misremembering this ability on the iPad pro with the first gen pencil, so no points off for that as the real thing might not be able to do it either. The on/off switch is easy to toggle, and it pairs nearly instantly the first time turning it on. Charging it is simple especially because it uses USB-C just as most new iPads do, so one less cable to carry along. Although you have to remember to charge another device so that kinda stinks, but it's easy to do. Plus the charge lasts a good amount of time so it isn't really a draw back. Really the biggest downside, is that there isn't an easy way to store it when not in use. The 2nd gen apple pencil will store magnetically to the side of your 2018+ iPad, not the case here. You either need to remember where you set it down last, or buy a folio that has pencil storage. At least it's flat so it won't roll away when you put it down. All in, it's half the price (or nearly) of the 2nd gen apple pencil, with nearly all of the same features. You just need to determine if the magnetic storage (and charging) of the 2nd gen is worth it over this one. You definitely aren't giving up any usability going with the Logitech, they're nearly identical otherwise.

Great alternative at a great price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So one may wonder why buy this instead of the official one put out by the maker of the iPad? Well, few reasons: (1) Price, (2) compatibility and (3) less confusion. I'll address these one by one. First, this is cheaper than the official versions. Yes, the official ones have some features that you don't get in this one, but you'll have to decide whether paying extra for those features are worth it. Next, reasons (2) and (3) kind of go hand in hand. What I mean is that this is basically compatible with any iPad that has a USB-C port, which I believe means any iPad released in or after 2018. So, you don't have to try and figure out whether this will work with your iPad or not - if your iPad was released in 2018 or later, this will work. This segues into reason #3 - regarding confusion...if you buy the real, official Pencil, you have to first figure out which one to get (1st or 2nd generation) because the 1st gen will only work with certain models and 2nd gen will only work with certain models. To make things even more confusing, an iPad model that was just released only works with the 7 year old 1st gen Pencil. That just seems so counter-intuitive to me! Anyway, you may ask if I like this so much, why only 4 stars? Well, talking about counter-intuitive, I believe the power switch on this doesn't make sense...and I still have to 'think' about it each time I turn it on/off. Does no color mean it's on and the red color mean it's off? Or vice versa? And, why red? Why not a simple green to indicate on and no color to indicate off? I just don't understand that design decision.
