    Loving it!!!

I've been playing with the idea of a Harmony hub for a long time. I already have a 650 and an ultimate and when my 650 ended up in the wash with our comforter I decided to bite the bullet and get the smart control. I'm still playing around with it but programming activities wirelessly from you phone is WAY more convenient than plugging your Harmony into a computer to make changes. PS4 control is a great plus and this package gives the addition of a physical remote as well so all in all I'm very pleased so far. There's a bit of initial setup involved but it's very easy if you can follow instructions the app will walk you through all of it. Must buy for those of us that use our game consoles as entertainment hubs as well.

    Primary Goal Achieved - Amazon & Sonos - ???

    Posted .

Smart Control does a great job in reducing all of the remotes from my system down to two...the Smart Control and the remote to my Apple TV. Smart Control controls TV, FIOS box, HDMI switch and Apple TV. Still need Apple TV remote to switch between programs and play/pause once Smart Control switches from TV to Apple TV. Logitech does a fabulous job in the automatic recongnition of virtually any device ever made by having them in their vast database. Device setup and operation is pretty smooth. With that said, I am very dissatisified with this product's lack of seamless integration with the Amazon Dot. I'm constantly having to delete the Harmony skill from the Amazon configuration and then set it back up again. And even after it's set up again, operation is buggy at best only to have to delete the skill and set it back up again. Additionally, volume and play/pause (amongst other features) is not integrated with the Dot. Logitech publicly acknowledges this. Seems as though Logitech hasn't worked out all of the kinks yet and states that it works with Amazon's Echo and Dot well before the Harmony skill for Amazon's Echo/Dot was ready. Also no integration with Sonos components when trying to turn certain components on and off. I have a 5.1 channel setup with Playbar, Subwoofer and two Play 1s. Also have two Play 3s in another room and Smart Control is useless in turnng the Sonos components on and off even though Logitech indicates in its configuration that it is capable of working with Sonos. It's not. Although my main goal was to reduce the number of remotes, I also purchased this due to Logitechs's claim that it worked well with the Amazon Echo and Dot. If all you're looking to do is reduce the number of remotes, you'll be pleased. If, however, you're also looking for smooth integration with Amazon's Echo or Dot, you'll become quite frustrated and develop a love/hate relationship with the Smart Control/Harmony hub.

    Great Remote

Let me be clear. I do not understand electronics and when I see all of these devices connected to the television, wire clutter and a massive number of remotes next to this huge television, I go crazy. When we purchased our bigger television and a few components, I mentioned more remotes - ugh. The salesman showed us the Harmony. It will control multiple televisions, multiple devices and removed all of the other remotes. We can even bypass the Harmony handset and access from our iPhone. I don't understand all that it does but my I know that we are down to one remote and even I can access other entertainment devices all from one unit and no more clutter and confusion.

I really like having the RF (radio) type remote instead of the traditional infrared signal (IR). You don't have to point the remote because it operates on radio frequencies and then uses infrared senders placed in front of your devices. One of my devices did not work well with IR when you were not directly centered and within 10 feet so that situation is much better. The remote is very simple and at times you must use the mobile app in order to fix the status of devices for a given activity or access advanced features. The old Logitech Harmony remotes I've used allow you to "fix" the power/status of an activity and its devices must faster and offered on screen help. I've integrated this with an Amazon Echo and that is a nice to have, but it isn't fully functional yet and still has glitches. The three activity buttons on the remote are great, but if you have more than 3 activities, the only solution is to press and hold one of the three buttons to access the additional activity settings. This requires you to memorize that behavior and which button links to an activity. I expect this would frustrate some users. I've had to train my wife and kids on which button to press...and now they just use the Amazon Echo to change the activity (when it works). Ultimately, it is worth the asking price when on sale, and I hope that Logitech fixes some of the oddities of the system and Amazon Echo skill in the future.

The hub is capable of controlling a lot of devices and the Harmony Activities are still the best way to approach a universal remote. The downside with the hub is the physical remote is limited and doesn't have the Help feature which is important for correcting problems when the activity doesn't start correctly. The app is nice, but I miss the tactile buttons which makes it hard to operate without looking at the screen. This means you have to look at the TV to see where to navigate, then look at your phone to see where to press for up, down, left, right, then look back at your TV to make sure you're in the right spot, and back at the phone to hit OK. Harmony tries to get around this with the gestures options on the app, but it means learning the gestures. Overall, very capable if you're willing to invest some time, but frustrating for less techie users.

Great way to make dumb devices smarter

Works well as an advanced universal remote that can set different "scenes" that control your entire entertainment center at once. Even better is the Alexa integration that allows you to control everything with your voice. Even my 7 year old surround receiver is now voice enabled through this product. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is an additional, noticeable delay between pressing a button on the remote and the corresponding action taking place. It's typically not a problem until you want to skip forward several times in a movie, or move up and down several options in a menu. It's not terribly slow, but just enough to be annoying.

Awesome Remote but Annoying Set Up

    |
    Posted .

My devices are all over the place and not necessarily compatible with most universal remotes. I even tried the Harmony 650 but it didn't work for my situation. This Smart Control, however, finally got me down from 3-4 remotes to 1. Holy cow it's awesome! The only annoying this is the set up. By the way, it's best to use the mobile app. And iPads are better than cell phones because there's more room to see all the buttons. The one thing I struggled with during set up was my Amazon Firestick. I played with it for about 3 hours until I finally gave up and called tech support. Here's the amazing thing. I got through to a human within seconds. She was extremely patient, and helped me add the Firestick device over the phone. She even stayed on the line while I tested it out. I'm probably going to buy a second unit for my other room because this is definitely a great remote. Speaking of which, the actual remote is very comfortable to hold and has a rubbery back which prevents slipping out of my hands.

Great product . I am able to control all features of my tv, fire tv , cable , surround sound. Colored buttons /numpad can have functions set with the app or learn commands from other remotes. Setup was a pain but once its done it works flawlessly. This product was shipped in a white box not retail packaging . everything was new just not expected this is the reason for 4 stars. Product description didnt mention it.

I used this to replace an older Harmony remote that stopped functioning. My biggest question going in was how it would handle controlling a NVidia Shield TV which uses Bluetooth for its remote. I can happily say that this does an excellent job with the Shield. While it does take a bit of setup, it functions with all the features of the original remote except the microphone for voice searching which isn't a huge deal for me. I will be looking to get a second one for my basement TV as well.

Great remote - takes some work to get it right!

    Posted .

I like this for consolidating the many remotes I have for the Television. The negative is that the remote it is small so loosing it could be an issue! BUT no fear, my cell phone can control it as well! NOW, the system is an RF remote to an IR unit. and a small IR blaster. That iR unit or IR blaster needs line of sight to your devices. I wish the remote itself also had IR capability, but that is not necessary. Also, the IR is strong and is able to do well in a cabinet, even when line of sight does not seem possible it still seems to work so just move items around and use the IR blaster if it does not work. The real reason for the IR blaster is to set in front of the TV so it can be controlled while teh IR unit is in the cabinet. . With it being an RF it can go through a cabinet, or in my case, behind a wall and control items that are 20 feet away from my TV. That is cool! Only challenge was getting the IR back to the TV. Solved it by buying an IR extender cable on the web. With all that done, it all works and works well now.. think the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is due to my complex set up!

Great option if it meets your needs

So I'm not going to go into detail about how Logitech remotes like this work. There are many reviews that you can find to explain this, but basically you set "activities" and the remote has 3 buttons near the top that you set to control up to 6 of these "activities." Those same buttons are long-pressed to get the other 3 functions. Examples of what an activities would be include "watch roku" or "watch FIOS." You then assign the different items (e.g. TV, roku, cable box, etc.) to each acitivitiy so that the remote knows what to control when you press the corresonding acitivity button. In practice, the setup time for this can be long, but the goal is to simplify using the remote in the future. What are the pros and cons of this product? Pros - simple remote once it is setup, good apparent build quality, ease of use, nice form and ergonomics. Cons - Initial learning curve; limited to 6 activities and activities beyond 3 require long press; Only can have eight devices associated with these activities; Some changes require the computer, while others can be done with app; It is not always clear how to make certain changes in the logitech software - could be more intuitive. Overall a very good remote, but you have to be ready to give the Logitech approach an initial investment of time to learn. Also, if you have many "activities" (>6) or devices (>8) you might want to get a remote that can handle more.

I read Suoipoc's review so I decided to purchase the harmony smart control. I currently have the harmony 1100. I hated the lag, delay and the constant dead battery. I bought the 2.5 mm adapter and the Y's. took 15 min to have the hardware plugged up and the hub automatically updated the firmware once connected to my WiFi network. Since I already had a logitech account, I created a new account from my Iphone then transfered all my device settings over from my old account. Look less than a minute to do that. Total time out of the box and fully functional was less than 30 minutes. Out of all the univeral remotes I've purchased, this by far is the best. If you have some knowledge of univeral remote set up, this will be a snap. If you don't have any knowledge it'll take you a little longer to get things set up. Read Suoipoc's review, it's right on the money!

    Great universal remote!

    |
    Posted .

Having had Harmony remotes for years and my most recent 880 finally giving up the ghost, I picked this model up and i have to say i love it. First is was easy to customize for all my home theater and music system components (easier than the old Harmony); and, second even though it is focused on using your smart phone or tablet for the remote, the included remote control is PERFECT for 99% of my needs. Finally, i have a small simple remote to control everything easily. If i need to do custom configurations its really easy to go back to the iPad to use the configuration app and verify its working; but, the simple remote control is perfect for my needs. Hats off to Logictech for putting a product that is inexpensive and still does way more than their old universal remotes do and enable simple configuration. I consider it icing on the cake that i can always use my phone/tablet every once an a while but the simple included remote control does all the simple stuff. One last item, now that simple remote control also allows my spouse, children, and in-laws to manage a really complex system from a simple remote and not make me crazy with 'how do i turn on the TV?!'

    Good Product (Mostly)

This remote has eliminated most of my remote needs. It did not work well with my blue-ray player and so I just decided to just use the original remote when needed; which thankfully isn't much these days. It did not work well with the Amazon Firestick either and that is my biggest gripe with it; so I just decided to use the standalone remote when needed instead for simplicity. Wish it had backlighting for when the room is dark. But learning the remote landscape eventually helps with that issue. What it did work well enough on is my TCL Roku 4K TV and my Vizio sound bar set-up. Those are my primary items that we use reguraly and this remote works them fine. To note, my soundbar is connected via the HDMI ARC and this remote works well with that particular setup. Overall, good remote and I got a good deal on it too. If you can afford it, the next one up may be a better deal.

Powerful remote and works with Alexa

    |
    Posted .

I got this remote with the hub because Logitech had opened it up to work with Alexa. The integration is pretty good with some setup. Now I can tell my Alexa to turn on TV and the Logitech hub will turn on my TV and speakers. You can have Alexa trigger pretty much any setup you create within the Logitech app and it will even change channels to the ones you mark as favorites. The remote is ergonomically pleasing and has a number pad on it unlike a few of their other remotes. The lack of a screen doesn't bother me at all. If anything, some of the remotes rely too much on the screen at the expense of basics like the number pad. The blaster hub is pretty powerful as is the wired blaster, although it only comes with one. A second blaster would have been good. The hub itself emits IR signals and it strong enough that it will bounce off walls and back to your components depending on your setup, eye lines, etc. The wired secondary blaster is pretty strong as well although having only one means you may have to put it in an unsightly place to make sure it hits all of your components. This is tricky if you have to IR blast your TV and anything else that is not in a component rack. It can work but it may require putting the blaster further away from your components. There is no IR blaster on the remote control itself so that is not a backup option.

I bought this so I could enable voice control on my TV for cable TV, Bluray player, Amazon Fire TV, by using Alexa in conjunction with this after I sold my Xbox One w/ Kinect. It was easy to setup and works great. I have no complaints. It took a little while to set everything up but they walk you through the whole process. There are times that it doesn't work well which is why I took a star off. Also, the remote has some delay to it. I liked it so much I actually bought a second one for my parents which made their setup so much easier to control. Since they are oblivious to new technology. This allows me to not get calls all the time saying something isn't working since now all they have to do is press a button and it does everything for them.

    Best remote ever!

    Posted .

I was extremely surprised how well this remote works! I used a less expensive Logitech remote before and it worked most of the time. Sometimes something would turn on and I’d have to use the remote to manually turn on my sound bar or something else. I originally purchased the Harmony remote without the Smart Hub on a Black Friday sale. It was an awesome remote! But I decided to switch it out for this Smart Hub. The remote isn’t as fancy without the touch screen but I like it because it’s a simple easy to hold remote! Plus if you want the touch screen, you can just use your phone! The biggest reason why I bought this?! It works with my new Amazon Echo! Oh how this works so well and makes all our guests want to get one too! What I truly love about this, is that it’s very inexpensive compared to the $200+ remotes! I got this one on sale for under $100! If you have Amazon Echo or Google Home...you have to have this remote!

Somewhat finicky, but great when it works

The things I really like about this remote: - Can control television, blu-ray, netflix, etc. using Alexa - Using phone as a remote helps since we tend to lose remotes around here - IR blaster helps me keep all the components hidden. Things I don't like: - Set up was a lot more tedious than it should have been. This could be due to user error/ADHD. I'm no tech guru, but I'm not a noob either. But I didn't find the setup instructions (only on the app itself) to be very intuitive. Example: turning on Netflix (Blu-Ray, Vudu, etc.) would turn OFF the television. I finally figured out how to add some steps to resolve this, but only after some 12 letter words. - Sometimes the "turn everything off" button/command leaves my television on. Overall I'm pleased, now that I've got it working. Hence the 4 stars.

Simple Set Up & Easy to Use

    |
    Posted .

The set up was easy. Remote is compatible with all my devices, including a Roku, an Amazon FireStick, and an old Wii. Easy to use hands free when paired with Google Assistant and Amazon Echo using IFTTT app on my phone. Ability to use Harmony App to customize buttons for different devices is very handy. Also, the hub makes it unnecessary to point the remote at the device while operating. One enhancement I would suggest is larger buttons. But this wouldn't have prevented me from buying it.
