Not as good as it used to be

I have owned an M510 mouse for many years. Mine was getting...gooey. The rubber sides were just about shot. I wanted another one just like it, I had gotten many great years of service out of it. So I bought a new one. Same model, same look and feel. That is the end of what was the same. My old mouse was snappy and fast to respond. I could make any change I wanted to the buttons and speed, plus acceleration, and they all worked. It ran Logitech Set Point software. This new mouse is not recognized by Set Point. It now says I have to download Logitech Options software. 150 megs for a mouse driver? are they kidding? So I uninstall Set Point and Install Options. Sure enough it see the mouse and allows me to change buttons. Tons of customization, but no acceleration setting. OK so I have to get used to losing the acceleration, maybe an update will put it back at some time. But then I notice all the customized buttons have lag in them. You cant just click the button and have it work. You have to wait for something to happen. I really thought the days of having wireless mouse lag were long over. Not true with this new software. The new Options software is absolute junk. Slow to respond, huge installation for a mouse, and it runs something like 15 services at startup. Needless to say this mouse was on it's way back to Best Buy. I uninstalled all the bloatware software that they call Options and reinstalled my old mouse with the newest version of Set Point. Back to normal. Fast response with custom buttons and acceleration. I cleaned my old mouse and repackaged this one for return. The next morning I needed a mouse on a laptop. I grabbed the new M510 and just plugged in the USB receiver. I did no customization at all, just a normal mouse. Guess what, it's fast and responsive. On a whim I install the Options software. Slow again, and any customization slows it down even further. I uninstalled the new software on the laptop and the mouse works great again. Just no customization. I have decided to keep the mouse on the laptop. I just need a mouse there, no custom buttons. If you just need a mouse without customized buttons, this one fits your hand well (assuming you are right handed) and works well with the Windows drivers. If you want customized buttons find something else. Logitech has ruined the driver software. It is huge and adds lag to any customization, plus you cant turn on acceleration of the pointer.

It works, but that's it's only redeeming quality. Not worth the premium in price over a $7.99 cordless mouse. Using it is a real chore. I'm surprised at how clunky and unenjoyable this is to use considering this is a Logitech product. It's heavy, difficult to move (sticky) get's stuck then shoots forward. I've cleaned both bottom of house and tabletop, and it makes little difference. I much prefer trackball mice because they stay in one place and don't need to be moved too much. On the package, there is a great whoop de doo about what it can do. Setting it is impossible. I gave up. The instructions are horrible and only serve to muddy an already incomprehensible design. Why did I buy it? I didn't. I was in the hospital, and my wonderful wife who knows nothing about things like this, volunteered to pick up a mouse up for me as my trackpad was hard to use. Ironically, the trackpad worked better than this mouse. If I weren't over the two week return period because I'm in the hospital, I would return it. Not worth the money.

I read many reviews of many wireless mice and this one looked like the best fit for the bill. Unfortunately, it's too big and heavy/unbalanced despite my big hands, and it doesn't glide well on a variety of surfaces. My existing mouse isn't a mini, only just slightly smaller than an old wired mouse. It can easily be guided with my thumb and two mouse fingers, even on the microfiber couch arm on which I usually use it. Speaking of balance is somewhat of a misnomer, as to me, a mouse that's heavier toward the buttons than it is at the back makes a mouse easier to comfortably control with my fingertips. This M510 is much weightier in the back, and also has flanges/bulk/width which reduces palm/wrist contact with the surface to steady the hand while making fine movements. I wasn't expecting it to have an infrared laser, but it does have a green light on top to indicate its power state. This probably contributes to the fairly good battery life as IR lasers use less power. .All in all, perhaps for some people it's a decent mouse for the money, but unfortunately I won't be using it because I don't like it.

    Does not work properly

I bought this from BestBuy at a very good discount (more than half of its retail price) back in Nov 2012 as I need a full-size wireless mouse for my daily computing. It worked great at the beginning, but started to have intermittent scrolling problem. Mouse still work, just the scroll doesn't. I have tried the solution from Logitech's website, but it didn't solve the problem at all. The only solution was to reboot my Win 7 laptop. Anyway, the overall mouse built is great; side rubber padding, soft click. It has 2 extra buttons on the left for page up and down. I rarely use it as I find the movement (thumb) to click on them isn't that comfortable. The scroll isn't the best from Logitech; it isn't smooth like the scroll found in M325. The touch feeling of scroll wheel isn’t what you would expect from a high cost mouse… it just feel cheap. I guess the scroll feedback isn’t that good… or maybe I am being pampered with the M325 scrolling. Overall, if you are a person that does allot of scrolling, this isn’t a mouse for you… in another point; it is a good full-size mouse.

I bought the mouse to be able to use the computer through my HDTV from across the room. The range on the mouse does not allow for this by any means. Thinking it might have been the placement of the receiver getting interference, I moved it to one of the front USB ports. Even with the mouse about 3 feet away the signal is intermittent. I've given up on the thought of using it on the other side of the room, but it is unacceptable even sitting directly in front of the monitor directly above the PC. I suffered through it too long to return it, so now if I want a reliable mouse I'll either have to buy a new wireless and hope it works better or go back to my old trusty wired mouse and be tethered to the tower. Maybe it works with laptops... I might transplant the thing onto my office machine with the USB port 4 inches from where I'll be using the mouse. Good things? Plug and play works, and software easy to install to customize buttons. Bad things? No way it will work for gaming

Logitech generally has lighter more maneuverable mouse's, this one works well but is clunky and overly heavy. If you are using a corded mouse and want to change to wireless I would not recommend this one. The side buttons ride unusually high on the side of the mouse and are hard to reach when gaming. this mouse also does not shut off on its own when it is not being used so it will run all night and the batteries will last about 2 days if you don't shut it off after every session. If you can get used to it, it does work but I wouldn't rebuy this or recommend it to a friend.

The only buttons that are programmable are the scroll and forward and back buttons. Because of almost 20 years of trackball use I am having some thumb issues and do not want to use the forward and back buttons, so, the only programmable thing I can use on this mouse is the scroll button. Ergonomically that does not work for me at all. I was counting on being able to program the control key on the right button and the right click button on the scroll button because I go a lot of "ctrl clicking". I should have read the documentation better which mentions that you can program the forward and back buttons but does not say any thing about the left and right buttons. Live and learn... after a day of use it seems to be a decent mouse otherwise.

Mouse pointer hard to get right, poor ergonomics

I bought this after seeing it was a best-seller, high reviews, and only $39. However, after using a Microsoft Laser Mouse 7000 for the past year or so (which finally broke), I cannot get used to using this mouse. So, maybe it's just me. However, I've played with the speed, acceleration, smart move, etc. settings, but cannot get it to a point that I like. It remains jerky and hard to control (with the precision I'm used to, and I didn't think I was picky till now). Also, the ergonomics are not very good, but I suppose that's how it is for these smaller mice. But no matter how I hold it, it does not feel comfortable. Specifically, it doesn't rest in my palm for support. Or if I do put it on my palm, then my fingers overshoot the buttons.

The response of the mouse is comparatively poor, both for clicking and dragging. The Logitech software for linking the mouse and my Logitech wireless keyboard is also glitch-ridden. I had to use two USB ports, one for each "unifying receiver," because both the mouse and keyboard froze up when I tried to link them with a single receiver. In other words, it didn't unify them. Repeated attempts to link them were met with error messages when I tried to reset the two devices. My keyboard worked fine before I tried to link it with this mouse. I consider this a bad purchase that I regret.

I use this mouse for web design and other internet use as well as for graphic design. The scroll wheel is fine, and it has the lovely little "back and forth" buttons on the side, but the motion is slow and the sensitivity seems weak unless it's within 15-20 inches from the USB. It jumps a bit, and often needs clicked hard to respond. I've tried new batteries and a new mouse pad, but it appears to be caused by the implementation of the tiny "universal" USB connection. I only paid $10 for this mouse, so I'm going to keep it for now. It is certainly not as good as the previous model which I used for about six years without problems.

This mouse isn't too bad for general use, however , it takesd just a second to start moving when used, and doesn't have a very great range. I wanted to use it in my living room with a gaming setup, and I needed to get a usb extender to put the Bluetooth receiver closer to me. Also, Logitech doesn't tell you this, but there "unifying" receiver isn't real Bluetooth. It is a little different frequency, so your other Bluetooth devices cannot sync through the receiver. Get a Microsoft if you want a true universal blueooth receiver. My two cents :)

I purchased this to work on my laptop, which I use daily and got tired of the built on "mousepad," and wanted an easier to use mouse. I noticed very shortly after purchase that it was less responsive than I had hoped, and have often reverted to using the built in pad. I had additional issues with a wireless mouse/ keyboard set that I use for my home system, and had to replace due to a bad transmitter. I am unsure if it is a quality issue with Logitech in general, but will proably have to replace this as well. May look at other brands.

    Some Weird Acceleration Issues

Ran into some weird acceleration issues with this mouse, where for some reason the horisontal sensitivity is MUCH greater than the vertical sensitivity. Makes the mouse unpredictable and kind of unpleasant to use. This was on Windows 7, and I tried different USB ports, tried to install the official drivers & software, but nothing did the trick.

For some reason this mouse has stopped working. It comes on, but it's not being detected by computers. I suspect it's the USB receiver. The cap to the receiver came off while I was trying to pull it out of my computer. Luckily, my hands are small. Otherwise I don't think I would have ever gotten it out without tools.

I like this mouse but it seems to be very fragile and the Logitech support also is non-existent. They used to have terrific support. When this item failed after several attempts to contact support they finally said they would replace it but no replacement arrived. I then purchased a new one.

If you're looking for an average size mouse, this one may not be for you. It is fairly large for a mouse, and is a bit clunky moving around the desk. You may want to opt for the M325 which is somewhat on the small side but fits in your palm easily. Functionally, it works. Takes two batteries to operate where some mice only take one.

I like the size of this mouse and it actually works great, but after a few months of use, the left mouse button starts to register single clicks as double clicks. Seems the button gets worn down. I have another logitech mouse that does the same thing after a year of use. Maybe try another brand next time.

The mouse itself does function, but the quality is fairly poor. Its what you'd expect from a $20 mouse though I guess. I'd suggest this only if mouse quality doesn't really matter. I'd buy this for like my grandparent or someone who just bought they're first computer etc...
