    Nice Sound Quality

The x540 Logitech 5.1 System has very nice sound quality for a price point of $80 to $100. Obviously, everyone agrees on that. So, what could be improved upon (other than cord length): Overall appearance of speakers (theres no need for the all black prehistoric look, in fact the oval appearance of the 530 was slightly better than this model. Or, how about some wood like on the z-3 series? It would be nice to atleast have some options here.) Logitech does include swivel bases on this model intended for mounting on the wall, however they apparently forgot this is a surround sound system. Position of the speakers is critical if there is no calibration tool, and regretfully, the mounting technique of these speakers allows very little room for adjustment. I found 9 times out of 10 the speakers end up pointing away from you when wall mounting them. Now, this feature is not nearly as bad as the center channel speaker. After the z-640 and x-530 logitech eliminated the stand alone center for a creative, but impractial monitor-attached speaker with absolutly no ability to mount on the wall unless you get out the drill. I found this pretty dissapointing. Finally, the overall acoustic sound quality seems to have gone down from the 530 series. Summary: aside from bulky just plain ugly speakers, impractical mounting setup, and so so acoustic quality, these are good speakers for less than a $100 bucks. Just keep in mind you will need a big desk for all the speakers that you wont be mounting on the wall. A side from that, if bassy loud movies, music, and games or your thing, and you dont notice the little imperfections in sound quality, you would probably be quite happy with this system. (theres a reason why logitech makes THX certified systems, theres a difference!) Thanks for reading!

I blew my Logitech Z??? 4.1 THX bass speaker that I paid $149 7+ year ago. I loved those speakers, the sound was great. I saw that these were reviewed well so decided to get them to replace the old set. The bass speaker on this new is not nearly as good as the 7 year old one but it i will pass. It is about half the size and weight. The old one could pound this one can't get the low lows. The 5 sats are also not quite as good as the old ones either (wondering if I can mix my old 4 sats). The range sounds a bit higher bt they can sound tinny. Mids okay. The quality is reasonable to the price I guess. You may want to try the $199 set if you are serious about music and can spend a little more doe.

First of all, for this price the sound is amazing!!!!!! but you should be forwarned that there is a reason for the low price. The front speaker cords are about 5 feet long. The rear speaker cords were 14 feet long. Not hardly long enough to move them to a "rear" position! I had to spend an additional $50 to purchase cords to extend the original cords to a decent length. If you are looking to experience true "surround sound," prepare to have to spend at least as much as I spent for the proper placement of the speakers.
