Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the Z506 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers' sound quality, bass, and ease of use. Many also appreciate the value for the price and the ample volume. However, some customers mention that the cable lengths could be longer, and a lack of wireless functionality is a common point of feedback. A small number of users reported issues with some speakers not functioning correctly.

    Broke after a few years

I bought these speakers from Best Buy on 3/2011 and after turning them off and on again after my vacation recently, I started hearing static until the left front speaker would just go out completely. I thought it was my computer but then tried it on another computer and had the same problem. I would expect speakers that cost over $100 would last longer.

Don't waste your time buying these speakers. They are horrible. They sound very tinny and distort easily. I hooked them to my New Dell Desktop and immediately repacked them and returned. 5.1 speakers used to be the thing but these sound really bad. I had bought the 2.1 Logitech 623 a few years ago and they are much better. They cost a little more but at 300 watts, the sound quality is much better. Save yourself the headache. All the cords and everything was also a mess. I have repurchased the Logitech 623 (300 watt# 2.1 speakers from Best Buy for this new computer, well worth the extra $. Don't be fooled by 5.1 HYPE. There's a reason that a lot of the 5.1 have disappeared off the shelves of stores. I will have to say a few "Hail Marys'" after what I said while repacking these speakers for return. :(

    Atrocious - skip these speakers

These speakers sounded AMAZING for World of Warcraft...but that was about it, and only if you could tolerate the incessant buzz that started within five minutes of setting them up. (Granted, I used it on a PC. Maybe they work better on a console gaming system?) The speakers butchered certain sounds - such as pianos and marimbas - and certain playback bit rates (320 Kbps). Unless it was a piano. Then any bit rate was butchered. The first set I bought was an "Open Box" item, so I thought the buzz (and the right rear speaker not working) was because someone had broken it and then returned it. I returned that one and exchanged it for a new set of the same speakers and, while the right rear speaker now worked, the buzz was back. And the pianos were still being butchered. I even moved the subwoofer so it was away from the computer tower, the outlet, and the speakers. Nothing worked. For other computer wookies out there, yes, I did play with the advanced sound options in Windows XP, made sure 5.1 Surround Sound was selected, and restarted the computer. That did not work. I tried just standard surround sound in the advanced settings and restarted the computer again. I tried just desktop stereo. By the time I was done fiddling with computer options, I had honestly restarted my computer about eight times. Still buzzing, still distorting. The speakers were returned the next morning. Kudos to Best Buy for their customer service (which was superb) and taking the speakers back. I love Logitech but these speakers were a HUGE waste of money. Do not buy them unless the only thing you're going to do is play World of Warcraft in a small room with the sound up loud enough to straighten the fur of a wookie.

    No base whatsoever

I should have read the 1 and 2 star reviews before buying. I never would have purchased this product. I am replacing an 8 year old 4.1 creative labs system that had been great, but the volume knob had become extremely sensitive and shorted out (mind you, I paid the same price for the CL system new). So I find myself in Best Buy and see this system...The sound to begin with right after hook-up was tinny and had no depth. I played with the base level on the back of the base itself. From 0 to 10. It was as if I was only moving it from 0 to 2. I went into the "realtek HD audio manager" in the user control panel on my computer. I played with the equalizer and sound settings for a good 2 hours. No matter what I did, the base was barely a whisper. I never even got the system volume up past halfway. FYI, the other speakers are PLENTY loud at that point. Just when I thought I would get it to a level to compliment the mid and high range tones....distortion. My flatulence produce more base than this system. I am on day 4 and trying to get used to it. Not going to happen. I am taking it back and upgrading.

Good luck finding a compatible sound card

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

All the 3.5 connectors are monaural so unless your sound card has separate 3.5 mm inputs for LF, RF, LR and RR, this set is worthless! I searched for a compatible sound card online and found NONE! Waste of money unless you're CERTAIN you have that rare sound card that supports this ridiculous set up. Will be returning this tomorrow. And the salesperson, absolutely clueless and useless.

    Sounds poor.

I was optimistic with the price and quality of other Logitech products, but the sound left me wanting. I wanted the subwoofer to shake my guts. Instead, it just rattles. The other speakers are not very good quality either. The price is good, but I'd rather pay more and get a decent set of speakers. Too bad, Logitech. Your components are generally very good.

Purchased these speakers, in March had to contact the manufacturer in June because the volume suddenly stopped working. After filling out all of the technical questions and submitting proof of purchase the manufacturer sent an upgraded replacement system.

    Speakers are horrible for music

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My review will be short. Bought these from best buy for 70 bucks. You get LESS then what you pay for. Bass is OK but not great, Speakers are BIG thinking you may get some good sounds out but you wont. You play any music you get the "static" as if the music volume is too loud or to intense for the speakers to handle. ALL types of music sound bad with these speakers. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Do yourself a favor and go with he 90 dollar BOSE speakers.

    Worst speakers I've ever owned

These speakers sound bad, really bad. The sound is muffled...when you turn it loud the sound distorts. Stay away from these. I am returning mine after 3 weeks of giving them a chance to break in. I've had a previous model of logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers and I'm just wondering how can they go from such great speakers.....discontinue those and then release worst speakers for the same price. Very very disappointed.

    better options

explore other options before selecting this item. 10 hours usage and the volume knob has a short in it. After spending $4k on a custom build PC I should have extended my budget to better speakers than these. if you are okay with the volume self-adjusting at random then these are sufficient speakers for you.

Has a humming white noise when no audio coming through. It sounded pretty good in the store but at home it just sounds like boxy. I am searching for a replacement to my 10 year old Boston Acoustics set up that blew out a right channel. Don't even waste your money. This is going back !

Speaker set went whack-o after several weeks. Volume knob had no control, and one channel failed completely. Web searches show that this is a common problem with this speaker set.
