This security camera has exceeded my expectations in all areas of both ease of use and performance. We live in a very rural setting with poor internet. We put the Lorex camera in my husband's shop, which is all metal and about 40 yards away from the house where the Wi-Fi modem is.
Out of the box (which was nicely packaged), the camera was extremely easy to install and comes with a variety of ways to mount it. It pivots easily on its base - we just stand it on a windowsill in the shop. The printed directions that came in the box were clear and concise - easy to follow.
The software (Lorex Home) was extremely easy to use, with step by step instructions for finding the device and setting it up.
Once set up (which took about 5 minutes), we put it in the shop and I went back to the house, not really expecting a connection. To our surprise, not only did it work, but the picture quality (1080p-HD) was amazing. The wide angle lens lets us see most of the shop which is 60'x100'. Sometimes, depending on the conditions, I'm not able to use the Live view which is not the fault of the system but rather our sketchy internet, yet even then it does record any movement or loud sounds.
A bonus is that I can use the microphone to tell him when dinner's ready without having to walk out there. That would be my only negative comment is that I wish I could increase the Microphone volume so he could hear it over his loud music. I was even able to talk over the microphone when I was 25 miles away (through extreme hills and valleys).
We had a recorded event at 4:14 a.m. and when we looked (I had turned off notifications) it was a bug walking across the camera lens. The night vision quality was very impressive since the shop was completely dark at that time.
Overall, the entire system is very well made and well thought out. We have an Arlo security system for outside and this system exceeds that in many ways - very impressive for the price point.

Love the quality of the camera and they work great. The only thing I don’t like is that only one person can be signed onto the account at a time. Wish it could be 2 so we could both see the cameras. I did end up buying more of these they do work very well. Ok

Camera works well and I like that it can sit on a shelf or easily mounted/adjusted on a wall. The video is pretty clear even the night vision. It also can zoom when reviewing the playback which is great. It definitely an indoor cam.

I was originally going to give this camera 3 stars. As a wifi camera, it's essentially an also-ran: there are many others like it and this particular camera doesn't stand out.
My main problem is that you have to use Lorex's software to access the camera - and this includes setting up an account. There is currently no web interface or direct access to the camera's IP address.
It DOES work with Alexa, however it's not showing the proper aspect ratio on display devices.
But here's the thing: As a simple, low-cost security system, it works pretty well. You can add multiple cameras to the app and picture quality was pretty good. The one thing about this camera is that it stores audio/video data on a local microSD card that's included with the unit. I had the camera running for a few days while my family was out of town and it worked fantastically. I set up an alert zone and sensitivity and the camera alerted me when the phone rang (the answering machine light would flash). But the cat didn't trigger an alert since the zone was above floor level.
When motion was detected, I got alerts and could view them on the application's timeline. This was fantastic.
But there was a question: what if a thief noticed the camera and ran off with it - including the microSD recording everything? When I got home, I disconnected the camera and checked. The timeline video was gone since that appears to be saved to the microSD card, but the snapshots generated from detected motion remained. Not bad.
In short, the camera is rather unremarkable (although I liked the magnetic bottom), but the software really makes this setup worthwhile.

Interior security cameras are great tools to keep tabs on just about anything. You can use one to as not only a security device but you can monitor your baby's room or any child's room for that matter and maybe catch domesticated (or non) critters roaming the house.
I've been using a 720p wireless camera in my garage keeping tabs on my CNC machine, laser engraver and 3D printers. It worked okay but when using an Amazon Echo Show 5 on my desktop the video would buffer constantly and eventually time out.
Hoping to improve the performance of my system I wanted to try the new Lorex Indoor 1080p wifi camera. So far this is exceeding my expectations. Setup was mostly painless (had to abort and retry... second attempt was successful. I am not a huge fan of having to create and account to use the camera but it seems most are like that and they do try to upsell you the cloud monitoring service however I'm only interested in real time so I don't need the cloud saving of the camera videos.
Setup with Alexa was a breeze. I just had to skill link my new Lorex Home account with Alexa and I was up and running in no time. What truly impresses me that I get absolutely no buffering of my video and so far it doesn't time out in the middle of my 3D printer runs.
The camera does have a micro SD slot so if you want to save videos locally you can or you can save to cloud as previously mentioned. The app will also allow you to record audio or not, you can also do a 180 degree rotation of the image if you decide to mount the camera with base side up. The app also allows you to switch between standard definition or high definition video and you can mute the audio if you wish.
It does come with the camera, a charging adapter and a USB A to micro USB power cable. I do wish it would have had a USB C port on the camera... hey Lorex... get on board! While wireless you do still need to have a power source (no battery) so be aware that location of the camera needs to be close to an outlet (or use extension cords).
I'm extremely pleased with the performance and may pick another up for overhead mounting while using my CNC. For 3D printing I have the camera focused on the nozzle to make sure the print is going as planned.
A solid buy... going to get another! Highly recommended if you need any kind of camera for monitoring inside the house or garage.

It’s okay for the price only problem is the app makes my phone freeze at times while using it. The camera hardly sends me notifications of person detection or any notification at all for that matter. It records once a person is basically out of frame already.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS:
Packaging is very environmentally-friendly…no Styrofoam, whatsoever. For anyone who’s read my previous reviews, you know I find that to be a big ‘plus’. Like many products these days, setup is a super-simple process, done entirely through an app. Setup would have been easy, except for one major problem – upon plugging the camera in, it initially had NO power. At first, I thought the problem was with the power adapter, so I tested a different one…and, still, nothing. I was worried that my new camera was DOA, which would not have been a good sign, and would have caused this review to be VERY negative. So, I tested another wall power supply, thinking that, maybe…just maybe…I had two bad units. Unfortunately, the camera still had no power. I’m not sure why, but it finally dawned on me to try a different USB cable. I mean, why would it be the cable, right? As it turned out, it WAS the USB cable. Thankfully, I have plenty of USB cables, of different lengths, and of different connector types. After solving this “problem”, getting the camera up & running took less than two minutes.
VIDEO and AUDIO QUALITY:
Video image quality is, very much, on-par with other cameras of the same type by other manufacturers. To be completely honest, in the week I’ve been testing this, I’ve found the image quality to be no better, nor any worse, than other Wi-Fi cameras. In short, I would say that it is at least as good as others. In regards to audio quality, I will admit that I have not been able to determine…so, for the purpose of this review, I’ll just ignore the audio.
THE APP:
This is both the best, AND the worst, thing about the Lorex Smart Wi-Fi Security amera…and part of why I took a week to test it before typing my review. It is as much “fantastic” as it is “frustrating”. Like most security camera apps, you have the ability to watch a “live view”, as well as recorded video. You also have the ability to zoom in to various areas, and to enable/disable the audio. However, the Lorex Home app (available for iOS & Android) also allows you to simultaneously view 1, 4, or 9 cameras…that is, IFG you’re even able to view just one. And, herein lies the biggest problem with the app – it’s ability to consistently, and successfully, connect to your cameras…or, to be more specific, it’s ability to consistently, and successfully, display what the camera sees, or has recorded. When checking the ‘Timeline’, it would always correctly shows ‘standard’ (in blue) and ‘incident’ (in an orangish-beige)…but, actually being able to view these recordings, or even the live view, works correctly FAR less than the “Play error. Click to retry” message that would appear. In testing while at home (connected via Wi-Fi, or by LTE), I’ve walked into the room, and the app will give me a “Motion detected” notification. Also, when not at home (connecting via LTE), I’ve had my wife walk into the room, and, again, I will receive “Motion detected” notifications. However, when I attempt to view the video, more often than naught, I get that “Play error. Click to retry” message. Like I said, FRUSTRATING.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:
I am positive that the cause of the problems currently being experienced is all within the app. Once Lorex fixes this, I would probably be willing to say that this is the best 1080p Wi-Fi security camera currently available. The Lorex Home app is, truly, the heart of this “system”, as it takes all the functionality found in other cameras of this type, and adds in all the features one would expect from a stand-alone security camera system. you can simultaneously view up to 9 separate cameras. You can listen to audio from each individual camera…and, when in “live view”, you have the ability to talk to whomever is on the other end (each camera has a built-in speaker, as well as microphone). Also, just as with stand-alone security camera systems, you have the ability to designate sections within each camera’s view to include, or ignore, for ‘motion detection’. These last few features is what separates the Lorex Wi-Fi Security Camera from all the other Wi-Fi cameras currently available. Now, if they would just get the viewing problem fixed.
FINAL VERDICT:
I REALLY wanted to like the Lorex Smart Wi-Fi Security Camera…but, after a week, I’m finding it INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to do so. I don’t believe the problem is with the camera, but is with the app, which is a good thing. If the problem were with the hardware, I would have given a 1-star rating, as well as a very bad review, and a “do not buy”. But, since I am 100% certain the problem is with the app, and can be resolved, that is the reason for my 4-star review. Once Lorex fixes this problem in the app, I would probably be willing to say that this is the best 1080p Wi-Fi security camera currently available. The Lorex Home app is, truly, the heart of this “system”, as it takes all the functionality found in other cameras of this type, and adds in all the features one would expect from a stand-alone security camera system. Even with the current problem, I would still recommend the Lorex Smart Wi-Fi Security Camera, as I’m certain they will resolve the problem. the only thing I would have liked to have seen would be a resolution higher than 1080p, as everyone else is already moving up to (or has already upgraded to) 2K, and higher.

The Lorex Indoor WiFi Network Security Camera is an excellent camera from many perspectives.
Design and Look-This camera has a great modern look and is small enough to place almost anywhere.
Video Resolution and Quality-The 1080p resolution provides great quality video where every detail is shown including faces even when zooming the screen.
Night Vision-The night vision is very clear with faces easy to make out.
Field of view-Due to the wide angle lens, the field of view is really good since you can see the whole room instead of just part of it. This alleviates the need to be able to pan. You can also zoom within the image to get closeups if items or people in the image.
The included SD card is nice. It is adequate since the recordings write over the oldest ones so the card does not get full and lose recordings or events.
Person Detection-This feature works well except it does sometimes pick up my dog as a person.
Overall this is an excellent purchase if you want a stand-alone camera that dies not require a DVR or cables except a power cord.

I have no prior experience with home security cameras so don’t have anything to compare the Lorex home security camera to. However for me, it has limited usefulness.
There isn’t anything wrong with camera itself, except that it gets very hot. It has a wide field of view and can be tilted so as to focus on a precise location. It has audio, motion detection, person detection (to eliminate non-person activity) and in theory can record events for playback. It also comes with an SD card.
It took a couple of hours to set it up because of WiFi connectivity issues. The on line manual states that version iOS 9.3 or later is required and I have an iphone 6 – which may account for some of the problems I encountered.
Everywhere I wanted to place it was out of WiFi range. There is a nice feature in the software that will determine WiFi strength to help with placement. The maximum distance I could put it from the router was 12 feet. I initially aimed it at the front door in the default mode of motion detection on/Person detection off. Because it has a wide field of view, every time someone in the house walked into the adjacent room, my phone would bing and an event would be recorded. By the end of the day I had over 100 events to delete.
I then put it in a window and set it to motion detection on/person detection on, hoping I could see who was at the front door. In that mode it should only alert my phone when a person enters its field of view. It did a good job of eliminating non-persons but it sometimes didn't recognize a person. It alerted my phone about 90% of the time when I had someone walk by it to test it. Detection events on my phone show a still shot of a distorted, unrecognizable person just as they trigger the camera. I should be able to click on the event and see a recording of the full event, but I get a Play Error every time. Also, when using the app I constantly get an alert that I'm using cellular data when my phone shows I'm connected to WiFi.
The camera might be useful if no one was in the house. I could set the motion detector and sound on and get an alert on my phone if someone entered or exited the front door. Someone who has better WiFi range could use it to monitor for motion or sound in an area that isn’t supposed to have any motion. Someone with iOS 9.3 or later might be able to record a video of person events. Hopefully the person would be more recognizable in video than in a still shot.

I am very happy with my Lorex - Indoor 1080p Wi-Fi Network Security Camera. The product comes with everything you need in the box and the on-line setup and app worked first time out! I was able to register the device, do a firmware update and connect to my Wi-Fi without any issues. I was able to go from box to fully functioning in about 15 minutes!
The device offers high definition, wide-angle video that you can view in real time in the app AND record to an internal (provided) memory card that is expandable. This is great because it means you don't have to buy an expensive monitoring service in order to use the camera.
The body is made out of high impact plastic and can be mounted in a variety of ways. All of the hardware you need for that is included. You also get two vinyl stickers for your windows to warn the bad guys that you have video surveillance deployed.
You should be aware of a couple of things - the provided power cable is generous but still limits how far you can place the camera from an outlet. Also, if you enable the motion auto-detect capability the app can flood your phone with notifications if anything moves. This can be easily disabled but be aware that the default is to have it on.
Overall the folks at Lorex have created a very good security solution at an excellent price.
