I know Lorex has been in the surveillance business for a while, especially with their DVR based cameras. I didn’t expect them to come up with such a simple, easy, yet very effective standalone indoor camera. And it’s not just a regular camera—it’s a dual indoor camera with a lot of features. Unboxing and set up was very simple. It was almost plug and play. Plug the camera in, get the app and set it up. This is as simple as 1-2-3 to get it running. The form factor is very familiar, but it actually incorporates two cameras. It gave me the option to install inverted, such as a ceiling placement, but it was only going on my kitchen counter. Now the two cameras come in very handy because I have an open floor plan. Static stays front, 360 moving camera monitors the back. So placing the camera at the kitchen counter covers 80% of my living space, because the static camera focuses on the dining area, and hallway leading to all the rooms, while the panning camera focuses on my kitchen which is separated by two entrance doors on either end. Just with that, this is already a great camera in itself—but this is only part of what it really does. The app has so many customizations, you can actually get lost tinkering with the options. I will not even mention obvious things, like video quality (which is really good, especially the 2K) or audio volume and sirens. I won’t even dive into the basic functions like manually triggering record, or snapshots or night vision, or talking to the other person on camera, and canned responses. (By the way, there is a talk button on the camera—so easy for the woman of the house to call me and reel me in when food is ready!) So yes, video is great, audio is great. Almost every other camera has it. The real hero of the app is the well thought-out customizations for my specific use. 1) Presets. The camera can be set up to have specific position. The preset helps place the 360 camera facing a specific area. As my 360 cam is facing the kitchen, my preset is placed on one end of the door where it is more busy. Now I check the kitchen every so often, using the very responsive app d-pad, so my focus changes after use. But the preset brings the moving camera back to where I need the monitoring to be. 2) Option for tracking. The 360 cam has a movement tracker. Someone enters my door by the kitchen, walks through and exits the other door. The camera simply follows that movement, from left to right. Captures them, then goes back to my preset after chasing the activity. 3) Detection. It detects motion easily, and of course, the availability to adjust sensitivity. The specific zones. It also detects sound. This is very helpful because I set a “trap” for the kids when they go to the treats cabinet (or “the cookie jar”). It doesn’t have to keep notifying me of who’s there and when. I’m not a jail guard. But it can tell me who took snacks out of turn. So motion or sound, the 360 camera can follow where that is detected. 4) Now, on top of these detections, there is custom lighting. The camera is on default green color light for me. I wish I can turn it off, but I can’t. It is an indicator to tell that the camera in currently on. It’s not obnoxious. I just do not want the household to have a feeling of being dodgy just because there is a camera. I have schedules for it. Green on weekdays and Blue on weekends. When it detects a person, it turns yellow. When it detects an animal, it can change too. But we don’t have a pet. So it only turns yellow (by choice) when there is a person. You can mix and match with other colors. Set brightness levels. Even set modes, like party mode where the RGB colors cycle and you can choose to make it flashing/ solid --or panic mode where it flashes orange. 5) Storage and recording is easy. It stores data locally through the 32GB SD card, that it came with, but of course, I will replace it with a bigger one. The interface is so easy—it categorizes which type or detection, or recording is saved, and organized by an easy to understand calendar scrolling menu. There are so many other options in the app like closing the privacy shutter (yes it has one!) or displaying how you want to view your camera such as picture-in-picture or split monitor. Then eventually, if I add more cameras, I can arrange them in tiles. Google Assistant recognizes them too— the cameras individually! So I placed them in “separate rooms” even though the camera is situated in the big common place. Now Google Home has it lined up there and I can see them by voice command to a nest display or by button tap on the Google Home app screen, including the sirens which I can trigger. Location detection is available too, though I haven’t used it—so I can have specific monitoring rules when I am home or away. Oh lastly, I was able to run the camera on a 20000mah portable battery, since the camera is powered by USBs on a socket. The battery drain is roughly 15 minutes to a percent of battery, roughly lasting one whole day. This gives me ideas on how I can reposition “wirelessly” it when I need to on certain days. Again, this camera has so much bells, I think I even shortened some of the things I had to say about it or I might go on forever. This is definitely my newest favorite—I might have to switch my other cameras to Lorex… 😊

Video and picture quality is good. I like the camera because it is very good at detecting human and sending alert. Also, I can pan the camera to view the whole room. One other feature I find useful is the privacy option, once you enable it in the app, it will hide the main camera lens and stop all recording. It will be more convenient if it can be enabled via a button on the unit itself or via some special hand gesture you can programmed. Installing is very easy, download the app, run the app, the app will guide you with step-by-step instruction. The app will first prompt you to power up the camera and ask you to wait for the green LED band to begin flashing, once that occur, press next and it will prompt you for other info such as wifi password etc. It does seem to require you to sign up for an account before you can proceed. I have no issue getting the camera setup and ready to use. It provides two installation options, right side up mount or ceiling mount option, meaning mounting it upside down. The unit has two cameras, the one on top allows PTZ, giving you 360-degree view. The camera at the bottom is fixed but allows user to manually adjust the tilt angle. 32GB MicroSD card is included but no instruction on how to replace it. I had to go on their FAQ website to learned that the card slot as well as the reset button is assessable when you point the main lens upward. The camera is able to detect person and pets and auto tracking your pet or person's movement. It has a button to start a two way talk with the person that has the app installed on the phone. The base has a colorful LED band, can light up providing some ambient light which is very cool. While using the app, I can initiate snapshot to be taken or video to be recorded but I don't know how to view the taken snapshots or videos. It is not battery powered so must be connected to wall outlet. It does come with usb power adapter. The siren is not very loud so don't count on it to scare away buglers.

The Lorex 2K dual lens indoor pan and tilt camera is an odd looking beast; its two stacked lenses look a bit like a flattened egg. But the unique design is quite handy. Setup is very simple, although I had to reconnect to the camera’s setup network manually to complete the task. You create a Lorex account (or log into your existing one) and scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera. The setup wizard asks you about your WIFI access and whether you’ll be mounting the device from the ceiling, and if you want to use the optional Lorex cloud storage. That’s pretty much it. The unit itself contains two lenses, a fixed one on the bottom and a pivoting lens on top. Both lenses deliver clear, well-lighted images. As a 2K camera, there is some zoom pixelation when compared to a 4K camera. For indoor use, however, there is really not a lot I want to zoom in on, so 2K is perfectly acceptable. The Lorez has a lot of great features. There’s a button the camera to initiate conversations with the app, and this communication works even with the [person using the app is not at home. The image delivery and audio communication is near instantaneous, a welcome contrast to some cameras I have from other vendors. Recognition of people and animals is consistent and accurate, and the ability to automatically track movement across the field of vision. Overall, this is a great camera for indoor use. I’d highly recommend it.

The lower camera has very limited movement.

I have used Lorex cameras for past few years and am familiar with them. I have their Fusion NVR and I have their indoor pan and tilt camera. I wanted to state this, as despite my familiarity with the system and Lorex cloud app, I found it hard to use this camera effectively for any of my use case. There are two cameras, both records in 2K, HDR. The one in top can pan and tilt all the way around. The one in the bottom is more or less fixed, there is a little manual movement one can do and that is what made placing it difficult for me. In one use case, the camera will sit on a shelve mounted high on the wall and look down. The lower one towards the main door and the upper one towards a room. The upper one does the job exactly as I expect. The lower one though cannot really get the angle right no matter where I point it. This limitation of vertical movement renders the lower cam only useful for some very specific tasks. I may probably re-purpose it as a kid room camera, where the upper one follows the kid around while the lower one is fix on the bed, but I am sure I will hit the issue because of restricted motion. I would love to see a future where there is more vertical movement or the FOV is broader. I am guessing a kid room is perhaps a better use case to solve with this camera, or a place where it is not set up very high or low and you need two different angles. The multi color light and the call button seems to indicate that as well. Apart from that, general setup was fine, the light for some reason is on by default and the app does not have a one tap switch to turn it off. I had to create a rule for every day and disable the light, too much to do to turn off the light. (If someone from Lorex reads it and knows an option to disable it, please post about it). The cameras in itself are fine it is just that it is not a very accommodating dual lens setup. Make sure a device like this will work for your use case. If not, I will recommend buying the Lorex indoor pan and tilt single lens camera.

    Solid camera with dual feeds

I grabbed the lorex to keep an eye on the dog when we're not at home or whenever she decides to retreat to her favorite room. Works perfectly for that. The main gimmick here is that this is actually two cameras here, one with a fixed view and another that has remote controls via an app. I don't really need this for my own purposes, but if you wanted to place the camera more centrally you could have the fixed camera covering one direction all the time and then rotate the movable camera to ... whatever. It's definitely a useful feature, but how does it all pan out? Well the lorex dual lens is pretty great actually. The build quality seems solid without being overly bulky, but this is a fairly large device for a wifi connected camera. You'll have to take that into consideration for placement/mounting. The included cable is quite long which can help with cable routing, but mine sits on a shelf so there's a lot of bundled up cable just kind of lying there ... bummer for me. the video quality is excellent on both cameras, no complaints there. the audio quality is not terrific, but standard for these kinds of products. Performance-wise I have no complaints with the camera, however I do have an issue with the app. It's slow. Changing the direction of the camera is accomplished by way of pressing four buttons (cardinal directions) which works, but it's not great. You can tap and hold a direction to move the camera, but because of the video delay doing this makes it almost impossible get it just right. You're better off tapping a direction once which moves the camera in discrete stops. You can rapidly tap to move the camera to your desired position, and it's actually faster somehow than tapping and holding - probably because that method is so slapdash. Overall this is a really solid camera. Great performance, hampered somewhat by an underdeveloped app. The included memory card is nice. Yeah it's good.

This camera is incredible. The stationary camera paired with a PTZ camera give it versatility I didn't realize would be that handy. You can continuously monitor one location while using the PTZ to view other areas simultaneously. Switching between the two cameras is easy as you have a PIP view of both and can click to swap the main view to the camera you need. My main concern with the camera was whether the delay between capturing data and view would have big impact. There is some noticeable lag, but it's about 1s difference. So it's not too worrisome. One big feature I love about the camera is local storage. You don't have to subscribe to any service to use the camera. You can even view locally stored video while away. I tested it with the camera on my home wifi while I was on cell and I didn't have any problems connecting, viewing, or controlling the camera. The video is nice a crisp. I've had a few 2k cams the didn't do so great, but this Lorex comes out very clear. There are a few option that could be useful but I haven't needed them yet. The camera can follow a person or pet if it detects them in view. I'd rather keep them steady until I want to move the PTZ, but that opinion could change later. One neat feature is a noise alarm. It if detects a sound at a certain decible it'll send an alarm. Great for quite rooms, but not so useful with rooms with window ACs or noisy fans. There doesn't seem any Blue Iris support, or I haven't gotten it to work in the short time I got to play with BI at work. Not a big issue, but helpful if you're goal is to consolidate all your cameras into one interface. Overall it's a terrific security camera. If somehow they can implement Blue Iris support I'd swap out the cameras at work with these.

Getting two areas of coverage from a single site is a space-saving idea. Lorex offers that and more with their new vertical duplex 2K camera. Though in one body, the two lenses operate independently. The upper lens is up/down right/left movable, while the lower lens is up/down. As a result, a large area can be covered from a single spot. Security aside, if you want to monitor the kids or see what your furry friend is doing at night or when you are away, the Lorex has it covered with its 360-degree viewing field . In addition to full-circle viewing, there is a lot more to be said for the Lorex. Other features include: *Clear coverage is available day or night. Maximum clear night coverage is up to 32 feet. *There is a 2-way talk feature via a call button on the front of the camera. It is easy to locate as it is a lighted “telephone” icon. *Camera recording memory is provided by an enclosed (pre-installed!) 32GB SD card. In addition, cloud service is available for a service fee. *Connectivity is via Wi-Fi, and the Lorex is Alexa and Google Assistant compatible. *Powering the Lorex means plugging it in, and the cord plus adapter plug are provided. This is the one feature of the Lorex of which I am not fond. With battery operation, the camera could be placed anywhere you choose, not so with an outlet being needed. Other than my quirk regarding the power source, the Lorex can be of great service as a monitor and/or security camera. With the holidays almost upon us, the Lorex could be especially useful.

Having the ability to see what's going on in your home when you are away is something that is really helpful. When I got this product I was curious to see how it would interact in my home and handle streaming and capturing the live video. While I don't normally have animals in the house, it was nice to have our sons dog over to watch. I set this up in the center of the house so i could be able to pan around the house and the dog pen area. The setup was pretty quick and painless as the instructions were very well laid out through the app and made setup seamless. Took me about 10 minutes to have it up and running with a live feed in the app. The nice thing i quickly noticed is the 360 degree pan camera in 2k resolution. It moves at a pretty decent speed when you are rotating it around. Review: testing this model was a fun challenge as I had it set up so we all could check in on the dog when the sitter came over. We were in the middle of the ocean and were able to login to the app and have live video feed and check in and even communicate to the sitter if she had questions. The clarity and ease of quick real time communication was a huge win! Overall if you are looking for a high-tech fully functioning inside camera this is a sure fire pick!

Simple to Use Security Camera with Great Features

The Lorex W463AQ is a simple to use indoor security camera consisting of a wireless 2K dual-lens, pan-tilt camera with dedicated local storage. No instructions are provided in the box. All setup and operation are performed by an app downloaded to your phone from the Google Play or Apple app store. The app has many features and is easy to use once setup. To use it, you must setup a Lorex account (no cost). Initially, I had difficulty setting up the camera. You begin the setup by selecting the category of the product. The app next said to scan the code on the camera to automatically identify it and set it up. However, that kept failing and the camera was not recognized. I next resorted to trying to enter the code manually. But the code lettering was so small that I could not enter it correctly after several tries. I finally went back and changed the category of the product and the setup proceeded smoothly. The app has many options and includes the ability to use Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. I recommend the Lorex W463AQ to anyone looking for a capable and simple to use security camera that produces a very good picture and has local storage.

I have cameras all over the outside of the house, but I never really gave a lot of thought to inside the house. If someone gets inside the house, especially while I'm not around (on vacation, visiting relatives, etc), I want video proof they were inside! Our house has two entrances , both of which you can see from one central point in the house. With this camera, we can have eyes on both entrances and if the intruder has the forethought to steal the camera the video is not only stored on the SD card but has the option to be stored to the cloud as well. BONUS! So now we have evidence that the intruder came in, video of their face and video of whatever they took out of our house. Video quality is very good, both in daylight and night. The ability to pan/tilt is an added bonus as you can literally "look around" from the app into parts of the scene that weren't in frame normally. You can do this without having to touch the camera, so you could be anywhere in the world and look around the room. Great option too for checking in on your pets while you're not at home!

I’m a super paranoid person. After all the recent pandemics, economic turbulence, and political nonsense, I jumped on the opportunity to try Lorax’s new pan/tilt camera. I already have their system of outdoor cameras as well as a monitored system. This I have set up in a central part of my home. It’s also great for monitoring my two Papillons during the day, to make sure they aren’t destroying things. Mounting and setup was a cinch. It uses the same Lorex app as my outdoor system. Video quality is super sharp and the tracking is great for watching little dogs. Beyond that, it’s also super cute. Looks like a mini R2D2, so it’s not as intimidating as a red light just watching… no Space Odyssey vibes. This is a great system for a kids playroom or baby nursery if you don’t trust your babysitter 100%. The camera pans and tracks even if no one is watching, so it’s a good reminder to keep people honest. A must have device for paranoid, bordering on obsessive, people. I highly recommend this.
