BB and Geek Sq knew I needed wireless and ordered this instead so have to return it, but Lorex doesn't make a wireless doorbell. SAD! Lorex needs to get with the times, everyone else makes wireless doorbell cameras. Now I have to look at a second system. What a Mess!

Good doorbell cam for the anti-cloud crowd

This Lorex doorbell cam will complement closed-circuit systems installed in homes and businesses nicely. Its not a cloud-connected cam like those from Ring or Nest, but works in a similar way. Its able to record to a memory card and has decent night vision and fair video quality by day. The camera doesn't do well with sun glare on winter evenings where the sun is beaming into the lens. The glare makes videos almost unwatchable, and there would be no way to identify someone during the hour or two where this lighting occurs. Just silhouettes in the glare beam... The playback quality is good, but I didn't get a chance to try any "pre-recorded" messages, but this may be an interesting feature for a small business or office using this system. There was a small light emitted from the bottom of the doorbell, but I couldn't really figure out what this was for - It wasn't enough light to light up the front porch or walkway, and didn't illuminate the door or the doorbell itself, which has a backlit RING button. Not sure what this was for, save for aesthetics. All in all I would recommend to someone looking for an offline solution that didn't have a larger ecosystem to integrate with.

    Could easily be 5*'s, but...

Could easily be 5*'s, but... This doorbell camera is top notch. It's easy to install. The provided hardware was needed in my situation, and I was impressed with what they provided. The picture quality in on par with any camera out there. Picture Quality: The camera itself provides a very high quality picture whether it's night or day. The auto nigh mode works perfectly as well. Person Detection: My favorite part of this doorbell camera is the "Person Detection". I live on a busy street, and not once did I get a notification about a moving car. We also have a lot of trees, and with one of my other security systems, I would constantly be notified when a tree branch or a shadow started moving. We also tend to have a lot of nighttime cats and other critters that roam around, and again, no false alarms. I love that. Quick Responses: Another feature built in is "Quick Responses". When someone rings your doorbell, you get notified on your phone as if you're receiving a phone call. The option for quick responses is kind of buried on the screen, meaning you have to click an icon with small print, and then the quick response selections become available. In my experience, it's been easier to just answer the notification like a phone call and be done with it. It's much easier for me that way. Nightlight: There is a built in nightlight that is on the bottom of the doorbell. This can be useful in a dark area, but where I live, I have a street lamp in front of my house, and the need for is is not necessary. It can also be set to go on if a person is detected. In my situation, we also have sidewalks and a lot of foot traffic, so mine was constantly going on. I have mine set to off. Monthly Fees: NONE! This is reason enough to chose this doorbell over many others. Most of the others charge a monthly fee for extra features like people detection. App: The app is straight forward and easy to use, BUT... in may case, the geofencing option does not work. I have a Galaxy S8+, and all the other security apps that use geofencing work as they should. A few emails back and forth with support did not yield any positive results so far, and for that, I have to take away 1 star. Everything is Built-In: I really like that everything is built into the doorbell camera. This makes installation easy. The need for a "home base" is not needed because the storage is built right in. The included 32GB SD card should be more than enough in most situations, but you can easily upgrade if needed. If you made it this far, thanks for reading! Overall I like this doorbell camera, and would definitely recommend it to anyone in the market for one.

    Great Addition or Stand Alone

It seems like everyone and their sister is producing a video doorbell now, And for reasons A, B, and C theirs in the best. Well I have the fairly unique opportunity to see a LOT of video surveillance and play with different brands of camera systems. Lorex makes a great camera. Good hardware, great images. But what Lorex lacked was the "Smart" algorithms and intuitive user interfaces that competitors have. Well somewhere in the end of 2019 and early 2020, Lorex took their superior hardware, and started to pair it with some pretty good software. "Smart Motion Detection" is what they called it. At first it was a little iffy as they transitioned away from Lorex Cloud to Lorex Home. But as of this publication, it looks like Lorex has it figured out. First, this is a 2K Camera with a WIDE field of view. Most other Door Bell cams are 1080p at best. Even Lorex's first door bell camera was 1080p (AVOID IT!). But if you put this camera next to all the normal competitors, you will definitely see the difference. But video quality has always been Lorex's bread and butter. But what makes this product different? Lorex started with the important part. The reason you buy a camera of any kind. The video quality. Once they nailed this, they then integrated it into a friendly and versatile program that will meet the needs of any home. And on top of all this...they made it a one time purchase with on board storage. NO FEES! This is another reason why I love Lorex. No Fees. Even better yet...this door bell will integrate with an existing Lorex NVR if you have one already, which will greatly increase your storage capacity. Now this door bell functions like you would expect if you have any experience with other video doorbells. Someone rings the bell, notification pops up on your phone, Answer, Don't answer, its up to you. But my favorite part is that you can program custom quick responses. No more generic boring responses. MAKE IT YOURS! Personally, Im thinking of recording the scene from Home Alone when the pizza delivery guy comes. "Keep the Change!" Now there are a few downsides. This doorbell is a little bit slow. Its far from the battery powered brand name door bell that everyone knows. But its not quite as quick as my personal favorite doorbell. Also, the notification for someone at the door is the same as any other Lorex Notification. I wish there was a better thumbnail or preview available for the door bell notifications, but this is a small issue that can be resolved with an update. Ultimately, this may be my new favorite video door bell. Its a device that new the priorities and built from there. Its a device that doesnt charge you every month. Its a device with all the building blocks and then some. If you are in the market for a video door bell, give the Lorex 2K Doorbell a good long look

    Ok doorbell, iffy app

This recently added doorbell/camera pretty much completes my network of home security devices. This particular device is a nice fit for my property as it runs off of the existing doorbell wiring and uses the existing mechanical chime, which I am probably unreasonably fond of. Setup of the hardware was extremely simple and just required a small screwdriver, and should be doable by anyone familiar with lefty loosey, righty tighty. There is a receiver that needs to be attached at the chime to make that work with the button. I wish that it was thin enough to fit inside the chime cover but I think I'm the only one will notice that it's attached to the outside. As soon as I turned the circuit back on the system came to life and I started the app setup. Setup of the app was very simple once installed with an included QR code used to register and identify the device. Basic setup was simple and I got the unit running very quickly, but over a couple of days I found that I had to tweak a number of settings to really dial it in. The app is simplistic and not terrible to navigate, however it has some interface issues and limitations that I have not experienced with other security camera apps. When a motion notification pops up on the mobile device it has a multistep login process and when someone pushes the doorbell its more like receiving a facetime call. It's usable, it's just not as smooth and quick as other apps I have used. There is also a limitation that only one user can be logged in at a time which is somewhat a pain when multiple people in the home should have full access if necessary, which is the case with my other devices. In terms of the camera I would say that the fisheye effect of the lens is very aggressive. It seems like the coverage area is much larger than necessary considering you probably want to focus near the camera. This required dialing back the sensitivity to prevent false motion alarms (the default setting was so sensitive rain overnight shortly after installed it set the camera off dozens of times. The night vision lighting a EXTREMELY "lens flared" and makes viewing in total darkness very poor. I tried repositioning the camera and making sure there was nothing physically on the camera causing the effect, and I wasn't able to clear it up. In daylight operation or with the porch light the image is pretty good even at a lower resolution setting (this is a "2k" camera, but default resolution out of the box is half max). The audio component is ok but unspectacular...pretty "thin" when compared to my other similarly equipped camera. The microphone is far too sensitive at the default, and needs to be dialed way down to get a clean audio. All in all, this doorbell is ok, but has not blown me away. I can't compare it to any of the other similar systems on the market. I think one thing that might attract some is that it records locally on a micro SD card and does not require a monthly/yearly subscription. This would be the one reason I might give it a recommendation with the limitations I noted as once purchased there is no ongoing cost.

It's Okay, If You Enjoy Electrical Wiring

We live in an age of plug and play simplicity. The main issue I have with this door bell camera system is that unless you're a licensed electrician, or have a desire to experience electricity flowing through your body, then you'll probably not like this system. Thankfully, I have a friend who is an electrician and he was able to wire this up for me. Once installed you're good to go. Install some software, connect to your home network, and you're off to the races. Video quality is above average for such a device in this price range. The detection system can be a little "pro-active" but to me that is better than not. Overall, minus the setup hurdles, this is an ok camera door bell sytem.
