I am 1000% a noob with security systems but I hated this thing, ended up returning it. Main feature that I was looking for was POE Cameras and this had it. I will admit it may of been setup outside it's main use case but I'm glad I did before permanently installing it outside drilling holes in my brick house. I had set it up in my house to mainly find out about a problem pet before installing it outside but would also give me the opportunity to play with things. For 4K it looked awful, maybe I over hyped the product to myself or maybe the out of the box settings were too garbage and I don't have the knowledge/experience to really fix it (even after fiddling with it a bit) but it seemed like my parents Simplisafe looked better, even if it's just on the app. The GUI.....OMG the GUI....I felt like it was the early 2000's or something, scrubbing video was painful and as much as I appreciate a browser interface (since standing infront of my TV I had it hooked up to wasn't fun) it was even worse. I may not have a 10gig network but my desktop and switch are both gigabit, all hardwired and the playback speed was about 75% slowed down and would restart over and over (ie: start playback at 1:00PM get to maybe 1:01PM then it skips back to 1:00PM while still playing) even something as odd as being able to zoom in on the timeline with the mouse wheel on the main unit and not on the browser GUI was something I didn't understand but even if there was a reason it was still annoying Overall I was disappointed, started this review with a 2 star but after recalling my experience I can only give this 1 star for the simple fact that it DID function... I will concede that I may have also misunderstood this product being it was an in store item sold at Best Buy for any customer to walk in and buy and not a pro grade special order for your business security system. I most likely don't have the knowledge to get the most out of this system.

The Lorex 8 channel surveillance system is an amazing security system for anyone looking to get a stand-alone security system that is capable of doing just about anything you need of it. The amount of options when setting up your cameras is just astounding, you can set zones to watch, to not watch, look for faces/vehicles, watch packages, and much more, the amount of stuff that you can do with this system is just amazing. Plus it's a great-looking system that can fit into your smart home setup seamlessly. The cameras are of amazing quality with security features such as floodlights included, the image quality is outstanding at 4k and 1080 and the options for what can/can't be recorded let you set up your system the way you want. The color night vision lets you see clothing/vehicle colors if there is enough light in the area at night which is great if you need to give descriptions for any reason. It provides a clear picture even with low lighting, and if the lighting is too low for that feature the black and white night vision range is still great with up to 90 feet of range. The ability to record everything on this system and to still be able to view it over the internet using the free app makes this system much better than any monthly payment system. With this Lorex system, you have all of the functionality and convenience of a network-based security system without the additional monthly costs associated with most of them. With the ability to add a new hard drive and increase your storage on this system you don't have to worry about paying more every month to have more storage capacity. The best feature in my opinion is the ability to mix wired and wireless devices on this system and to extend its functionality beyond just cameras. You can add wireless smart home devices such as doorbell cameras, floodlights, and more to this system as well as smart sensor kits, and greatly increase the capabilities of an already amazing system. About my only complaint with this system and the cameras is that I wish it came with longer CAT5 cables to go further through the house, I didn't have any problems inside my house with the exception of one cable being just about maxed out, but depending on the size of your house there is the possibility that the included cables won't be long enough so you will have to make your own or buy longer lengths. The only thing to keep in mind with buying your own cable is that the exterior end of the included cable has a weather-proof connector that goes to the camera and you would have to buy this connector to have the same weather-proof connection if you make/buy your own cable. This is by no means a downside of this system, but it is something to keep in mind if you have a bigger property that you are running these cameras for.

First I must say installing was a easy because I have done this before. Since it's been really hot had to wait to for my attic to cool down. Word of caution to anyone using your attic space to install the camera wiring. Be careful in the heat. That being said make your runs on the areas you want to cover and plan it out so you spend less time in the attic or crawl space. The ability to have it hardwired to your network is amazing. A few pointers 1. Label wiring and location of each camera 2. You might need change location of the base so plan it as best as possible before drilling or cutting 3. Make sure what ever you use to mount tbe cameras to is a solid area that can take a bit if weight. Not that theses cameras are heavy just wind loads can cause issues. 4. Setting up the app and triggers. Like people and vehicles can be a bit more complicated. But it's worth it. I have a doorbell camera tree that goes off at the trees moving so not having false arms is nice. 5. If you live on a busy street. Aim the camera as best not to get normal traffic setting the cameras off. Remember also you might need to go uo and down a ladder a few times before it perfect. 6. Don't be afraid to seal the holes made with sealant. Prevents water and bugs from entering. I would suggest using disposable gloves makes it easier to smooth out If needed. Now onto the picture quality. Very very good. I have a super bright flood light that along with the camera makes it very easy to make out items at night. Night vision is not a setting I use. My neighbors ask why does my home look like it needs major security for. Well I like to know what's going on around my house when I'm not home. Inside and out.i have a sweet kitty so I like to check on her and it's super easy to do. I moved some camera inside my home. This made it easy to do.

    Impressive IP Camera System!

I have quite a bit of experience with installing and using several different brands of IP cameras but I have to say, this set from Lorex was by far one of the easiest, most user friendly setups I have ever experienced. I understand just how frustrating getting the IP camera network setting just right can be, however, Lorex makes the setup process a breeze as soon as you plug it in and turn it on. There screen walks you through every step, unlike a lot of other brands that have lackluster directions. I like the convenience of being able to plug the cameras directly into the NVR or being able to plug them into a POE switch elsewhere on your network. The kit comes with 4 cameras but can support up to 8 total. The cameras feel extremely well built. They are 4k, and as one might guess, the video quality is amazing. The lights on the cameras are a nice touch as they can light up a space where they are mounted and can inform an intruder that they are being watched. The cameras also support two way audio so you can communicate or sound an alarm through the cameras using the Lorex app on your smart device. While the audio could always stand to be louder, I felt that for cameras like these the audio quality and volume was decent. The NVR comes with the hard drive preinstalled in it which is nice. I have used other brands that require purchase of a separate HDD that I had to install myself. The camera system also comes with a mouse and four 100' cat5 cables to allow for installation at great distances away from the NVR. The buyer will need to supply their own 4k monitor as this set does not come with one. This system also works with Lorex Fusion which means that some Lorex devices other than cameras will work in conjunction with this camera system. I feel like you cannot go wrong purchasing this system! Great quality and value all in one box with no subscrition!

I had to set up cameras in a hurry. This package did that for me. It was pretty easy to figure out. I'm still learning, but I was able to get basic coverage of the property set up in half a day. Connecting to the web and to set up the remote monitoring on my phone were as simple as scanning a QR code. Lots of how to vids on YT. The cameras are solid. The software allows you to set zones where motion is recorded and ignored outside the zone. It sends you email alerts when someone comes in the zone, and if necessary, you can set off an alarm. The lenses are a bit fisheye, but you can still ID people who come up to the house. The remote viewing works on a phone, but not a laptop. The NVR doesn't talk to the doorbell, but the doorbell separately connects to the remote viewing software. About ten days after I set it up, I caught someone trying to get in the property. Seeing the camera (the deterrence light is a great feature) backed them off.

I am really happy with this Lorex surveillance system. My old surveillance system's hard drive was starting to go out, and rather than just replacing the hard drive, I decided that this was the perfect time to upgrade to something with 4k video quality. After coming across this Lorex system, I decided to go with it. One of the best features of this system is its compatibility with Lorex's "fusion Collection." This includes other great surveillance systems such as: wifi doorbells, floodlight, PTZ camera, outdoor wifi cameras, indoor wifi cameras, and their sensor kits. Another great feature that I always wanted in a wired surveillance system like this, and that this system has, is the two-way talk feature. The cameras work great and the video quality is far superior to my old HD system. I can actually see very clear imagery from this system. Another great deterring feature are the mini LED lights on the cameras that provide really good image quality at night. As of now, I have not had any issues with the software/app. Accessing my cameras remotely has been good so far. As with all hardwired surveillance systems, installation will take a while, so be prepared for that if you are doing a self-install. I run my wires through my attic, which made installation much easier. Once the system is wired, there are a few steps to follow to get the system connected to your internet. Overall, I am extremely happy with this Lorex surveillance system. I would highly recommend this system to anyone. It provides added protection for the the safety of my family and our home.

Finally, after my installer cancelling twice on me, I got this NVR system installed. I also have another PoE camera system from another brand, but wanted to see the features of a newer system before upgrading all of the cameras. The best thing about this system is being able to read license plate numbers and a picture crisp enough to identify people if necessary. The night vision provides exceptional night recording and vision, and the ability to go back, search, and save footage is exactly what is necessary should the footage ever need to be reviewed and shared. Setting up the alerts is detailed and lets you customize the amount of notifications so you only get the important info rather than overwhelming you so much that you go numb and don't even bother to check it eventually. I am thankful there are no monthly fees, because many other systems with the premium features included here make you subscribe to get and save what you need. The cameras and PoE switch are built with quality and appeal in mind and give me the peace of mind that it's not going to have ongoing quality control issues. No issues after 2 weeks of continuous use, and I don't anticipate any. Once you get it set up and customized to your preferences, it's very user friendly and hands off. Lorex definitely put a lot of thought and investing in a good r&d team because I haven't had a better system to date. I would definitely recommend for any homeowner and say that the cost to install if you can't do it yourself is well worth it.
