    Awesome Security System

Wow! I ordered this system from Best Buy so I could return it in the event of a DOA or I did not like it. I was concerned about all the negative reviews on the net for customer service and DOA cameras out of the box and there is nothing I hate more than mailing my stuff back with an RMA! I can say the Lorex/FLIR product AND the support team have far exceeded my expectations in every way. And I have pretty demanding expectations. The system was 100% out of the box. All cables present, all cameras worked perfectly, and the NVR unit was awesome. It is so easy to setup on the network, on your phone, and on your computer I could not believe it. My mom could set this up. Seriously. Gone are the old days of static IP and Dynamic DNS. Scan the QR code in the app and you are done. (Basically). Cameras - The camera performance is awesome. Incredible video at 2K and the night vision is good as well. When you can give it some light at night the color at night feature is un-real. I am re-doing my lighting in several areas as a result of this. Out of the box 3 of the 8 cameras are perfect color pictures at night, due to that area having good lighting of course. The camera control and settings menu is very comprehensive and easy to setup and adjust. Recorder unit - The NVR unit is awesome. Small, quiet, and provides PoE for all 8 cameras. I will have to update the hard drive to 4T or 6T to get the retention I want, but who cares. 3 years ago a system like this would have cost $3000 or more. Lorex is awesome across the board in the way the NVR works and the cloud features. Channel 1 is going up to the cloud, perfectly, without any support calls, etc. Then I can view this on my phone historically to prove this video is in the cloud. If I have the bandwidth and want to send Ch. 3, no problem. Cost is minimal and easy to setup. Playback and searching is easy and you can export out clips and pictures easily. You can even add a 2nd hard Drive for redundancy. Warranty – where can I start? So it looks like this is only a 1 year warranty, when in fact if you sign up at the Lorex site and register the unit (Which you have to do to have cameras on your phone) you get a free bump up to 2 years. Some users even get customer satisfaction surveys and that takes 3 minutes to fill out and bumps you up to 3 years, FREE! Now any manufacture standing behind the unit for 3 years out of the box has my vote day one. So I paid a few bucks and extended the warranty on the entire system for 5 years, for less than half the cost of a single camera. Awesome job Lorex! Support – Phone support is always there, I have called with 2 or 3 questions for clarification and these guys are right on it. They were able to quickly sell me the upgraded warranty and hard drive. Overall I have been very impressed with support and most people do not know this parent company is very large and makes military products. Lorex / FLIR is no joke. They seem to stand behind this product IMHO! Awesome job on the customer support LOREX! Summary – In closing I would highly recommend this unit to anyone and I am sure Lorex has a product SKU for you if you need dome cameras, bullet cams, 16 channels, or only 4. And the features and performance is exactly what I was looking for. Great Job again Lorex! -Tom -1/8/18

    Really great system

This system was really easy to setup. The 4MP camera gives you a really great picture and with the 101 degree viewing angle, its hard to beat. I installed 4 other systems before getting this one and this system put the others to shame. It has lots of settings so you can make it best fit your needs. The RapidRecap makes it to where you can see all of the days events in a short period of time, so you don't waste time between motion. If your in the market of getting a system, you will not go wrong with this one!

    Good System For Price...

While searching for a Video Surveillance system, I new I prefered a Network Video Record with a POE ports, so that I only had to worry about running a single cable from the Camera to my recorder. The 4k cameras are good quality and so far have not disappointed. Mobile app works great (FLIR Secure) and the desktop app also works as described (FLIR Client).

Lorex not as advertised + critical tech issues

    Posted .

Lorex bad reviews are correct. Lighting adjustments in Flir Lorex Software have been eliminated, which are absolutely essential. As an example, Infrared Reflecting off a white building surface shuts down the camera, with the only solution is to provide additional lighting. At night, many areas are dark, and useless when it comes to actually being able to see clearly and record an actual event where it would be useful. The color lighting absolutely does not functions as advertised, unless an additional light source is provided. Tech support, almost all tech support technicians do not know what they are doing. The only email notifications they advertise only work with Gmail. And it is impossible to have email notifications forwarded from Gmail to an email account such as Hotmail. I tried for hours, and a technician from Lorex tried for hours. The final result was it was impossible to receive forwarded email from Gmail to Hotmail. It should be possible to simply have the email notifications sent to the email account, from Lorex software that operates the cameras, directly to Hotmail. IT DOES NOT! This cannot be accomplished. At best the only worth of the Lorex NVR Surveillance system, is better than nothing. I will never purchase another Lorex product of any kind in the future. Fortunately I will have time left to return two Lorex cameras. I definitely would not recommend Lorex to anyone.

    Does not Power On

So UPS just delivered this camera system and it doesn't work. More specifically it doesn't power on in any outlet in my house. The power supple gets power and then when you turn the NVR on it makes a noise lights flash and the power supply looses power. The green light on the supply goes out. I then tried another outlet power supply green light comes on and then I hit the on switch and the power supply goes out again. I really didn't want to believe any of the bad reviews but now I have lost faith. Been on hold for an hour haven't even talked to a person yet. When on line and registered the products warranty and submitted a defective product replacement. Pending that experience I will update this review.

    Stay Away

Stay away from this product and the Lorex brand. I purchased my system and had it shipped to my local Best Buy for pickup, which is the only thing that has gone right so far. I took the system home and set it up in my living room to make sure it worked the way it was intended before running cables all over my house. It turns out the system came with a defective power supply and nothing would power on. Lorex customer support is virtually useless and non existent. I filled out a half dozen forms to get a new power supply under warranty. Four days later, they finally agreed to give me a new power supply once they process my RMA in 10-14 business days (2-3 weeks before they even ship it)! So in total, my system will have been sitting around for about a month before I will actually be able to turn it on (if they send a working component). Save yourself the headache and do not buy from Lorex.
