The top half holds my wallet, phone, extra batteries, granola bars, a bag of sunscreen, small first aid kit, and still leaves room for more. I've used this with both a canon 7D and (separately) 6D mk ii with grip and tamron 100-400 (and also a 70-200 2.8 on the body) attached. I've also been able to place an unattached telephoto with the body+lens and it's snug but fits.
