    Mac M1 lags a lot

The new Mac Mini M1 don’t come with more than 8 gigabytes of ram. So if your into video editing, music creation, using dj apps and visual effects this is not for you. It lags so much and you will frequently see the beach ball of death. Works great with watching videos , web browsing or other apps that uses less memory. It has connectivity issues even with the apple magic mouse and keyboard.

I’ve been an equal Mac/Windows user for the last five years. I love my MacBook Air, and I’d been interested in a Mac mini for a while but just couldn’t make the jump. In general, I find Mac products more expensive but a better deal in the long run. While it’s true you can get a practical Windows desktop for a few hundred bucks, I always found the processor speed and storage a limiting factor. Inevitably, I’d have to upgrade a hard drive or other components to achieve the performance of a Mac. I already had a nice sized HD monitor and an Apple Bluetooth mouse, so the only real cost was the mini itself. Setup was a breeze; I migrated everything from my MacBook Air in less than an hour and with iCloud storage, I have access to all files and aps, making the process as painless as possible. A nice little Logitech keyboard completed the system. The desktop space saved is awesome and my familiarity with Mac products made the learning curve pretty straightforward. My only wishes were a few additional usb or thunderbolt ports would be nice, and I’m sure I will eventually need an external hard drive if I continue with using he mini as my primary machine. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the performance so far and happy with the product.

Powerful enough for moderate content creation, and cheap enough to get into the Apple eco system. Been doing youtube and tiktok video editing with this machine and so far everything has been smooth. Runs super quiet can't even hear it running never gets hot. Runs 2 1080p monitors without hesitation and is our household workhorse. you do however need to provide your own keyboard, mouse, and monitor but if you have those already this is the perfect price to get a mac without breaking the bank. If your looking for superfast video encoding I'd suggest stepping up unified ram but if your ok with 2-4 minute render times on a 20 min 4k video then this base model is all you need.

I've been a lifelong Windows user and recently decided I wanted another desktop computer after having only used a laptop the past several years. However, I didn't want anything that was too big as most desktops are so I was intrigued when the new M1 Macs were announced and were getting a ton hype for their performance. So I decided dive right into my first Mac computer. There was somewhat of a learning curve coming from Windows. However, I have ran different Linux distros in the past, which share some similarities to Mac OS. Though I still have much to learn, my experience has been great. There's a few things I miss from Windows, but overall I'm really loving Mac OS and this little machine. The hype around these new M1 Macs were well-warranted. This thing is blazing fast and can handle almost any task thrown at it. It seems like the only time it ever has any hiccups is with a certain program that I use, which means it most likely a software issue with that program and not any problem with the Mac mini. I've had multiple videos running on it at the same time with zero stutter. You will not ever even hear the fan unless you put your ear right up to the machine. And even then, it's only a very faint sound. I only have a couple complaints about this Mac mini. The first would be the lack of ports. However, I knew exactly what I was getting when I bought it. At some point down the line, there will be a Mac mini Pro that will most likely have more ports just like the older Intel models had. I simply decided I didn't want to wait for it and wanted a new desktop computer now. I also wanted the 16GB Ram version, which for some reason Best Buy doesn't seem to carry. But that will also have to wait. My second complaint is that sometimes the hdmi signal seems to cut out or stutter. I've read other people complain about this issue as well. Could just be a software issue being that this version of Mac OS is still fairly new and likely to still have bugs. Aside from those 2 issues, I can't say I've had any regrets switching to a Mac. These new Apple silicon machines are really incredible and I plan to switch to a Macbook from my older Windows laptop down the line.

This has been a god send. It is far better than my age old iMac and helps me do my song recordings. Somehow I filled up the memory because the IOS takes up so much memory but works fine now that I moved most things to the cloud. It’s fast, efficient and doesn’t take up much space. I love the fact I can use my tv as a monitor. Love this item. Worth the money.

    Cute little box

This little box is positively amazing. I don't know what else to say about it. It's fast, it's responsive (kinda the same thing as fast, but whatevs), and, man, it just plain works. And it works well. I got this mostly as a companion device for my significantly pricier A2141 MacBook Pro, which I absolutely adore.. (I'm a grown Millenial, recently returned to college in Spring 2020, right around the time the proverbial you-know-what hit the sociological fan with coronavirus). I won't lie, I watch a lot of tech YouTubers, and seeing them gushing over the M1 chip did induce just -tinge- of jealously in me, especially after I forked over $2200 for the aforementioned A2141 model less than 2 weeks before Apple Silicon was announced. Don't get me wrong, though, my 16" MBP is still nicest computer in current repertoire (until I graduate and start raking in that good healthcare money, that is), HOWEVER, this little $699 box - I don't know what to say.. It almost has to be seen to be believed. It's as fast and responsive as anyone would expect, and it can handle dang near anything you throw at it. Believe it or not, this little puppy can GAME. Nothing that's gonna make the PS5 or Series X start sweating, btw, but it will run some modern titles at settings that are easy on the eyes with minimal slowdown. Emulation is fast and excellent, native MacOS games that normally require a half decent dedicated GPU look nice and run at more than acceptable screen res and frame rates. I got this mostly because I wanted a competent little emulator box to stay stationary while I've got my MacBook Pro for traveling and heavy-lifting computing tasks, but its performance astounds me at every corner. I've long been a Galaxy fan when it comes to smartphones, I just like that you don't have to effectively jailbreak your device to side load software that isn't officially sanctioned on those devices. With my latest phone, the Galaxy Note 20, I started to realize that these modern ARM chips really do pack a punch, and that further piqued my interest concerning M1. Now that I've got one, however, the M1 Mac Mini doesn't so much pack a punch underneath its tiny hood as it does at TKO!! This little box is serious business. $700 is a steal for the all-around versatility you get in this attractive little box. I highly doubt anyone will read to the end of this gushing rant about how excellent I find this product, but if you do, there's some photos below, showing how for just under $1000, I turned a bedroom dresser/chest of drawers into a miniature workstation using the diminutive powerhouse in question, a magic keyboard w/ numpad, a Magic Mouse 2 borrowed from my A2141. Overall - love it. A must buy.

I love the simplicity of the Mac mini. I recently converted my entire office from windows to Mac and it was super easy getting everyone working efficiently. Paired with the rest of the Apple ecosystem, we couldn't be happier. I can simply airplay my screen onto our conference room tv allowing more time in the meeting without technical difficulties. I have this Mac mini paired alongside an AppleTV, MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone. I've been a Windows user since 1995 and I am a lot happier with the ecosystem and how everything just works. I can start something on my Mac mini, pick it up on my laptop, then airplay it to our conference using the iPad. I normally use my iPhone as the camera for conferences because the quality is awesome and I look horrible in low res.

A Really Good Computer for the Value!

First I have to say this is a really good computer for everyone that doesn't play video games (it has some power for it, but no major or fun games because MacOS does have a lot of them. Part of that is because old macs didn't have the power.) I am a student and I got my parents this as an upgrade for Christmas to replace their 10-year-old iMac (intel i3, 8Gb of memory, and 1TB HDD) that takes 5 minutes to open google chrome. This was much needed for them. I know a lot about computers as I have built and use my gaming computer every day; however, I am shocked at how fast this mac was when setting it up and transferring 450ish Gb of data to it. My dad was able to transfer all of his photos, docs, and apps over to this mac at 30mbps(from an external hard drive, old slow drive), then he was able to download all of his about 75 GB photos from iCloud(maxing out our 300mbps internet.) He did all of that at the same time while using the internet, and checking his bills. The old iMac can't even compare. Apple's new CPU and GPU are crazy for this computer. It's not like a $300 GPU, but it can run Minecraft really well, and even play some Black Ops 3 around 60ish fps. You could probably get more fps, but I just wanted to test it. Now, what should everyone buy? Well, I really recommend the base model for storage and RAM (Memory). Apple has done such a good job of optimizing and using the storage to add more ram if needed. It is new tech for apple; however, I haven't seen any slowdowns with it. 256GB SSD seems small, and it is, however it cost $200 dollars to go up to 512GB, which is crazy. I have two solutions for you. First, you can buy an external hdd (Hard Disk Drive). These are kind of slow, but it is really cheap as 2TB (2000Gb) of storage can go around $85-$100. Second,(the route I went with) You can buy a 1Tb (1000Gb) SSD(Solid State Drive). These are a lot smaller and a lot faster; however, the price is there to get you. To get a good SSD for 1Tb is around $75-$120, but that's for half the storage for the same price. To get the fastest storage, buy an NVME SSD, and then buy an NVME SSD external enclosure. That cost me $100ish all together during Black Friday. NOTE: Buy a good SSD or HDD or you can lose your data and never get it back, this can happen to any storage type, but it is worse for HDDs. Don't go for the cheapest NVME SSD or SSD, or your Computer will have to share its RAM(memory) with the Storage, thus taking away memory from the 8Gb. If you have an iPhone you'll love it even more because calls, texts, and facetime will show up for you on your mac. It just works well. Windows users, if you have been staying away from Apple computers for a while this is a good starting point. There will be a learning curve, but it's not that hard to learn and it has some power if you are worried about that. I wouldn't play games on it, other than Minecraft or Black Ops 3, but it can easily run Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere pro. If you plan on doing a lot of creativity I would get the 16Gb of memory so you don't ever feel limited. You shouldn't feel limited with 8Gb, but you can't add any later if you want like the old Mac mini's. I'm not a fanboy, I built my own gaming pc, but this is a really good computer for most. I highly recommend it for an upgrade, just don't forget a keyboard, monitor, mouse, speaker (it does have a small speaker built-in, but it's not that loud or good, get's the job done) and more storage. Thanks for reading my essay. jk

I was a bit hesitant of only having 8gb memory since I tend to do a lot of heavy multitasking for projects. The M1 chip blew me away though! For a base model Mac, this thing is fast and powerful. I am very pleased and impressed with its performance and will be using it for as long as I can. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a Mac without breaking the bank. As for the 256gb storage, I simply bought a 1TB external SSD for $80

Pro: From the box to running full blast was <10 minutes. Mini MAC sets a new standard for plug and play. This little machine is super fast, easy setup, and powerful. It can run 10-15 applications at once and never miss a beat. The footprint is very small - about the size of a cigar box. I should have bought this years ago. Con: There is not enough USB ports but you can add a USB Hub for <$30.

great machine, handles everything from premier video, Logic Pro x recording, making hefty graphics on photoshop, and basic renders on blender. ultra light machine, it couldn't be go to portable machine however. That's because carrying a keyboard around with me, and setting up the hdmi and power is hassle (which is pretty simple and quick) it just isn't the most efficient for my lifestyle. This computer is sitting at my office getting a good amount of use.

It's already 'old news' just how amazing the M1 Mac mini is! I'm not a gamer, nor, a 'heavy user' (multi-tasking memory-hungry programs with dual monitors, etc.), so, the base model has way more than enough memory and RAM for my needs. I will be adding an external 1TB SSD for storage going forward but that will cost a lot less than spending hundreds more on the larger memory versions. I do some basic video editing, research browsing, Youtube and movie watching (not at the same time), so I am not taxing this unit in the least! It is FAST, absolutely quiet, and small, and has handled everything that I have thrown at it respondeding 'without a hiccup'. I did experience the well-documented Bluetooth connectivity problems with my Apple Magic Mouse that many users have experienced (where the Bluetooth signal randomly drops out, which has been associated with the previous Mac mini series, as well), so, I paired my Logitek MX Master 3 mouse and have not had one connectivity problem. No lag, fully responsive. I did pick up an inexpensive wired mouse and keyboard - if I should need it - but, so far, after nearly a full month of daily use, I haven't had any connectivity issues other than the one time with the Apple Mouse. I pair an Apple Magic Keyboard and have had no signal drop-out issues. I use a Vizio 42.5" 4K TV (Thanks, Best Buy!) as my display/monitor and connect through HDMI because I found that the images, text, and visuals are the best (more 'clear', sharp, and with better color) using a good quality cable, even though I could connect wirelessly. It all just 'works'!! If you are an active, advanced gamer, a video editor running demanding software programs, or, are a very active online content creator/professional graphic artist and can afford to spend $200 more for the 16GB version, according to the experts, that would be a positive investment. But, even the tech gurus who tested this 8GB-256GB base model (expecting to be disappointed by its performance, looking to discredit Apple's benchmark test claims) couldn't beat this M1 Mac mini until they tested it against fully spec-ed out, $5,000-$10,000 systems and were blown away by how well the M1 did (often substantially out-performing the fully spec-ed out machines in a few areas of comparison - but ONLY a few!). They (the testers) only suggested upgrading if you felt that you were going to be - or, already are - a very heavy tech resource-user, needing the extra speed and storage that additional RAM and GBs may provide. Apple raised the bar VERY high with this one! I am extremely pleased with this purchase!!
