My initial impressions are exceeded above and beyond any device ever. As an educator teaching online, this device does it all! It can run online meetings, multitask, share screen, show video, etc. without any lag at all. It wipes out the competition right now and for a first generation CPU the reviews do not lie. The value of the price for the product you get is incredible. I've paired it with a 4K monitor and it is amazing. I highly recommend this computer for anybody remotely interested and of course for any Mac Mini fan out there.

I was using my MacBook Pro 13" during the entire time of pandemic working from home. I bought this last year for mobility purpose, but eventually I felt a need to use workplace setup with monitor and keyboard + mouse. I didn't wanted to use Microsoft because I like the way Apple opens your work environment in fastest manner. So I got lucky to buy Mac mini Desktop Apple M1 chip; I really love this, it is so powerful, quite and most it is much affordable (relative to other Apple products). I am very happy and strongly recommend.

This is my first Apple device. Have been a Windows person since my first computer as I believe it was a dos machine and called an 8088. A bit of a learning curve but I absolutely love this machine. It doesn't blink an eye as I put together my 4K movies with iMovie. Maybe should have purchased the one with higher memory but this machine meets and exceeds my needs for now. Fast is an understatement. Match it with a 4K monitor with a decent keyboard like a Logi MX and you will not regret your choice buying an Apple machine.

Mac Mini for the WIN

I reluctantly purchased the Mac Mini to replace my MacBook Air for home office use. I've been more than impressed with its functions and capabilities.
Its sleek design makes it easy to on the eyes, and takes up very little space. This thing is packed with speed and power. I use it mostly for work (spreadsheets, research, mapping, scheduling, and invoicing).
I purchased the 256GB SSD with 8GB of memory, and added 2 256GB thumb drives for $70. This allows me to store important work files for easy transportability at a very reasonable price.

I recently added the Mac mini Desktop with the Apple M1 chip, 8GB memory, and 256GB SSD in Silver to my home office setup, and it has been a fantastic investment. Here's a rundown of my experience with this compact yet powerful desktop computer:
Design:
The Mac mini's small form factor, measuring just 7.7" x 7.7" x 1.4", is perfect for those with limited desk space. The sleek silver finish gives it a modern and elegant look that complements any workspace. Despite its small size, the build quality is top-notch and feels solid and durable.
Performance:
The Apple M1 chip is the real game-changer here. It offers impressive performance, rivaling that of larger and more expensive desktops. The 8GB memory and 256GB SSD work seamlessly together, ensuring smooth multitasking and quick access to files and applications. The Mac mini handles everyday tasks with ease and is also capable of running more demanding software like Adobe Creative Suite or Apple's own Final Cut Pro without any hiccups.
Thermal Management:
The Mac mini's thermal management is excellent, thanks to its efficient cooling system. Even under heavy workloads, the device remains cool and quiet, which is essential for maintaining a distraction-free work environment.
Connectivity and Ports:
The Mac mini comes with a solid selection of ports, including two Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. This variety of ports allows for easy connectivity with multiple peripherals, such as external displays, storage devices, and audio equipment.
macOS:
The Mac mini comes with the latest version of macOS, which offers a clean and user-friendly interface, making it easy for both new and experienced users to navigate. The tight integration between hardware and software ensures a smooth and enjoyable computing experience.
Upgradeability:
One potential downside is the limited upgradeability, as both the memory and SSD are soldered to the motherboard. This means that users need to choose their desired configuration at the time of purchase, as upgrading later is not an option. However, for most users, the base configuration of 8GB memory and 256GB SSD should be more than adequate for everyday use.
In conclusion, the Mac mini Desktop with the Apple M1 chip, 8GB memory, and 256GB SSD in Silver is a fantastic choice for those looking for a compact yet powerful desktop computer. Its small footprint, impressive performance, and seamless integration with macOS make it an excellent option for both home and professional use. Just be sure to choose the right configuration for your needs, as upgrading later is not possible.

Was so pleased with the M1 chip when first released..I don’t use this as much as I originally did now I have the IPad Pro M1 - but the beauty and ease of this is just awesome, being able to run so many more windows extensions, it’s just so fast, and smooth.l. Everything just is so smooth. Like a warm knife through butter. If you’re looking for a nice computer, small footprint but so powerful and won’t break the bank, look no further.. it’s not a M1 Mac Pro, but this is just right for the price range,,

Apple really nailed it with the new M1 chips. Incredible performance with minimal power usage. Yes, there remain some incompatibilities with some apps that haven't yet been updated to use the M1 (and require Intel-based Macs to properly work). Otherwise, this is a great machine and a FAR better value than the outgoing Intel-based Mac mini models too.
That all said, be sure to grab the spec you need. Neither the SSD nor the RAM are upgradeable. You'll need to get the model you want as there is no upgradability here.

Pros: fast, easy to use, user friendly, works right out of the box, design looks sleek on my desk
Cons: not a lot of IO in the back (2 USB A, 2 USB C/Thunderbolt), no SD card slots for photography, no upgradable RAM, base model only has 8 GB of RAM, SSD could be larger capacity
Technical issues: my screen kept flickering every minute or so. I connected via HDMI and used multiple different HDMI cables to see if that was the issue but my screen kept flickering. It came to the point where I couldn't do much without the screen flickering and I eventually gave up and returned it

"Inexpensive" Mac for simple tasks

If you are looking for a simple, "inexpensive" Mac, this unit fits the bill. It has Apple's M1 chip, which is pretty fast at most tasks and the internal storage is fast (SSD). With that being said, 256 GB is pretty paltry for storage on a desktop unit, as is 8 GB of RAM. Keep in mind that this a a BYOD (bring your own device) unit in that you will need to provide your own monitor, keyboard, and mouse/trackpad. For simple tasks, like browsing the Internet, checking email, and working in office applications (like spreadsheets and word processors), this unit is probably all you need, though (as long as internal storage is not a necessity). There are a few USB and Thunderbolt ports, which do provided for some expandability.

I set this little guy up and bought a usb nvm switch to the same keyboard and mouse and monitor with a second windows pc. Of course I use the windows PC to game, but I have switched to the Mac for literally everything else, I bought an iPhone and inherited an Apple Watch when my wife got the newest series. The integration between all of these apple devices is insane. The user friendliness of the Mac makes it a dream to use. Copy and paste is shared between the apple devices and honestly I can't live without it. The little M1 literally blows the doors off of my internet browsing experience on my 16 core/32GB of ram intel setup. I thought the slight instant it took for the thumbnails to load on YouTube was due to the slight lag between router/computer. It turns out it was my processor. The M1 literally is so quick browsing the web almost seems like everything is preloaded. I now use it exclusively for web browsing/4k YouTube etc. Used Paypal and split a 2tb Samsung SSD up into 4 payments for photo storage. So far, my expectations have been destroyed! I am thinking about getting a second one for my wife as she is heavily invested in the apple ecosystem.

This will be the best price/performance that Apple will offer for quite some time! This machine does important tasks with urgency. For my uses, the GPU could be beefier, and sadly with no support for eGPU, it means this machine will likely last me closer to 4 years than 6…
I do run into ram issues sometimes when I’m working with heavy loads in Logic X, but importantly, nothings hangs or crashes. It will be very minor things, like a slight delay between pressing play and the track playing. That’s the only slowdown I detect though, and I’ve GAMED! Apple Arcade is a shockingly decent value add, and games like Beyond and Steel Sky and Samurai Jack make this a top-tier casual gamer’s delight.
The ability to load Mac apps has been hit or miss. It’s never the apps I want it seems! But the support is there and growing. I am fully into the Apple ecosystem and the workflows that are unlocked are amazing. Unlocking with my Apple Watch, playing audio between my HomePod and AirPods seamlessly. If a video is playing on my Mac, through my HomePod Mini, and then I put in my AirPods? Boom, it’s in my headphones with only a slight pause. Little comforts like that are all over the Apple ecosystem and make the mundane tasks so much easier. In comparison, I have PTSD from the Windows 10 audio disconnect/reconnect noises and trying to get things to work. YMMV but this machine and the broader way it works with my devices really is magical at times.
Lastly, do yourself a favor. If you get this machine, get a high refresh display and a backup drive. That will really do so much to feel the snappiness this machine offers. Plus Time Machine backups are one of those things you just set and forget. You don’t think you’ll need a backup until one day you’ll wish you had one! xD

Bought this from BB early on after seeing performance reports online. I use it to run everything from Photoshop to Final Cut Pro. Could use a smidge more storage but I didn't think the extra 200 dollars worth it. Have not compared to the 16GB memory model. I don't have a lot of FCP experience but it seems waveform updates could be a little faster. Better than my Intel based model though.
