It's rare that a product so completely satisfies.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my first laptop in 1991–an Apple PowerBook 100. I believe I've owned every significant model between that one and the 2021 MacBook Pro 14" I purchased in November, 2022. There's no detail that feels compromised. Finally, a Mac with 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe power connection, and an SDXC card slot. The keyboard and trackpad are a joy to use with my old, fat fingers. But nothing prepared me for the quality of the 14" display. You really need to see it on your desk to realize how far the technology has taken backlight performance and picture resolution. My only regret was not getting the 16" model.

Solid machine
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to upgrade from my 2013 MacBook Air (which still worked great btw), and bit the bullet and got the new Pro. This laptop is solid, the display is A1, it’s fast, quiet and probably way more than I’ll ever need - but I know it’s built to last - and will last me another decade if I take good care of it. You can’t go wrong with MacBooks. Coming from a MacBook Air, I will say the Pro is a lot heavier, and the battery life although good, isn’t as great as the Air- but I knew these things going in, and I’m very happy with my purchase. 5/5 stars.

One of the best laptops out there
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Apple may be expensive, but for good reason. Build quality, overall look, software, hardware - all of these put together make this laptop the best one I have ever purchased. On top of that, it feels like it will last me for years and years.

So good to have a 'real' MacBook again
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this when it was on sale; and I waited specifically for that, since it brings the cost to only a hundred more than the new AIR M2 once you bump that one to 16GB of memory... and for that you get a slightly bigger screen, few more GPU cores, a third thunderbolt port, and an SD card slot and HDMI out without a dongle, which matters SO much to me. It's a portable, not a dongle holder, and the MagSafe has already saved its life from a kiddo. (though the new AIRs have MagSafe also). I do plan on affixing an external SSD to the protective case I just added to it, since you can get 2TB extra for slightly more than going from 512GB-->1TB by Apple. The same price if it's on sale. I dinged it 1 star for performance because a Logic Project I'm working on from a 2020 iMac i5 runs at basically the same CPU usage. It's a real-world project, and not intended for comparing performance, so it's raw... and pretty heavy. This 8 core sits at the same CPU percentages as that 6-core (12 threads). I'm sure that there will be some cases where this wins out, but it doesn't just blow away the i5 for audio-unit heavy Logic Projects that are non-Apple, even though all of them are M1 native (not Rosetta 2). That said: in both cases, the spread across cores is only about 12%, and without going in to too many details about the plugins used: 12% is just so much headroom as to be laughable. I just don't like hype that from what I can tell doesn't really translate. Final Cut probably notices quite a bit, this M1 difference. We'll see. A note on build quality that I found surprising: when I got this, it creaked, and felt a bit loose on the bottom cover. Creaked like walking up stairs in an old house. And the loose feel reminded me of a Dell from a decade ago, and wasn't very Apple at all. It's a known 'issue' from google's point of view. A trip to the Apple store led to them opening it up, finding a couple of unglued component cables and closed it, making sure to tighten it with some torque. Now, it's as solid as any other MacBook I've had. But know that this can happen. I'm sure I could have swapped it for another, but really what's the point. Get AppleCare and move along. I don't expect issues, to be honest. Get AppleCare. Do it. With all Apple products you ever buy.

WonderfuMac laptop
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrific laptop! Apple’s M-series processors are fast and very power efficient. Excellent display. Very long battery life. I’m sufficiently impressed that I bought a Mac Mini (M2 Pro,16GB RAM, 500GB SSD) for my home desktop.

Worth the extra $$
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an Apple fan boy from way back, but I also like to check out the PC world and I usually have a Lenovo ThinkPad too. My PC of choice has a 14” screen and as satisfied as I have been with the 13”, 15”, and 16” Macs, that 14” screen is a sweet size. Having owned the 14” MacBook Pro for a little over a week, I am very happy with it. It’s M1 Pro chip beats the M1 and even M2 processors and it doesn’t slow dow from overheating. Battery life is crazy long and the MagSafe3 charger is a relief. Add to that my feeling that no Mac should be sold with less than 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage and you can see why this model is nearly perfect.

Faster than my desktop
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I moved from a Mac desktop to this laptop instead. Hooked up to two screens, it's still much faster than the 1T desktop was with the i5 chip. I work from home and usually only need to plug it in to charge at the end of the day. No complaints here!

Brilliant Mac. Beautiful, fast, powerful, the best
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I traded in my M1 Mac Mini for this. The Mini was a bit underpowered for intended use while the MacPro 14 with the M1 Pro is infinitely faster at all tasks. I've had it for 4 months and never had an issue. The fan kicks on when necessary as I edit videos or crunch code. Plenty of USB-C ports, needed a USB-A adapter for a legacy accessory. Touch ID is excellent, touch pad is spot on as well as the keyboard. The screen is superb while speakers/mic/webcam work brilliantly. I'm running a number of Macs and PCs yet this MacBook serves as the quarterback of my desktop environment. It's worth every penny.... until the M2 Pro, hehe.

Perfect device
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this form-factor and the return of MagSafe. The pro-motion display is tack sharp and very accurate for my editing work. It’s been really hard to stump the M1 pro chip. This machine has been a tank, and has been well worth switching from Windows.

Excellent Laptop, but a bit heavy next to the air
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid laptop, amazing screen. I had the M1 Macbook Air, and, while I love the weight, and even shape of the air, the screen resolution was too low for me, I couldnt fit my spreadsheet and web interfaces on the smaller 1440x900 retina resolution, so I jumped up to a Pro. It's feels much heavier, because of the shape and size, it feels like a brick, especially, in the bag, compared to the M1 Air. But I adore the extra screen space, and double the memory. I'm torn, I love the air still, but I love the new pro. I have a desktop already, so I don't need the power of the pro on the road. If you need the extra ram, extra cpu cores, go for the 14" Pro all the way, if you just need web browsing, and office applications, the Air is totally fine. I can even game on it a little. I wish I could get a bit higher resolution on the Air, I'd not have switched.

Almost Perfect
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this by saying, if you are not a power user, you will probably not notice the difference between this and the base M1 MacBook Pro. But if you look at the price of a regular M1 MacBook Pro with 16gb of RAM and a 512gb ssd, the price difference is $300. The increased screen size, high refresh rate screen, more ports, better webcam, no Touch Bar, and the M1 Pro is absolutely worth it. Now onto the part where it's almost perfect. I still have to use a USB-C to USB adapter for the odd flash drive I need to use. Not a big deal but still inconvenient. Next is battery life. It will be less than the M1 but still very good. Now if you have a lot going on at once, you will notice that charge decrease very quickly. That leads into my biggest gripe but not huge. You only get the base charger. The nice part is that you can buy the charging brick that supports fast charging but it's like $90 and out of stock everywhere. It's not a slow charger by any means but it takes a while longer than my old 2019 i5 MacBook Pro did. Okay summary time. If you do anything productivity based (video/music editing, programming, have a billion tabs open, running multiple displays) buy this base model 14" or any of the upgraded versions. You will notice a difference. If it's a Netflix machine or you spend most of your time just surfing the web, you waste your money over the regular M1 Macs. The best thing you can do too is get Totaltech offered by Best Buy because that made my AppleCare free and Geek Squad set it up during my appointment after my pickup.
