Awful doesn't even begin to describe this machine. It quickly runs out of system memory when simply running Google Chrome, one of the speakers rattles at lower sound frequencies, and then the MagSafe charger port spontaneously stopped working. All within just a month or two of purchasing the machine brand new in the United States. An absolute crime on Apple's / BestBuy's part to sell a machine with so many problems at such a high price. Two thumbs down, absolutely horrible.

This is a replacement laptop for my wife who was still on Intel Mac from 2018. The old Intel one used to spin the fan up when she used to watch videos or do anything. Hot air exhausting with a woooosh ! This M1 has really changed the landscape for MacBooks and iPads. Besides the constant improvement with Display technology, the mini-led display, 16” screen, M1 Pro chip and 512GB storage with dual chips are super. M2 chip is totally overkill and skip-able. It is. Stop gap since 3nm process could not be obtained in time. If you want the perfect balance of power and battery life, M1 Pro is the best chip possible on macs. If you buy M2 pro, the battery life takes a hit. M2 also throws more heat than M1 Pro. The next generation M3, might really be the one to land on since it will have 3nm process and should be way more powerful with higher efficiency than M1 Pro. Till then, this is really the best choice (14” or 16”). A taste of apple silicon and no more Intel for me (hopefully ever again). This laptop handles all tasks with a smirk. No fans spinning. I am yet to hear a fan spin on my M1 Pro laptop or this one. No beach balls. I always look for M1 native versions of apps as opposed to the Rosetta based intel version. Huge difference in performance and efficiency. Battery life is fantastic and love the MagSafe along with extra ports. I will be honest, usb-c was good enough for me. I do not use SD card slot, not does my wife. For buyers thinking of this laptop, you should be realistic to know what you will be using it for as opposed to what you could use on this. 14” is very portable. 16” is still larger footprint. I use 14” version personally. Other than that, these pro versions on M1 are perfect choice and great balance of price to performance. Best Buy sale price makes it way more attractive than buying from apple. Go grab yours today !

Apple Silicon - A Revolution compared to Intel

Amazing performance compared to its former Intel equivalent. Beats even the monster Mac Pro. Phenomenal battery life, fanless operation most of the time, sips power (will work on a 20w phone charger). Runs smoother than an Intel laptop with 2 or 4 times the memory of this laptop. Gorgeous mini LED screen and best speakers of any laptop to date. 16" may be a tad heavy for regular travel. 14" is closer to the Macbook Air in size for similar power.

A sexy beast of a laptop

Absolutely amazing. The new chip is blazing fast. I'm going to just highlight some of the best things going on here. First, if you are doing any content creation, the 14" is not the way to go if you aren't docking. The 16" is so much more comfortable for editing; so far, the video editing is comfortable and easy to see, and scaling works well. It has a 10-core M1 Pro with 16 GPU cores, so it can shred 4k with ease. But... if time is really important to you, and you have disposable income, get the M1 max; it has twice the GPU cores and *can potentially* give you better performance with rendering if you are using video toolbox; I personally use CPU rendering for exact consistency so there isn't much of a difference if any for most cases. The camera is way better than the 720p on the MacBook Air and Pro of last year. It's not anything to call home about, but it is much more crisp, and works with the camera effects, adding a nice blur to the background with portrait mode. However, the camera introduces the infamous controversial notch. I see no issues with the notch, and it should not impact your decision. Why? Because the MacBook Pro has a 16:10 ratio, and the top chunk is where the "menu bar" resides. The notch is completely invisible when the UI is black, and even when it's colored, the notch is using empty space. For those who were concerned that it may cover functionality, it doesn't as long as the app developers adapt, and even then, haven't run into any issues. If anything, it's a benefit. With a camera, you lose screen space. Instead, Apple has tiny bezels, and that extra screen space that would've been lost in the bezel is retained; everyone who was making complaints on social media was neglecting to mention that they were using 3rd party apps that didn't change their code to adapt to the notch, whereas all first-party software has no issues adapting. Funny that the creators of apps are shaming Apple when in reality, it is their own negligence to adapt :P I am pro-Notch When Apple said they put high-res speakers, they weren't kidding. The EQ tuning is exceptional on these tiny speakers (apparently 3 on each side); the stereo is immersive and crisp. That leads me to the headphone jack... The headphone jack has automatic impedance voltage regulation, and using the new "Midi" software, you can configure the sample rate up to 96kHz. It can't compete with better external amps and DACs but it can absolutely dominate any consumer laptop in the market. The screen on the 14 and 16 inch models are the same DPI and brightness at 254dpi and 1000 nits (typical) compared to 400-500 on the previous generation Air and Pro units, and up to 1600nits when viewing HDR content. Gaming? Absolutely! I installed Steam and Epic to test performance. I could get 60fps on Rust which runs on Rosetta 2 for the x86 instruction translation, and it works well. The bottom of the chassis got warm, but the fans never turned on. Fortnite also runs, and at a solid 60fps on epic. I expect more optimizations to come from Rosetta 2, the M1 Pro chip, as well as Unreal Engine optimizations to see even more increases. While this is by no means a gaming machine, it is more than capable of casual to moderate use, and that is with a resolution of 3.5k... If you are in the market for a new Mac, chances are this is not for you. Most would be good with the MacBook Air 2020, but if you're tied, I would add that the 16 GB of Ram future proofs the unit even more, and if you plan on side loading Windows 11 with Parallels, it is a no-brainer, this thing shreds Windows too. HDMI port, dedicated MagSafe charging, and an extra USB C port for a total of 3, and a 3.5mm jack, much better than having to buy a dongle for everything. Apple does not disappoint with battery life either; I see anywhere from 15-22 hours depending on the workflow. Between the optimizations of efficiency cores, the huge battery, and adaptive display brightness, everything just fits together so well on the hardware and software. Speaking of hardware, they did away with the Touch Bar, and the physical keys are so much better now. This is the MacBook Pro you've been waiting for. Want some cons? Here they are. It's bloody expensive when there are Windows computers half the price. No Touch Bar; I think this is a con but some prefer it; the camera although improved is still not that good for a laptop starting at 1999 to 2499; the M1 chip uses arm technology, so it has to emulate x86 instructions which is somewhat finicky on some hardware, but since it can outperform an i9 10th-gen even via emulation, not a con other than bugs. Last potential con is the weight, it is a tank at right around 4 pounds compared to the 2.8 pounds of the Air.

Best laptop I've ever used. Amazing screen, speakers, keyboard and overall build quality. Performance is amazing as well all while having great battery and the machine stays cool. The only con I can say is the camera, image quality from this computer is pretty bad and makes you look like a painting. Even worse with bad lighting.

I had been debating whether to get this or the 14-inch Pro. For me, it came down to the fact that I don't travel as much as I used to. The 14-inch screen is VERY nice, but the extra screen real estate of the 16-inch is THAT noticeable. Yes, coming from a 13-inch MBP, this one is big and rather heavy (With the Fintie Protective Case on, it does not fit in most of my laptop backpacks/messenger bags). However, you get used to it and the screen makes lugging around the extra size and weight worth it. My main rig has a 34" widescreen display, so downsizing to a laptop can be painful. The 16-inch screen makes it less painful. In fact, there are working days where I will use my laptop exclusively (I work from home full-time) with no complaints and minimal, if any, drop in productivity. And, I can get through most of my working day on one battery charge. The reviews extolling the amazing battery life are no lie... it is incredible how long this battery lasts! If there is a con, besides the weight, I guess one would be that the RAM and SSD cannot be user upgraded. The 512GB SSD is not so much an issue for me (though it would be nice to upgrade to a faster SSD), but I would've liked to have been able to upgrade the RAM on my own. Honestly, it's not really an issue because it "feels" just as fast as my desktop with 32GB, but it's more about future-proofing since I do not plan to upgrade until this thing dies or, more likely, ends up on Apple's obsolete list. At this point, because I don't really notice any performance issues, it's hard to list this as a con. On a side note, typically, I buy my hardware from Amazon. However, the lead time for delivery was ludicrous (around 15 days). Best Buy had it in stock for the same discounted price and ready for immediate delivery. Bonus! About 10 days after I had received it, BB further dropped the discounted price by $50. I went online and chatted with a customer service rep to do a price match and, just as BB advertises, I ended up with $100 credited back to my credit card ($50 price match plus the $50 difference)... freaking awesome! All-in-all, I am very happy with this laptop and the purchasing experience with BestBuy.com.

I recently purchased a MacBook and I am satisfied with my decision. The sleek design, powerful performance, and user-friendly interface make it a top-notch choice for both personal and professional use. The battery life is impressive, allowing me to work for hours without needing to recharge. The display is crisp and vibrant, making it a pleasure to watch movies or work on creative projects. Overall, I highly recommend the MacBook to anyone in the market for a reliable and high-performing laptop.

Have used it and relied upon it very heavily pun intended. Let me explain. I have poor vision and wanted a larger screen, however in the realm of laptops this is a heavy kid. That said, it performs extremely well. So much so that as soon as I paid it off bought a MacBook Air. Wow I’m all SET!

Great laptop, specially if you can get it with $200 off like I did. It is very difficult to find as nicely a design computer, with great speakers, a superb keyboard, a wonderful camera, a good mic, great performance, and maybe the best screen on any laptop. Oh, and the battery life? I don't want to be mean to PC laptops, but this makes them look pathetic. You get the same performance plugged and unplugged, and the laptop lasts twice as long? What?!

4.8 Stars - lacking external dev support for M1

TLDR; Laptop went to a family member, it doesn't meet all my software needs like older x86 2019 Intel MacBook Pro laptops or a Windows laptop. It's the best laptop overall but this model revision is heavier and thicker. Review: There is no doubt Apple creates the best laptops pound for pound when it comes to display (color, brightness and now 120Hz), build quality, speakers, trackpad, driver stability, performance, battery life, fan noise and OS features within the Apple Garden Ecosystem. The problem with M1 ARM architecture; It continues to lack external developer support from multiple big names in various computing tasks. 1. Various audio interfaces and plugins continue to lack support or are semi-supported with limited functionality and interface bugs. 2. Unreal Engine 5 continues to lack Nanite and proper full Lumen capability for development using Metal API. 3. No Bootcamp support for ARM Windows. Asahi Linux is still in development. And the list goes on for multiple niches. Written Sept 2022. Release dates: M1 Pro and Max: October 18, 2021

I bought this computer two years ago now, and it's still been the best purchase I've made computer-wise. The bigger trackpad really comes in handy when designing. The 16" screen is a godsend when I'm working 16+ hour days and have the room to zoom way in and still see everything perfectly. I love the fingerprint log-in and its capability of logging me into websites and anywhere else I have a saved password. Love the space gray color. And two years in, my battery still holds for the majority of the day, which is really handy when I'd working on the go.

bought parallels desktop and a windows 11 license. I need it to try a certain amount of things in IT, however, the performance when running windows in a virtualized environment (like parallels is) it gets seriously affected on the M1, something that didn't happen with intel processors. You notice the performance degrading (but not that much, maybe 10, or even 15% i risk to say) when switching between full screens and main desktop with windows (full separate screen, remember that there's an option to seamlessly integrate within your macOS). You kinda feel the stutter but i can see the M1 processor get in the way and prioritize the screen, and that's a good thing to re-prioritize tasks that are being done in one screen or another (take the word "screen" as full-screen apps or software that switches between desktop and full-screen apps or between apps). In my case, running windows 11 makes the mbp m1 run hotter than i'm really use to, but it does not affect battery performance as much as i expected!... weird, isn't it?... love it!

Researched all I needed before I bought it, and it was Shipped to me and arrived Early than they said. It was packed in the Original Apple Box, and everything inside was Brand New. It was Sold originally to Enterprise Rent A Car Company, but was never opened. It has 32 G/b of Ram, not 16 as advertised, so thats a Plus. Overall, this was a Good Smooth Purchase, and it runs Beautifully. I was replacing my old 2012 Version of the MacBook Pro.
