I have really enjoyed the last few Maddens and thought they were building nicely onto the game each year since Madden 16, but then Madden 19 happened. This is the most unpolished, disaster of a Madden in recent memory! Where to begin? I think first and foremost is just how glitchy and broken the gameplay feels! Screen passes are a struggle with every attempt (as the blockers miss obvious blocking assignments all too regularly or the running back takes a few steps back before charging forward like he should when receiving the pass), the run game is largely ineffective and glitchy (yes, even when you aren't holding "sprint" as the new RPM tech has ruined the flow of controlling the ball carrier), defensive play is either broken or frustratingly inconsistent (missed coverages/tackles, warping to the ball carrier 5 to 10 yards away when the route was clearly open, or the inability to smoothly strafe across the field and play coverage as a user), and even the pass game is not what it once was (receivers dropping too many easy passes, not running timely/proper routes, constant blocking problems both in pass protection and as a ball carrier). It takes forever for the team to get set and execute plays when under time pressure. Animation is busted in all kinds of ways (my personal favorite is all the players that glitch out like broken robots after every single play jerking left to right like they've been disconnected from their operating system). There's just no polish whatsoever! This still hasn't been fixed as of October either; I can't believe they shipped the game in this state and think it's acceptable. The craziest part is that the last few years have been largely positive and very fun Maddens to play (albeit with some issues that persist over the years), so something went seriously wrong with development this year. EA needs to start giving these developers 2 years to work on the game instead of rushing out unfinished products that hurt the name and brand of the franchise. I'm not typically one to complain either, but this is flat out disrespectful to the consumers paying full price for this game. The devs need more time/resources to build a product they can be proud of and the customers need a fun, polished football game to enjoy during the season. Weekly roster updates and dynamic commentary continue to be great features of the game. I'm glad to see story mode continue and it has added great value to the overall product (about time!). If they keep going for that Friday Night Lights style storytelling, then I could see this becoming an even bigger part of the experience that people love in the future (that said, they aren't there yet of course). The game graphically looks better this year, though the HDR continues to be too dark in most stadiums and lighting in general just feels off. Online play seems more laggy than in past years as well, but is for the most part decent. Overall, it boggles my mind that this game shipped in its current state, and EA needs to take a hard look at their development cycles to determine if annual releases are really best for the long-term health of the franchise. It's extra insulting that they continue to put so much into MUT every year as their money-making microtransaction-laden mode while ignoring the core of the game. Make a quality $60 product first, so that people can feel better about investing in those modes (as I realize they aren't going away anytime soon). Madden 19 is a mess and a disgrace to the quality games that have come before it. Skip this year and see if they get it fixed for Madden 2020.

This is the Madden people like me(that's been playing Madden since the mid 90's) has been wanting for a while. We wanted EA to show that gave a crap! Madden 19 is not for the weak! I'm sorry to say that, but it's TRUE. The past 6-7 Madden's have been geared towards this new generation that doesn't know or understand how to play Madden. Madden used to be about the experience player's & everyone that didnt know how to play, just got they're tail kicked all day, until they eventually learned how to play. The new age will say "this game is crap...I can't run the ball" yeah... you can't but experience player's can... See that's Madden... they brought the challenge back into the game! Once I spent some time with it... I was running over 100 yards with a 5.2 avg in 1 day! Then Franchise Mode got a little make over! It's not the greatest but it's good! Really good! Nobody cares about MUT! Its considered but most gamers, as the worst mode ever! Nobody cares about MUT packs, or cards. Franchise Mode is & ONLY will be the reason to buy Madden. Franchise Mode is legit this year, No I didnt but Madden 18, Why? They did nothing to Franchise Mode... this year? I've bought 2 Madden 19's all because the franchise mode was better...& hopefully next year's Madden 20, we get a "Coaching Carousel", a "Deep Moral System where everything you do in franchise effects your team" & "NFL Network GameDay be introduced into the game for Pre game, Halftime, & Post game Highlights with conversations". That should be the focus for Madden 20!!! Longshot- not a fan... just like MUT... these two modes, we can do without! Their a waste of the DEVS time! Now bringing us a very deep SuperStar Mode... that will make Madden 20 better then this year's Madden! Overall - Buy the game! If your an experience Madden player, buy the game, if your a Franchise guy, Buy the game! If your a MUT player... stop wasting everyone time, & learn how to build your team up, if not...don't buy the game.

Long time player of Madden and huge critic of the series. There's still alot that needs to worked on and improved, but they have finally started fixing little things that have been neglected since Madden 2000. For instance, in franchise mode being able to assign a TE to long snapper, or being able to search the entire NFL roster for a player have long been absent from the series. The real player motion is hard to adjust to but I feel over time will become second nature. The opening presentation, halftime show, and overall 4k visuals are much improved, yet still nowhere near where they could or should be. I still long for the days where they bring back "The extra point" halftime show, or recruit multiple announce teams and have different visuals for Monday/Sunday night games. Most football fans play the game for realism, and one of EA's biggest crutches has been feeling the need to force feed their name and logo down your throat. EA logo's all over the onscreen graphics, announcers saying "this game brought to you by EA..." We get it. You're the only company to own rights to the NFL. So why not use it? What I wouldn't give for a real life TV presentation that the NHL series uses in a Madden game. Actually seeing an ESPN or CBS logo? Using the real commentators and a green screen like NHL? It can be done, the NHL series is living proof of that. As far as gameplay goes, my only gripes early on is the new "one-cut burst" leaves much to be desired. In open space it can be effective, but running into the line of scrimmage it is very clunky and slow. I wish they would have worked in option to turn that feature on/off. And it seems the "jumping linebacker" problem from Madden's past is back. I've noticed an extraordinary amount of balls batted down at the line of scrimmage and leaping linebackers picking off my passes across the middle. I can only hope EA adjusts this in a future patch. All that said, if your one concern is "Am I paying $60 for a roster update?" then your answer is no. The game is much improved visually and mechanically over 18. But, as usual, EA changes just enough to leave you with a wish list for next years installment.

In past years, Madden was an annual buy from me. I loved football, it came out around my birthday, I was good at it. Once the PS3/XB360 era began I didn't have the money or time for video games so I stopped. This year I thought to buy Madden since it would be my first in over a decade and I couldn't be more disappointed. This game has crashed (PS4) at least every 3rd game in franchise mode. The game-play is identical to what it was 10 years ago. Reading defenses, cornerback and safety tells, playbooks, catching habits/mechanics all nearly identical with the only difference being multiple options for which of the 3 pass catch animations you want your receiver to perform. The differences are so marginal it's mind-blowing. You will not even need to finish a single drive before you have seen every info-graphic and animation within the game. Even player celebrations on the sideline have been dumbed down. Graphical presentation for a game in 2018 is sub-par at best, with the only PS4/XB1 level visuals coming in the static story mode scenes. Commentators also become immediately aggravating as they have such a small pool of lines to choose from and - on common occasions - read an entirely wrong line. I honestly don't think this game has made a single improvement since I last picked up the game in high school during the PS2 era. The sole variation is the included story mode, a mode I should enjoy, which is filled with little game-play and "choices" that do not effect literally anything of value. This game is an embarrassment of a 2018 release and should only be played by those who want to play a football game with friends regardless of the reviews.

On defense you can’t cancel a players individual responsibility with out the screen getting stuck zoomed out and when you reset the view, your player commits an encroachment. Any time you commit a turnover on offense , your player will get stuck in an animation of throwing a fit while the defense is running the ball back. Injuries are EA Sports favorite thing this year. I played franchise with the 49ers .. and in one game Jimmy G, McKinnon, Joe Staley and Reuben Foster all go out with critical injuries ... in a single game though?! This happens often, too. Dropped passes on nicely thrown balls . Constantly throwing post pattern plays , lead the WR with a man trailing ... the ball hits the WR in the hands , the animation shows a catch.... then contact is made from behind and the ball just falls out of the WRs hands... incomplete. Every game you can count on this happening multiple times . I hit the same route twice in a row with the game doing this with Julio Jones... but you can surely count on any pass thrown remotely close to a defensive player that he’ll catch it for an INT! Why madden got the defense with better hands than the offense ?! Makes no sense. If you go over replays you’ll see that the player speed of non-controlled players are faster than the player you are controlling simply from the motion of their running . You’ll see your WR running routes and as soon as they catch it , their speed drops noticeably. It is a cool concept , but it really causes some major game play issues . The more I play the more things I find. Disappointed, thoroughly

Full Disclosure: I buy Madden every year. Have done so for as long as I can remember and every year there’s at least one or two tweaks that make the new game feel a lot different from its predecessor. This year is no different. The running game feels a lot more difficult this year. It requires a lot more attention to blocking schemes. Each running play feels unique, there’s a noticeable difference between your stretch runs, toss runs, dives, traps, powers, etc. whereas in years past you could essentially just dumb it down to “inside run or outside run.” Also, it’s become more difficult to pull off jukes/spins effectively. Especially if the ballcarrier doesn’t have particularly high ratings in those areas. Gone are the days of seemingly every RB/WR being able to pull off every move. This makes the game feel deeper, more challenging and rewarding to master. Defensively I find it more difficult to make ballhawking plays with my line backers than in years past. I can get guys in position but it feels like they have a tougher time leaping up to make the grab. One of the major keys to success on defense is winning in the trenches. If you’ve got good/smart/quick DL you can get a nice jump on the snap and disrupt plays in the backfield. If not, you’ll be at the mercy of the opposing QB. Overall I like the changes in this years game. Gameplay feels more realistic but it’s not as easy/fun to just pick up and start playing. I highly recommend going through and doing the skills tutorials. Especially if you like to play on All-Madden.

Has Madden actually stepped their game up this year and provided an innovative edition to the franchise? Well no they have not. What I have seen through my week of playing is that this year game feels more balanced competitively. Some years the passing, speed running or the defense is over powered to the point the game is hard to play. Running backs break differently than they used to (bigger guys take longer to get going) and they brought back the high, low passing and got rid of the dart system. I really like these mechanics and makes the game flow much better. The presentation of the game is just as bad as it has always been with a poor halftime show and lazy in game commentary. Ultimate has the biggest changes for better or worse. The edition of the training system has made it easier than ever to build your own team, compared to a bunch of guys that have the same chemistry. It's early but it seems like people are spending way more money than usually on micro transactions to make their team. I wouldn't recommend this mode if you are not a patient person who likes to slowly build and save your in game currency. Longshot is such an unnecessary inclusion, really not worth a play through.

Same old madden. Long shot is terrible this year. You pretty much get graded on how poorly your teammates play and they are pretty bad. Franchise pretty much looks the same with a few new positions added that should have been there years ago. The mechanics are same old. Players lack sideline intelligence, feels more like a random algorithm that determines success of a play rather than skill. Still haven't fixed the challenges. Already had a moment were the CPU picked a pass with no feet inbounds and when I went to challenge it said "theres nothing to challenge" even though the replay was clear as day. I beg the nfl to discontinue the licensing deal with EA and let 2k put out a better game. Madden developers seem to get lazier every year and they clearly do not know what their fans are looking for.

I'll be the first to say that I'm not the typical, "Madden never changes" troll, but this year was a let down. First-franchise has hardly changed. Looking back, it's so disappointing that little is done with this popular mode. Second-longshot part 2 is a bust. The story isn't as interesting and the gameplay is boring. The decision making choices are gone and if you fail during game time, you are simply asked to "try again." Third-to say there is an overhaul to regular gameplay and graphics would be a generous statement. The slight improvements that have happened are miniscule to most players. And fourth-the game music stinks again. Last years was a disappointment to someone like me. Way too much rap/hip hop. Past Madden's have had a great assortment and leave me wishing I could have kept those games for the music. So short story-long, maybe wait until next year before you drop $60

This years Madden had some great innovations, like the new progression system and adding more specialized positions, but for every improvement there are 2 problems. There are far too many glitches and AI problems for a game that has constantly been in development for 25 years. The rating system is primitive and far too inexact at this point. The franchise mode hasnt gotten substantial attention in years. EA has the resources to make Madden a great game, it just doesnt use them. It does football fine if you are happy picking it up and playing a game here and there for fun.....but if you intend to dive deep into its systems, this years Madden is a disappointment in more ways than its a success. Save your cash and keep playing last years game. With the community roster updates and sliders, its still just fine.

I first played John Madden football on the SNES when it was called John Madden Football and not Madden XX, and have played most entries since. I also played the 2k football games as well, but the recent Madden games are the best representation of the sport yet. People like to hate on the series, but every year it gets a little bit better. I didn't like that they took away the behind the defender view this year, but a recent patch has added this back into the game. Overall, you are never going to have a perfect football game as there will always be little glitches like weird animations, but these don't happen very often. The gameplay is solid and the graphics are great! I plan on also getting the PC version at some point as well.

I like the Madden games but it just seems like every year they just give us a little more than they could have given us years ago. Graphics look great and are a bit better than last years game. I miss the NCAA games, they were watered down but it was the College feeling they brought to the games that made them so much better than Madden. Madden has watered down their single player mode just like the other games and focused on their online modes to gain more money from the people - not just pointing them out because pretty much every game is now doing that and it has gotten really bad. They need to shift their focus to improving the game not their online crap but it's all about those $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Great game and love the graphics....What does not seem to have carried over is a sense of momentum and weight. There's a lack of driving or falling forward for ballcarriers. Sometimes, power backs with full heads of steam are met head-on by cornerbacks who stand them straight up and take them down with ease. The Truck Stick is especially ineffective. Whether that's a side effect of RPM is unclear. The biggest gameplay issue otherwise is a lack of sideline awareness. Even cover athlete Antonio Brown often fails to get his feet down when attempting to make a catch near the sideline at full speed. Runners and receivers can also have their momentum push them out of bounds prematurely. Nevertheless, I still love it

If you want a football game, your options are vey limited as Madden is really the only football game available. As the platform moves from year-to-year, there are marginal updates and improvements. The main reason to purchase the game is to have updated rosters (and the glory of the promise of a sensational season as opposed to what reality has proven to be for my favorite team almost halfway in to the season). This game was purchased for my 15 year old son who, when asked, said it is "good." Given the amount of teen angst I usually have to deal with, that sounds like a stellar recommendation to me! He keeps playing it and even takes a break from Fortnite to do so, which must mean it's pretty good!

Another year, another Madden. There's not much in the way of revolutionary changes, but the new additions are nice. There's Real Player Motion, which is supposed to better mimic player movement. This makes running the ball much more fun. Franchise mode now has custom draft classes, an oft requested feature, and improved player progression. Ultimate Team has new bells and whistle that should make fans of the mode happy. Longshot is back as the cheesy but fun single player movie mode; it's about 4 hours long. All in all, if you weren't a Madden fan before this won't sway you, if you already were getting Madden this should satisfy you.

Would have given half a star if allowed. 1. The music tracks are all offensive, pro kill cops, doing drugs, be a gang banger and you can't even edit the tracks played or turn them off. 2. The game is filled with bugs. Players running off the field when injured, players running pass routes other than the one called or not running at all. 3. The same re-hashed in game commentary from the 2018 version. 4. The new player single point advancement progress system during franchise mode takes away from the individual advancement. 5. Video quality is a huge step down from the previous version. (2018)

The movement of players is slow and the running game is extremely difficult for no apparent reason. The defense has the advantage in running plays and the speed of offensive players do not seem realistic. For example running backs should be able to juke defensive lineman. Should have a story mode for Devin Wade similar to NBA 2k's My player mode. I suggest to forget treating Devin Wade like a movie. The movements of players were more realistic in Madden 18. Players also run the same. Quarterbacks should be able to throw as getting hit just like in real games.

Coming from Europe, American Football (as we call it) was something exotic. We're deep into real football (what you call it soccer) so I'm trying to understand this game. The game is fun to play (still playing rookie level) and despite it doesn't have a many different modes as FIFA, it's deep. I haven't played anything but the training camp and couple of exhibition games and never played previous releases, so I can't compare. But, so far, I'm liking it and it'll keep me busy for few months before I can even think I'm done with it. Next step: baseball game :)

I have been a Madden player for years. This game so lame. They make it difficult to run and the other team can score most of the time in the last minute of play, even though my team has one of the best defenses. The player ratings are not accurate. Diggs and Thielen drop contested balls all the time, even though they were one top receivers in this category. Defenders are going in one direction and then all of a sudden change direction, get around a defender to make the play in a split second. I am done buying this game. The game never improves. Awful game! See you Madden.

Overall 19 was updated in a good way. General play is a bit smoother but still has some of the usual annoying tendencies. Offense isn't quite as easy to run and the defense was bulked up to make it easier. New Longshot story is good but if you are looking to pick up where you left off in Madden 18 you will be disappointed as this starts it over and none of that progress is mentioned or brought up. New features to Franchise mode are nice and custom draft class adds a fun bonus if you are willing to put in the time for it. Overall it's an upgrade and continues to be good.
