    Small but mighty!

As a guitar player I am drawn to Marshall products naturally. Needless to say, when they started making headphones and bluetooth speakers I was very interested. Now that I own several Marshall products ranging from 100 Watt Valve Guitar Heads, to small but mighty bluetooth speakers, I can say without a doubt that this awesome company from the UK does just about everything right. At the same time, I will not claim that all of their products throughout history are perfect, but who’s really are? From Jimi Hendrix to Slash and everywhere in-between, Marshall has a reputation and place in history with music fans of all ages and it shows. When you look at a Marshall product it screams iconic and artistic design and this little Emberton speaker is no exception. The first time I unboxed this and held it in my hands I was wowed by the feel and design. It is chunky, but in a good way just like the guitar tones you can get out of their awesome amplifiers. By chunky, what I really mean is that it feels SOLID. The build quality is fantastic. It isn’t slippery. The metal grill and Marshall logo on the front are 100% awesome Marshall vintage style. The size is also perfect IMHO. Small enough to toss in a backpack, suitcase, or purse (well maybe not a clutch) easily. The gold multi-directional button on top controls every feature of the speaker except the bluetooth pairing button which blends in with the housing of the speaker nicely so the simple aesthetic can remain. The big gold center button turns on/off power, controls the volume, and skips forward and backward by pushing left/right/up/down. Easy easy. If I had one complaint in the design category, it would be that the left/right/up/down/bluetooth markings are also black and very small, making them difficult to read. That said, once you know what they do and where they are, you won’t be looking at them anyway due to the simple design. The sound quality is where the small but mighty comes into play. Having music come from both the front and back creates an immersive music listening experience. The EQ is also just right for just about any type of music. Not too bass heavy, just right. The clarity is there, as all instruments can be heard clearly and I can appreciate that. While it may not be loud enough to fill a rock arena, it is definitely loud enough for most applications that you would use this type of speaker for. That said, I find that if you crank it to 11 (Spinal Tap pun intended) you will get some distortion. If you want to crank it and still have it sound great, I recommend cranking it to 9 (out of 11). To do this, hold the volume up until you hear the four quick guitar harmonics, then tap the volume down twice. You should then have a loud, but distortion free listening experience. Being IPX7 rated for moisture is a big bonus for this speaker. While I won’t test mine under water, I will definitely not think twice about taking it out in rainy weather. Another great feature is that Marshall gave us a USB-C connection/cable. The fact that it is C type and not the older micro USB is an excellent design choice by the Marshall team in current tech times. I have found that the battery life is also excellent. While it is rated at 20 hours, I have yet to test that theory, because honestly, I haven’t had to. I can say that the battery has lasted me all day without charging which is really all I can ask for. All in all, if you are looking for an extremely stylish and compact water resistant speaker, I would highly recommend the Emberton speaker. Marshall makes bluetooth speakers in all sizes, to which I own a few. I am definitely happy with all of them PROS Iconic Marshall styling is on point! Excellent build quality Sound is thick and rich at the right volume level USB-C charging and cable included Great battery life IPX7 water resistance Simple button layout CONS Really small text that blends in with the black colorway If you crank it to 11, you get the wrong kind of distortion

The bass on this little speaker is great. Battery life is great. Sound. Highs and Bass are distinct. Voice comes out clear. Connection. Easy. Simple Bluetooth connection. No need for separate software etc. Battery. I am on day 2 on my typical work from home and I am only down 10%. At this rate it will last about 10 days. Appearance. Looks like a guitar amp. Nice colors and feel of rubber around for slip resistance and drop protection. Functionally. Sound comes from both sides. No need to mess with dust covers. Only 1 plug to plug a USB C to charge. 1 multi toggle button to control volume, fast forward, rewind, and power. Another for Bluetooth. I actually had the guts to submerge this in water and it survived... Great job Marshall. I would highly recommend this product.

First impression out of the box is the cool classic look of the Marshall Emberton..Everything from the materials used and the weight of the speaker exudes quality. Mine came with about a 50% charge, so the first thing I did was fully charge it which took about 1 hour. The charging lights are located at the top of the speaker. It has 10 led bars, each representing 10% charge and they are very easy to see. Pairing the speaker to my phone took just seconds with the push of the Bluetooth button located at the top left. Bluetooth is version 5.0 which results in quick and stable connections The balance of operations are controlled by a single gold button in the top center. This one button will power the device on and off, pause music, skip to next song or go back to previous song, and of course control volume up and down. The biggest advantage of this is that you don't have to be tied to your phone to control the music and you don't have to have one person in charge. Anyone can go to the speaker and change any of the controls. Once turned on the speaker produces amazing quality sound and volume, without distortion, especially considering that the speaker is about the length and width of your cellphone and less than 3 inches deep. And the sound appears to spread equally in all directions thanks to what Marshall calls "True Stereophonic Sound". Marshall claims 20 of playtime on a single charge and after using the speaker heavily for 2 days I have no reason to doubt this claim. There is also a 20 minute quick charge which will give you 5 hours of playtime. The speaker is rated IPX7 water resistance which allows for submersion up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. This makes for the perfect pool party speaker.. I love this speaker and would highly recommend it but i do have a couple of minor gripes. I do wish that Marshall had an app to allow for additional controls such as equalization. It would also be nice if this speaker was able to connect to smart device such a Google Home. And finally, when you power the speaker on or off it makes loud musical sound which gets a little annoying after a while. In summary, I really can't imagine anyone not being thrilled with this purchase. I will be buying more for gifts.

Hello there, thanks for the great review and feedback. One note: the Emberton uses Bluetooth 5.0 which means that it can be connected to Google Nest or an Amazon speaker and can be used as part of a Multi-Group. We have taken note of your wish for the app and Equalizer control.

    Powerful experience the sound

With classic look but a portable speaker with powerful sound does feel the pure music. It is packed with the basic necessary to go cordless and easy to connect with any devices, and just enough to control of volume and give sense of battery life nicely. The hardware feels sturdy, speaker panels covered with metal alike net for both side., the rest part of body covered with rubber alike feeling material that give look of strong lasting to any occasion, and less worrisome if falls or get scrached or wet in the pool. For controls, it has on one side battery indicator that gradually shows number of bars as fully charged or how much of it left while playing. The second light is Power on and connected indicator to the opposite side which is next to Power button. In the center the controlling knob to manage volume, pause, play, next and previous functions. After having used for a week and half during daily lifestyle, I would describe it as following: Connection experience with notebook, tablet, and phone are straight forward as per standard in the market. What remarkable handling of multiple connection simultaneously. Having two or more devices with the speaker, then from each device play its own song for instance, the speaker play it immediately, and repeat as the second device play different song with ease and without having to reconnect etc. which was the case observed from two kids while in different devices OS can alternate what they want to listen each and haven’t done any complain. Hence big plus and tells how flexible and good is the software inside in this sense. Another signature can tell is when it connect, disconnect, power on/off does guitar sound. From sound perspective considering its purpose, not much to expect, but Marshall seems to have put effort to each part of music play as should be at the best in the given scope. Bass, low and high of voice and note does feel in balance and well. In short great sound in overall for what is, and powerful as increase the volume. For instance, listening Miles Davis’ Autumn Leaves, can hear the trumpet vibrant to the last air while listen the drums from the background, as comes in saxophone with high note. (Played from iPhone 11 Pro with Eq mode Jazz, stored on the phone) Listening Andrea Bocellis Nessun Dorma, (Played from iPhone 11 Pro with Eq Voice Booster, stored on the phone), it plays nicely the voice remarkably as it hit high and low. Then listening streaming Beats1 session (Played from iPhone 11 Pro with Eq mode Bass Booster), it plays continuously without interruption and retain its sound level through out listening session. Battery life, haven’t tracked exactly if it really last 20 hs as the brand claim. But feels it last longer. With full charge, had it played with medium volume for an hour or so, leave for a while and played again, then left for next day to repeat the same. And repeated for four days. And battery life still left 60%. Probably this result is different if it is played at full volume continously. Shortcoming: 1. Some of songs from the device played seems to need to have volume from medium to max to be able to appreciate each part of the composition. Lower to medium feels very low hard to tell. 2. Connection after stopped playing and left for a while. It need to Power On or Connect again as automatically doesn’t wake up and connect.. 3. Marshall Icon is only in one side of speaker. Considering plays both side, could have same. Depending on perspective, following are arguable point as shortcoming or good: 1. I am not a fan of installing app for every device we get, but absent of equalizer in the hardware itself nor Marshall app to control it and having to rely on each device OS equalizer feels bit odd as have to look for it. 2. Bit heavy, so having to carry in the backpack among many items, tablet and phone then this speaker going to somewhere to spend the day, add-on wight eels quite heavy. Due to this, even its intend is for mobility, it has its own downside and optimal for certain use case. 3. Unable to replace battery in long term use as it get depleted hence can’t save the sound from the speaker unless always use plugged. For last, aside of price point, in general is good product that represent the brand while bring fun to the music experience.

    Small Package BIG Sound

The Marshall Emberton Bluetooth speaker definitely packs BIG sound in a small form factor. The speaker is a little bigger than a soda can but don’t let the size fool you. This speaker packs awesome sound! Not only is it aesthetically pleasing with the excellent design and premium materials, the sound is excellent. The bass is pretty much perfect for such a small unit and the highs and mids are crisp and clear even at high volume. I don’t hear much distortion when played at high volume. This is by far the best sounding speaker of its size I have heard so far. I really like the design with the center button mimicking a gaming controller joystick almost. Very neat design. I love that it also has the battery indicator right on top so all you have to do is glance over to see how much juice you have left. The pairing button is also conveniently located to the left of the main “joystick control”. This makes the device very simple to control. It paired right up to my phone following the instructions provided. I have had no pairing or Bluetooth audio issues whatsoever. The reason for the docking of 1 star is solely based on the charging port. The cable that came with the unit fits quite loosely in the port. I was pretty surprised given it’s a new USB-C design. I thought it may have just been the cable so I tried a few other usb-c cables with the same result. I feel over time this could really become an issue. If you can’t charge the device, you cant use it, so a snug fitting charging port, I feel is essential. Only time will tell if the port gets weaker and even looser. All in all this is an excellent unit and Im very pleased with the quality of the sound and the size of the unit. It is my new go to speaker of its size. Very well don’t Marshall!

Totally Love this Blue Tooth Speaker. The build quality is nothing less than what you would come to expect from Marshall. Built like a small tank, will not easily break. The ruberized black finish housing with front and rear metal grille mesh is very stylish. The Gold/Brass multi-control button is a nice touch. Battery life is 20 hours with a full charge, could literally take this to 10 two hour gatherings. Sound is incredible and well balanced for not having a EQ option. It does favor mids and highs moreso than base. I think that is why it is still clear at high volumes. I do like that I can control the volume from my phone obviously because my phone is the feed to the speaker. Pros Easy to pair Battery bar indicator Very portable on the go solution Quick charge will give you 5 hours Will stay put due to its weight and rugged design Very good sound quality Almost 360 surrond sound Can pair to devices simultaneously Cons No app to control EQ Cannot connect to another speaker Still Marshall is a trusted brand and takes pride in their products. You will not be disappointed.

When I purchased this 1st Gen Emberton a year ago in Nov 2022 on a Black Friday deal, I was familiar with all the big names, Bose, Sony, JBL, UE, etc., but I didn't know anything about Marshall speakers. I had seen the larger Marshall speakers at Best Buy for a few years, such as the Stanmore, but I didn't even know that Marshall made a smaller more portable speaker such as the Emberton. I admit this was an impulse purchase at first. I figured for $100, I could take the Emberton home, try it, and I could return it if I didn't care for the sound quality. All I had to do was listen to this Emberton for a couple minutes, and then I realized that I gotta keep this, and there was no way this was going back. I am very picky about sound quality, and the Emberton is very impressive. It produces much bigger sound for a smaller more portable speaker, with the 360-degree sound. On top of that, Battery Life is also one of the Emberton's strong points as well. I few months later, I brought this Emberton over to a friend's house so he could listen to it, and he was so impressed with the sound that we went to Best Buy the same day and he bought one as well. I own a few different other brands of Bluetooth speakers, including Klipsch, Bose and Sony. The bonus with the Emberton is that the speaker's looks are so eye-catching and unique as well. But even on the merits of sound quality alone, if you are looking for a great sounding speaker, the Emberton exceeds expectations and is so worth it. My advise is, just buy it, try it, and you will be impressed as well!

This is my first Marshall speaker, and I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality of this tiny-but-mighty powerhouse! I have a relatively recent model of portable Bose speaker, which I thought offered a great sound, but when you play your favorite music on this Marshall speaker, it's no contest. The battery was charged more than a half way full upon arrival, so I was able to start using it right out of the box. The Bluetooth connection to my iPhone and Samsung tablet were a breeze. It's too soon to tell of its battery life but after about two hours of music appreciation, the battery bars didn't decrease. It's definitely light (1.54 lbs) and very portable. One comment about the packaging box - it conveyed a very specific message and I felt like I was not their target audience. Perhaps, something for their marketing team to ponder... Other than that, I LOVE this speaker and highly recommend it to all you music enthusiasts!

When I first listened to this speaker I did not like it, the bass seemed like it was lacking and the clarity wasn’t all that great....that was yesterday. Today I was going to take it back but decided to listen to it one more time, this time on the deck where it would see most of its use. When I really listened to it, the bass is nice...for its size. You can’t compare it to. home system with dedicated sub/center/fronts/rears. You can’t compare it to the system in your car, you have to realize that it will have limitations due to its size. The bass is nice but your not going to hear much of it 30 feet away. I listened to it about 2.5 - 3 ft from my head at about 1/3 rd volume and it sounds really good. I cranked it to about 70% volume and once again it sounds good and is surprisingly loud. The lows/mids/highs are separated and it’s impressive. I compared it to my JBL Flip 5 and they both sound good but differently at different volumes. The Flip 5 gets louder faster than the Emberton but once you reach 50% volume the Emberton begins to catch up. This is something that I noticed with all the Marshalls. I hate the way the design the volume control. I understand that they set volume based on dB gain and not linear like most other products, my home system is the same way and it took awhile to get used to it. I think if you consider everything I said, you will find that it sounds good. Price: the JBL Flip 5 sounds 99% as good as the Marshall in my opinion so it’s a toss up: if you want something that looks good, sounds good, more compact, sturdier feeling, longer battery life and has Bluetooth 5, go with the Marshall Emberton otherwise buy the JBL Flip 5. The Flip 5 will probably be on sale Labor Day weekend for $89 - $99. Either way you can’t go wrong. As of this writing, the JBL Charge 4 is on sale for $119.00...that’s a bargain!

Wow! Awesome sound from a small speaker! Compact, SOLID construction and big time sound make this little beast a winner in my book! And after all, who else's book matters to me? I like me some bass sound in my speakers and I searched longer than the Hebrews roamed in the wilderness to find one I liked and the Marshall Emberton nailed it! The brass colored accents on the black speaker make it look slick! The thing is simple and quick to connect to my phone or iPad too!
