Modern headphones with old school look

These Bluetooth headphones are modern with technology but look old school. Covered in vinyl they’re much smaller than the old style headphones. I have a small head & always had problems with the old style slipping down but these are adjustable and actually fit quite snug. The ear cushions are comfortable too & also removable. They fold up nicely for storage. I connected them right away with my iPod & no app is necessary. The sound is good too, actually better than I expected but the range is what impressed me. My house sits on over a half acre & I left the iPod in the house & walked to almost the edge of my backyard & still was connected without any breaking up whatsoever. Another user can plug in too. Charge lasts a long time & is by usb. You can also listen while plugged in with a provided cable that also has a microphone. The one flaw is that there isn’t any customizing for bass, treble, etc. other than that they’re great

Surprisingly Good Bluetooth Headphones

The Marshall Major III are bluetooth headphones from Marshall with an interesting set of features. I have a set from another brand which I typically use for the gym. These headphones more or less live in my car and get charged about once a month when the battery runs out. So feature-wise, I prioritize comfort, long battery life, and bluetooth audio quality. These are pretty minimal in the way of connectors and buttons which matches up with the aesthetic I've grown to expect from Marshall. 3.5mm audio, usb micro charging, and a button control.
Unboxing these, you're presented with a sleek, relatively lightweight package. The earcups are a cool rounded rectangular shape. I can tell immediately that these while worn over the ear, won't actually encapsulate my ear, just sit on the outside. Wearing them however and listening to music allayed my concerns about exterior noise blocking. It does a decent job for something that is not noise canceling. Audio quality is pretty good, on par with my other headset as this supports AptX. It does look a bit fancier than one typically sees in the gym so I'm still deciding how I feel about that and whether I will continue using it for workout purposes. Despite the relatively lightweight, it does seem to squeeze a bit more when adjusted properly. While this is ok for listening while working on my computer for a couple hours time, it got a bit annoying when working out. I also cut that a bit short as I got a bit worried about how well it will handle sweat.
The interface on this is pretty cool, a single button. But you can press it (or long press it) play/pause/pair, then push it up and down (volume), left or right (skip forward and backwards). No NFC built-in so you will need to do the normal bluetooth pairing. It does have a 3.5mm audio so you can use it as a wired headset. I normally don't bother testing this part of bluetooth headphones as I tend to exclusively use them wirelessly. But wanting to be thorough for this review, I did. And as it turns out, the headphones were paired to my phone while I connected this to my stereo (phones are losing their 3.5mm audio connector you know). So, imagine my surprise to find that I could hear both sources. Looking at the box, I discovered that you can actually share music to wired headphones from bluetooth. You wear the headphones listening to a bluetooth source and daisy chain to someone else over the wired connection - cool!
I tested these over the course of a couple days. Not continuous listening but for a good amount of time each. Still plenty of battery life left. I've not run things long enough to fully confirm the 30 hour rated life, but I'd say this is definitely in that ballpark and if not for the Marshall look and faux leather, could be a replacement gym set. As it is, I'm quite motivated to take better care so it will likely end up seeing reduced usage by always living at my work desk. Then my gym set becomes 100% gym only and I no longer have the issue where I randomly reach into my backseat upon arriving at the gym only to discover I left my headset elsewhere.
Even though this is not as whiz bang featured as some other bluetooth headphones, I'm quite impressed. Pretty good sound quality, great battery life, simple uncomplicated interface makes a big difference. I'm not sure I'd ever have a use for the audio sharing feature - maybe on an airplane trip, but this accomplishes its job and does it with style and verve! I need to play around with the fit a bit more, but other than that I'm quite happy with the Marshall Major III.

I wasn't too familiar with Marshall headphones prior to getting these. But I've been pleasantly surprised with them from the start. The build quality is solid. I initially was a bit upset that there was no case that came with it. However, these are pretty much as rugged as the amplifiers Marshal makes. The provided USB charging cord and spiral headphone cord are top notch quality too.
I wanted to take away half a star due to a bit of discomfort I experience after hours of wearing them. However, I feel that's a tad unfair as no two people are exactly the same and it may not reflect what someone else may experience. I have slightly bigger ears and a head that fits snugly in a medium sized motorcycle helmet for comparative purposes.

Didn't realize Marshall was making headphones but when I saw these I had to try them out. Mid size on ear they are compact and comfortable.
Much better than in ear headphones IMO. Great sound and good bass, they really shine. Good battery life too.
Works with phone, single button for controls, easy pairing, replaceable ear pads. Comes with a usb cord for charging and another cable for wired connection. No ac adapter but hopefully you have one already. Good Bluetooth range. Good price, get two!

Finding good and decent blue tooth headsets are difficult to find, especially if you are on a budget. I've tried both wireless and blue tooth, both expensive, mid-range and cheap. I don't like free standing ear buds because I'm afraid they are going to fall out or I'm going to lose them.
With that said, I am very much enjoying these Marshall Major III headsets. After having it for nearly a week, testing them on various devices, I must say that this is my FAVORITE headset.
Pros:
-Look and feel of it. I am familiar with the Marshall line of speakers and monitors and love that classic "Marshall" name look. The Major III's go back and honor that classic and minimalist look onto these headsets. Just looking and feeling them in your hands, you are left with an impression that these are not only looking good, but feel good (in your hands and over your ears). It has leather-like surfaces on the top of the head band and on the ear cushion which feels comfy on your skin.
-Setting up: The user manual matches the minimalist appeal of the head set, where you are left with very few wording and simple images. Powering it on the first time and connecting it to my iPhone XR was simple and painless. Figuring out the controls of it was just as easy as you are given just an image of what/how to use the single button on the head set.
-That Knob. On the Left ear piece you will find a single gold-color knob. It has a total of 10 different functions on using the Major III: 1) Powering it on, 2) Play/pause, 3) Fast Forward, 4) Rewind, 5) Next Forward, 6) Go Back, 7) Increase Volume, 8) Decrease Volume, 9) Answer calls/Hang up, and 10) Voice activate. These 10 functions are each controlled by how you click and push.
-3.5 Input/Output Socket. These are Bluetooth headsets...AND wired. If you are low on power, Marshall provides a cord that can be plugged into the headset and the audio jack of your device(s). If you want to share with someone, you can plug in their own headset into the 3.5 jack. This was a very brilliant move!
-Removable Ear Cushions. If you need to replace the ear cushions, this is an option later down the line. I find it very useful as these can get dirty, damaged, or worn out.
-Long-lasting. According to the manual, you can enjoy 30 hours of wireless listening before needing a recharge. I haven't gone that long yet, but did watch both Avengers Infinity Wars and Endgame back to back, and I was at about 95%.
-Sound. Very crisp and clear, and not noise cancelling. They on the ear comfortably and still provide that nice crisp sound. Very impressed with this quality.
Connection distance: It's stated that you can go up to 30 feet away from the connected device. That's pretty accurate. I live in a two story town home and my phone was in the kitchen and I was in the master bathroom which is about 20-25 feet away including the floor between and the connection was still really good.
Cons: (yes...1 con that I found)
-Connecting to Android tablet. It connected really well with my iPhone XR, but I had difficulty connecting it to my Tab S4. The manual states that in order to make it discoverable by devices, you need to hold down the power knob for 5 seconds. Unfortunately, it turns off at 4 seconds. I held if for about 3 seconds and my Tab S4 did not find it. After a few minutes of turning it on and off, it finally was discoverable and was able to connect. Maybe it was just me and I wasn't holding it down properly? Who knows. I tried it on another Android device and I had similar issues. When pairing it to my wife's iPad Pro, no issues whatsoever. I don't know what the issue stemmed from, but it's working now.
Overall, I am very much enjoying the Major III headsets. What an incredible device.

These are some pretty slick looking headphones.
Though appearance doesn’t always mean something is good. I’d say these are pretty standard run of the mill headphones. I’ve tested so many that’s it’s quite hard to keep count.
Build quality wise they are very nice and they feel very sturdy, they don’t feel cheap at all and feel like they’re meant to last.
On to the most important aspect, audio quality. Personally for me, they’re on the bright sounding side. As I’ve mentioned in nearly all my reviews I love the low-end bass response in my headphones. The more the better really. These are quite lacking, there’s bass, but it’s not really there till you start turning it up and start messing with EQ’s and such. There’s only so much you can do to artificially add to speakers/headphones. It seems these headphones suffer the way that the smaller Speakers that Marshall makes. I had very similar issues with the Stanmore II and the Acton II. Until I really turned up the sound the bass was very much subdued, present, but subdued.
With a little bit more tuning and time spent on creating a much broader sound I think the Marshall line of Headphones and Speakers could be real contenders. For the price on these, I do think there’s better options out. With them being as much as they are, it’s hard to recommend not spending even just $20 or more on another set of headphones. They’re good, but not great.
