Great speaker...sound its nice and clean...base its awesome...I tried several bluetooth speakers and nothing compares with Marshall middleton...comparing with the same size speakers.
Hello Ely, thank you for your review and feedback. Interestingly, equalizer is predominantly used in American English while equaliser is predominantly used in British English. It is curious that the battery is draining quickly, how many hours playtime are you getting? A full recharge (4.5 hours charging with 5 V, 3 A charger) gives around 20 hours (With 50% volume, Bass, Treble); quick charge (20 minutes charging with 5 V, 3 A charger) gives 2 hours of playtime. Volume, music type and battery condition will all affect how long the battery is able to provide power for. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Support Team through the official online store for assistance.

I received this speaker in such a terrible condition! Truly disappointed with Best Buy for allowing their customers to receive merchandise in an unexpected quality. I ultimately returned the speaker and bought a new one from Target. Loved the item just wish it didn’t look like 4 people had returned it.. Speaker itself was ultimately too heavy for my liking. Also, if someone purchases something in “excellent condition” it should come that way.

I’ve loved Marshall products ever since I bought my son his first guitar amp decades ago. Marshall is a great brand with reliable products. They branched off into home and personal audio equipment and I’ve tried a few of those. Their headphones and then the beefy Stanmore Bluetooth speaker are some of my go-to things when I need to punch up some tunes.
Marshall has come out with a smaller version of the Stanmore with the Middleton. I must say that it does carry the banner with pride. You really can’t compare the Middleton to other brand speakers in its category, it wouldn’t be a fair comparison. It has the same leatherette finish and the signature Marshall logo in the speaker grill. It comes with a charging cable (USB A to USB C) and a carrying strap which is as heavy duty as the speaker itself. I think a USB C to USB C cable should have been included or throw in a USB A to USB C adapter.
This thing is heavy for its size!!!! It’s a bit heftier than most portable speaker. I mean in size and in weight. The Middleton is packed with a ton of features and I’m sure that the extra weight must be from the batteries that give it a 20+ hour playtime. I haven’t tested the battery life but the advertised 20 or more hours gives me a good day of playtime… or even a weekend under practical use. Maybe not for casually tossing in a backpack but strap might come in handy to assist in transporting.
The Middleton is IP67 rated meaning its dust resistant and waterproof up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water. Pretty much on par with most smartphones these day. Very solid choice for taking to the beach or even the pool as long as it stays out of the deep end.
The controls are all on top of the speaker. There is a large multi-function button on top center. It’s like a D-Pad on any game controller. I long press and the unit powers on. To pair the Bluetooth there is a small button on the left with the symbol. A long press will put in in pairing mode and easy connect to a computer, tablet or smartphone. Once connected just push play on your device or you can do a quick press on the power button to get the tunes rolling. I mentioned that the large button has multiple functions. So quick presses are pause/play, rocking the button to the left or right is forward/reverse, rocking back and forward is the volume control. Great use of a single button!! There are Bass and Treble buttons on the right hand side of the power button. In addition to the Bluetooth button on the left side is a bar LED indicator which reacts to the Bass, Treble, volume and also battery level check button. You can always see how much battery life you have left.
I powered it up and paired it with my iPhone. Setup was extremely easy. In a few minutes I was punching out some massive sound. Clear, crisp and no distortion even when cranking it up to something like 8 on the 1 to 10 volume scale. It filled the room with amazing clarity! I appreciate the onboard bass and treble control making it easy to adjust as needed depending on what I was listening to. Using the Marshall Bluetooth app gives you remote control within range. A solid BRAVO!
As I would have expected Bluetooth isn’t the only method to connect to the speaker. Marshall includes an auxiliary input jack next to the USB-C charging port on the back of the speaker for devices that have a headphone jack.
These come in two colors… black or cream. I prefer the traditional black Marshall look myself.
Price point at $299 is a bit hefty to match it’s bulk and weight but for the sound quality and battery life make it a value if you appreciate those things.

The Marshall Middleton Plays Well Above the Middle

Loud. The Marshall Middleton Bluetooth Portable speaker puts out 50+ watts with warm and vibrant sound and that unmistakable Marshall growl. The bass is encompassing, the mids portion of the music is front forward, while the treble is not shrill but clean and clear. This is one Bluetooth speaker you will want to demo (ear plugs optional!). Despite its size which is just a little larger than my hand, it's a firm heavyweight that will definitely get your attention. The overall weight is near 4 lbs and the Middleton even has a rating of IP67, which means it is water resistant and dust resistant. This is not however waterproof; So I don't suggest you hold it under water, but the water-resistant rating will do just fine if a splash of water comes over the Middleton.
From the logo to its material build (amp look), and colors, the Middleton's look are all Marshall appointments. It's clear this Bluetooth product is borrowing from their guitar amp line. When powering off/on or getting Bluetooth connectivity, a special sounding Marshall "guitar riff" plays through the speakers. Its another little thing that sets the Middleton apart from other Bluetooth speakers. Although Marshall didn't come up with the first distortion sound, they have certainly perfected it. From the first listen to the last, it is Middleton is Marshall all the way.
After taking the Middleton out of the box, I needed to charge it. The full amount of battery life is somewhere near 20 hours, but on a short charge I got about 2 hours for 20 minutes. Factors in battery life like bass centric music or letting the Middleton set on for a while will impact the total hours used. I don't think it is a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you take this Middleton on a trip. A supplied USB Type A to USB Type C cable is used to charge the Middleton when the power gets low.
Some perks of the Marshall Middleton are it comes with a carry handle for portability. A 3.5mm jack on the backside of the Middleton allows you to connect an alternative source for music. The USB Type C is located next to the 3.5mm jack. You can you use it to charge other devices, like your smart phone, that plug into the Middleton "power bank" as well as charging the Bluetooth speaker.
Marshall has coined the word "True Stereophonic" when describing the encompassing sounds from the Middleton. 50 watts with six speakers (2 woofers, 2 tweeters and 2 passive speakers) fit into this tiny and mighty chassis. The speakers are specifically placed at every angle (front/back, side/side) for a true stereo, "360 degree" listening area no matter where you are in relation to the Middleton. The "sweet spot" of any speaker is often pursued but never found. The Middleton takes care of that with sound enveloping the room in any "spot" due to it maximum dispersion of sound. For better coverage you can "stack" two Middleton linked portable speaker units in the same room and enjoy the emotional flood of music that surrounds you.
There is also an app you can use for controlling the bass, treble and stacking options or simply use the controls on top of the Middleton. The controls are very responsive, whether you want more volume, bass or treble. The view on top of the Middleton has two metered levels on the right (meter for bass and a meter for treble). Also, on top of the Middleton is the brass control button (which moves from side-to-side, up/down and pushed down), which responds by turning off/on, going forward/back on a track controls the volume as well. There really isn't a big learning curve for the Middleton which on how it works. It was made to be simple and easy to use. The last controls on top of the Middleton, dictate sound levels with a red meter that is used by the brass control button to adjust to your liking. The final two buttons on the left help you select Bluetooth (press and hold till it flashes red to connect via Bluetooth) and battery life.
I must say the Marshall Middleton not only has the authentic look and sound (especially those guitar riffs!) but it also exceeds its size, weight, with surprisingly loud wattage and the added durability of materials. The controls are simple and easy to get you going into the listening stratosphere of the Marshall Middleton Bluetooth Portable speaker.

Bluetooth speakers are plentiful, but it’s tough to find one that offers sound that really makes it enjoyable to use Poolside or on the go. Marshall appears to have solved this with a small form factor speaker, with a speaker capable of up to 20 hours of playback on a full charge. Better yet, it even allows you to charge your phone or USB device while using the speaker for playback.
In the box, you’ll find the Marshall Middleton speaker, a USB C to A charging cable (power adapter isn’t included), and a rubber-like carrying strap. The first thing you’ll likely notice is the weight. It’s a hefty weight for such a small form factor, has a rubber like exterior for a more rugged look & feel, includes a 3.5mm input for external devices that lack bluetooth, a nicely implemented joystick style center button which offers control of power, volume, and for skipping tracks. Powering on the device, and you’re immediately in pairing mode, with the device popping up quickly in the bluetooth settings, identifying as “Middleton.”
The device really jumps right into the Marshall branding, with the packaging, the strap having the established year of 1962, and it mirrors the look of a Guitar amp. There are a few buttons on the top of the device, which are identified by the stamping on the rubber exterior. There is a button to set the Bass & Treble levels, a battery button to check the charge, and a bluetooth button you can hold down to start pairing another device. I should note, this speaker is designed to pair up with another Marshall speaker, in case you purchased two of them. It also plays really neat guitar riffs to confirm pairing and connection to your device.
My speaker arrived with about a 60% battery level, and does allow you to charge at the same time you’re using it. The level indicator will show you the charge level, and will also confirm the volume level. For such a small speaker I was absolutely blown away by the sound. It’s clear, the Bass at mid volume really bumps clearly, and has a 360 degree like speaker array allowing you to hear the sound clearly from just about any angle.
The build quality of the speaker seems solid, and the rubberized exterior does a great job repelling water. The included strap loops into a spot on the top-right side of the speaker and is secured using the included screw. Overall, this speaker has impressed me with the full stereo sound, and having the ability to charge my iPhone using a USB C to Lighting cable worked flawlessly, while only discharging the battery by maybe an hour or so of playback. The ease of setup and sound adjustment from the device directly make this an easy recommendation.

When you want to take your listening pleasure up a notch, this is your speaker. I fell in love at first listen with the exceptional sound. The crystal-clear vocals and unbeatable bass had me hanging on with every note. It offers easy connectivity with Bluetooth “pair and play.”
The gym where I work doesn’t offer a good speaker to play my music. I bring this when I teach my indoor cycling classes. It is lightweight enough to take with me, but heavy enough not to get knocked around. It has a classic look to it and the black and gold are so sharp. With the multi-directional sound, I can hear the music just as well as my riders. The sound is so good that it motivates us to pick up the pace and climb that mountain.
SPECS
It is advertised as the heaviest portable sound. It weighs in at 4 lbs. To me, portability and heavy are oxymorons. But to get the 30-watt stereophonic sound, you have to sacrifice something. It has a IP67 dust- and water-resistant build making is safe outdoors. The controls are top mounted. The exterior is durable with grip texture.
.
BATTERY
You get long-lasting sound/battery whether you want to relax by the pool during the day or dance the night away. The Marshall Middleton speaker will last 20+ hours on a single charge. Longer if at a lower volume. I played it all day at work without having to recharge it. When you do recharge, it will take 4.5 hours to return to full battery.
SPEAKERS
Because it has a 360 speaker, you’ll want to place it in the middle of room versus in a corner. There are dual radiators (each side), dual woofers and dual tweeters (1 front and 1 back) for the quad-speaker set-up. To customize the sound with bass and treble, use the equalizing controls on top of the speaker or download the Marshall Bluetooth app. It comes with Stack Mode to connect to other Middletown speakers.

OTHER
Can be connected to two devices at the same time.
Charge the device using the power bank capability.
3.5mm input audio jack.
The only negative about the Marshall Middleton is that the controls on top are hard to see and feel. But that won’t lower my rating of this incredible speaker.

I have been wanting to try one of these Marshall portable loudspeakers for a while, simply because of the Marshall aesthetic: It is very cool using what looks like a miniature Marshall amp/speaker.
It turns out that the Marshall aesthetic is the best thing about the Middleton portable loudspeaker. The sound is fine enough, clear and pleasing. Apparently one channel is directed out the back and the other out the front (with woofers on the side), which seems odd to me. What if a real Marshall amp projected out the back as well as the front? Nonetheless, the sound quality was excellent. I cranked up some rock tunes and some quieter ballads and they all sounded great with proper adjustment of treble and bass.
One thing that struck me about the Middleton is that its features are so basic. The "equalizer" in the Marshall Bluetooth app has only a treble and bass control instead of sliders across the frequency range. And that's about all the app does beyond the usual and expected stop, play, track forward or back and volume, unless you have more than one Marshall, allowing you to "stack" devices. There are links to digital versions of the quick guide and user manual, which are about the same because there are not many features to explain.
The main physical control on top of the speaker is a button that you push and hold for two seconds to turn the unit on or off, push briefly to play or pause, toggle left or right to skip back or forward one track, or toggle up or down to increase or decrease volume. With the same button doing so many things, I sometimes found myself accidentally toggling when I meant to push or vice versa, so you must pay attention to how you are handling this control. To the right of the button are separate toggles for adjusting bass and treble up or down. To the left of the button is an indicator that shows the level of volume, bass, or treble as you are making those adjustments. To the left of that is a small button for checking the battery level (which shows up on the indicator) and a small button for making Bluetooth connections. The Bluetooth setup was very simple and straightforward. Again, everything is very basic.
All of these controls on top of the unit are labeled in small letters that are the same color as the speaker skin (see photo), so they are impossible to read in dim light. But there are not many controls and labels to learn, so it doesn't take long to memorize the locations and functions and control the unit by feel.
When I first lifted the Marshall Middleton out of the box, I found that it was even heavier than I expected. My first thought was that I hoped they included something to help carry it securely. As it turned out, they included a removable strap for carrying the unit around, an excellent idea for securing the portable speaker.
I like that they included a 1/8" auxiliary jack in the back for wired input. Interestingly, you apparently can use the unit as a charging brick by connecting a device to it through the USB C port in the back (that also serves as an input to charge the unit). I am not sure how efficient this would be, as the charge level on the unit dropped more quickly than I expected. The unit is supposed to last 20 hours on one charge, but I found that it had dropped to 80% after only an hour of light use.
In summary, I think that this portable speaker is a good, solid, no-frills choice, and it definitely looks very cool with the Marshall logo. If you are willing to pay for mostly the Marshall label, I would definitely recommend this portable speaker.

As a guitar player for decades, I am very familiar with Marshall amplifiers and speaker cabinets. They are legendary and iconic. I had no idea Marshall also made Bluetooth speakers, so when I came across the Middleton I absolutely had to have one. I figured as good as their guitar speakers are their Bluetooth speakers would have to be great, too, right? RIGHT! This little speaker brings the sound in a big way. Deep booming base, clear highs, and it gets loud for its smallish size. I've owned many Bluetooth speakers over the years and con honestly say this one has the best sound I've ever heard from a speaker in this size range.
The controls are very intuitive and I like the feel of the exterior, a sort of rubbery shell surrounding it, very pleasing to the touch and easy to grip. The carrying strap is not necessary for my purposes but I suppose would be handy for some. Its just extraneous to me.
My only semi-gripe is the battery level. The instructions say you get a full charge after 4.5 hours. I charged the speaker for over 8 hours and never got to full bars, only got to 9 of the 10 battery lights and the lights kept cycling upwards which to me indicates it is still charging. It doesn’t concern me at all, just an observation that I’m unsure about.
And as an added bonus, whenever you power up or power down the Middleton doesn’t give you a “beep”, it gives you a cool little guitar riff. Nice touch, Marshall. I highly recommend this speaker for its sound and transportability. Great product!

The Marshall Bluetooth Speaker comes with an attachable carry cord, usb cable, and user manuel. Setup was very easy. Charged the speaker and then powered it on. It immediately searched for my phone and provided prompts. Downloaded the app and was good to go. This speaker surpassed my expectations. When watching videos, the sound was spectacular, felt like I was having a mini movie experience. Addtionally as I walked to different parts of the house playing music, the acoustics of the sound was amazing. Played 70's music which is my favorite genre. My family and I was dancing. Loved the base. In addition to classical music. Could hear the different instruments perfectly. This is my first time trying this brand and can see why many love it. This small speaker packs a punch. Love that it can play up to 20 hours. Very nice to know that over 55 percent of this product was made with reclyced plastic material, this does not take away from the durablity of the speaker. Also, like that it is dust and water resistant. Love that the speaker is stackable in case I ever decide to add to this speaker. Overall I have no complaints what so every. I highly recommend this product. If I could give it 10 stars I would. I can only imagine how a larger speaker would sound, especially after experiencing a mini version of this. Well done!

The OG(Original Gangsta) in audio systems. This is truly the best portable speaker you cam get. Completely worth the price. I’m literally feeling a pure bass, clear vocals and very crisp sound. My verdict is only one word ‘Just go for it’.

This Bluetooth speaker from the legendary amplifier company Marshall, has a multi-directional true stereo sound as there is 4 speakers on each side of the device. This speaker is stackable with other Middleton's to create a colossal sound just like their amps. The speaker boasts 20+ hours of portable playtime after a full-charge. It is also designed just like the iconic amp/stacks from Marshall. It is also durable and comes with a carrying strap for easy carrying. This behemoth is also loud and features customizable treble and bass settings. It is also compatible with a Marshall app for your mobile device that allows you to control bass, treble, and stacking options. There is also a 3.5 mm jack on the back of the speaker that allows you to connect to an AUX source for music. You can also use it as a power bank to charge other devices while using the speaker. It seems as if this speaker is capable of putting out 50+ watts of vibrant sound with the unmistakable Marshall crunch and quality. This is one cool and rockin' speaker that will make your music sound great!

I’ve had an Emberton for a couple of years and really like how it sounds. Its used as a primary audio source in a small cottage I own for mostly rock and hip hop. I’ve been thinking about upgrading for a while and came across a great deal on this Middleton. It has the same lively sound signature (fun/punchy/detailed/wide sound stage) but plays much bigger as you would expect for a speaker 2-3x the size. I know some people don’t vibe with the Marshall sound but if you do and you’ve been thinking about an upgrade go for it. And if you haven’t given Marshall a listen I’d ecourage you to. Keep in mind the size of the speaker - this can still rock out at volumes 95% of people would consider too loud but if you’re looking to shake the walls or annoy your neighbors look elsewhere.

First off, this isn't a bad speaker by any means. It has some good features and the build quality is nice. If you are familiar with other Marshall speakers, then you know they always make a quality looking speaker with that retro amp look to them. They are definitely eye catchers for the older crowd.
This Middleton is a medium sized portable speaker, meaning it does have an internal battery that can be recharged. A red battery indicator on top will let you easily see the battery life as the speaker is being used. There is an included carrying strap in the box that you can attach , but the plastic screw it is held on by might make it a little iffy to hang the speaker by, particularly if it is being moved around.
This speaker, much like the Emberton II, features active drivers on both the front and back of the cabinet. I'm not a big fan of this design, but it will give you equal sound both front and back if you place it say in the middle of a room. Sound quality is pretty solid, with bass and treble adjustments on the speaker, or via the app. The app is very bare bones, which is a bit of a disappointment.
The real issue with this speaker is price. For what you get, it's just really hard to justify the price tag. It doesn't really do anything great, with only decent bass capability and it doesn't get as loud as you might expect, partly because you never get the full power of the speaker in your direction. The bass does thin out and treble gets brighter when you turn it up to it's louder levels. So this speaker might appeal more to the older crowd that has enough money that the price on the Middleton really doesn't deter them.
Hello, thank you for your detailed review and feedback. We appreciate hearing from our customers, and will share your comments on the Middleton with our product team. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, or suggestions, regarding the speaker (or other Marshall products).

Exceptional sound quality used it on the river in the kayaks has been dropped in the water and is definitely water resistant! Love the handle makes it easy to carry around and strap to something so It doesn’t fall off. Use it all the time and rarely have to charge it.
