Hi Alam, thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that you aren't satisfied with the microphone; it is important to note that the ANC is deactivated for phone calls. We hope you will enjoy the Monitor II ANC despite the microphone. If you have further concerns, don't hesitate to visit the store where you purchased them to discuss the issues with a store representative.

Well-built, not loud enough, and pairing issues

I love Marshall products in general, but these headphones are disappointing. First, a few things that I like: they are solid and well-built; the collapse to a small size that is perfect for saving space in my backpack; they fit snug to the head, but not too tight. Now, the problems. First, the battery life is terrible. I never worry about traveling with my Bose 700s, but these headphones drained quickly. Second, pairing is ridiculous. I'm used to quick, uncomplicated pairing with my other headsets, but these require the Marshall app which is fickle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And, finally, the sound is good, but underwhelming. I expect Marshall headphones to be loud, clear, and crisp, especially when playing metal or rock. These disappoint in that area. They aren't loud enough to truly enjoy rocking out. Had I used them more before the return period ended I would have sent them back.

Hi Chris, thanks for the feedback. We are sorry to hear that the Monitor II ANC weren't the right headphones for you. Note: you can pair the headphones to your phone without using the app. The app provides additional features that will enhance your experience, but isn't 100% required.

Your Music, Elevated To A Higher Standard

Quick summary, these headphones are not the most price-friendly. But if you take your music very seriously, and can get them, you will not be disappointed at all with them. The sound is rich and warm, well-balanced, and powerful. No distortion. No matter what the genre. Honestly, comfortable for hours of continuous use. For so many of the songs I listened to the first evening I got these headphones, I feel like I’d never heard music at all prior. It is a personal experience unlike no other. These are absolutely remarkable! The app is simple, well-designed, aesthetically cool looking, and has what you need to customize, including the equalizer. I like that it displays the battery level in the app. I have an iPhone 11 PRO, so it also appears where the phone battery % is located (swipe right). I have had no issues with the app or the Bluetooth connectivity. These paired and worked effortlessly with my iPhone and my Mac with no ‘drop-out’ or signal interruption. I got these, charged them, and listened to 4-5 hours worth of songs. The sound was undescribable; immersive and impressive. I’d listen to one song, and it sounded wonderful, so I’d switch to another song to test it. It was an enthusiasm that I’d never had before, regarding earphones / headphones. After a week, I’m still taken aback when I hear a song I’ve heard before, but the first time through these Marshalls. Akin to watching a movie on a tube television, then seeing it on a 4K UHD monitor. Due to the great ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), there were songs I’ve heard a hundred times, and was able to pick out sounds / noises that I’d never heard before; the ANC blocks everything out when set to 100% (in the app, you can adjust the level of noise cancellation). I gave them a full charge when I got them, and after >18 hours of use, the battery is still at 60%; I always keep the ANC on and the volume up. I listened to many genres of music and hundreds of artists, and all of the songs sound remarkable. Anything on the billboards currently, way back to Billie Holiday that was recorded in monaural (mono; like, before stereo sound). Rap, rock, country, show tunes, jazz, pop, electronic, classical. It just all sounded perfect; crisp, yet velvety & warm. The packaging / box was high-quality, thick material; retro and modern at the same time. It was exciting to unwrap. They were packed really well. The canvas (denim-look) bag is soft inside, has a drawstring, and the canvas material is thick and durable. The bag easily will hold the 3.5mm plug, the charging cable, and the headphones themselves without having to force everything to fit. The USB Type-C charging cord as well as the 3.3mm plug, have cross-hatched grips at the end of the wire, for functionality as well as for the retro look. The 3.5mm cord is comlimented by partial coiling, reminicent of amplifier wires. The headphones are light, but yet have some weight to them; they have substance. You can tell the materials of construction are thick, solid, durable; they feel good in your hand as you put them on. And you can feel the textured exterior of the cups and head band, reminicent of the exterior of the Marshall amplifiers I’ve stood 3’ from. The ear cups fit my ear perfectly. The padding that contacts your ears feels like kid leather; they gently lay against your ears, hour after hour, still remaining comfortable, with no irritaton. Ears can get sweaty, but that’s what I’d expect, since they seal out noise so well. I do wish the small placards on the band above each cup, designating ‘L’ & ‘R’ were the same brass (not sure what metal) that the multi-directional control knob was made out of; this was used on previous iterations. The multi-directional button works great and is intuitive to use out of the box, though I wish it were just a bit longer. I like how the ‘M’ button and the ‘ANC’ button are integrated into the hinge where the band meets the ear cups.

    Long Lasting Battery!

Marshall has designed these over the ear headsets to ensure a consistent quality sound output for those YouTube bloggers, music recording artists and studio engineer types out there. The craftsmanship of this product is exceptional, as the durability is a major plus if this will help you make a purchasing decision. The extended battery life is absurd, even after five days out of the box, I’m still enjoying its first charge. Wow! This is great for those long hours in studio projects. The sound performance is dynamic with the additional customizable settings from the Marshall app. It appears that this is a trend that will continue with all audio Bluetooth technology peripherals. So make sure you download it for the full audio experience. Another benefit was the simplicity of its design and overall functionality with it’s three button approach. Love the classy toggle switch design! This was key in my opinion because even though the headsets do have a plus on the durability and simplicity, they do tend to be slightly heavier in weight than say other headsets I’ve had the privilege to review in the past. Bundled with an effective active noise canceling feature, voice assistant (telephone calls etc.), and long battery life, the over all practicality outweigh the minuses. I want to take this brief moment to thank Marshall for understanding the needs of the market and designing a quality product for those of us who really want everything in our audio monitoring needs.

I really like my Marshall Monitor II headphones. They are wireless, rechargeable and feature Active Noise Cancelling technology (ANC) which allows you to "turn off" noise cancelling. I use quotes with "turn off" because it sounds more like outside noise is being mic'ed in as opposed to the sound directly passing through the headphones to your ears. You can adjust the strength of this feature via the smartphone app. The headphones come with a USB cord for recharging (no outlet adapter), a 3.5mm cord for wired use, and a storage bag. The headphones have three buttons. One is the on/off switch for ANC, one (M button) allows you to switch through 3 equalizer presets and the third controls power, volume and track control (next, previous, pause). The function for the M button can be changed to a native voice assistant or Google assistant. Each ear piece has adjustable height, but the headband is not expandable. I have a fairly large head and find the fit to be adequately comfortable. Although after just half an hour of use I do experience the phantom headphone feeling for a while after taking them off. These headphones do have a bit of weight to them. I would not recommend them for use on the treadmill. Also, they aren't water resistant, so I wouldn't recommend them for any kind of physical activity. Sound is pretty good, although I find the headphones to be a little heavy on the bass. There are a handful of equalizer presets as well as limited customization through the app, although, as outlined below, I've experienced some issues with that function. There is an independent volume control on the headphones themselves in addition to the volume control on your phone. So you are able to get a pretty high volume that stays crisp, though hearing damage is definitely a risk. What I like about these headphones: - They comfortably encase my ears. My ears are a little on the larger side and over-the-ear headphones usually sit on my ears instead of over them, which gets very uncomfortable over a short period of time. These fully cover each ear with comfortable padding. - The ability to turn off noise cancelling. Sometimes you need to be able to hear what your kids are getting in to. - Their ability to fold up/included bag. They fold easily and the bag is great for storage and keeping them dust-free. - They seem to hold a pretty good charge. I've been playing with them for 4 or 5 days now for an hour or so a day and have yet to charge them. Out of the box they had a 70% charge and are now at just under 50%. - Ability to listen wirelessly as well as wired. Wire is included and has a decent length. You don't get EQ functionality while wired, but I don't find the quality of sound to suffer. Some may even prefer the sound quality while wired over EQ enhanced sound, as it is less muddy. - Minimal Bluetooth lag. With other wireless headphones I have used I have experienced significant lag times in voices syncing with mouth movements while streaming a television show or movie. I have only tested N-flix with these headphones so far and wasn't bothered by what little lag there was. What I do not like about these headphones: - The Bluetooth LED indicator. Typically a Bluetooth device will have a flashing LED while connecting with another device and then either turn off or stay continuously lit once connected. The LED on these headphones flash once the connection is made and continue until the connection is terminated. In a brightly lit room or out in the sunlight it isn't noticeable, but with the lights turned down a little, the flashing gets pretty annoying. - You must allow access to your location to use the app. I'm not one to be paranoid that someone is keeping tabs on me, but it weirds me out when something that doesn't rely on GPS for its primary function requires it for access to an app. - The app. It is unnecessary, save for tweaking your EQ or changing the name of your headphones. To be fair, while there is an Android app, the box only lists the app as available in the iPhone app store. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S8, so these app issues may not be experienced with an iPhone. -- I have trouble customizing my EQ settings. With the app open music will come through choppy, which makes it next to impossible to hear what adjustments I am making. -- Also, the app allows you to turn on/off sounds for power and media control for which only the power option works for me. The sounds are guitar amp sounds used to indicate you've pressed a button, but they're loud and kind of annoying. A beep or click would be preferred. -- Furthermore, the app sometimes has difficulty connecting and staying connected to my headphones.
